Ὅτε When δέ now ἡμέρα day ἐγένετο, it was, τήν the γῆν land οὐ not ἐπεγίνωσκον, they did recognize; κόλπον a bay δέ however τινά certain κατενόουν they noticed, ἔχοντα having αἰγιαλόν a shore, εἰς on ὅν which ἐβουλεύοντο they determined, εἰ if δύναιντο they should be able, ἐξῶσαι to drive τό the πλοῖον. ship. καί And τάς the ἀγκύρας anchors περιελόντες having cut away, εἴων they left [them] εἰς in τήν the θάλασσαν, sea, ἅμα at the same time ἀνέντες having loosened τάς the ζευκτηρίας ropes τῶν of the πηδαλίων rudders. καί And ἐπάραντες having hoisted τόν the ἀρτέμωνα foresail τῇ to the πνεούσῃ blowing [wind], κατεῖχον they began making εἰς for τόν the αἰγιαλόν. shore. περιπεσόντες Having fallen δέ however εἰς into τόπον a place διθάλασσον between two seas, ἐπέκειλαν they ran aground τήν the ναῦν vessel; καί and ἡ the μέν indeed πρῷρα bow ἐρείσασα having stuck fast, ἔμεινεν it remained ἀσάλευτος, immovable, ἡ - δέ and πρύμνα the stern ἐλύετο was being broken up ὑπό by τῆς the βίας violence τῶν of the κυμάτων. waves. Καί And διασωθέντες having been saved, τότε then ἐπέγνωμεν we found out ὅτι that Μελίτη Malta ἡ the νῆσος island καλεῖται. is called. οἵ - τέ And βάρβαροι the natives παρεῖχον were showing οὐ not [just] τήν the τυχοῦσαν ordinary φιλανθρωπίαν kindness ἡμῖν, to us. ἅψαντες Having kindled γάρ for πυράν a fire, προσελάβοντο they received πάντας all ἡμᾶς of us διά because of τόν the ὑετόν rain τόν - ἐφεστῶτα coming on καί and διά because τό of the ψῦχος. cold. ἐν In δέ now τοῖς the [parts] περί around τόν the τόπον place ἐκεῖνον that ὑπῆρχεν were χωρία lands τῷ belonging to the πρώτῳ chief τῆς of the νήσου island, ὀνόματι named Ποπλίῳ, Publius, ὅς who ἀναδεξάμενος having received ἡμᾶς us τρεῖς three, ἡμέρας days φιλοφρόνως hospitably ἐξένισεν. entertained [us]. ἐγένετο It came to pass δέ then, τόν the πατέρα father τοῦ - Ποπλίου of Publius, πυρετοῖς fevers καί and δυσεντερίῳ dysentery συνεχόμενον oppressed with, κατακεῖσθαι, was lying, πρός toward ὅν whom ὁ - Παῦλος Paul, εἰσελθών having entered καί and προσευξάμενος having prayed, ἐπιθείς having laid τάς the χεῖρας hands αὐτῷ on him, ἰάσατο healed αὐτόν. him. τούτου Of this δέ then γενομένου having taken place, καί also οἱ the λοιποί rest οἱ - ἐν in τῇ the νήσῳ island ἔχοντες having ἀσθενείας infirmities προσήρχοντο were coming καί and ἐθεραπεύοντο, were healed, οἵ who καί also πολλαῖς with many τιμαῖς honors ἐτίμησαν honored ἡμᾶς us, καί and ἀναγομένοις on setting sail, ἐπέθεντο they laid on [us] τά the things πρός for τάς the χρείας. needs.

Μετά After δέ then τρεῖς three μῆνας months, ἀνήχθημεν we sailed ἐν in πλοίῳ a ship παρακεχειμακότι having wintered ἐν in τῇ the νήσῳ, island, Ἀλεξανδρινῷ, Alexandrian, παρασήμῳ with a figurehead of Διοσκούροις. the Dioscuri. καί And καταχθέντες having put in εἰς at Συρακούσας Syracuse, ἐπεμείναμεν we stayed ἡμέρας days τρεῖς, three, ὅθεν from where περιελόντες having gone around, κατηντήσαμεν we arrived εἰς at Ῥήγιον. Rhegium. καί And μετά after μίαν one ἡμέραν day, ἐπιγενομένου having come on νότου a south wind, δευτεραῖοι on the second day ἤλθομεν we came εἰς to Ποτιόλους, Puteoli, οὗ where εὑρόντες having found ἀδελφούς [some] brothers, παρεκλήθημεν we were entreated παρ ̓ with αὐτοῖς them ἐπιμεῖναι to remain ἡμέρας days ἑπτά· seven. καί And οὕτως so εἰς to τήν - Ῥώμην Rome ἤλθαμεν. we came. Κἀκεῖθεν And from there οἱ the ἀδελφοί brothers, ἀκούσαντες having heard τά the things περί concerning ἡμῶν us, ἦλθαν came out εἰς to ἀπάντησιν meet ἡμῖν us ἄχρι as far as Ἀππίου of Appius Φόρου [the] market καί and Τριῶν [the] Three Ταβερνῶν, Taverns, οὕς whom ἰδών having seen ὁ - Παῦλος Paul, εὐχαριστήσας having given thanks τῷ to Θεῷ God, ἔλαβε took θάρσος. courage. Ὅτε When δέ now εἰσήλθομεν we came εἰς to Ῥώμην, Rome, ἐπετράπη was allowed τῷ - Παύλῳ Paul μένειν to stay καθ ̓ by ἑαυτόν himself, σύν with τῷ the φυλάσσοντι guarding αὐτόν him στρατιώτῃ. soldier.

