Ὅθεν, So then, βασιλεῦ O king Ἀγρίππα, Agrippa, οὐ not ἐγενόμην I was ἀπειθής disobedient τῇ to the οὐρανίῳ heavenly ὀπτασίᾳ vision, ἀλλά but τοῖς to those ἐν in Δαμασκῷ Damascus πρῶτον first, τέ both καί and Ἱεροσολύμοις, Jerusalem πᾶσαν all, τέ and τήν the χώραν region τῆς - Ἰουδαίας of Judea, καί and τοῖς to the ἔθνεσιν Gentiles, ἀπήγγελλον I kept declaring μετανοεῖν to repent καί and ἐπιστρέφειν to turn ἐπί to τόν - Θεόν, God, ἄξια worthy τῆς - μετανοίας of repentance ἔργα works πράσσοντας. doing. ἕνεκα On account of τούτων these things, με me Ἰουδαῖοι the Jews συλλαβόμενοι having seized ὄντα being ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple, ἐπειρῶντο they were attempting διαχειρίσασθαι. to kill. Ἐπικουρίας Help οὖν therefore τυχών having obtained τῆς - ἀπό from τοῦ - Θεοῦ God ἄχρι unto τῆς the ἡμέρας day ταύτης this, ἕστηκα I have stood, μαρτυρόμενος bearing witness μικρῷ to small τέ both καί and μεγάλῳ to great, οὐδέν nothing ἐκτός other λέγων saying ὧν than what τέ both οἱ the προφῆται prophets ἐλάλησαν said μελλόντων was about γίνεσθαι to happen, καί and Μωϋσῆς, Moses, εἰ that παθητός would suffer ὁ the Χριστός, Christ; εἰ as πρῶτος first ἐκ through ἀναστάσεως resurrection νεκρῶν from [the] dead, φῶς light μέλλει He is about καταγγέλλειν to preach τῷ to τέ both λαῷ our people καί and τοῖς to the ἔθνεσιν. Ταῦτα These things δέ now αὐτοῦ of him ἀπολογουμένου saying in his defense, ὁ - Φῆστος Festus μεγάλῃ in a loud τῇ - φωνῇ voice φησίν· said, Μαίνῃ, You are insane, Παῦλε· Paul! τά The πολλά great σε of you γράμματα learning, εἰς to μανίαν insanity περιτρέπει. turns [you]! ὁ - δέ But Παῦλος· Paul, οὐ Not μαίνομαι, I am insane, φησίν, says, Κράτιστε most excellent Φῆστε, Festus, ἀλλά but ἀληθείας of truth καί and σωφροσύνης sobriety ῥήματα words ἀποφθέγγομαι. ὡς When δέ now ἐκρίθη was determined τοῦ - ἀποπλεῖν sailing ἡμᾶς our εἰς to τήν - Ἰταλίαν, Italy, παρεδίδουν they delivered τόν - τέ both Παῦλον Paul καί and τινάς certain ἑτέρους other δεσμώτας prisoners ἑκατοντάρχῃ to a centurion, ὀνόματι named Ἰουλίῳ Julius σπείρης of the cohort Σεβαστῆς. of Augustus. ἐπιβάντες Having boarded δέ then πλοίῳ a ship Ἀδραμυττηνῷ of Adramyttium μέλλοντι being about πλεῖν to sail εἰς to τούς the κατά along τήν - Ἀσίαν Asia τόπους places, ἀνήχθημεν we set sail — ὄντος being σύν with ἡμῖν us Ἀριστάρχου Aristarchus, Μακεδόνος a Macedonian Θεσσαλονικέως. of Thessalonica. Κἀκεῖ And there, εὑρών having found ὁ the ἑκατοντάρχης centurion πλοῖον a ship Ἀλεξανδρῖνον of Alexandria πλέον sailing εἰς to τήν - Ἰταλίαν Italy, ἐνεβίβασεν he placed ἡμᾶς us εἰς into αὐτό. it. ἐν For ἱκαναῖς many δέ now ἡμέραις days, βραδυπλοοῦντες sailing slowly καί and μόλις with difficulty, γενόμενοι having arrived κατά off τήν - Κνίδον, Cnidus, μή not προσεῶντος permitting ἡμᾶς us τοῦ the ἀνέμου wind, ὑπεπλεύσαμεν we sailed under τήν - Κρήτην Crete, κατά off Σαλμώνην, Salmone. μόλις With difficulty τέ and παραλεγόμενοι coasting along αὐτήν it, ἤλθομεν we came εἰς to τόπον a place τινά certain καλούμενον called Καλούς Fair Λιμένας Havens, ᾧ to which ἐγγύς near πόλις [the] city ἦν was Λασαία. of Lasea.

