ὡς As δέ then ἤγγισεν He drew near τῇ to the πύλῃ gate τῆς of the πόλεως, town, καί also ἰδού behold, ἐξεκομίζετο was being carried out τεθνηκώς [one] having died, μονογενής only begotten υἱός son τῇ of the μητρί mother αὐτοῦ of him; καί and αὐτή she ἦν was χήρα, a widow. καί And ὄχλος a crowd τῆς of the πόλεως town, ἱκανός considerable, ἦν was σύν with αὐτῇ. her. καί And ἰδών having seen αὐτήν her, ὁ the Κύριος Lord ἐσπλαγχνίσθη was moved with compassion ἐπ ̓ on αὐτῇ her, καί and εἶπεν said αὐτῇ· to her, Μή Not κλαῖε. weep. Καί And προσελθών having come up, ἥψατο He touched τῆς the σοροῦ, bier; οἱ those δέ then βαστάζοντες bearing [it] ἔστησαν, stopped. καί And εἶπεν· He said, Νεανίσκε, Young man, σοί to you λέγω, I say, ἐγέρθητι. Arise! καί And ἀνεκάθισεν sat up ὁ the νεκρός dead [man], καί and ἤρξατο began λαλεῖν, to speak, καί and ἔδωκεν He gave αὐτόν him τῇ to the μητρί mother αὐτοῦ. of him. Ἔλαβεν Seized δέ then φόβος fear πάντας all, καί and ἐδόξαζον they began glorifying τόν - Θεόν God, λέγοντες saying ὅτι -, Προφήτης A prophet μέγας great ἠγέρθη has risen up ἐν among ἡμῖν us! καί and ὅτι -, Ἐπεσκέψατο Has visited ὁ - Θεός God τόν the λαόν people αὐτοῦ. of Him! καί And ἐξῆλθεν went out ὁ the λόγος report οὗτος this ἐν in ὅλῃ all τῇ - Ἰουδαίᾳ Judea περί concerning αὐτοῦ Him, καί and πάσῃ in all τῇ the περιχώρῳ. surrounding region.
Καί And ἀπήγγειλαν brought word Ἰωάννῃ to John οἱ the μαθηταί disciples αὐτοῦ of him περί concerning πάντων all τούτων. these things. καί And προσκαλεσάμενος having called near δύο two τινάς certain τῶν - μαθητῶν disciples αὐτοῦ of him, ὁ - Ἰωάννης John ἔπεμψεν sent [them] πρός to τόν the Κύριον Lord, λέγων· saying, Σύ You εἶ are ὁ the ἐρχόμενος coming [One], ἤ or ἄλλον another προσδοκῶμεν; are we to look for? Παραγενόμενοι Having come δέ then πρός to αὐτόν Him, οἱ the ἄνδρες men εἶπαν· said, Ἰωάννης John ὁ the Βαπτιστής Baptist ἀπέστειλεν has sent ἡμᾶς us πρός to σέ you, λέγων· saying, Σύ You εἶ are ὁ the ἐρχόμενος coming [One], ἤ or ἄλλον another προσδοκῶμεν; are we to look for? ἐν At ἐκείνῃ that very τῇ - ὥρᾳ hour, ἐθεράπευσεν He healed πολλούς many ἀπό of νόσων diseases, καί and μαστίγων afflictions, καί and πνευμάτων spirits πονηρῶν evil, καί and τυφλοῖς to blind πολλοῖς many ἐχαρίσατο He granted βλέπειν. to see. καί And ἀποκριθείς answering, εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Πορευθέντες Having gone, ἀπαγγείλατε relate Ἰωάννῃ to John ἅ what εἴδετε you have seen καί and ἠκούσατε· heard: τυφλοί Blind ἀναβλέπουσιν, receive sight, χωλοί lame περιπατοῦσιν, walk, λεπροί lepers καθαρίζονται are cleansed, καί and κωφοί deaf ἀκούουσιν, hear, νεκροί dead ἐγείρονται, are raised, πτωχοί poor εὐαγγελίζονται· are gospelized.
καί And μακάριος blessed ἐστίν is ὅς who ἐάν if μή not σκανδαλισθῇ shall be offended ἐν in ἐμοί. Me.
Ἀπελθόντων Having departed δέ then τῶν the ἀγγέλων messengers Ἰωάννου of John, ἤρξατο He began λέγειν to speak πρός to τούς the ὄχλους crowds περί concerning Ἰωάννου· John: Τί What ἐξήλθατε have you gone out εἰς into τήν the ἔρημον wilderness θεάσασθαι; to see? κάλαμον A reed ὑπό by ἀνέμου [the] wind σαλευόμενον; shaken? ἀλλά But τί what ἐξήλθατε have you gone out ἰδεῖν; to see? ἄνθρωπον A man ἐν in μαλακοῖς fine ἱματίοις clothing ἠμφιεσμένον; arrayed? ἰδού Behold, οἱ those ἐν in ἱματισμῷ clothing ἐνδόξῳ splendid καί and τρυφῇ in luxury ὑπάρχοντες living, ἐν in τοῖς the βασιλείοις palaces εἰσίν. are. Ἀλλά But τί what ἐξήλθατε have you gone out ἰδεῖν; to see? προφήτην; A prophet? ναί Yes, λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, καί and [one] περισσότερον more excellent προφήτου. than a prophet. οὗτος This ἐστίν is he περί concerning οὗ whom γέγραπται· it has been written: Ἰδού Behold, ἀποστέλλω I send τόν the ἄγγελον messenger μου of Me πρό before προσώπου [the] face σου, of you, Ὅς who κατασκευάσει will prepare τήν the ὁδόν way σου of You ἔμπροσθεν before σου. You.’
Λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, μείζων a greater ἐν among γεννητοῖς [those] born γυναικῶν of women Ἰωάννου than John οὐδείς no one ἐστίν· is; ὁ - δέ yet μικρότερος the least ἐν in τῇ the βασιλείᾳ kingdom τοῦ of Θεοῦ God, μείζων greater αὐτοῦ than he ἐστίν. is.
Καί And πᾶς all ὁ the λαός people ἀκούσας having heard, καί even οἱ the τελῶναι tax collectors, ἐδικαίωσαν declared as righteous τόν - Θεόν God, βαπτισθέντες having been baptized [with] τό the βάπτισμα baptism Ἰωάννου· of John; οἱ - δέ but Φαρισαῖοι the Pharisees καί and οἱ the νομικοί lawyers, τήν the βουλήν counsel τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God ἠθέτησαν rejected εἰς as to ἑαυτούς themselves, μή not βαπτισθέντες having been baptized ὑπ ̓ by αὐτοῦ. him.
Τίνι To what οὖν therefore ὁμοιώσω will I liken τούς the ἀνθρώπους men τῆς of the γενεᾶς generation ταύτης this? καί And τίνι to what εἰσίν are they ὅμοιοι; like? ὅμοιοι Like εἰσίν are they παιδίοις to little children τοῖς - ἐν in ἀγορᾷ the marketplace καθημένοις sitting, καί and προσφωνοῦσιν calling ἀλλήλοις to each other ἅ one, λέγει· saying: Ηὐλήσαμεν We piped ὑμῖν to you, καί and οὐ not ὠρχήσασθε, you did dance; Ἐθρηνήσαμεν we sang a dirge, καί and οὐ not ἐκλαύσατε. you did weep.
Ἐλήλυθεν Has come γάρ for Ἰωάννης John ὁ the Βαπτιστής Baptist, μή neither ἐσθίων eating ἄρτον bread, μήτε nor πίνων drinking οἶνον, wine, καί and λέγετε· you say, Δαιμόνιον A demon ἔχει. He has. ἐλήλυθεν Has come ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man, ἐσθίων eating καί and πίνων, drinking, καί and λέγετε· you say, Ἰδού Behold, ἄνθρωπος a man, φάγος a glutton καί and οἰνοπότης, a drunkard, φίλος a friend τελωνῶν of tax collectors καί and ἁμαρτωλῶν. of sinners. καί And ἐδικαιώθη was justified ἡ - σοφία wisdom ἀπό by πάντων all τῶν the τέκνων children αὐτῆς. of her.
