Γενομένης When it was δέ then ἡμέρας day, ποιήσαντες having made συστροφήν a conspiracy, οἱ the Ἰουδαῖοι Jews ἀνεθεμάτισαν put under an oath ἑαυτούς themselves, λέγοντες declaring μήτε neither φαγεῖν to eat μήτε nor πιεῖν to drink ἕως until οὗ that ἀποκτείνωσιν they should kill τόν - Παῦλον. Paul. ἦσαν There were δέ now πλείους more than τεσσεράκοντα forty, οἱ - ταύτην this τήν - συνωμοσίαν plot ποιησάμενοι, having made, οἵτινες who, προσελθόντες having come τοῖς to the ἀρχιερεῦσιν chief priests καί and τοῖς the πρεσβυτέροις elders, εἶπαν· said, Ἀναθέματι With an oath ἀνεθεματίσαμεν we have bound ἑαυτούς ourselves, μηδενός nothing γεύσασθαι to eat ἕως until οὗ that ἀποκτείνωμεν we should kill τόν - Παῦλον. Paul. νῦν Now οὖν therefore ὑμεῖς you, ἐμφανίσατε make a report τῷ to the χιλιάρχῳ commander σύν along with τῷ the συνεδρίῳ Council, ὅπως so that καταγάγῃ he might bring down αὐτόν him εἰς to ὑμᾶς you, ὡς as μέλλοντας being about διαγινώσκειν to examine ἀκριβέστερον more earnestly τά the things περί about αὐτοῦ· him; ἡμεῖς we δέ then, πρό before τοῦ - ἐγγίσαι drawing near αὐτόν his, ἕτοιμοι ready ἐσμέν are τοῦ - ἀνελεῖν to kill αὐτόν. him. Ἀκούσας Having heard δέ however ὁ the υἱός son τῆς of the ἀδελφῆς sister Παύλου of Paul τήν of the ἐνέδραν, ambush, παραγενόμενος having come near καί and εἰσελθών having entered εἰς into τήν the παρεμβολήν barracks, ἀπήγγειλεν he reported [it] τῷ - Παύλῳ. to Paul. προσκαλεσάμενος Having called to [him] δέ then ὁ - Παῦλος Paul ἕνα one τῶν of the ἑκατονταρχῶν centurions, ἔφη· he was saying, Τόν The νεανίαν young man τοῦτον this ἄπαγε take πρός to τόν the χιλίαρχον, commander; ἔχει he has γάρ for ἀπαγγεῖλαι to report τὶ something αὐτῷ. to him. ὁ The [one] μέν indeed οὖν therefore παραλαβών having taken αὐτόν him ἤγαγεν brought [him] πρός to τόν the χιλίαρχον commander, καί and φησίν· he says, ὁ The δέσμιος prisoner Παῦλος Paul, προσκαλεσάμενος having called to με me, ἠρώτησεν asked [me] τοῦτον this τόν - νεανίσκον young man ἀγαγεῖν to lead πρός to σέ you, ἔχοντα having τὶ something λαλῆσαι to say σοι. to you. Ἐπιλαβόμενος Having taken hold δέ then τῆς the χειρός hand αὐτοῦ of him ὁ the χιλίαρχος commander, καί and ἀναχωρήσας having withdrawn κατ ̓ in ἰδίαν private, ἐπυνθάνετο, he began to inquire, Τί What ἐστίν is it ὅ that ἔχεις you have ἀπαγγεῖλαι to report μοι; to me? Τόν The ἄνδρα man τοῦτον this, συλλημφθέντα having been seized ὑπό by τῶν the Ἰουδαίων Jews, καί and μέλλοντα being about ἀναιρεῖσθαι to be killed ὑπ ̓ by αὐτῶν them, ἐπιστάς having come up σύν with τῷ the στρατεύματι troop, ἐξειλάμην I rescued [him], μαθών having learned ὅτι that Ῥωμαῖος a Roman ἐστίν. he is. βουλόμενος Resolving τέ then ἐπιγνῶναι to know τήν the αἰτίαν charge δι ̓ on account of ἥν which ἐνεκάλουν they were accusing αὐτῷ, him, κατήγαγον I brought [him] down εἰς to τό the συνέδριον council αὐτῶν of them, ὅν whom εὗρον I found ἐγκαλούμενον being accused περί concerning ζητημάτων questions τοῦ of the νόμου law αὐτῶν, of them, μηδέν no δέ however ἄξιον worthy θανάτου of death ἤ or δεσμῶν of chains ἔχοντα having ἔγκλημα. accusation. Μηνυθείσης It having been disclosed δέ then μοι to me ἐπιβουλῆς