Ἀνήρ A man δέ now τὶς certain, Ἁνανίας Ananias ὀνόματι named, σύν with Σαπφίρῃ Sapphira, τῇ the γυναικί wife αὐτοῦ of him, ἐπώλησεν sold κτῆμα a property, καί and ἐνοσφίσατο he kept back ἀπό from τῆς the τιμῆς, proceeds, συνειδυίης being aware of [it] καί also τῆς the γυναικός, wife, καί and ἐνέγκας having brought μέρος a portion τὶ certain, παρά at τούς the πόδας feet τῶν of the ἀποστόλων apostles ἔθηκεν. he laid [it]. Εἶπεν Said δέ however ὁ - Πέτρος· Peter, Ἁνανία, Ananias, διά because of τί why ἐπλήρωσεν has filled ὁ - Σατανᾶς Satan τήν the καρδίαν heart σου, of you ψεύσασθαι to lie to σε [for] you τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit τό - Ἅγιον Holy καί and νοσφίσασθαι to keep back ἀπό from τῆς the τιμῆς proceeds τοῦ of the χωρίου; land? οὐχί Not μένον remaining σοί to you ἔμενεν did it remain? καί And πραθέν having been sold, ἐν in τῇ the σῇ own ἐξουσίᾳ authority ὑπῆρχεν; it was? τί Why ὅτι - ἔθου did you purpose ἐν in τῇ the καρδίᾳ heart σου of you τό the πρᾶγμα deed τοῦτο; this? οὐ Not ἐψεύσω you have lied ἀνθρώποις to men, ἀλλά but τῷ - Θεῷ. to God! Ἀκούων Hearing δέ now ὁ - Ἁνανίας Ananias τούς the λόγους words τούτους these, πεσών having fallen down, ἐξέψυξεν, he breathed his last. καί And ἐγένετο came φόβος fear μέγας great ἐπί upon πάντας all τούς those ἀκούοντας. hearing. ἀναστάντες Having arisen δέ then, οἱ the νεώτεροι younger [men] συνέστειλαν covered αὐτόν him, καί and ἐξενέγκαντες having carried [him] out, ἔθαψαν. buried [him].
Ἐγένετο It came to pass δέ now ὡς about ὡρῶν hours τριῶν three διάστημα afterward, καί also ἡ the γυνή wife αὐτοῦ of him, μή not εἰδυῖα knowing τό that γεγονός having come to pass, εἰσῆλθεν. came in. ἀπεκρίθη Replied δέ then πρός to αὐτήν her Πέτρος· Peter, Εἰπέ Tell μοι, me εἰ if τοσούτου for so much, τό the χωρίον land ἀπέδοσθε; you sold? ἡ - δέ And εἶπεν· she said, Ναί, Yes, τοσούτου. for so much. ὁ - δέ But Πέτρος Peter [said] πρός to αὐτήν· her, Τί Why [is it] ὅτι that συνεφωνήθη have agreed together ὑμῖν you πειράσαι to test τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit Κυρίου; of [the] Lord? ἰδού Behold, οἱ the πόδες feet τῶν of those θαψάντων having buried τόν the ἄνδρα husband σου of you ἐπί [are] at τῇ the θύρᾳ door, καί and ἐξοίσουσιν they will carry out σε. you. Ἔπεσεν She fell down δέ then παραχρῆμα immediately πρός at τούς the πόδας feet αὐτοῦ of him καί and ἐξέψυξεν· breathed her last. εἰσελθόντες Having come in δέ then, οἱ the νεανίσκοι young [men] εὗρον found αὐτήν her νεκράν dead; καί and ἐξενέγκαντες having carried out, ἔθαψαν they buried [her] πρός by τόν the ἄνδρα husband αὐτῆς, of her. Καί And ἐγένετο came φόβος fear μέγας great ἐφ ̓ upon ὅλην all τήν the ἐκκλησίαν church καί and ἐπί upon πάντας all τούς those ἀκούοντας hearing ταῦτα. these things.
Διά By δέ now τῶν the χειρῶν hands τῶν of the ἀποστόλων apostles ἐγίνετο were happening σημεῖα signs καί and τέρατα wonders πολλά many ἐν among τῷ the λαῷ. people. καί And ἦσαν they were ὁμοθυμαδόν with one accord, ἅπαντες all ἐν in τῇ the στοᾷ Colonnade Σολομῶντος, of Solomon; τῶν of the δέ now λοιπῶν rest, οὐδείς no one ἐτόλμα dared κολλᾶσθαι to join αὐτοῖς, them, ἀλλ ̓ but ἐμεγάλυνεν were magnifying αὐτούς them ὁ the λαός. people; μᾶλλον more δέ now προσετίθεντο were added πιστεύοντες believing τῷ in the Κυρίῳ, Lord, πλήθη multitudes ἀνδρῶν of men τέ both, καί and γυναικῶν, women, ὥστε so as καί even εἰς into τάς the πλατείας streets ἐκφέρειν to bring out τούς the ἀσθενεῖς sick, καί and τιθέναι to put [them] ἐπί on κλιναρίων cots καί and κραβάττων, mats, ἵνα that ἐρχομένου coming Πέτρου of Peter, κἄν at least ἡ the σκιά shadow ἐπισκιάσῃ might envelop τινί some αὐτῶν. of them. συνήρχετο Were coming together δέ now καί also τό the πλῆθος multitude τῶν from the πέριξ surrounding πόλεων cities Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem, φέροντες bringing ἀσθενεῖς [the] sick καί and ὀχλουμένους [those] being tormented ὑπό by πνευμάτων spirits ἀκαθάρτων, unclean, οἵτινες who ἐθεραπεύοντο were healed ἅπαντες. all.
