εἰ If μέν indeed οὖν therefore ἀδικῶ I do wrong, καί and ἄξιον worthy θανάτου of death πέπραχα have done τὶ, anything, οὐ not παραιτοῦμαι I do refuse τό - ἀποθανεῖν· to die. εἰ If δέ however οὐδέν nothing ἐστίν there is ὧν of which οὗτοι they κατηγοροῦσιν [can] accuse μου, me, οὐδείς no one με me δύναται can αὐτοῖς to them χαρίσασθαι· give up. Καίσαρα To Caesar ἐπικαλοῦμαι. I appeal! Τότε Then ὁ - Φῆστος Festus, συλλαλήσας having conferred μετά with τοῦ the συμβουλίου Council, ἀπεκρίθη· answered, Καίσαρα To Caesar ἐπικέκλησαι, You have appealed; ἐπί to Καίσαρα Caesar πορεύσῃ. you will go!
Ἡμερῶν Days δέ now διαγενομένων having passed τινῶν some, Ἀγρίππας Agrippa ὁ the βασιλεύς king καί and Βερνίκη Bernice κατήντησαν came down εἰς to Καισάρειαν Caesarea, ἀσπασάμενοι greeting τόν - Φῆστον. Festus. ὡς As δέ now πλείους many ἡμέρας days διέτριβον they stayed ἐκεῖ, there, ὁ - Φῆστος Festus, τῷ the βασιλεῖ king ἀνέθετο laid before, τά the things κατά relating to τόν - Παῦλον Paul, λέγων· saying, Ἀνήρ A man τίς certain ἐστίν there is καταλελειμμένος left ὑπό by Φήλικος Felix δέσμιος, [as] a prisoner, περί concerning οὗ whom, γενομένου having been μου my εἰς in Ἱεροσόλυμα Jerusalem, ἐνεφάνισαν made a presentation οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and οἱ the πρεσβύτεροι elders τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews, αἰτούμενοι asking κατ ̓ against αὐτοῦ him καταδίκην. judgment, πρός to οὕς whom ἀπεκρίθην I answered ὅτι that οὐ not ἔστιν it is ἔθος [the] custom Ῥωμαίοις with Romans χαρίζεσθαι to give up τινά any ἄνθρωπον man πρίν before ἤ that ὁ the [one] κατηγορούμενος being accused κατά to πρόσωπον face ἔχοι may have [it] τούς the κατηγόρους accusers τόπον [the] opportunity, τέ and ἀπολογίας of defense λάβοι he may have περί concerning τοῦ the ἐγκλήματος. accusation. Συνελθόντων Having come together οὖν therefore αὐτῶν of them ἐνθάδε here, ἀναβολήν delay μηδεμίαν no ποιησάμενος having made, τῇ the ἑξῆς next [day] καθίσας having sat ἐπί on τοῦ the βήματος judgment seat, ἐκέλευσα I commanded ἀχθῆναι to be brought τόν the ἄνδρα· man, περί concerning οὗ whom, σταθέντες having stood up, οἱ the κατήγοροι accusers οὐδεμίαν no αἰτίαν charge ἔφερον were bringing ὧν of which ἐγώ I ὑπενόουν was expecting πονηρῶν, crimes. ζητήματα Questions δέ however τινά certain περί concerning τῆς the ἰδίας own δεισιδαιμονίας religion εἶχον they had πρός against αὐτόν him, καί and περί concerning τινός a certain Ἰησοῦ Jesus τεθνηκότος having been dead, ὅν whom ἔφασκεν was affirming ὁ - Παῦλος Paul ζῆν. to be alive. Ἀπορούμενος Being perplexed δέ now, ἐγώ I τήν - περί concerning τούτων this ζήτησιν inquiry ἔλεγον was asking εἰ if βούλοιτο he was willing πορεύεσθαι to go εἰς to Ἱεροσόλυμα Jerusalem κἀκεῖ and there κρίνεσθαι to be judged περί concerning τούτων. these things. τοῦ - δέ But Παύλου of Paul ἐπικαλεσαμένου having appealed for τηρηθῆναι to be kept αὐτόν himself εἰς for τήν the τοῦ - Σεβαστοῦ Emperor's διάγνωσιν, decision, ἐκέλευσα I commanded τηρεῖσθαι to be kept αὐτόν him ἕως until οὗ that ἀναπέμψω I might send αὐτόν him πρός to Καίσαρα. Caesar. Ἀγρίππας Agrippa δέ then πρός [said] to τόν - Φῆστον· Festus, Ἐβουλόμην I have been wanting καί also αὐτός myself τοῦ the ἀνθρώπου man ἀκοῦσαι. to hear. Αὔριον, Tomorrow, φησίν, he says, Ἀκούσῃ you will hear αὐτοῦ. him.
