Καί And ταῦτα these things λέγοντες saying, μόλις hardly κατέπαυσαν they stopped τούς the ὄχλους crowds τοῦ - μή not θύειν sacrificing αὐτοῖς. to them. Ἐπῆλθαν Came δέ however ἀπό from Ἀντιοχείας Antioch καί and Ἰκονίου Iconium Ἰουδαῖοι Jews, καί and πείσαντες having persuaded τούς the ὄχλους crowds, καί and λιθάσαντες having stoned τόν - Παῦλον Paul, ἔσυρον they dragged [him] ἔξω outside τῆς the πόλεως city, νομίζοντες supposing αὐτόν him τεθνηκέναι. to have died. κυκλωσάντων Having surrounded δέ however τῶν the μαθητῶν disciples αὐτόν him, ἀναστάς having risen up, εἰσῆλθεν he entered εἰς into τήν the πόλιν. city. Εὐαγγελισάμενοι Having proclaimed the gospel to τέ then τήν the πόλιν city ἐκείνην that, καί and μαθητεύσαντες having discipled ἱκανούς many, ὑπέστρεψαν they returned εἰς to τήν - Λύστραν Lystra, καί and εἰς to Ἰκόνιον Iconium, καί and εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν Antioch, ἐπιστηρίζοντες strengthening τάς the ψυχάς souls τῶν of the μαθητῶν, disciples, παρακαλοῦντες exhorting [them] ἐμμένειν to continue τῇ in the πίστει faith, καί and ὅτι that Διά through πολλῶν many θλίψεων tribulations δεῖ it behooves ἡμᾶς us εἰσελθεῖν to enter εἰς into τήν the βασιλείαν kingdom τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. Χειροτονήσαντες Having chosen δέ now αὐτοῖς for them κατ ̓ in every ἐκκλησίαν church πρεσβυτέρους, elders, προσευξάμενοι having prayed, μετά with νηστειῶν fasting παρέθεντο they committed αὐτούς them τῷ to the Κυρίῳ Lord, εἰς in ὅν whom πεπιστεύκεισαν. they had believed. Καί And διελθόντες having passed through τήν - Πισιδίαν Pisidia, ἦλθον they came εἰς to τήν - Παμφυλίαν Pamphylia, καί and λαλήσαντες having spoken ἐν in Πέργῃ Perga τόν the λόγον word, κατέβησαν they went down εἰς to Ἀττάλειαν Attalia. Κἀκεῖθεν And from there ἀπέπλευσαν they sailed εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν, Antioch, ὅθεν from where ἦσαν they had παραδεδομένοι been committed τῇ to the χάριτι grace τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God εἰς for τό the ἔργον work ὅ that ἐπλήρωσαν. they had fulfilled. Παραγενόμενοι Having arrived δέ now καί and συναγαγόντες having gathered together τήν the ἐκκλησίαν church, ἀνήγγελλον they began declaring ὅσα all that ἐποίησεν had done ὁ - Θεός God μετ ̓ with αὐτῶν them, καί and ὅτι that ἤνοιξεν He had opened τοῖς to the ἔθνεσιν Gentiles θύραν a door πίστεως. of faith. διέτριβον They remained δέ then χρόνον time οὐ no ὀλίγον little σύν with τοῖς the μαθηταῖς. disciples.