Ἠρώτα Was asking δέ now τὶς one αὐτόν Him τῶν of the Φαρισαίων Pharisees, ἵνα that φάγῃ He should eat μετ ̓ with αὐτοῦ, him; καί and εἰσελθών having entered εἰς into τόν the οἶκον house τοῦ of the Φαρισαίου Pharisee, κατεκλίθη. He reclined. καί And ἰδού behold, γυνή a woman ἥτις who ἦν was ἐν in τῇ the πόλει city, ἁμαρτωλός, a sinner. καί And ἐπιγνοῦσα she having known ὅτι that κατάκειται He had reclined ἐν in τῇ the οἰκίᾳ house τοῦ of the Φαρισαίου, Pharisee, κομίσασα having taken ἀλάβαστρον an alabaster flask μύρου of fragrant oil, καί and στᾶσα having stood ὀπίσω behind Him παρά at τούς the πόδας feet αὐτοῦ of Him κλαίουσα weeping, τοῖς the δάκρυσιν tears ἤρξατο she began βρέχειν to wet τούς with the πόδας feet αὐτοῦ of Him, καί and ταῖς with the θριξίν hairs τῆς of the κεφαλῆς head αὐτῆς of her, ἐξέμασσεν she was wiping [them], καί and κατεφίλει was kissing τούς the πόδας feet αὐτοῦ of Him, καί and ἤλειφεν was anointing [them] τῷ with the μύρῳ. fragrant oil. Ἰδών Having seen δέ now ὁ the Φαρισαῖος Pharisee, ὁ the [one] καλέσας having invited αὐτόν Him, εἶπεν he spoke ἐν within ἑαυτῷ himself, λέγων· saying, Οὗτος This, εἰ if ἦν He were προφήτης, a prophet, ἐγίνωσκεν would have known ἄν - τίς who καί and ποταπή what ἡ the γυνή woman [is] ἥτις who ἅπτεται touches αὐτοῦ, Him, ὅτι for ἁμαρτωλός a sinner ἐστίν. she is. Καί And ἀποκριθείς answering, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν said πρός to αὐτόν· him, Σίμων, Simon, ἔχω I have σοί to you τὶ something εἰπεῖν. to say. ὁ - δέ· And, Διδάσκαλε, Teacher, εἰπέ, say [it], φησίν. he says. Δύο Two χρεοφειλέται debtors ἦσαν there were δανιστῇ to a creditor τινί· certain; ὁ the εἷς one ὤφειλεν owed δηνάρια denarii πεντακόσια, five hundred; ὁ - δέ and ἕτερος the other, πεντήκοντα. fifty. μή Nothing ἐχόντων having αὐτῶν they ἀποδοῦναι to pay, ἀμφοτέροις both ἐχαρίσατο. he forgave. τίς Which οὖν therefore αὐτῶν of them, πλεῖον more ἀγαπήσει will love αὐτόν; him? Ἀποκριθείς Answering, Σίμων Simon εἶπεν· said, Ὑπολαμβάνω I take it ὅτι that ᾧ [he] to whom τό the πλεῖον most ἐχαρίσατο. he forgave. ὁ - δέ And εἶπεν He said αὐτῷ· to him, Ὀρθῶς Rightly ἔκρινας. You have judged. Καί And στραφείς having turned πρός to τήν the γυναῖκα woman, τῷ - Σίμωνι to Simon ἔφη· He was saying, Βλέπεις See you ταύτην this τήν the γυναῖκα; woman? εἰσῆλθον I entered σου of you εἰς into τήν the οἰκίαν, house, ὕδωρ water μοι of Me ἐπί for πόδας feet οὐ not ἔδωκας· you gave; αὕτη with her δέ however τοῖς - δάκρυσιν tears ἔβρεξεν she wet μου My τούς - πόδας feet, καί and ταῖς with θριξίν [the] hair αὐτῆς of her ἐξέμαξεν. wiped [them]. φίλημα A kiss μοι to Me οὐ not ἔδωκας· you gave; αὕτη she herself δέ however, ἀφ ̓ from ἧς which [time] εἰσῆλθον I came in, οὐ not διέλιπεν has ceased καταφιλοῦσα kissing μου My τούς - πόδας. feet. ἐλαίῳ With oil τήν the κεφαλήν head μου of Me οὐ not ἤλειψας· you did