Ἱκανοῦ Much δέ now χρόνου time διαγενομένου having passed, καί and ὄντος being ἤδη already ἐπισφαλοῦς dangerous τοῦ the πλοός voyage, διά because of τό - καί even τήν the Νηστείαν Fast ἤδη already παρεληλυθέναι being over, παρῄνει was admonishing [them] ὁ - Παῦλος Paul, λέγων saying αὐτοῖς· to them, Ἄνδρες, Men, θεωρῶ I understand ὅτι that μετά with ὕβρεως disaster καί and πολλῆς much ζημίας loss, οὐ not μόνον only τοῦ of the φορτίου cargo καί and τοῦ of the πλοίου ship, ἀλλά but καί also τῶν the ψυχῶν lives ἡμῶν of us, μέλλειν is about ἔσεσθαι to be τόν the πλοῦν. voyage. ὁ - δέ But ἑκατοντάρχης the centurion τῷ by the κυβερνήτῃ pilot καί and τῷ the ναυκλήρῳ ship owner μᾶλλον rather ἐπείθετο was persuaded, ἤ than τοῖς by the things ὑπό by Παύλου Paul λεγομένοις. spoken. ἀνευθέτου Unsuitable δέ now τοῦ the λιμένος harbor ὑπάρχοντος being πρός to παραχειμασίαν winter in, οἱ the πλείονες majority ἔθεντο reached βουλήν a decision ἀναχθῆναι to set sail ἐκεῖθεν, from there, εἴ if πώς somehow δύναιντο they might be able, καταντήσαντες having arrived εἰς at Φοίνικα Phoenix, παραχειμάσαι to winter [there] — λιμένα a harbor τῆς - Κρήτης of Crete, βλέποντα looking κατά toward λίβα [the] southwest καί and κατά toward χῶρον. Ὑποπνεύσαντος Having blown gently δέ now νότου a south wind, δόξαντες having thought τῆς the προθέσεως purpose κεκρατηκέναι, to have obtained, ἄραντες having weighed [anchor], ἆσσον very near παρελέγοντο they began coasting along τήν - Κρήτην. Crete. μετ ̓ After οὐ not πολύ long δέ however, ἔβαλεν there came κατ ̓ down αὐτῆς from it ἄνεμος a wind τυφωνικός tempestuous, ὁ - καλούμενος called Εὐρακύλων· the Northeaster. συναρπασθέντος Having been caught δέ then τοῦ the πλοίου ship, καί and μή not δυναμένου being able ἀντοφθαλμεῖν to face τῷ to the ἀνέμῳ wind, ἐπιδόντες having given way ἐφερόμεθα. we were driven along. Πολλῆς Much τέ also ἀσιτίας time without food ὑπαρχούσης there being, τότε at that time σταθείς having stood up ὁ - Παῦλος Paul ἐν in μέσῳ midst αὐτῶν of them, εἶπεν· he said, Ἔδει It behooved [you] μέν, indeed, ὦ O ἄνδρες, men, πειθαρχήσαντας having been obedient μοι to me, μή not ἀνάγεσθαι to have set sail ἀπό from τῆς - Κρήτης Crete, κερδῆσαι to have incurred τέ then τήν the ὕβριν disaster ταύτην this καί and τήν - ζημίαν. loss. καί And yet τά - νῦν now παραινῶ I exhort ὑμᾶς you εὐθυμεῖν· to keep up your courage; ἀποβολή loss γάρ for ψυχῆς of life οὐδεμία none ἔσται there will be ἐκ from among ὑμῶν you, πλήν only τοῦ of the πλοίου. ship. παρέστη Stood by γάρ for μοι me ταύτῃ this τῇ - νυκτί night τοῦ -, Θεοῦ, of God, οὗ whose εἰμί am ἐγώ I ᾧ whom καί and λατρεύω, I serve, ἄγγελος an angel, λέγων· saying, Μή Not φοβοῦ, fear, Παῦλε, Paul; Καίσαρι Caesar σε you δεῖ it behooves παραστῆναι, to stand before. καί And ἰδού behold, κεχάρισται has granted σοι to you ὁ - Θεός God πάντας all τούς those πλέοντας sailing μετά with σοῦ. you. ὡς When δέ then τεσσαρεσκαιδεκάτη the fourteenth νύξ night ἐγένετο had come, διαφερομένων being driven about ἡμῶν of us ἐν in τῷ the Ἀδρίᾳ, Adriatic, κατά toward μέσον [the] middle τῆς of the νυκτός night, ὑπενόουν began sensing οἱ the ναῦται sailors προσάγειν to be drawing near τινά some αὐτοῖς to them χώραν. land. καί And βολίσαντες having taken soundings, εὗρον they found ὀργυιάς fathoms εἴκοσι, twenty. βραχύ A little δέ then διαστήσαντες having gone