Τῇ On the οὖν therefore ἐπαύριον next day, ἐλθόντος having come τοῦ - Ἀγρίππα Agrippa καί and τῆς - Βερνίκης Bernice μετά with πολλῆς great φαντασίας pomp, καί and εἰσελθόντων having entered εἰς into τό the ἀκροατήριον audience hall, σύν with τέ both χιλιάρχοις [the] commanders καί and ἀνδράσιν men τοῖς - κατ ̓ in ἐξοχήν prominence τῆς in the πόλεως city, καί and κελεύσαντος having commanded τοῦ - Φήστου Festus, ἤχθη was brought in ὁ - Παῦλος. Paul. Καί And φησίν says ὁ - Φῆστος· Festus, Ἀγρίππα Agrippa βασιλεῦ King, καί and πάντες all οἱ the συμπαρόντες being present with ἡμῖν us ἄνδρες, men, θεωρεῖτε you see τοῦτον this one, περί concerning οὗ whom ἅπαν all τό the πλῆθος multitude τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews ἐνέτυχον pleaded μοι with me, ἔν in τέ both Ἱεροσολύμοις Jerusalem καί and ἐνθάδε here, βοῶντες crying out [that] μή not δεῖν he ought αὐτόν of him ζῆν to live μηκέτι. no longer. ἐγώ I δέ however, κατελαβόμην having understood μηδέν nothing ἄξιον worthy αὐτόν him θανάτου of death πεπραχέναι, to have done, αὐτοῦ himself δέ and τούτου of this one ἐπικαλεσαμένου having appealed to τόν the Σεβαστόν Emperor, ἔκρινα I determined πέμπειν. to send [him], περί concerning οὗ whom, ἀσφαλές definite τὶ anything γράψαι to write τῷ to κυρίῳ [my] lord, οὐ not ἔχω, I have. διό Therefore προήγαγον I have brought αὐτόν him ἐφ ̓ before ὑμῶν you all, καί and μάλιστα especially ἐπί before σοῦ, you, βασιλεῦ King Ἀγρίππα, Agrippa, ὅπως so that τῆς the ἀνακρίσεως examination γενομένης having taken place, σχῶ I might have τί something γράψω· to write. ἄλογον Absurd γάρ for μοι to me δοκεῖ it seems πέμποντα [in] sending δέσμιον a prisoner, μή not καί also τάς the κατ ̓ against αὐτοῦ him αἰτίας charges σημᾶναι. to specify.
Ἀγρίππας Agrippa δέ then πρός to τόν - Παῦλον Paul ἔφη· was saying, Ἐπιτρέπεται It is permitted σοι you περί for σεαυτοῦ yourself λέγειν. to speak. Τότε Then ὁ - Παῦλος Paul, ἐκτείνας having stretched out τήν the χεῖρα hand, ἀπελογεῖτο· began his defense: Περί Concerning πάντων all ὧν of which ἐγκαλοῦμαι I am accused ὑπό by Ἰουδαίων, [the] Jews, βασιλεῦ King Ἀγρίππα, Agrippa, ἥγημαι I esteem ἐμαυτόν myself μακάριον fortunate ἐπί before σοῦ you, μέλλων being about σήμερον today ἀπολογεῖσθαι to defend myself. μάλιστα Especially γνώστην acquainted ὄντα being σε you πάντων with all τῶν the κατά of Ἰουδαίους [the] Jews ἐθῶν customs, τέ and καί also ζητημάτων, controversies; διό therefore δέομαι I implore [you] μακροθύμως patiently ἀκοῦσαι to hear μου. me.
