τακτῇ On the appointed δέ now ἡμέρᾳ day, ὁ - Ἡρῴδης Herod, ἐνδυσάμενος having put on ἐσθῆτα apparel βασιλικήν royal καί and καθίσας having sat ἐπί on τοῦ the βήματος throne, ἐδημηγόρει was making an address πρός to αὐτούς, them. ὁ - δέ And δῆμος the people ἐπεφώνει· were crying out, Θεοῦ Of a god φωνή [this is the] voice, καί and οὐ not ἀνθρώπου. of a man! Παραχρῆμα Immediately δέ then ἐπάταξεν struck αὐτόν him ἄγγελος an angel Κυρίου of [the] Lord, ἀνθ ̓ in return ὧν for that οὐ not ἔδωκεν he gave τήν the δόξαν glory τῷ - Θεῷ, to God; καί and γενόμενος having been σκωληκόβρωτος eaten by worms, ἐξέψυξεν. he breathed his last.

ὁ - δέ But λόγος the word τοῦ - θεοῦ of God ηὔξανεν continued to grow καί and ἐπληθύνετο. to multiply. Βαρνάβας Barnabas δέ then καί and Σαῦλος Saul ὑπέστρεψαν returned, εἰς to Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem πληρώσαντες having fulfilled τήν the διακονίαν, mission, συμπαραλαβόντες having taken with [them] Ἰωάννην John, τόν the [one] ἐπικληθέντα having been called Μάρκον. Mark.

Ἦσαν There were δέ now ἐν in Ἀντιοχείᾳ Antioch, κατά in τήν the οὖσαν being [there] ἐκκλησίαν church, προφῆται prophets καί and διδάσκαλοι teachers, ὅ - τέ both Βαρνάβας Barnabas καί and Συμεών Simeon ὁ who καλούμενος was called Νίγερ Niger, καί and Λούκιος Lucius ὁ the Κυρηναῖος, Cyrenian, Μαναήν Manaen τέ also — Ἡρῴδου Herod τοῦ the τετραάρχου tetrarch σύντροφος brought up with — καί and Σαῦλος. Λειτουργούντων As were ministering δέ now αὐτῶν they τῷ to the Κυρίῳ Lord καί and νηστευόντων fasting, εἶπεν said τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit τό - Ἅγιον· Holy, Ἀφορίσατε Set apart δή then μοι to Me τόν - Βαρνάβαν Barnabas καί and Σαῦλον Saul εἰς for τό the ἔργον work ὅ to which προσκέκλημαι I have called αὐτούς. them. τότε Then νηστεύσαντες having fasted, καί and προσευξάμενοι having prayed, καί and ἐπιθέντες having laid τάς the χεῖρας hands αὐτοῖς on them, ἀπέλυσαν. they sent [them] off.

Αὐτοί They μέν indeed οὖν therefore ἐκπεμφθέντες having been sent forth ὑπό by τοῦ the Ἁγίου Holy Πνεύματος Spirit, κατῆλθον went down εἰς to Σελεύκειαν, Seleucia. ἐκεῖθεν From there τέ then ἀπέπλευσαν they sailed εἰς to Κύπρον Cyprus. καί And γενόμενοι having come ἐν into Σαλαμῖνι Salamis, κατήγγελλον they began proclaiming τόν the λόγον word τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God ἐν in ταῖς the συναγωγαῖς synagogues τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων. Jews. εἶχον They had δέ now καί also Ἰωάννην John [as] ὑπηρέτην. a helper. Διελθόντες Having passed through δέ now ὅλην all τήν the νῆσον island, ἄχρι as far as Πάφου Paphos, εὗρον they found ἄνδρα a man — τινά a certain μάγον magician, ψευδοπροφήτην a false prophet Ἰουδαῖον Jewish — ᾧ whose ὄνομα name Βαριησοῦ [was] Bar-Jesus, ὅς who ἦν was σύν with τῷ the ἀνθυπάτῳ proconsul Σεργίῳ Sergius Παύλῳ, Paulus, ἀνδρί man συνετῷ. an intelligent. οὗτος He προσκαλεσάμενος having called to [him] Βαρνάβαν Barnabas καί and Σαῦλον Saul, ἐπεζήτησεν desired ἀκοῦσαι to hear τόν the λόγον word τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. ἀνθίστατο Was opposing δέ however αὐτοῖς them Ἐλύμας Elymas ὁ the μάγος, magician — οὕτως thus γάρ for μεθερμηνεύεται means τό the ὄνομα name αὐτοῦ, of him — ζητῶν seeking διαστρέψαι to turn away τόν the ἀνθύπατον proconsul ἀπό from τῆς the πίστεως. faith. Σαῦλος Saul δέ, then, ὁ - καί also [called] Παῦλος, Paul, πλησθείς having been filled Πνεύματος [the] Spirit Ἁγίου Holy, ἀτενίσας having looked intently εἰς upon αὐτόν him, εἶπεν· said, Ὦ O πλήρης full παντός of all δόλου deceit καί and πάσης all ῥᾳδιουργίας, craft, υἱέ son διαβόλου, of [the] devil, ἐχθρέ enemy πάσης of all δικαιοσύνης, righteousness, οὐ not παύσῃ will you cease διαστρέφων perverting τάς the ὁδούς ways τοῦ the Κυρίου of Lord τάς - εὐθείας; straight? καί And νῦν now ἰδού behold, χείρ [the] hand Κυρίου of the Lord ἐπί [is] upon σέ you, καί and ἔσῃ you will be τυφλός blind, μή not βλέπων seeing τόν the ἥλιον sun ἄχρι during καιροῦ. a season. παραχρῆμα Immediately δέ then ἔπεσεν fell ἐπ ̓ upon αὐτόν him ἀχλύς mist καί and σκότος darkness, καί and περιάγων going about ἐζήτει he was seeking χειραγωγούς. someone to lead [him] by the hand. Τότε Then ἰδών having seen ὁ the ἀνθύπατος proconsul τό that γεγονός having happened, ἐπίστευσεν he believed, ἐκπλησσόμενος being astonished ἐπί at τῇ the διδαχῇ teaching τοῦ of the Κυρίου. Lord.