Ἀναστάς Having risen up δέ however ὁ the ἀρχιερεύς high priest καί and πάντες all οἱ those σύν with αὐτῷ, him, ἡ - οὖσα being αἵρεσις the sect τῶν of the Σαδδουκαίων, Sadducees, ἐπλήσθησαν were filled ζήλου with jealousy, καί and ἐπέβαλον they laid τάς the χεῖρας hands ἐπί on τούς the ἀποστόλους apostles καί and ἔθεντο put αὐτούς them ἐν in τηρήσει [the] jail δημοσίᾳ. public. Ἄγγελος An angel δέ however Κυρίου of [the] Lord, διά during νυκτός the night ἤνοιξε having opened τάς the θύρας doors τῆς of the φυλακῆς prison, ἐξαγαγών having brought out τέ then αὐτούς them, εἶπεν· said, Πορεύεσθε Go, καί and σταθέντες having stood, λαλεῖτε speak ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple τῷ to the λαῷ people πάντα all τά the ῥήματα words τῆς of the Ζωῆς life ταύτης. this. Ἀκούσαντες Having heard δέ now, εἰσῆλθον they entered ὑπό at τόν the ὄρθρον dawn εἰς into τό the ἱερόν temple καί and ἐδίδασκον. were teaching. Παραγενόμενος Having come δέ now ὁ the ἀρχιερεύς high priest καί and οἱ those σύν with αὐτῷ him, συνεκάλεσαν they called together τό the συνέδριον Council, καί even πᾶσαν all τήν the γερουσίαν Senate τῶν of the υἱῶν sons Ἰσραήλ of Israel, καί and ἀπέστειλαν sent εἰς to τό the δεσμωτήριον prison house ἀχθῆναι to bring αὐτούς. them. οἱ - δέ And παραγενόμενοι having come, ὑπηρέται [the] officers οὐ not εὗρον did find αὐτούς them ἐν in τῇ the φυλακῇ· prison; ἀναστρέψαντες having returned δέ then ἀπήγγειλαν they reported back, λέγοντες saying ὅτι -, Τό The δεσμωτήριον prison house εὕρομεν we found κεκλεισμένον shut, ἐν with πάσῃ all ἀσφαλείᾳ security, καί and τούς the φύλακας guards ἑστῶτας standing ἐπί before τῶν the θυρῶν, doors; ἀνοίξαντες having opened [them] δέ however, ἔσω inside οὐδένα no one εὕρομεν. we found. ὡς When δέ now ἤκουσαν they heard τούς the λόγους words τούτους these, ὅ - τέ both στρατηγός the captain τοῦ of the ἱεροῦ temple καί and οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς, chief priests διηπόρουν were perplexed περί concerning αὐτῶν them, τί what ἄν - γένοιτο might be τοῦτο. this. παραγενόμενος Having come δέ then, τὶς a certain one ἀπήγγειλεν reported αὐτοῖς to them ὅτι -, Ἰδού Behold, οἱ the ἄνδρες men οὕς whom ἔθεσθε you put ἐν in τῇ the φυλακῇ prison εἰσίν are ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple, ἑστῶτες standing καί and διδάσκοντες teaching τόν the λαόν. people! Τότε Then ἀπελθών having gone, ὁ the στρατηγός captain σύν with τοῖς the ὑπηρέταις officers ἦγεν was bringing αὐτούς them, οὐ not μετά with βίας, force; ἐφοβοῦντο they were afraid of γάρ for τόν the λαόν people μή lest λιθασθῶσιν. they might be stoned.