Ἐγένετο It came to pass δέ then, μετά after ἡμέρας days τρεῖς three συνκαλέσασθαι called together αὐτόν he τούς those ὄντας being τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews πρώτους· leaders. συνελθόντων Having come together δέ then αὐτῶν of them, ἔλεγεν he was saying πρός to αὐτούς· them, Ἐγώ, I, ἄνδρες men, ἀδελφοί, brothers, οὐδέν nothing ἐναντίον against ποιήσας having done τῷ the λαῷ people ἤ or τοῖς the ἔθεσι customs τοῖς - πατρῴοις of our fathers, δέσμιος a prisoner ἐκ from Ἱεροσολύμων Jerusalem παρεδόθην was delivered εἰς into τάς the χεῖρας hands τῶν of the Ῥωμαίων, Romans, οἵτινες who ἀνακρίναντες having examined με me, ἐβούλοντο were wanting ἀπολῦσαι to let [me] go, διά on account of τό - μηδεμίαν not one αἰτίαν cause θανάτου of death ὑπάρχειν existing ἐν in ἐμοί. me. ἀντιλεγόντων Objecting δέ however τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews, ἠναγκάσθην I was compelled ἐπικαλέσασθαι to appeal to Καίσαρα Caesar, οὐ not ὡς as τοῦ the ἔθνους nation μου of me ἔχων having τὶ anything κατηγορεῖν. to lay against. διά For ταύτην this οὖν therefore τήν - αἰτίαν cause παρεκάλεσα I have called ὑμᾶς you, ἰδεῖν to see καί and προσλαλῆσαι, to speak to [you]; ἕνεκεν because of γάρ for τῆς the ἐλπίδος hope τοῦ - Ἰσραήλ of Israel, τήν the ἅλυσιν chain ταύτην this περίκειμαι. I have around [me]. οἱ - δέ And πρός to αὐτόν him εἶπαν· they said, Ἡμεῖς We οὔτε neither γράμματα letters περί concerning σοῦ you ἐδεξάμεθα received ἀπό from τῆς - Ἰουδαίας Judea, οὔτε nor παραγενόμενος having arrived τὶς any τῶν of the ἀδελφῶν brothers ἀπήγγειλεν reported ἤ or ἐλάλησεν said τὶ anything περί concerning σοῦ you πονηρόν. evil. ἀξιοῦμεν We deem it worthy δέ however παρά from σοῦ you ἀκοῦσαι to hear ἅ what φρονεῖς, you think, περί concerning μέν truly γάρ for τῆς the αἱρέσεως sect ταύτης this, γνωστόν known ἡμῖν to us ἐστίν it is ὅτι that πανταχοῦ everywhere ἀντιλέγεται. it is spoken against.

Καί And οἱ some μέν indeed ἐπείθοντο were persuaded of τοῖς the things λεγομένοις, he is speaking; οἱ some δέ however ἠπίστουν· refused to believe. ἀσύμφωνοι Discordant δέ then ὄντες being πρός with ἀλλήλους one another, ἀπελύοντο they began to leave, εἰπόντος having spoken τοῦ - Παύλου Paul ῥῆμα word ἕν, one ὅτι -: Καλῶς Rightly τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit τό - Ἅγιον Holy ἐλάλησεν spoke διά by Ἠσαΐου Isaiah τοῦ the προφήτου prophet πρός to τούς the πατέρας fathers ὑμῶν of you, λέγων· saying: Πορεύθητι Go πρός to τόν the λαόν people τοῦτον this καί and εἰπόν· say, Ἀκοῇ In hearing ἀκούσετε you will hear καί and οὐ no μή not συνῆτε understand; καί and βλέποντες in seeing βλέψετε you will see καί and οὐ no μή not ἴδητε· perceive. ἐπαχύνθη Has grown dull γάρ for ἡ the καρδία heart τοῦ of the λαοῦ people τούτου this, καί and τοῖς with the ὠσίν ears βαρέως barely ἤκουσαν they hear, καί and τούς the ὀφθαλμούς eyes αὐτῶν of them ἐκάμμυσαν· they have closed, μήποτε lest ever ἴδωσιν they should see τοῖς with the ὀφθαλμοῖς eyes, καί and τοῖς with the ὠσίν ears ἀκούσωσιν they should hear, καί and τῇ with the καρδίᾳ heart συνῶσιν they should understand, καί and ἐπιστρέψωσιν, should turn, καί and ἰάσομαι I will heal αὐτούς. them.’