Καί And τινές certain ones κατελθόντες having come down ἀπό from τῆς - Ἰουδαίας Judea ἐδίδασκον were teaching τούς the ἀδελφούς brothers ὅτι, -, Ἐάν If μή not περιτμηθῆτε you are circumcised τῷ according to the ἔθει custom τῷ - Μωϋσέως, of Moses, οὐ not δύνασθε you are able σωθῆναι. to be saved. γενομένης Having been brought about δέ then στάσεως commotion καί and ζητήσεως discussion οὐ no ὀλίγης small τῷ - Παύλῳ by Paul καί and τῷ - Βαρνάβᾳ Barnabas πρός with αὐτούς, them, ἔταξαν they appointed ἀναβαίνειν to go up Παῦλον Paul καί and Βαρνάβαν Barnabas καί and τινάς certain ἄλλους others ἐκ out from αὐτῶν them, πρός to τούς the ἀποστόλους apostles καί and πρεσβυτέρους elders, εἰς to Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem, περί about τοῦ the ζητήματος question τούτου. this. οἱ They μέν indeed οὖν therefore προπεμφθέντες having been sent forward ὑπό by τῆς the ἐκκλησίας church διήρχοντο were passing through τήν - τέ both Φοινίκην Phoenicia καί and Σαμάρειαν Samaria, ἐκδιηγούμενοι relating in detail τήν the ἐπιστροφήν conversion τῶν of the ἐθνῶν Gentiles, καί and ἐποίουν they were bringing χαράν joy μεγάλην great πᾶσιν to all τοῖς the ἀδελφοῖς. brothers. παραγενόμενοι Having come δέ then εἰς to Ἱεροσόλυμα Jerusalem, παρεδέχθησαν they were welcomed ἀπό by τῆς the ἐκκλησίας church καί and τῶν the ἀποστόλων apostles καί and τῶν the πρεσβυτέρων, elders. ἀνήγγειλαν They declared τέ then ὅσα all that ὁ - Θεός God ἐποίησεν had done μετ ̓ with αὐτῶν. them. Ἐξανέστησαν Rose up δέ now τινές certain τῶν of those ἀπό of τῆς the αἱρέσεως sect τῶν of the Φαρισαίων Pharisees πεπιστευκότες who believed, λέγοντες saying ὅτι -, Δεῖ It is necessary περιτέμνειν to circumcise αὐτούς them, παραγγέλλειν to command [them] τέ then τηρεῖν to keep τόν the νόμον law Μωϋσέως. of Moses.
Συνήχθησαν Were gathered together τέ then οἱ the ἀπόστολοι apostles καί and οἱ the πρεσβύτεροι elders ἰδεῖν to see περί about τοῦ the λόγου matter τούτου. this. Πολλῆς Of much δέ now ζητήσεως discussion γενομένης having taken place, ἀναστάς having risen up, Πέτρος Peter εἶπεν said πρός to αὐτούς· them, Ἄνδρες Men, ἀδελφοί, brothers, ὑμεῖς you ἐπίστασθε know ὅτι that ἀφ ̓ from ἡμερῶν days ἀρχαίων early, ἐν among ὑμῖν you ἐξελέξατο chose ὁ - Θεός God διά by τοῦ the στόματος mouth μου of me ἀκοῦσαι to hear τά the ἔθνη Gentiles τόν the λόγον word τοῦ of the εὐαγγελίου gospel, καί and πιστεῦσαι. to believe. καί And ὁ the καρδιογνώστης heart-knowing Θεός God ἐμαρτύρησεν bore witness αὐτοῖς to them, δούς having given [them] τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit τό - Ἅγιον Holy, καθώς as καί also ἡμῖν to us, καί and οὐθέν not one διέκρινεν He made distinction μεταξύ between ἡμῶν us τέ also καί and αὐτῶν them, τῇ by the πίστει faith καθαρίσας having purified τάς the καρδίας hearts αὐτῶν. of them. Νῦν Now οὖν therefore, τί why πειράζετε are you testing τόν - Θεόν God, ἐπιθεῖναι to put ζυγόν a yoke ἐπί upon τόν the τράχηλον neck τῶν of the μαθητῶν disciples ὅν that οὔτε neither οἱ the πατέρες fathers ἡμῶν of us, οὔτε nor ἡμεῖς we, ἰσχύσαμεν have been able βαστάσαι; to bear? ἀλλά But διά by τῆς the χάριτος grace τοῦ of Κυρίου [the] Lord Ἰησοῦ Jesus, πιστεύομεν we believe σωθῆναι to be saved, καθ ̓ in ὅν [the] same τρόπον manner [as] κἀκεῖνοι. they also. Ἐσίγησεν Kept silent δέ now πᾶν all τό the πλῆθος multitude, καί and ἤκουον were listening to Βαρνάβα Barnabas καί and Παύλου Paul ἐξηγουμένων relating ὅσα what ἐποίησεν had done ὁ - Θεός God, σημεῖα signs καί and τέρατα wonders, ἐν among τοῖς the ἔθνεσιν Gentiles δι ̓ by αὐτῶν. them. Μετά After δέ now τό - σιγῆσαι were silent αὐτούς they, ἀπεκρίθη answered Ἰάκωβος