Εὐθύς Immediately δέ now ἐλάλησεν spoke ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus αὐτοῖς to them, λέγων· saying, Θαρσεῖτε, Take courage! ἐγώ I εἰμί· it is, μή not φοβεῖσθε. fear. Ἀποκριθείς Answering δέ now αὐτῷ to Him, ὁ - Πέτρος Peter εἶπεν· said, Κύριε, Lord, εἰ if σύ You εἶ, [it] is, κέλευσον command με me ἐλθεῖν to come πρός to σέ You ἐπί upon τά the ὕδατα. waters. ὁ - δέ And εἶπεν· He said, Ἐλθέ. Come. Καί And καταβάς having descended ἀπό from τοῦ the πλοίου boat, ὁ - Πέτρος Peter περιεπάτησεν walked ἐπί upon τά the ὕδατα water καί and ἦλθεν came πρός to τόν - Ἰησοῦν. Jesus. βλέπων Seeing δέ now τόν the ἄνεμον wind ἰσχυρόν charging, ἐφοβήθη, he was afraid, καί and ἀρξάμενος having begun καταποντίζεσθαι to sink, ἔκραξεν he cried out, λέγων· saying, Κύριε, Lord, σῶσον save με. me! Εὐθέως Immediately δέ now ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus, ἐκτείνας having stretched out τήν the χεῖρα hand, ἐπελάβετο took hold αὐτοῦ of him καί and λέγει says αὐτῷ· to him, Ὀλιγόπιστε, [You] of little faith, εἰς of τί why ἐδίστασας; did you doubt? Καί And ἀναβάντων having entered αὐτῶν they εἰς into τό the πλοῖον boat, ἐκόπασεν ceased ὁ the ἄνεμος. wind. οἱ Those δέ then ἐν in τῷ the πλοίῳ boat προσεκύνησαν worshiped αὐτῷ Him, λέγοντες· saying, Ἀληθῶς Truly, Θεοῦ of God Υἱός Son εἶ. Καί And διαπεράσαντες having crossed over, ἦλθον they came ἐπί to τήν the γῆν land εἰς of Γεννησαρέτ. Τότε Then προσέρχονται come τῷ - Ἰησοῦ to Jesus ἀπό from Ἱεροσολύμων Jerusalem Φαρισαῖοι Pharisees καί and γραμματεῖς scribes, λέγοντες· saying, Διά Because of τί why οἱ the μαθηταί disciples σου of You παραβαίνουσιν break τήν the παράδοσιν tradition τῶν of the πρεσβυτέρων; elders? οὐ Not γάρ for νίπτονται they wash τάς the χεῖρας hands αὐτῶν of them ὅταν when ἄρτον bread ἐσθίωσιν. they shall eat. ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Διά Because of τί why καί also ὑμεῖς you παραβαίνετε break τήν the ἐντολήν commandment τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God διά on account of τήν the παράδοσιν tradition ὑμῶν; of you? ὁ - γάρ For Θεός God εἶπεν· commanded, Τίμα Honor τόν the πατέρα Father καί and τήν the μητέρα, mother’ καί· and, ὁ The [one] κακολογῶν speaking evil of πατέρα father ἤ or μητέρα mother, θανάτῳ in death τελευτάτω. must end.’ ὑμεῖς You δέ however λέγετε· say, Ὅς Whoever ἄν - εἴπῃ shall say τῷ to the πατρί father ἤ or τῇ the μητρί· mother, Δῶρον [It is] a gift, ὅ whatever ἐάν if ἐκ by ἐμοῦ me ὠφεληθῇς, you might be profited, οὐ no μή not τιμήσει he shall honor τόν the πατέρα father αὐτοῦ· of himself. καί And ἠκυρώσατε you made void τόν the λόγον commandment τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God διά on account of τήν the παράδοσιν tradition ὑμῶν. of you! ὑποκριταί, Hypocrites! καλῶς Rightly ἐπροφήτευσεν prophesied περί concerning ὑμῶν you Ἠσαΐας Isaiah, λέγων· saying, ὁ The λαός people οὗτος this, τοῖς with the χείλεσιν lips με Me τιμᾷ, it honors; ἡ the δέ however καρδία heart αὐτῶν of them, πόρρω far away ἀπέχει is kept ἀπ ̓ from ἐμοῦ· Me; Μάτην in vain δέ then σέβονται they worship με Me, Διδάσκοντες teaching [as] διδασκαλίας doctrines ἐντάλματα [the] precepts ἀνθρώπων. of men.’

