Καί And ἡμεῖς we ὑμᾶς to you εὐαγγελιζόμεθα preach the gospel, τήν the πρός to τούς the πατέρας fathers ἐπαγγελίαν promise γενομένην, having been made, ὅτι that ταύτην this ὁ - Θεός God ἐκπεπλήρωκεν has fulfilled, τοῖς to the τέκνοις children αὐτῶν of them, ἡμῶν to us, ἀναστήσας having raised up Ἰησοῦν Jesus, ὡς as καί also ἐν in τῷ the ψαλμῷ psalm γέγραπται it has been written, τῷ the δευτέρῳ· second: Υἱός Son μου of Me εἶ are σύ, You, ἐγώ I σήμερον today γεγέννηκα have begotten σε. you.’ Ὅτι That δέ then ἀνέστησεν He raised αὐτόν Him ἐκ out from νεκρῶν [the] dead, μηκέτι no more μέλλοντα being about ὑποστρέφειν to return εἰς to διαφθοράν, decay, οὕτως thus εἴρηκεν He spoke ὅτι -: Δώσω I will give ὑμῖν to you τά the ὅσια holy [blessings] Δαυίδ of David, τά the πιστά. sure [blessings].’ Διότι Therefore καί also ἐν in ἑτέρῳ another λέγει· He says: οὐ Not δώσεις You will allow τόν the Ὅσιον Holy One σου of you ἰδεῖν to see διαφθοράν. decay.’ Δαυίδ David μέν indeed γάρ for ἰδίᾳ in his own γενεᾷ generation ὑπηρετήσας having served τῇ the τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God βουλῇ purpose, ἐκοιμήθη fell asleep καί and προσετέθη was added πρός to τούς the πατέρας fathers αὐτοῦ of him, καί and εἶδεν saw διαφθοράν· decay. ὅν The [One] δέ however ὁ - Θεός God ἤγειρεν, raised up οὐ not εἶδεν did see διαφθοράν. decay. Γνωστόν Known οὖν therefore ἔστω be it ὑμῖν, to you, ἄνδρες men, ἀδελφοί, brothers, ὅτι that διά through τούτου this One, ὑμῖν to you ἄφεσις forgiveness ἁμαρτιῶν of sins καταγγέλλεται, is proclaimed. καί And ἀπό from πάντων all things ὧν from which οὐ not ἠδυνήθητε you were able ἐν in νόμῳ [the] law Μωϋσέως of Moses δικαιωθῆναι, to be justified, ἐν in τούτῳ Him πᾶς everyone ὁ - πιστεύων believing δικαιοῦται. is justified. βλέπετε Take heed οὖν therefore, μή lest ἐπέλθῃ might come about τό that εἰρημένον having been said ἐν in τοῖς the προφήταις· prophets: Ἴδετε, Behold, οἱ - καταφρονηταί, scoffers, καί and θαυμάσατε wonder καί and ἀφανίσθητε, perish; ὅτι for ἔργον a work ἐργάζομαι am working ἐγώ I ἐν in ταῖς the ἡμέραις days ὑμῶν, of you, ἔργον a work ὅ that οὐ never μή not πιστεύσητε you would believe, ἐάν even if τὶς one ἐκδιηγῆται should declare it ὑμῖν. to you.’
Ἐξιόντων Having departed δέ then, αὐτῶν they παρεκάλουν were begging εἰς on τό the μεταξύ next σάββατον Sabbath λαληθῆναι to be spoken αὐτοῖς to them τά the ῥήματα words ταῦτα. these. λυθείσης Having broken up δέ then τῆς the συναγωγῆς synagogue, ἠκολούθησαν followed πολλοί many τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews καί and τῶν of the σεβομένων worshipping προσηλύτων converts τῷ - Παύλῳ Paul καί and τῷ - Βαρνάβᾳ, Barnabas, οἵτινες who προσλαλοῦντες speaking αὐτοῖς to them ἔπειθον kept persuading αὐτούς them προσμένειν to continue τῇ in the χάριτι grace τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. Τῷ On the δέ now ἐρχομένῳ coming σαββάτῳ Sabbath, σχεδόν almost πᾶσα all ἡ the πόλις city συνήχθη was gathered together ἀκοῦσαι to hear τόν the λόγον word τοῦ - κυρίου. of the Lord. ἰδόντες Having seen δέ however οἱ the Ἰουδαῖοι Jews τούς the ὄχλους crowds, ἐπλήσθησαν they were filled ζήλου with jealousy καί and ἀντέλεγον began contradicting τοῖς the things ὑπό by Παύλου Paul λαλουμένοις spoken, βλασφημοῦντες. blaspheming. Παρρησιασάμενοι Having spoken boldly τέ also, ὁ - Παῦλος Paul καί and ὁ - Βαρνάβας Barnabas εἶπαν· said, Ὑμῖν To you ἦν it was ἀναγκαῖον necessary πρῶτον first λαληθῆναι to be spoken τόν the λόγον word τοῦ - Θεοῦ· of God; ἐπειδή but since ἀπωθεῖσθε you thrust away αὐτόν it καί and οὐ not ἀξίους worthy κρίνετε you judge ἑαυτούς yourselves τῆς - αἰωνίου of eternal ζωῆς, life, ἰδού behold, στρεφόμεθα we are turning εἰς to τά the ἔθνη. Gentiles. οὕτως Thus γάρ for ἐντέταλται has commanded ἡμῖν us ὁ the Κύριος· Lord: Τέθεικα I have set σε you εἰς for φῶς a light ἐθνῶν of [the] Gentiles, τοῦ - εἶναι to be σε you εἰς for σωτηρίαν salvation ἕως to ἐσχάτου [the] uttermost part τῆς of the γῆς. earth.’
Ἀκούοντα Hearing [it] δέ then, τά the ἔθνη Gentiles ἔχαιρον were rejoicing καί and ἐδόξαζον glorifying τόν the λόγον word τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord, καί and ἐπίστευσαν believed ὅσοι as many as ἦσαν were τεταγμένοι appointed εἰς to ζωήν life αἰώνιον· eternal. διεφέρετο Was carried δέ then ὁ the λόγος word τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord δι ̓ through ὅλης all τῆς the χώρας. region. οἱ The δέ but Ἰουδαῖοι Jews παρώτρυναν incited τάς the σεβομένας worshipping γυναῖκας women τάς - εὐσχήμονας of honorable position, καί and τούς the πρώτους principals τῆς of the πόλεως city, καί and ἐπήγειραν they stirred up διωγμόν a persecution ἐπί against τόν - Παῦλον Paul καί and Βαρνάβαν Barnabas, καί and ἐξέβαλον expelled αὐτούς them ἀπό from τῶν the ὁρίων district αὐτῶν. of them. οἱ - δέ But ἐκτιναξάμενοι having shaken off τόν the κονιορτόν dust τῶν of the ποδῶν feet ἐπ ̓ against αὐτούς them, ἦλθον they went εἰς to Ἰκόνιον, Iconium; οἵ - τέ and μαθηταί the disciples ἐπληροῦντο were filled χαρᾶς with joy καί and [the] Πνεύματος Spirit Ἁγίου. Ἐγένετο It came to pass δέ now ἐν in Ἰκονίῳ Iconium, κατά according to τό the αὐτό same εἰσελθεῖν entered αὐτούς they εἰς into τήν the συναγωγήν synagogue τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews καί and λαλῆσαι spoke οὕτως so ὥστε that πιστεῦσαι believed Ἰουδαίων of Jewish τέ both καί and Ἑλλήνων Greeks πολύ a great πλῆθος. number. οἱ The δέ however ἀπειθήσαντες unbelieving Ἰουδαῖοι Jews ἐπήγειραν stirred up καί and ἐκάκωσαν poisoned τάς the ψυχάς minds τῶν of the ἐθνῶν Gentiles κατά against τῶν the ἀδελφῶν. brothers. ἱκανόν A long μέν indeed οὖν therefore χρόνον time διέτριψαν they stayed, παρρησιαζόμενοι speaking