farther καί and πάλιν again βολίσαντες having taken soundings, εὗρον they found ὀργυιάς fathoms δεκαπέντε· fifteen. φοβούμενοι Fearing τέ then μή lest πού somewhere κατά on τραχεῖς rocky τόπους places ἐκπέσωμεν, we might fall, ἐκ out of [the] πρύμνης stern ῥίψαντες having cast ἀγκύρας anchors τέσσαρας four, ηὔχοντο they were praying for ἡμέραν day γενέσθαι. to come. Τῶν Of the δέ then ναυτῶν sailors ζητούντων seeking φυγεῖν to flee ἐκ out of τοῦ the πλοίου ship καί and χαλασάντων having let down τήν the σκάφην lifeboat εἰς into τήν the θάλασσαν sea προφάσει under pretense ὡς as ἐκ from πρῴρης [the] bow ἀγκύρας anchors μελλόντων being about ἐκτείνειν, to cast out, εἶπεν said ὁ - Παῦλος Paul τῷ to the ἑκατοντάρχῃ centurion καί and τοῖς to the στρατιώταις· soldiers, Ἐάν If μή not οὗτοι these μείνωσιν remain ἐν in τῷ the πλοίῳ, ship, ὑμεῖς you σωθῆναι to be saved οὐ not δύνασθε. are able. τότε Then ἀπέκοψαν cut away οἱ the στρατιῶται soldiers τά the σχοινία ropes τῆς of the σκάφης lifeboat, καί and εἴασαν allowed αὐτήν her ἐκπεσεῖν. to fall away.

Ἄχρι Until δέ then οὗ that ἡμέρα day ἤμελλεν was about γίνεσθαι, to come, παρεκάλει kept urging ὁ - Παῦλος Paul ἅπαντας all μεταλαβεῖν to partake τροφῆς of food, λέγων· saying, Τεσσαρεσκαιδεκάτην The fourteenth σήμερον today ἡμέραν [is] day προσδοκῶντες watching ἄσιτοι without eating διατελεῖτε you continue, μηθέν nothing προσλαβόμενοι. having taken. διό Therefore παρακαλῶ I exhort ὑμᾶς you μεταλαβεῖν to take τροφῆς· food; τοῦτο this γάρ indeed πρός for τῆς - ὑμετέρας of you σωτηρίας preservation ὑπάρχει, is; οὐδενός not one γάρ for ὑμῶν of you θρίξ a hair ἀπό of τῆς the κεφαλῆς head ἀπολεῖται. will perish. Εἴπας Having said δέ now ταῦτα these things καί and λαβών having taken ἄρτον bread, εὐχαρίστησεν he gave thanks τῷ - Θεῷ to God ἐνώπιον before πάντων all, καί and κλάσας having broken [it], ἤρξατο he began ἐσθίειν. to eat. εὔθυμοι Encouraged δέ then γενόμενοι having been, πάντες all καί also αὐτοί themselves προσελάβοντο took τροφῆς. food. ἤμεθα We were δέ then αἱ the πᾶσαι altogether ψυχαί souls ἐν in τῷ the πλοίῳ ship, διακόσιαι two hundred ἑβδομήκοντα seventy ἕξ. six. κορεσθέντες Having been filled δέ then τροφῆς with food, ἐκούφιζον they began to lighten τό the πλοῖον ship, ἐκβαλλόμενοι casting out τόν the σῖτον wheat εἰς into τήν the θάλασσαν. sea.

Ὅτε When δέ now ἡμέρα day ἐγένετο, it was, τήν the γῆν land οὐ not ἐπεγίνωσκον, they did recognize; κόλπον a bay δέ however τινά certain κατενόουν they noticed, ἔχοντα having αἰγιαλόν a shore, εἰς on ὅν which ἐβουλεύοντο they determined, εἰ if δύναιντο they should be able, ἐξῶσαι to drive τό the πλοῖον. ship. καί And τάς the ἀγκύρας anchors περιελόντες having cut away, εἴων they left [them] εἰς in τήν the θάλασσαν, sea, ἅμα at the same time ἀνέντες having loosened τάς the ζευκτηρίας ropes τῶν of the πηδαλίων rudders. καί And ἐπάραντες having hoisted τόν the ἀρτέμωνα foresail τῇ to the πνεούσῃ blowing [wind], κατεῖχον they began making εἰς for τόν the αἰγιαλόν. shore. περιπεσόντες Having fallen δέ however εἰς into τόπον a place διθάλασσον between two seas, ἐπέκειλαν they ran aground τήν the ναῦν vessel; καί and ἡ the μέν indeed πρῷρα bow ἐρείσασα having stuck fast, ἔμεινεν it remained ἀσάλευτος, immovable, ἡ - δέ and πρύμνα the stern ἐλύετο was being broken up ὑπό by τῆς the βίας violence τῶν of the κυμάτων. waves.