of a plot that εἰς against τόν the ἄνδρα man ἔσεσθαι would be, ἐξαυτῆς at once ἔπεμψα I sent [him] πρός to σέ you, παραγγείλας having instructed καί also τοῖς the κατηγόροις accusers λέγειν to speak τά these things πρός against αὐτόν him ἐπί before σοῦ. you. οἱ - μέν Indeed οὖν therefore στρατιῶται the soldiers, κατά according to τό that διατεταγμένον having been ordered αὐτοῖς them, ἀναλαβόντες having taken τόν - Παῦλον Paul, ἤγαγον brought [him] διά by νυκτός night εἰς to τήν - Ἀντιπατρίδα, Antipatris. τῇ On the δέ now ἐπαύριον next day, ἐάσαντες having allowed τούς the ἱππεῖς horsemen ἀπέρχεσθαι to go σύν with αὐτῷ him, ὑπέστρεψαν they returned εἰς to τήν the παρεμβολήν· barracks, οἵτινες who εἰσελθόντες having entered εἰς into τήν - Καισάρειαν Caesarea καί and ἀναδόντες having delivered τήν the ἐπιστολήν letter τῷ to the ἡγεμόνι governor, παρέστησαν presented καί also τόν - Παῦλον Paul αὐτῷ. to him. Ἀναγνούς Having read [it] δέ then, καί and ἐπερωτήσας having asked ἐκ from ποίας what ἐπαρχείας province ἐστίν, he is, καί and πυθόμενος having learned ὅτι that ἀπό from Κιλικίας, Cilicia [he is], Διακούσομαι I will hear fully σου, you, ἔφη, he was saying, Ὅταν when καί also οἱ the κατήγοροι accusers σου of you παραγένωνται· may have arrived, κελεύσας having commanded ἐν in τῷ the πραιτωρίῳ Praetorium τοῦ - Ἡρῴδου of Herod φυλάσσεσθαι to be guarded αὐτόν. him.
Μετά After δέ then πέντε five ἡμέρας days, κατέβη came down ὁ the ἀρχιερεύς high priest Ἁνανίας Ananias, μετά with πρεσβυτέρων elders τινῶν some καί and ῥήτορος an orator Τερτύλλου Tertullus τινός, certain, οἵτινες who ἐνεφάνισαν made a representation τῷ to the ἡγεμόνι governor κατά against τοῦ - Παύλου. Paul. Κληθέντος Having been called δέ then αὐτοῦ of him, ἤρξατο began κατηγορεῖν to accuse ὁ - Τέρτυλλος Tertullus, λέγων· saying, Πολλῆς Great εἰρήνης peace τυγχάνοντες we are attaining διά through σοῦ you, καί and διορθωμάτων excellent measures γινομένων are being done τῷ to the ἔθνει nation τούτῳ this διά through τῆς - σῆς your προνοίας, foresight, πάντῃ in every way τέ both καί and πανταχοῦ everywhere, ἀποδεχόμεθα, we gladly accept [it], κράτιστε most excellent Φῆλιξ, Felix, μετά with πάσης all εὐχαριστίας. thankfulness. ἵνα In order that δέ however μή not ἐπί to πλεῖον any longer σε you ἐνκόπτω, I should be a hindrance, παρακαλῶ I implore ἀκοῦσαι to hear σε you ἡμῶν us συντόμως briefly, τῇ [in] σῇ your ἐπιεικείᾳ. kindness. Εὑρόντες Having found γάρ for τόν the ἄνδρα man τοῦτον this λοιμόν a pest, καί and κινοῦντα stirring στάσεις insurrection πᾶσιν among all τοῖς the Ἰουδαίοις Jews τοῖς - κατά in τήν the οἰκουμένην world, πρωτοστάτην a leader τέ then τῆς of the τῶν of the Ναζωραίων Nazarenes αἱρέσεως, sect, ὅς who καί even τό the ἱερόν temple ἐπείρασεν attempted βεβηλῶσαι to profane, ὅν whom καί also ἐκρατήσαμεν, we seized. παρ ̓ From οὗ him δυνήσῃ you will be able αὐτός yourself, ἀνακρίνας having examined [him] περί concerning πάντων all τούτων these things, ἐπιγνῶναι to know ὧν of which ἡμεῖς we κατηγοροῦμεν accuse αὐτοῦ. him. Συνεπέθεντο Agreed δέ then καί also οἱ the Ἰουδαῖοι Jews, φάσκοντες declaring ταῦτα these things οὕτως so ἔχειν. to be.