ἀγαγόντες Having brought δέ then αὐτούς them, ἔστησαν they set [them] ἐν in τῷ the συνεδρίῳ. Council. καί And ἐπηρώτησεν asked αὐτούς them ὁ the ἀρχιερεύς high priest, λέγων· saying, οὐ Not Παραγγελίᾳ by a charge παρηγγείλαμεν we commanded ὑμῖν you μή not διδάσκειν to teach ἐπί in τῷ the ὀνόματι name τούτῳ, this? καί And ἰδού behold, πεπληρώκατε you have filled τήν - Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem τῆς with the διδαχῆς teaching ὑμῶν of you, καί and βούλεσθε you intend ἐπαγαγεῖν to bring ἐφ ̓ upon ἡμᾶς us τό the αἷμα blood τοῦ of the ἀνθρώπου man τούτου. this. Ἀποκριθείς Answering δέ however, Πέτρος Peter καί and οἱ the ἀπόστολοι apostles εἶπαν· said, Πειθαρχεῖν To obey δεῖ it is necessary Θεῷ God, μᾶλλον rather ἤ than ἀνθρώποις. men. ὁ The Θεός God τῶν of the πατέρων fathers ἡμῶν of us ἤγειρεν raised up Ἰησοῦν Jesus, ὅν whom ὑμεῖς you διεχειρίσασθε killed, κρεμάσαντες having hanged [Him] ἐπί on ξύλου· a tree. τοῦτον Him ὁ - Θεός God Ἀρχηγόν [as] Prince καί and Σωτῆρα Savior ὕψωσεν exalted τῇ by the δεξιᾷ right hand αὐτοῦ of Him, τοῦ - δοῦναι to give μετάνοιαν repentance τῷ - Ἰσραήλ to Israel καί and ἄφεσιν forgiveness ἁμαρτιῶν. of sins. καί And ἡμεῖς we ἐσμέν are μάρτυρες witnesses τῶν of the ῥημάτων things τούτων these, καί and also τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit τό - Ἅγιον Holy, ὅ whom ἔδωκεν has given ὁ - Θεός God τοῖς to those πειθαρχοῦσιν obeying αὐτῷ. Him.
οἱ - δέ And ἀκούσαντες having heard, διεπρίοντο they were cut [to the heart] καί and ἐβούλοντο were desiring ἀνελεῖν to put to death αὐτούς. them. Ἀναστάς Having risen up δέ however τὶς a certain [man] ἐν in τῷ the συνεδρίῳ Council, Φαρισαῖος a Pharisee ὀνόματι named Γαμαλιήλ, Gamaliel, νομοδιδάσκαλος a teacher of the law τίμιος honored παντί by all τῷ the λαῷ, people, ἐκέλευσεν he commanded [them] ἔξω outside βραχύ for a short while τούς the ἀνθρώπους men ποιῆσαι to put. Εἶπεν He said τέ then πρός to αὐτούς· them, Ἄνδρες Men, Ἰσραηλῖται, Israelites, προσέχετε take heed ἑαυτοῖς to yourselves ἐπί with τοῖς the ἀνθρώποις men τούτοις these, τί what μέλλετε you are about πράσσειν. to do. πρό Before γάρ for τούτων these τῶν - ἡμερῶν days ἀνέστη rose up Θευδᾶς Theudas, λέγων affirming εἶναι to be τινά somebody ἑαυτόν, himself, ᾧ to whom προσεκλίθη were joined ἀνδρῶν of men ἀριθμός number ὡς about τετρακοσίων· four hundred, ὅς who ἀνῃρέθη, was put to death, καί and πάντες all, ὅσοι as many as ἐπείθοντο were persuaded αὐτῷ by him, διελύθησαν were dispersed, καί and ἐγένοντο it came εἰς to οὐδέν. nothing. μετά After τοῦτον this man ἀνέστη rose up Ἰούδας Judas ὁ the Γαλιλαῖος Galilean ἐν in ταῖς the ἡμέραις days τῆς of the ἀπογραφῆς registration καί and ἀπέστησεν drew away λαόν people ὀπίσω after αὐτοῦ· him. κἀκεῖνος And he ἀπώλετο perished, καί and πάντες all ὅσοι as many as ἐπείθοντο were persuaded αὐτῷ by him, διεσκορπίσθησαν. were scattered. Καί And τά - νῦν now λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, ἀπόστητε withdraw ἀπό from τῶν the ἀνθρώπων men τούτων these, καί and ἄφετε let alone αὐτούς· them, ὅτι for ἐάν if ᾖ be ἐκ from ἀνθρώπων men, ἡ the βουλή plan αὕτη this ἤ or τό the ἔργον work τοῦτο, this, καταλυθήσεται, it will be overthrown; εἰ if δέ however ἐκ from Θεοῦ God ἐστίν, it is, οὐ not δυνήσεσθε you will be able καταλῦσαι to overthrow αὐτούς, them, μήποτε lest ever καί also θεομάχοι fighting against God εὑρεθῆτε. You would be found. Ἐπείσθησαν They were persuaded δέ now αὐτῷ by him; καί and προσκαλεσάμενοι having called in τούς the ἀποστόλους apostles, δείραντες having beaten, παρήγγειλαν they commanded [them] μή not λαλεῖν to speak ἐπί in τῷ the ὀνόματι name τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ of Jesus, καί and ἀπέλυσαν. released [them]. οἱ They μέν indeed οὖν therefore ἐπορεύοντο departed, χαίροντες rejoicing, ἀπό from προσώπου [the] presence τοῦ of the συνεδρίου, Council, ὅτι that κατηξιώθησαν they had been counted worthy ὑπέρ for τοῦ the Ὀνόματος Name ἀτιμασθῆναι, to suffer dishonor. πᾶσαν Every τέ then ἡμέραν day, ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple καί and κατ ̓ in οἶκον house, οὐ not ἐπαύοντο they ceased διδάσκοντες teaching καί and εὐαγγελιζόμενοι proclaiming the good news that τόν the Χριστόν Christ Ἰησοῦν. [is] Jesus.