boldly ἐπί for τῷ the Κυρίῳ Lord, τῷ the [One] μαρτυροῦντι bearing witness ἐπί to τῷ the λόγῳ word τῆς of the χάριτος grace αὐτοῦ, of Him, διδόντι granting σημεῖα signs καί and τέρατα wonders γίνεσθαι to be done διά through τῶν the χειρῶν hands αὐτῶν. of them. Ἐσχίσθη Was divided δέ now τό the πλῆθος multitude τῆς of the πόλεως, city, καί and οἱ some μέν indeed ἦσαν were σύν with τοῖς the Ἰουδαίοις, Jews; οἱ some δέ however σύν with τοῖς the ἀποστόλοις. apostles. ὡς When δέ then ἐγένετο there was ὁρμή a rush τῶν of the ἐθνῶν Gentiles τέ both καί and Ἰουδαίων Jews, σύν with τοῖς the ἄρχουσιν rulers αὐτῶν of them, ὑβρίσαι to mistreat καί and λιθοβολῆσαι to stone αὐτούς, them, συνιδόντες having become aware, κατέφυγον they fled εἰς to τάς the πόλεις cities τῆς - Λυκαονίας of Lycaonia, Λύστραν Lystra, καί and Δέρβην Derbe, καί and τήν the περίχωρον, surrounding region, κἀκεῖ and there εὐαγγελιζόμενοι preaching the gospel ἦσαν. they continued. Καί And τὶς a certain ἀνήρ man ἀδύνατος crippled, ἐν in Λύστροις Lystra, τοῖς in the ποσίν feet, ἐκάθητο, was sitting, χωλός lame ἐκ from κοιλίας [the] womb μητρός of [the] mother αὐτοῦ of him, ὅς who οὐδέποτε never περιεπάτησεν. had walked. οὗτος This [man] ἤκουσεν heard τοῦ - Παύλου Paul λαλοῦντος· speaking, ὅς who, ἀτενίσας having looked intently αὐτῷ at him καί and ἰδών having seen ὅτι that ἔχει he has πίστιν faith τοῦ - σωθῆναι, to be healed, εἶπεν said μεγάλῃ in a loud φωνῇ· voice, Ἀνάστηθι Stand ἐπί on τούς the πόδας feet σου of you ὀρθός. upright! καί And ἥλατο he sprang up καί and περιεπάτει. began to walk. Οἵ - τέ And ὄχλοι the crowds ἰδόντες having seen ὅ what ἐποίησεν had done Παῦλος Paul, ἐπῆραν lifted up τήν the φωνήν voice αὐτῶν of them Λυκαονιστί in Lycaonian, λέγοντες· saying, οἱ The θεοί gods, ὁμοιωθέντες having become like ἀνθρώποις men, κατέβησαν have come down πρός to ἡμᾶς, us. ἐκάλουν They began calling τέ then τόν - Βαρνάβαν Barnabas Δία, Zeus, τόν - δέ and Παῦλον Paul Ἑρμῆν, Hermes, ἐπειδή because αὐτός he ἦν was ὁ the ἡγούμενος leading τοῦ - λόγου. speaker. ὅ - τέ And ἱερεύς the priest τοῦ - Διός of Zeus, τοῦ - ὄντος being πρό just outside τῆς the πόλεως city, ταύρους oxen καί and στέμματα wreaths ἐπί to τούς the πυλῶνας gates ἐνέγκας having brought, σύν with τοῖς the ὄχλοις crowds ἤθελεν was desiring θύειν. to sacrifice. Ἀκούσαντες Having heard δέ however, οἱ the ἀπόστολοι apostles Βαρνάβας Barnabas καί and Παῦλος Paul, διαρρήξαντες having torn τά the ἱμάτια garments αὐτῶν of them, ἐξεπήδησαν rushed out εἰς into τόν the ὄχλον crowd, κράζοντες crying out καί and λέγοντες· saying, Ἄνδρες, Men, τί why ταῦτα these things ποιεῖτε; do you? καί Also ἡμεῖς we ὁμοιοπαθεῖς of like nature ἐσμέν are ὑμῖν with you ἄνθρωποι men, εὐαγγελιζόμενοι proclaiming the gospel ὑμᾶς to you, ἀπό from τούτων these τῶν - ματαίων vanities ἐπιστρέφειν to turn ἐπί to θεόν God