Καί And προσκαλεσάμενος having called to [Him] τόν the ὄχλον crowd, εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Ἀκούετε Hear καί and συνίετε· understand! οὐ Not τό what εἰσερχόμενον is entering εἰς into τό the στόμα mouth κοινοῖ defiles τόν the ἄνθρωπον, man; ἀλλά but τό that ἐκπορευόμενον going forth ἐκ out of τοῦ the στόματος mouth, τοῦτο this κοινοῖ defiles τόν the ἄνθρωπον. man.

Τότε Then προσελθόντες having come near, οἱ the μαθηταί disciples λέγουσιν said αὐτῷ· to Him, Οἶδας Know You ὅτι that οἱ the Φαρισαῖοι Pharisees, ἀκούσαντες having heard τόν the λόγον saying, ἐσκανδαλίσθησαν; were offended? ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering εἶπεν· He said, Πᾶσα Every φυτεία plant ἥν that οὐ not ἐφύτευσεν has planted ὁ the Πατήρ Father μου of Me ὁ - οὐράνιος Heavenly, ἐκριζωθήσεται. it will be rooted up. ἄφετε Leave αὐτούς· them! τυφλοί Blind εἰσίν they are ὁδηγοί guides τυφλῶν· of the blind. τυφλός Blind δέ now τυφλόν blind ἐάν if ὁδηγῇ, they lead, ἀμφότεροι both εἰς into βόθυνον a pit πεσοῦνται. will fall.

Ἀποκριθείς Answering δέ then, ὁ - Πέτρος Peter εἶπεν said αὐτῷ· to Him, Φράσον Explain ἡμῖν to us τήν the παραβολήν parable ταύτην. this. ὁ - δέ And εἶπεν· He said, Ἀκμήν Still καί also ὑμεῖς you ἀσύνετοι without understanding ἐστέ; are? οὐ Not yet νοεῖτε understand you ὅτι that πᾶν everything τό - εἰσπορευόμενον entering εἰς into τό the στόμα mouth, εἰς into τήν the κοιλίαν stomach χωρεῖ goes, καί and εἰς into ἀφεδρῶνα [the] sewer ἐκβάλλεται; is cast out? τά The things δέ however ἐκπορευόμενα going forth ἐκ out of τοῦ the στόματος mouth, ἐκ out of τῆς the καρδίας heart ἐξέρχεται, come forth, κἀκεῖνα and these κοινοῖ defile τόν the ἄνθρωπον. man. ἐκ Out of γάρ for τῆς the καρδίας heart ἐξέρχονται come forth διαλογισμοί thoughts πονηροί, evil, φόνοι, murders, μοιχεῖαι, adulteries, πορνεῖαι, sexual immorality, κλοπαί, thefts, ψευδομαρτυρίαι, false testimonies, βλασφημίαι. slanders. ταῦτα These ἐστίν are τά the things κοινοῦντα defiling τόν the ἄνθρωπον, man; τό - δέ but ἀνίπτοις with unwashed χερσίν hands φαγεῖν to eat, οὐ not κοινοῖ defiles τόν the ἄνθρωπον. man.

Καί And ἐξελθών having gone forth ἐκεῖθεν from there, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἀνεχώρησεν withdrew εἰς to τά the μέρη district Τύρου of Tyre καί and Σιδῶνος. Sidon. καί And ἰδού behold, γυνή a woman Χαναναία Canaanite ἀπό from τῶν the ὁρίων region ἐκείνων same, ἐξελθοῦσα having approached, ἔκραζεν was crying out, λέγουσα· saying, Ἐλέησον Have mercy on με, me, Κύριε Lord, υἱός Son Δαυίδ· of David; ἡ the θυγάτηρ daughter μου of me κακῶς miserably δαιμονίζεται. is possessed by a demon. ὁ - δέ And οὐ not ἀπεκρίθη He answered αὐτῇ her λόγον. a word. καί And προσελθόντες having come to [him], οἱ the μαθηταί disciples αὐτοῦ of Him ἠρώτουν were imploring αὐτόν Him, λέγοντες· saying, Ἀπόλυσον Dismiss αὐτήν, her, ὅτι for κράζει she cries out ὄπισθεν after ἡμῶν. us! ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering εἶπεν· He said, οὐκ Not ἀπεστάλην I was sent, εἰ if μή not εἰς to τά the πρόβατα sheep τά - ἀπολωλότα being lost οἴκου of [the] house Ἰσραήλ. of Israel. ἡ - δέ And ἐλθοῦσα having come, προσεκύνει she was worshiping αὐτῷ Him, λέγουσα· saying, Κύριε, Lord, βοήθει help μοι. me! ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering, εἶπεν· He said, οὐκ Not ἔστιν it is καλόν right λαβεῖν to take τόν the ἄρτον bread τῶν of the τέκνων children, καί and βαλεῖν to cast [it] τοῖς to the κυναρίοις. dogs. ἡ - δέ And εἶπεν· she said, Ναί Yes, κύριε, Lord; καί even γάρ however τά the κυνάρια dogs ἐσθίει eat ἀπό of τῶν the ψιχίων crumbs τῶν - πιπτόντων falling ἀπό from τῆς the τραπέζης table τῶν of the κυρίων masters αὐτῶν. of them. Τότε Then ἀποκριθείς answering, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν said αὐτῇ· to her, Ὦ O γύναι, woman, μεγάλη great [is] σου of you ἡ the πίστις· faith! γενηθήτω Be it σοι to you ὡς as θέλεις. you desire. καί And ἰάθη was healed ἡ the θυγάτηρ daughter αὐτῆς of her ἀπό from τῆς the ὥρας hour ἐκείνης. that.

