ὁ That δέ however ἐπί on τήν the καλήν good γῆν soil σπαρείς, having been sown, οὗτος this ἐστίν is ὁ the [one] τόν the λόγον word ἀκούων hearing καί and συνιείς, understanding, ὅς who δή indeed καρποφορεῖ brings forth fruit καί and ποιεῖ produces — ὅ some μέν indeed ἑκατόν, a hundredfold, ὅ some δέ now ἑξήκοντα, sixty, ὅ some δέ now τριάκοντα. thirty.
Ἄλλην Another παραβολήν parable παρέθηκεν put He before αὐτοῖς them, λέγων· saying, Ὡμοιώθη Has become like ἡ the βασιλεία kingdom τῶν of the οὐρανῶν heavens, ἀνθρώπῳ a man σπείραντι having sown καλόν good σπέρμα seed ἐν in τῷ the ἀγρῷ field αὐτοῦ. of him. ἐν In δέ now τῷ the [time] καθεύδειν are sleeping τούς the ἀνθρώπους men, ἦλθεν came αὐτοῦ his ὁ - ἐχθρός enemy καί and ἐπέσπειρεν sowed ζιζάνια weeds ἀνά in [the] μέσον midst τοῦ of the σίτου wheat, καί and ἀπῆλθεν. went away. ὅτε When δέ now ἐβλάστησεν sprouted ὁ the χόρτος plants καί and καρπόν fruit ἐποίησεν, produced, τότε then ἐφάνη appeared καί also τά the ζιζάνια. weeds. Προσελθόντες Having come to [him] δέ now, οἱ the δοῦλοι servants τοῦ the οἰκοδεσπότου master of the house εἶπον said αὐτῷ· to him, Κύριε, Sir, οὐχί not καλόν good σπέρμα seed ἔσπειρας did you sow ἐν in τῷ - σῷ your ἀγρῷ; field? πόθεν How οὖν then ἔχει has it ζιζάνια; the weeds? ὁ - δέ And ἔφη he said αὐτοῖς· to them, Ἐχθρός An enemy, ἄνθρωπος a man τοῦτο this ἐποίησεν. did. οἱ - δέ And δοῦλοι the servants λέγουσιν said, αὐτῷ· to him Θέλεις Do you desire οὖν then ἀπελθόντες [that] having gone forth, συλλέξωμεν we should gather αὐτά; them? ὁ - δέ And φησίν· he said, Οὔ, No; μήποτε not lest συλλέγοντες gathering τά the ζιζάνια weeds, ἐκριζώσητε you would uproot ἅμα with αὐτοῖς them τόν the σῖτον. wheat. ἄφετε Allow συναυξάνεσθαι to grow together ἀμφότερα both ἕως until τοῦ the θερισμοῦ, harvest; καί and ἐν in καιρῷ the time τοῦ of the θερισμοῦ harvest ἐρῶ I will say τοῖς to the θερισταῖς· harvesters, Συλλέξατε Gather πρῶτον first τά the ζιζάνια weeds, καί and δήσατε bind αὐτά them εἰς into δέσμας bundles πρός in order τό - κατακαῦσαι to burn αὐτά, them; τόν - δέ and σῖτον the wheat, συναγάγετε gather together εἰς into τήν the ἀποθήκην barn μου. of me.”’
Ἄλλην Another παραβολήν parable παρέθηκεν put He before αὐτοῖς them, λέγων· saying, Ὁμοία Like ἐστίν is ἡ the βασιλεία kingdom τῶν of the οὐρανῶν heavens κόκκῳ to a grain σινάπεως, of mustard, ὅν which λαβών having taken, ἄνθρωπος a man ἔσπειρεν sowed ἐν in τῷ the ἀγρῷ field αὐτοῦ· of him; ὅ which μικρότερον smallest μέν indeed ἐστίν is πάντων of all τῶν the σπερμάτων, seeds; ὅταν when δέ however αὐξηθῇ it is grown, μεῖζον greater τῶν than the λαχάνων garden plants ἐστίν it is, καί and γίνεται becomes δένδρον, a tree, ὥστε so that ἐλθεῖν come τά the πετεινά birds τοῦ of the οὐρανοῦ air καί and κατασκηνοῦν perch ἐν in τοῖς the κλάδοις branches αὐτοῦ. of it.