anoint; αὕτη she herself δέ however, μύρῳ with fragrant oil ἤλειψεν anointed τούς the πόδας feet μου. of Me. οὗ This χάριν therefore λέγω I say σοι, to you, ἀφέωνται have been forgiven αἱ the ἁμαρτίαι sins αὐτῆς of her αἱ - πολλαί, many, ὅτι for ἠγάπησεν she loved πολύ· much; ᾧ to whom δέ however ὀλίγον little ἀφίεται, is forgiven, ὀλίγον little ἀγαπᾷ. he loves. Εἶπεν He said δέ then αὐτῇ· to her, Ἀφέωνται Have been forgiven σου your αἱ - ἁμαρτίαι. sins. Καί And ἤρξαντο began οἱ those συνανακείμενοι reclining λέγειν to say ἐν within ἑαυτοῖς· themselves, Τίς Who οὗτος this ἐστίν is ὅς who καί even ἁμαρτίας sins ἀφίησιν; forgives? Εἶπεν He said δέ then πρός to τήν the γυναῖκα· woman, ἡ The πίστις faith σου of You σέσωκεν has saved σε· you; πορεύου go εἰς in εἰρήνην. peace.
Καί And ἐγένετο it came to pass ἐν afterward τῷ - καθεξῆς soon, καί that αὐτός He διώδευεν was traveling κατά throughout πόλιν city καί and κώμην village, κηρύσσων preaching καί and εὐαγγελιζόμενος proclaiming the good news τήν of the βασιλείαν kingdom τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God. καί And οἱ the δώδεκα Twelve σύν [were] with αὐτῷ, Him, καί and γυναῖκες women τινές certain αἵ who ἦσαν had been τεθεραπευμέναι cured ἀπό from πνευμάτων spirits πονηρῶν evil καί and ἀσθενειῶν, infirmities: Μαρία Mary ἡ who καλουμένη is called Μαγδαληνή, Magdalene, ἀφ ̓ from ἧς whom δαιμόνια demons ἑπτά seven ἐξεληλύθει, had gone out; καί and Ἰωάννα Joanna γυνή wife Χουζᾶ of Chuza, ἐπιτρόπου a steward Ἡρῴδου of Herod, καί and Σουσάννα Susanna, καί and ἕτεραι others πολλαί, many, αἵτινες who διηκόνουν were ministering αὐτοῖς to them ἐκ out of τῶν the ὑπαρχόντων means αὐταῖς. their own.
Συνιόντος [As] is assembling δέ now ὄχλου a crowd πολλοῦ great, καί and τῶν those κατά from each πόλιν town ἐπιπορευομένων are coming πρός to αὐτόν Him, εἶπεν He spoke διά by παραβολῆς· a parable: Ἐξῆλθεν Went out ὁ the [one] σπείρων sowing τοῦ - σπεῖραι to sow τόν the σπόρον seed αὐτοῦ. of him. καί And ἐν in τῷ the σπείρειν sowing αὐτόν of him, ὅ some μέν indeed ἔπεσεν fell παρά along τήν the ὁδόν road, καί and κατεπατήθη, it was trampled upon, καί and τά the πετεινά birds τοῦ of the οὐρανοῦ air κατέφαγεν devoured αὐτό. it. Καί And ἕτερον other κατέπεσεν fell ἐπί upon τήν the πέτραν, rock, καί and φυέν having sprung up ἐξηράνθη it withered διά through τό - μή no ἔχειν having ἰκμάδα. moisture. Καί And ἕτερον other ἔπεσεν fell ἐν in μέσῳ [the] midst τῶν of the ἀκανθῶν, thorns, καί and συμφυεῖσαι having sprung up with [it], αἱ the ἄκανθαι thorns ἀπέπνιξαν choked αὐτό. it. Καί And ἕτερον other ἔπεσεν fell εἰς upon τήν the γῆν soil τήν - ἀγαθήν good, καί and φυέν having sprung up, ἐποίησεν it produced καρπόν fruit ἑκατονταπλασίονα. a hundredfold. Ταῦτα These things λέγων saying, ἐφώνει· He was calling out, ὁ The [one] ἔχων having ὦτα ears ἀκούειν to hear, ἀκουέτω. let him hear.