Καί And μεταβάς having departed ἐκεῖθεν from there, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἦλθεν went παρά along τήν the θάλασσαν Sea τῆς - Γαλιλαίας, of Galilee; καί and ἀναβάς having gone up εἰς on τό the ὄρος mountain, ἐκάθητο He was sitting ἐκεῖ. there. καί And προσῆλθον came αὐτῷ to Him ὄχλοι crowds πολλοί great, ἔχοντες having μεθ ̓ with ἑαυτῶν them χωλούς, lame, τυφλούς, blind, κυλλούς, crippled, κωφούς, mute, καί and ἑτέρους others πολλούς many, καί and ἔρριψαν they placed αὐτούς them παρά at τούς the πόδας feet αὐτοῦ, of Him, καί and ἐθεράπευσεν He healed αὐτούς· them; ὥστε so that τόν the ὄχλον crowd θαυμάσαι marveled, βλέποντας seeing κωφούς mute λαλοῦντας, speaking, κυλλούς crippled ὑγιεῖς restored, καί and χωλούς lame περιπατοῦντας walking, καί and τυφλούς blind βλέποντας· seeing; καί and ἐδόξασαν they glorified τόν the Θεόν God Ἰσραήλ. of Israel.

ὁ - δέ And Ἰησοῦς Jesus, προσκαλεσάμενος having called to [him] τούς the μαθητάς disciples αὐτοῦ of Him, εἶπεν· said, Σπλαγχνίζομαι I am moved with compassion ἐπί toward τόν the ὄχλον, crowd, ὅτι because ἤδη already ἡμέραι days τρεῖς three προσμένουσιν they continue μοι with Me, καί and οὐ nothing ἔχουσιν have τί that φάγωσιν· they might eat; καί and ἀπολῦσαι to send away αὐτούς them νήστεις hungry, οὐ not θέλω, I am willing, μήποτε not lest ἐκλυθῶσιν they faint ἐν on τῇ the ὁδῷ. way. Καί And λέγουσιν say αὐτῷ to Him οἱ the μαθηταί· disciples, Πόθεν From where ἡμῖν to us ἐν in ἐρημίᾳ a secluded place, ἄρτοι loaves τοσοῦτοι so many ὥστε as χορτάσαι to satisfy ὄχλον a crowd τοσοῦτον; so great. Καί And λέγει says αὐτοῖς to them ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Πόσους How many ἄρτους loaves ἔχετε; have you? οἱ - δέ And εἶπαν· they said, Ἑπτά Seven, καί and ὀλίγα a few ἰχθύδια. small fish. Καί And παραγγείλας He having commanded τῷ the ὄχλῳ crowds ἀναπεσεῖν to sit down ἐπί on τήν the γῆν ground, ἔλαβεν having taken τούς the ἑπτά seven ἄρτους loaves καί and τούς the ἰχθύας fish, καί and εὐχαριστήσας having given thanks, ἔκλασεν He broke [them] καί and ἐδίδου was giving τοῖς to μαθηταῖς, disciples, οἱ - δέ and the μαθηταί disciples τοῖς to the ὄχλοις. crowd. Καί And ἔφαγον ate πάντες all καί and ἐχορτάσθησαν. were satisfied; καί and τό that περισσεῦον being over and above τῶν of the κλασμάτων fragments, ἦραν they took up ἑπτά seven σπυρίδας baskets πλήρεις. full. οἱ Those δέ then ἐσθίοντες eating ἦσαν were τετρακισχίλιοι four thousand ἄνδρες men, χωρίς besides γυναικῶν women καί and παιδίων. children.