Ἄλλην Another παραβολήν parable ἐλάλησεν spoke He αὐτοῖς· to them: Ὁμοία Like ἐστίν is ἡ the βασιλεία kingdom τῶν of the οὐρανῶν heavens ζύμῃ, to leaven, ἥν which λαβοῦσα having taken, γυνή a woman ἐνέκρυψεν hid εἰς in ἀλεύρου of flour σάτα measures τρία three, ἕως until οὗ of it ἐζυμώθη was leavened ὅλον. all. Ταῦτα These things πάντα all ἐλάλησεν spoke ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐν in παραβολαῖς parables τοῖς to the ὄχλοις crowds, καί and χωρίς without παραβολῆς a parable οὐδέν not ἐλάλει He was speaking αὐτοῖς, to them, ὅπως so that πληρωθῇ might be fulfilled τό that ῥηθέν having been spoken διά by τοῦ the προφήτου prophet, λέγοντος· saying, Ἀνοίξω I will open ἐν in παραβολαῖς parables τό the στόμα mouth μου, of Me; ἐρεύξομαι I will utter κεκρυμμένα things hidden ἀπό from καταβολῆς [the] foundation κόσμου. [of the] world.”
Τότε Then ἀφείς having dismissed τούς the ὄχλους crowds, ἦλθεν He went εἰς into τήν the οἰκίαν. house. Καί And προσῆλθον came αὐτῷ to Him οἱ the μαθηταί disciples αὐτοῦ of Him, λέγοντες· saying, Διασάφησον Explain ἡμῖν to us τήν the παραβολήν parable τῶν of the ζιζανίων weeds τοῦ of the ἀγροῦ. field. ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering εἶπεν· He said, ὁ The [One] σπείρων sowing τό the καλόν good σπέρμα seed ἐστίν is ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου, of Man; ὁ - δέ and ἀγρός the field ἐστίν is ὁ the κόσμος, world; τό - δέ and καλόν the good σπέρμα seed, οὗτοι these εἰσίν are οἱ the υἱοί sons τῆς of the βασιλείας· kingdom; τά - δέ and ζιζάνια the weeds εἰσίν are οἱ the υἱοί sons τοῦ of the πονηροῦ, evil [one]; ὁ - δέ and ἐχθρός the enemy ὁ - σπείρας having sown αὐτά them ἐστίν is ὁ the διάβολος, devil; ὁ - δέ and θερισμός the harvest συντέλεια [the] consummation αἰῶνος of the age ἐστίν, is, οἱ - δέ and θερισταί the harvesters ἄγγελοι angels εἰσίν. are. Ὥσπερ As οὖν therefore συλλέγεται is gathered τά the ζιζάνια weeds, καί and πυρί in fire κατακαίεται, is consumed, οὕτως thus ἔσται it will be ἐν in τῇ the συντελείᾳ consummation τοῦ of the αἰῶνος· age. ἀποστελεῖ Will send forth ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man τούς the ἀγγέλους angels αὐτοῦ, of Him, καί and συλλέξουσιν they will gather ἐκ out of τῆς the βασιλείας kingdom αὐτοῦ of Him πάντα all τά the σκάνδαλα causes of sin καί and τούς those ποιοῦντας practicing τήν - ἀνομίαν lawlessness, καί and βαλοῦσιν they will cast αὐτούς them εἰς into τήν the κάμινον furnace τοῦ of the πυρός· fire; ἐκεῖ there ἔσται will be ὁ the κλαυθμός weeping καί and ὁ the βρυγμός gnashing τῶν of ὀδόντων. teeth. τότε Then οἱ the δίκαιοι righteous ἐκλάμψουσιν will shine forth ὡς as ὁ the ἥλιος sun ἐν in τῇ the βασιλείᾳ kingdom τοῦ of the Πατρός Father αὐτῶν. of them. ὁ The [one] ἔχων having ὦτα ears, ἀκουέτω. let him hear!