Ἀπεκρίθη Answered τέ then ὁ - Παῦλος Paul, νεύσαντος having made a sign αὐτῷ to him τοῦ the ἡγεμόνος governor λέγειν· to speak: ἐκ For πολλῶν many ἐτῶν years, ὄντα as being σε you κριτήν judge τῷ to ἔθνει nation, τούτῳ this ἐπιστάμενος knowing, εὐθύμως cheerfully τά to the things περί concerning ἐμαυτοῦ myself ἀπολογοῦμαι, I make a defense. δυναμένου Being able σου you ἐπιγνῶναι to know ὅτι that οὐ not πλείους more than εἰσίν there are μοι to me ἡμέραι days δώδεκα twelve, ἀφ ̓ from ἧς which ἀνέβην I went up προσκυνήσων to worship εἰς in Ἰερουσαλήμ. Jerusalem. καί And οὔτε neither ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple εὗρον did they find με me πρός with τινά anyone διαλεγόμενον reasoning, ἤ or ἐπίστασιν a tumultuous gathering ποιοῦντα making ὄχλου of a crowd, οὔτε nor ἐν in ταῖς the συναγωγαῖς synagogues, οὔτε nor κατά in τήν the πόλιν, city. οὐδέ Nor παραστῆσαι to prove δύνανται are they able σοι to you, περί concerning ὧν [the things] of which νυνί now κατηγοροῦσιν they accuse μου. me. Ὁμολογῶ I confess δέ however τοῦτο this σοι to you, ὅτι that κατά according to τήν the Ὁδόν Way ἥν which λέγουσιν they call αἵρεσιν, a sect, οὕτως so λατρεύω I serve τῷ the πατρῴῳ of our fathers Θεῷ God, πιστεύων believing πᾶσι all things τοῖς - κατά throughout τόν the νόμον law, καί and τοῖς that ἐν in τοῖς the προφήταις Prophets γεγραμμένοις, have been written, ἐλπίδα a hope ἔχων having εἰς in τόν - Θεόν God ἥν which καί also αὐτοί they οὗτοι themselves προσδέχονται, await, ἀνάστασιν [that] a resurrection μέλλειν there is about ἔσεσθαι to be δικαίων of [the] just τέ both καί and ἀδίκων. of [the] unjust. ἐν In τούτῳ this καί also αὐτός I myself ἀσκῶ strive, ἀπρόσκοπον without offense συνείδησιν a conscience ἔχειν to have πρός toward τόν - Θεόν God καί and τούς - ἀνθρώπους men, διά through παντός. everything. Δι ̓ After ἐτῶν years δέ now πλειόνων many, ἐλεημοσύνας alms ποιήσων to bring εἰς to τό the ἔθνος nation μου of me, παρεγενόμην I arrived, καί and προσφοράς, offerings, ἐν during αἷς which εὗρον they found με me ἡγνισμένον purified ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple, οὐ not μετά with ὄχλου a crowd, οὐδέ nor μετά in θορύβου, tumult. τινές Some δέ however [are] ἀπό from τῆς - Ἀσίας Asia, Ἰουδαῖοι, Jews οὕς who ἔδει ought ἐπί before σοῦ you παρεῖναι to appear καί and κατηγορεῖν to make accusation, εἴ if τὶ anything ἔχοιεν they may have πρός against ἐμέ. me. ἤ Otherwise αὐτοί themselves οὗτοι it εἰπάτωσαν let them say τί any εὗρον they found ἀδίκημα unrighteousness, στάντος having stood μου in me ἐπί before τοῦ the συνεδρίου, Council, ἤ [other] than περί concerning μιᾶς one ταύτης this φωνῆς voice ἧς which ἐκέκραξα I cried out ἐν among αὐτοῖς them ἑστώς standing ὅτι -: Περί Concerning ἀναστάσεως [the] resurrection νεκρῶν of [the] dead ἐγώ I κρίνομαι am judged σήμερον this day ἐφ ̓ by ὑμῶν. you.