Ἐπηρώτων Were asking δέ then αὐτόν Him οἱ the μαθηταί disciples αὐτοῦ of Him, Τίς What αὕτη this εἴη means, ἡ the παραβολή. parable? ὁ - δέ And εἶπεν· He said, Ὑμῖν To you δέδοται it has been given γνῶναι to know τά the μυστήρια mysteries τῆς of the βασιλείας kingdom τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God; τοῖς to δέ however λοιποῖς [the] rest, ἐν [it is] in παραβολαῖς, parables, ἵνα so that, Βλέποντες Seeing, μή not βλέπωσιν may they see; Καί and ἀκούοντες hearing, μή not συνιῶσιν. may they understand.’
Ἔστιν Is δέ now αὕτη this ἡ the παραβολή· parable: ὁ The σπόρος seed ἐστίν is ὁ the λόγος word τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. οἱ Those δέ now παρά along τήν the ὁδόν road εἰσίν are οἱ those ἀκούσαντες, having heard; εἶτα then ἔρχεται comes ὁ the διάβολος devil καί and αἴρει takes away τόν the λόγον word ἀπό from τῆς the καρδίας heart αὐτῶν, of them, ἵνα that μή not πιστεύσαντες having believed σωθῶσιν. they should be saved. οἱ Those δέ now ἐπί upon τῆς the πέτρας rock, οἵ those who ὅταν when ἀκούσωσιν they hear, μετά with χαρᾶς joy δέχονται receive τόν the λόγον, word, καί and οὗτοι these ῥίζαν a root οὐ not ἔχουσιν, have, οἵ who πρός for καιρόν a time πιστεύουσιν believe, καί and ἐν in καιρῷ time πειρασμοῦ of testing ἀφίστανται. fall away. Τό That δέ now εἰς into τάς the ἀκάνθας thorns πεσόν, having fallen, οὗτοι these εἰσίν are οἱ those ἀκούσαντες, having heard, καί and ὑπό under μεριμνῶν cares, καί and πλούτου riches, καί and ἡδονῶν pleasures τοῦ - βίου of life, πορευόμενοι moving along συμπνίγονται are choked, καί and οὐ not τελεσφοροῦσιν. do mature. Τό That δέ now ἐν in τῇ the καλῇ good γῇ, soil, οὗτοι these εἰσίν are οἵτινες those ἐν in καρδίᾳ a heart καλῇ worthy καί and ἀγαθῇ good, ἀκούσαντες having heard τόν the λόγον word κατέχουσιν keep [it], καί and καρποφοροῦσιν bring forth fruit ἐν by ὑπομονῇ. perseverance.
Οὐδείς No one δέ now λύχνον a lamp ἅψας having lighted, καλύπτει covers αὐτόν it σκεύει with a vessel, ἤ or ὑποκάτω under κλίνης a bed τίθησιν, puts [it], ἀλλ ̓ but ἐπί on λυχνίας a lampstand τίθησιν, puts [it], ἵνα so that οἱ those εἰσπορευόμενοι entering in βλέπωσιν may see τό the φῶς. light. οὐ Nothing γάρ for ἐστίν is κρυπτόν hidden ὅ which οὐ not φανερόν manifest γενήσεται will become, οὐδέ nor ἀπόκρυφον secret ὅ which οὐ nothing μή not γνωσθῇ shall be known, καί and εἰς to φανερόν light ἔλθῃ. come.
Βλέπετε Take heed οὖν therefore πῶς how ἀκούετε· you hear; ὅς whoever ἄν - γάρ for ἔχῃ, might have, δοθήσεται will be given αὐτῷ· to him; καί and ὅς whoever ἄν - μή not ἔχῃ, might have, καί even ὅ what δοκεῖ he seems ἔχειν to have ἀρθήσεται will be taken away ἀπ ̓ from αὐτοῦ. him.