ζῶντα, [the] living, ὅς who ἐποίησεν made τόν the οὐρανόν heaven καί and τήν the γῆν earth καί and τήν the θάλασσαν sea καί and πάντα all τά the things ἐν in αὐτοῖς· them, ὅς who ἐν in ταῖς the παρῳχημέναις past γενεαῖς generations εἴασεν allowed πάντα all τά the ἔθνη nations πορεύεσθαι to go ταῖς the ὁδοῖς ways αὐτῶν· of them. καίτοι And yet οὐ not ἀμάρτυρον without witness αὑτόν Himself ἀφῆκεν He has left, ἀγαθουργῶν, doing good, οὐρανόθεν from heaven ὑμῖν to you ὑετούς rains διδούς giving καί and καιρούς seasons καρποφόρους, fruitful, ἐμπιπλῶν filling τροφῆς with food καί and εὐφροσύνης gladness τάς the καρδίας hearts ὑμῶν. of you. Ἐπῆλθαν Came δέ however ἀπό from Ἀντιοχείας Antioch καί and Ἰκονίου Iconium Ἰουδαῖοι Jews, καί and πείσαντες having persuaded τούς the ὄχλους crowds, καί and λιθάσαντες having stoned τόν - Παῦλον Paul, ἔσυρον they dragged [him] ἔξω outside τῆς the πόλεως city, νομίζοντες supposing αὐτόν him τεθνηκέναι. to have died. κυκλωσάντων Having surrounded δέ however τῶν the μαθητῶν disciples αὐτόν him, ἀναστάς having risen up, εἰσῆλθεν he entered εἰς into τήν the πόλιν. city. Καί And τῇ on the ἐπαύριον next day ἐξῆλθεν he went away σύν with τῷ - Βαρνάβᾳ Barnabas εἰς to Δέρβην. Derbe. Εὐαγγελισάμενοι Having proclaimed the gospel to τέ then τήν the πόλιν city ἐκείνην that, καί and μαθητεύσαντες having discipled ἱκανούς many, ὑπέστρεψαν they returned εἰς to τήν - Λύστραν Lystra, καί and εἰς to Ἰκόνιον Iconium, καί and εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν Antioch, ἐπιστηρίζοντες strengthening τάς the ψυχάς souls τῶν of the μαθητῶν, disciples, παρακαλοῦντες exhorting [them] ἐμμένειν to continue τῇ in the πίστει faith, καί and ὅτι that Διά through πολλῶν many θλίψεων tribulations δεῖ it behooves ἡμᾶς us εἰσελθεῖν to enter εἰς into τήν the βασιλείαν kingdom τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. Χειροτονήσαντες Having chosen δέ now αὐτοῖς for them κατ ̓ in every ἐκκλησίαν church πρεσβυτέρους, elders, προσευξάμενοι having prayed, μετά with νηστειῶν fasting παρέθεντο they committed αὐτούς them τῷ to the Κυρίῳ Lord, εἰς in ὅν whom πεπιστεύκεισαν. they had believed. Κἀκεῖθεν And from there ἀπέπλευσαν they sailed εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν, Antioch, ὅθεν from where ἦσαν they had παραδεδομένοι been committed τῇ to the χάριτι grace τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God εἰς for τό the ἔργον work ὅ that ἐπλήρωσαν. they had fulfilled. Παραγενόμενοι Having arrived δέ now καί and συναγαγόντες having gathered together τήν the ἐκκλησίαν church, ἀνήγγελλον they began declaring ὅσα all that ἐποίησεν had done ὁ - Θεός God μετ ̓ with αὐτῶν them, καί and ὅτι that ἤνοιξεν He had opened τοῖς to the ἔθνεσιν Gentiles θύραν a door πίστεως. of faith. διέτριβον They remained δέ then χρόνον time οὐ no ὀλίγον little σύν with τοῖς the μαθηταῖς. disciples.