Ἀνεβάλετο Put off δέ however αὐτούς them ὁ - Φῆλιξ, Felix, ἀκριβέστερον more precisely εἰδώς having knowledge of τά the things περί concerning τῆς the Ὁδοῦ Way, εἴπας· having said, Ὅταν When Λυσίας Lysias ὁ the χιλίαρχος commander καταβῇ, might have come down, διαγνώσομαι I will examine τά the things καθ ̓ as to ὑμᾶς· you, διαταξάμενος having commanded τῷ the ἑκατοντάρχῃ centurion τηρεῖσθαι to keep αὐτόν him, ἔχειν to [let him] have τέ then ἄνεσιν ease, καί and μηδένα not κωλύειν to forbid τῶν the ἰδίων own αὐτοῦ of him ὑπηρετεῖν to minister αὐτῷ. to him.

Διετίας Two years δέ however πληρωθείσης having been completed, ἔλαβεν received [as] διάδοχον successor ὁ - Φῆλιξ Felix, Πόρκιον Porcius Φῆστον, Festus; θέλων wishing τέ then χάριτα favor καταθέσθαι to acquire for himself τοῖς with the Ἰουδαίοις Jews, ὁ - Φῆλιξ Felix κατέλιπε left τόν - Παῦλον Paul δεδεμένον. imprisoned.
Φῆστος Festus οὖν therefore ἐπιβάς having arrived in τῇ the ἐπαρχείᾳ province, μετά after τρεῖς three ἡμέρας days ἀνέβη he went up εἰς to Ἱεροσόλυμα Jerusalem ἀπό from Καισαρείας, Caesarea. ἐνεφάνισαν Made a presentation before τέ then αὐτῷ him οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and οἱ the πρῶτοι chiefs τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews, κατά against τοῦ - Παύλου Paul, καί and παρεκάλουν they were begging αὐτόν him, αἰτούμενοι asking χάριν a favor κατ ̓ against αὐτοῦ him, ὅπως that μεταπέμψηται he would summon αὐτόν him εἰς to Ἰερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem, ἐνέδραν an ambush ποιοῦντες forming ἀνελεῖν to kill αὐτόν him κατά on τήν the ὁδόν. way. ὁ - μέν Indeed οὖν therefore Φῆστος Festus ἀπεκρίθη answered that τηρεῖσθαι is to be kept τόν - Παῦλον Paul εἰς in Καισάρειαν, Caesarea; ἑαυτόν he himself δέ now μέλλειν is about ἐν in τάχει quickness ἐκπορεύεσθαι· to set out. οἱ Those οὖν therefore ἐν among ὑμῖν, you, φησίν, he says, Δυνατοί [those] in power, συνκαταβάντες having gone down too, εἴ if τί anything ἐστίν there is ἐν in τῷ the ἀνδρί man ἄτοπον wrong, κατηγορείτωσαν let them accuse αὐτοῦ. him.
Διατρίψας Having spent δέ then ἐν with αὐτοῖς them ἡμέρας days οὐ not πλείους more than ὀκτώ eight ἤ or δέκα, ten, καταβάς having gone down εἰς to Καισάρειαν, Caesarea, τῇ on the ἐπαύριον next day καθίσας having sat ἐπί on τοῦ the βήματος judgment seat, ἐκέλευσεν he commanded τόν - Παῦλον Paul ἀχθῆναι. to be brought.