Ὁμοία Like ἐστίν is ἡ the βασιλεία kingdom τῶν of the οὐρανῶν heavens θησαυρῷ treasure κεκρυμμένῳ having been hidden ἐν in τῷ the ἀγρῷ, field, ὅν which, εὑρών having found, ἄνθρωπος a man ἔκρυψεν, hid, καί and ἀπό for τῆς the χαρᾶς joy αὐτοῦ of it ὑπάγει goes καί and πωλεῖ he sells πάντα all ὅσα that ἔχει he has καί and ἀγοράζει buys τόν the ἀγρόν field ἐκεῖνον. that.
Πάλιν Again ὁμοία like ἐστίν is ἡ the βασιλεία kingdom τῶν of the οὐρανῶν heavens ἀνθρώπῳ a man, ἐμπόρῳ a merchant ζητοῦντι seeking καλούς fine μαργαρίτας· pearls; εὑρών having found δέ now ἕνα one πολύτιμον very precious μαργαρίτην pearl, ἀπελθών having gone away, πέπρακεν he has sold πάντα all things ὅσα as many as εἶχεν he had, καί and ἠγόρασεν bought αὐτόν. it.
Πάλιν Again ὁμοία like ἐστίν is ἡ the βασιλεία kingdom τῶν of the οὐρανῶν heavens σαγήνῃ a dragnet βληθείσῃ having been cast εἰς into τήν the θάλασσαν sea, καί and ἐκ of παντός every γένους kind συναγαγούσῃ· having gathered together, ἥν which, ὅτε when ἐπληρώθη it was filled, ἀναβιβάσαντες having drawn up ἐπί on τόν the αἰγιαλόν shore καί and καθίσαντες having sat down, συνέλεξαν they collected τά the καλά good εἰς into ἄγγη, vessels, τά the δέ and σαπρά bad ἔξω out ἔβαλον. they cast. Οὕτως Thus ἔσται will it be ἐν in τῇ the συντελείᾳ consummation τοῦ of the αἰῶνος· age; ἐξελεύσονται will go out οἱ the ἄγγελοι angels, καί and ἀφοριοῦσιν will separate τούς the πονηρούς evil ἐκ from μέσου [the] midst τῶν of the δικαίων righteous, καί and βαλοῦσιν will cast αὐτούς them εἰς into τήν the κάμινον furnace τοῦ of the πυρός· fire. ἐκεῖ There ἔσται will be ὁ the κλαυθμός weeping καί and ὁ the βρυγμός gnashing τῶν of the ὀδόντων. teeth.
Συνήκατε Have you understood ταῦτα these things πάντα; all? Λέγουσιν They say αὐτῷ· to Him, Ναί. Yes. ὁ - δέ And εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Διά Because of τοῦτο this, πᾶς every γραμματεύς scribe μαθητευθείς having been discipled τῇ into the βασιλείᾳ kingdom τῶν of the οὐρανῶν heavens ὅμοιος like ἐστίν is ἀνθρώπῳ a man, οἰκοδεσπότῃ, a master of a house, ὅστις who ἐκβάλλει puts forth ἐκ out of τοῦ the θησαυροῦ treasure αὐτοῦ of him καινά [things] new καί and παλαιά. old.