Καί And προσελθόντες having approached, οἱ the Φαρισαῖοι Pharisees καί and Σαδδουκαῖοι Sadducees, πειράζοντες testing , ἐπηρώτησαν asked αὐτόν Him σημεῖον a sign ἐκ out of τοῦ - οὐρανοῦ heaven ἐπιδεῖξαι to show αὐτοῖς. them. ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Ὀψίας Evening γενομένης having come, λέγετε· you say, Εὐδία, Fair weather; πυρράζει is red γάρ for ὁ the οὐρανός· sky. καί And πρωΐ· in the morning, Σήμερον Today χειμών, a storm; πυρράζει is red γάρ for στυγνάζων being overcast ὁ the οὐρανός. sky. τό The μέν indeed πρόσωπον appearance τοῦ of the οὐρανοῦ sky γινώσκετε you know [how] διακρίνειν, to discern, τά - δέ but σημεῖα the signs τῶν of the καιρῶν times, οὐ not δύνασθε; you are able! γενεά A generation πονηρά evil καί and μοιχαλίς adulterous, σημεῖον a sign ἐπιζητεῖ, seeks, καί and σημεῖον a sign οὐ not δοθήσεται will be given αὐτῇ to it, εἰ if μή not τό the σημεῖον sign Ἰωνᾶ. of Jonah. καί And καταλιπών having left αὐτούς them, ἀπῆλθεν. Γνούς Having known [this] δέ however, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν· said, Τί Why διαλογίζεσθε reason you ἐν among ἑαυτοῖς, yourselves, ὀλιγόπιστοι, O [you] of little faith, ὅτι because ἄρτους bread οὐ not ἔχετε; you took? οὔπω Not yet νοεῖτε, do you understand, οὐδέ nor μνημονεύετε remember τούς the πέντε five ἄρτους loaves τῶν for the πεντακισχιλίων five thousand, καί and πόσους how many κοφίνους hand-baskets ἐλάβετε; you gathered? οὐδέ Nor τούς the ἑπτά seven ἄρτους loaves τῶν for the τετρακισχιλίων four thousand, καί and πόσας how many σπυρίδας baskets ἐλάβετε; you gathered? πῶς How οὐ not νοεῖτε understand you ὅτι that, οὐ not περί concerning ἄρτων bread εἶπον I spoke ὑμῖν; to you, προσέχετε to beware δέ also ἀπό of τῆς the ζύμης leaven τῶν of the Φαρισαίων Pharisees καί and Σαδδουκαίων. Sadducees? Τότε Then συνῆκαν they understood ὅτι that οὐ not εἶπεν He said προσέχειν to beware ἀπό of τῆς the ζύμης leaven τῶν of ἄρτων bread, ἀλλά but ἀπό of τῆς the διδαχῆς teaching τῶν of the Φαρισαίων Pharisees καί and Σαδδουκαίων. Sadducees.

Ἐλθών Having come δέ then ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἰς into τά the μέρη district Καισαρείας of Caesarea τῆς - Φιλίππου Philippi, ἠρώτα He was questioning τούς the μαθητάς disciples αὐτοῦ of Him, λέγων· saying, Τίνα Whom λέγουσιν do pronounce οἱ - ἄνθρωποι men εἶναι to be τόν the Υἱόν Son τοῦ of ἀνθρώπου; man? οἱ - δέ And εἶπαν· they said, οἱ Some μέν indeed Ἰωάννην John τόν the Βαπτιστήν, Baptist; ἄλλοι others δέ now Ἠλίαν, Elijah; ἕτεροι others δέ now Ἰερεμίαν Jeremiah, ἤ or ἕνα one τῶν of the προφητῶν. prophets. Λέγει He says αὐτοῖς· to them, Ὑμεῖς You δέ but τίνα whom με Me λέγετε do you pronounce εἶναι; to be? Ἀποκριθείς Answering δέ now, Σίμων Simon Πέτρος Peter εἶπεν· said, Σύ You εἶ are ὁ the Χριστός Christ, ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ of Θεοῦ God τοῦ the ζῶντος. living. Ἀποκριθείς Answering δέ now, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν said αὐτῷ· to him, Μακάριος Blessed εἶ, are you, Σίμων Simon Βαριωνᾶ, Barjona! ὅτι For σάρξ flesh καί and αἷμα blood οὐ not ἀπεκάλυψεν revealed [it] σοι to you, ἀλλ ̓ but ὁ the Πατήρ Father μου of Me, ὁ who [is] ἐν in τοῖς the οὐρανοῖς. heavens.