James, λέγων· saying, Ἄνδρες Men, ἀδελφοί, brothers, ἀκούσατε hear μου. me. Συμεών Simeon ἐξηγήσατο has related καθώς how πρῶτον first ὁ - Θεός God ἐπεσκέψατο visited, λαβεῖν to take ἐκ out of ἐθνῶν [the] Gentiles λαόν a people τῷ for the ὀνόματι name αὐτοῦ. of Him. καί And τούτῳ with this συμφωνοῦσιν agree οἱ the λόγοι words τῶν of the προφητῶν prophets, καθώς as γέγραπται· it is written: Μετά After ταῦτα these things ἀναστρέψω I will return καί and ἀνοικοδομήσω will rebuild τήν the σκηνήν tabernacle Δαυίδ of David τήν which πεπτωκυῖαν has fallen, καί and τά the κατεσκαμμένα ruins αὐτῆς of it ἀνοικοδομήσω I will rebuild, καί and ἀνορθώσω I will set upright αὐτήν, it, ὅπως so that ἄν - ἐκζητήσωσιν may seek out οἱ the κατάλοιποι remnant τῶν - ἀνθρώπων of men τόν the Κύριον Lord, καί and πάντα all τά the ἔθνη Gentiles, ἐφ ̓ upon οὕς whom ἐπικέκληται has been called τό the ὄνομα name μου of Me ἐπ ̓ upon αὐτούς, them, λέγει says Κύριος [the] Lord, ποιῶν doing ταῦτα these things,

Διό Therefore ἐγώ I κρίνω judge μή not παρενοχλεῖν to trouble τοῖς those who, ἀπό from τῶν the ἐθνῶν Gentiles, ἐπιστρέφουσιν are turning ἐπί to τόν - Θεόν, God, ἀλλά but ἐπιστεῖλαι to write αὐτοῖς to them τοῦ - ἀπέχεσθαι to abstain from τῶν the ἀλισγημάτων pollutions τῶν of the εἰδώλων idols, καί and τῆς - πορνείας sexual immorality, καί and τοῦ that πνικτοῦ which is strangled, καί and τοῦ from αἵματος. blood. Μωϋσῆς Moses γάρ for ἐκ from γενεῶν generations ἀρχαίων of old, κατά in every πόλιν city τούς [ones] κηρύσσοντας proclaiming αὐτόν him ἔχει has, ἐν in ταῖς the συναγωγαῖς synagogues κατά on πᾶν every σάββατον Sabbath ἀναγινωσκόμενος. being read.
Τότε Then ἔδοξε it seemed good τοῖς to the ἀποστόλοις apostles καί and τοῖς to the πρεσβυτέροις elders, σύν with ὅλῃ all τῇ the ἐκκλησίᾳ church, ἐκλεξαμένους having chosen ἄνδρας men ἐκ out from αὐτῶν them, πέμψαι to send εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν Antioch σύν with τῷ - Παύλῳ Paul καί and Βαρνάβᾳ, Barnabas: Ἰούδαν Judas τόν - καλούμενον called Βαρσαββᾶν Barsabbas, καί and Σιλᾶν, Silas, ἄνδρας men ἡγουμένους leading ἐν among τοῖς the ἀδελφοῖς, brothers, γράψαντες having written διά by χειρός [the] hand αὐτῶν· of them:

Greetings. Ἐπειδή Inasmuch as ἠκούσαμεν we have heard ὅτι that τινές some ἐκ from ἡμῶν us ἐξελθόντες went out ἐτάραξαν troubled ὑμᾶς you λόγοις by words, ἀνασκευάζοντες upsetting τάς the ψυχάς minds ὑμῶν of you, οἷς to whom οὐ not διεστειλάμεθα, we had given instructions, ἔδοξεν it seemed good ἡμῖν to us γενομένοις having come ὁμοθυμαδόν with one accord, ἐκλεξαμένοις having chosen ἄνδρας men, πέμψαι to send πρός to ὑμᾶς you, σύν with τοῖς the ἀγαπητοῖς beloved ἡμῶν of us, Βαρνάβᾳ Barnabas καί and Παύλῳ, Paul, ἀνθρώποις men παραδεδωκόσι having handed over τάς the ψυχάς lives αὐτῶν of them ὑπέρ for τοῦ the ὀνόματος name τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord ἡμῶν of us, Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστοῦ. Christ. ἀπεστάλκαμεν We have sent οὖν therefore Ἰούδαν Judas καί and Σιλᾶν Silas, καί and αὐτούς they διά by λόγου word [of mouth] ἀπαγγέλλοντας are telling [you] τά the αὐτά. same things. Ἔδοξεν It seemed good γάρ for τῷ to the Πνεύματι Spirit τῷ - Ἁγίῳ Holy καί and ἡμῖν to us, μηδέν no πλέον further ἐπιτίθεσθαι to lay ὑμῖν upon you βάρος burden, πλήν except τούτων these τῶν - ἐπάναγκες, necessary things: ἀπέχεσθαι to abstain εἰδωλοθύτων from things sacrificed to idols, καί and αἵματος from blood, καί and πνικτῶν from what is strangled, καί and πορνείας, from sexual immorality. ἐκ From ὧν these διατηροῦντες keeping ἑαυτούς yourselves, εὖ well πράξετε. you will do. Ἔρρωσθε. Farewell.