Καί And ἐγένετο it came to pass, ὅτε when ἐτέλεσεν had finished ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus τάς the παραβολάς parables ταύτας, these, μετῆρεν He withdrew ἐκεῖθεν. from there. καί And ἐλθών having come εἰς into τήν the πατρίδα region αὐτοῦ His [own], ἐδίδασκεν He was teaching αὐτούς them ἐν in τῇ the συναγωγῇ synagogue αὐτῶν, of them, ὥστε so that ἐκπλήσσεσθαι are astonished αὐτούς they καί and λέγειν· are saying, Πόθεν From where τούτῳ to this [man] ἡ the σοφία wisdom αὕτη this καί and αἱ the δυνάμεις; miraculous powers? οὐ Not οὗτος this ἐστίν is ὁ the τοῦ of the τέκτονος carpenter υἱός; Son? οὐ [Is] not ἡ the μήτηρ mother αὐτοῦ of Him λέγεται called Μαριάμ Mary? καί And οἱ the ἀδελφοί brothers αὐτοῦ of Him Ἰάκωβος James καί and Ἰωσήφ Joseph καί and Σίμων Simon καί and Ἰούδας; Judas? καί And αἱ the ἀδελφαί sisters αὐτοῦ of Him οὐχί not πᾶσαι all πρός with ἡμᾶς us εἰσίν; are? πόθεν From where οὖν then τούτῳ to this [man] ταῦτα these things πάντα; all? καί And ἐσκανδαλίζοντο they were offended ἐν at αὐτῷ. Him. ὁ - δέ But Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν said αὐτοῖς· to them, οὐκ Not ἔστιν is προφήτης a prophet ἄτιμος without Honor, εἰ if μή not ἐν in τῇ the πατρίδι hometown, καί and ἐν in τῇ the οἰκίᾳ household αὐτοῦ. of him. καί And οὐ not ἐποίησεν He did ἐκεῖ there δυνάμεις miracles πολλάς many, διά because of τήν the ἀπιστίαν unbelief αὐτῶν. of them.
ἐν At ἐκείνῳ that τῷ - καιρῷ time ἤκουσεν heard Ἡρῴδης Herod ὁ the τετραάρχης tetrarch τήν the ἀκοήν news Ἰησοῦ, of Jesus, καί and εἶπεν he said τοῖς to παισίν [the] servants αὐτοῦ· of him, Οὗτος This ἐστίν is Ἰωάννης John ὁ the Βαπτιστής· Baptist; αὐτός he ἠγέρθη is risen ἀπό from τῶν the νεκρῶν dead, καί and διά because of τοῦτο this, αἱ the δυνάμεις miraculous powers ἐνεργοῦσιν are working ἐν in αὐτῷ. him.
ὁ - γάρ For Ἡρῴδης Herod κρατήσας having seized τόν - Ἰωάννην John, ἔδησεν he bound αὐτόν him καί and ἐν in φυλακῇ prison ἀπέθετο put [him], διά on account of Ἡρῳδιάδα Herodias, τήν the γυναῖκα wife Φιλίππου of Philip, τοῦ the ἀδελφοῦ brother αὐτοῦ· of him. ἔλεγεν Had been saying γάρ for ὁ - Ἰωάννης John αὐτῷ· to him, οὐκ Not ἔξεστιν it is lawful σοι for you ἔχειν to have αὐτήν. her. καί Although θέλων wishing αὐτόν him ἀποκτεῖναι to kill, ἐφοβήθη he feared τόν the ὄχλον, multitude, ὅτι because ὡς as προφήτην a prophet αὐτόν him εἶχον. they were holding.
Γενεσίοις [The] birthday δέ now γενομένοις having been celebrated τοῦ - Ἡρῴδου of Herod, ὠρχήσατο danced ἡ the θυγάτηρ daughter τῆς - Ἡρῳδιάδος of Herodias ἐν in τῷ the μέσῳ midst, καί and ἤρεσεν pleased τῷ - Ἡρῴδῃ, Herod, ὅθεν whereupon μεθ ̓ with ὅρκου oath ὡμολόγησεν he promised αὐτῇ to her δοῦναι to give ὅ whatever ἐάν if αἰτήσηται. she should ask. ἡ - δέ And προβιβασθεῖσα having been urged on ὑπό by τῆς the μητρός mother αὐτῆς· of her, Δός Give μοι, me, φησίν, she says, Ὧδε here ἐπί upon πίνακι a platter τήν the κεφαλήν head Ἰωάννου of John τοῦ the Βαπτιστοῦ. Baptist. Καί And λυπηθείς having been grieved ὁ the βασιλεύς king, διά on account of τούς the ὅρκους oaths καί and τούς those συνανακειμένους reclining with [him], ἐκέλευσεν he commanded [it] δοθῆναι, to be given. καί And πέμψας he having sent, ἀπεκεφάλισεν beheaded τόν - Ἰωάννην John ἐν in τῇ the φυλακῇ. prison. Καί And ἠνέχθη was brought ἡ the κεφαλή head αὐτοῦ of him ἐπί on πίνακι a platter, καί and ἐδόθη was given τῷ to the κορασίῳ, girl, καί and ἤνεγκεν she brought [it] τῇ to μητρί [the] mother αὐτῆς. of her. καί And προσελθόντες having come, οἱ the μαθηταί disciples αὐτοῦ of him ἦραν took τό the πτῶμα body, καί and ἔθαψαν buried αὐτόν it; καί and ἐλθόντες having come, ἀπήγγειλαν they told τῷ - Ἰησοῦ. Jesus.
Ἀκούσας Having heard δέ now, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἀνεχώρησεν withdrew ἐκεῖθεν from there ἐν by πλοίῳ boat εἰς to ἔρημον a secluded τόπον place κατ ̓ apart ἰδίαν· Himself. καί And ἀκούσαντες having heard [of it], οἱ the ὄχλοι crowds ἠκολούθησαν followed αὐτῷ Him πεζῇ on foot ἀπό from τῶν the πόλεων. towns. Καί And ἐξελθών having gone out, εἶδεν He saw πολύν great ὄχλον a crowd, καί and ἐσπλαγχνίσθη was moved with compassion ἐπ ̓ toward αὐτοῖς them, καί and ἐθεράπευσεν healed τούς the ἀρρώστους sick αὐτῶν. of them.
Ὀψίας Evening δέ now γενομένης having come, προσῆλθον came αὐτῷ to Him οἱ the μαθηταί disciples, λέγοντες· saying, Ἔρημος Desolate ἐστίν is ὁ this τόπος place, καί and ἡ the ὥρα time ἤδη already παρῆλθεν· is gone by. ἀπόλυσον Dismiss τούς the ὄχλους, crowds, ἵνα that ἀπελθόντες having gone εἰς into τάς the κώμας villages, ἀγοράσωσιν they might buy ἑαυτοῖς for themselves βρώματα. food. ὁ - δέ And Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν said αὐτοῖς· to them, οὐ No χρείαν need ἔχουσιν they have ἀπελθεῖν, to go away. δότε Give αὐτοῖς to them ὑμεῖς you φαγεῖν. to eat. οἱ - δέ And λέγουσιν they say αὐτῷ· to Him, οὐκ Not ἔχομεν we have ὧδε here, εἰ if μή not πέντε five ἄρτους loaves καί and δύο two ἰχθύας. fish. ὁ - δέ And εἶπεν· He said, Φέρετε Bring μοι to Me ὧδε here αὐτούς. them. καί And κελεύσας having commanded τούς the ὄχλους crowds ἀνακλιθῆναι to sit down ἐπί on τοῦ the χόρτου, grass, λαβών having taken τούς the πέντε five ἄρτους loaves καί and τούς the δύο two ἰχθύας, fish, ἀναβλέψας having looked up εἰς to τόν - οὐρανόν heaven, εὐλόγησεν He spoke a blessing; καί and κλάσας having broken, ἔδωκεν He gave τοῖς to the μαθηταῖς disciples τούς the ἄρτους, loaves, οἱ - δέ and μαθηταί the disciples τοῖς to the ὄχλοις. crowds. Καί And ἔφαγον ate πάντες all καί and ἐχορτάσθησαν, were satisfied; καί and ἦραν they took up τό that περισσεῦον being over and above τῶν of the κλασμάτων fragments, δώδεκα twelve κοφίνους hand-baskets πλήρεις. full. οἱ Those δέ then ἐσθίοντες eating ἦσαν were ἄνδρες men ὡσεί about πεντακισχίλιοι five thousand, χωρίς besides γυναικῶν women καί and παιδίων. children.