οἱ They μέν indeed οὖν therefore, ἀπολυθέντες having been sent off, κατῆλθον went εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν, Antioch, καί and συναγαγόντες having gathered τό the πλῆθος multitude, ἐπέδωκαν they delivered τήν the ἐπιστολήν. letter. ἀναγνόντες Having read [it] δέ now, ἐχάρησαν they rejoiced ἐπί at τῇ the παρακλήσει. encouragement. Ἰούδας Judas τέ both καί and Σιλᾶς Silas, καί also αὐτοί themselves προφῆται prophets ὄντες being, διά by λόγου talk πολλοῦ much παρεκάλεσαν exhorted τούς the ἀδελφούς brothers καί and ἐπεστήριξαν, strengthened [them]. ποιήσαντες Having continued δέ then χρόνον a time, ἀπελύθησαν they were sent away μετ ̓ in εἰρήνης peace ἀπό from τῶν the ἀδελφῶν brothers πρός to τούς those ἀποστείλαντας having sent αὐτούς. them. Παῦλος Paul δέ however καί and Βαρνάβας Barnabas διέτριβον stayed ἐν in Ἀντιοχείᾳ Antioch, διδάσκοντες teaching καί and εὐαγγελιζόμενοι proclaiming the good news, μετά with καί also ἑτέρων others πολλῶν many, τόν the λόγον word τοῦ of the Κυρίου. Μετά After δέ now τινάς some ἡμέρας days, εἶπεν said πρός to Βαρνάβαν Barnabas, Παῦλος· Paul, Ἐπιστρέψαντες Having turned back δή indeed ἐπισκεψώμεθα let us look after τούς the ἀδελφούς brothers κατά in πόλιν city πᾶσαν every ἐν in αἷς which κατηγγείλαμεν we have announced τόν the λόγον word τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord, πῶς how ἔχουσιν. they are. Βαρνάβας Barnabas δέ now ἐβούλετο purposed συμπαραλαβεῖν to take along καί also τόν - Ἰωάννην John τόν - καλούμενον called Μάρκον· Mark; Παῦλος Paul δέ however ἠξίου, thought fit, τόν the [one] ἀποστάντα having withdrawn ἀπ ̓ from αὐτῶν them ἀπό from Παμφυλίας Pamphylia καί and μή not συνελθόντα having gone with αὐτοῖς them εἰς to τό the ἔργον work, μή not συμπαραλαμβάνειν to take along τοῦτον. him. Ἐγένετο Arose δέ therefore παροξυσμός a sharp disagreement, ὥστε so that ἀποχωρισθῆναι separated αὐτούς they ἀπ ̓ from ἀλλήλων, one another; τόν - τέ and Βαρνάβαν Barnabas, παραλαβόντα having taken τόν - Μάρκον Mark, ἐκπλεῦσαι sailed εἰς to Κύπρον, Cyprus. Παῦλος Paul δέ however, ἐπιλεξάμενος having chosen Σιλᾶν Silas, ἐξῆλθεν went forth, παραδοθείς having been committed τῇ to the χάριτι grace τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord ὑπό by τῶν the ἀδελφῶν. brothers. διήρχετο He was passing through δέ then τήν - Συρίαν Syria καί and τήν - Κιλικίαν Cilicia, ἐπιστηρίζων strengthening τάς the ἐκκλησίας. churches. Κατήντησεν He came δέ then καί also εἰς to Δέρβην Derbe καί and εἰς to Λύστραν.