Ἀναχθέντες Having sailed δέ then ἀπό from τῆς - Πάφου Paphos οἱ [with] those περί around [him], Παῦλον Paul ἦλθον came εἰς to Πέργην Perga τῆς - Παμφυλίας, of Pamphylia. Ἰωάννης John δέ however ἀποχωρήσας having departed ἀπ ̓ from αὐτῶν them, ὑπέστρεψεν returned εἰς to Ἱεροσόλυμα. Jerusalem. Αὐτοί They δέ now, διελθόντες having passed through ἀπό from τῆς - Πέργης Perga, παρεγένοντο came εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν Antioch τήν - Πισιδίαν, of Pisidia, καί and εἰσελθόντες having gone εἰς into τήν the συναγωγήν synagogue τῇ on the ἡμέρᾳ day τῶν of the σαββάτων Sabbaths, ἐκάθισαν. they sat down. μετά After δέ then τήν the ἀνάγνωσιν reading τοῦ of the νόμου law καί and τῶν of the προφητῶν Prophets, ἀπέστειλαν sent οἱ the ἀρχισυνάγωγοι rulers of the synagogue πρός to αὐτούς them, λέγοντες· saying, Ἄνδρες Men, ἀδελφοί, brothers, εἴ if τίς any ἐστίν there is ἐν among ὑμῖν you λόγος a word παρακλήσεως of exhortation πρός toward τόν the λαόν, people, λέγετε. speak. Ἀναστάς Having risen up δέ then Παῦλος Paul, καί and κατασείσας having made a sign τῇ with the χειρί hand, εἶπεν· he said, Ἄνδρες Men, Ἰσραηλῖται Israelites, καί and οἱ those φοβούμενοι fearing τόν - Θεόν, God, ἀκούσατε. listen. ὁ The Θεός God τοῦ of the λαοῦ people τούτου this Ἰσραήλ of Israel ἐξελέξατο chose τούς the πατέρας fathers ἡμῶν of us, καί and τόν the λαόν people ὕψωσεν exalted ἐν in τῇ the παροικίᾳ sojourn ἐν in γῇ [the] land Αἰγύπτου of Egypt, καί and μετά with βραχίονος arm ὑψηλοῦ uplifted, ἐξήγαγεν brought αὐτούς them ἐκ out of αὐτῆς, it, καί and ὡς of about τεσσερακονταετῆ forty years χρόνον for a period ἐτροποφόρησεν He endured the ways αὐτούς their ἐν in τῇ the ἐρήμῳ wilderness, καί and καθελών having destroyed ἔθνη nations ἑπτά seven ἐν in γῇ [the] land Χανάαν of Canaan, κατεκληρονόμησεν He gave as an inheritance τήν the γῆν land αὐτῶν of them — ὡς during ἔτεσιν years τετρακοσίοις four hundred καί and πεντήκοντα. fifty. Καί And μετά after ταῦτα these things, ἔδωκεν He gave [them] κριτάς judges ἕως until Σαμουήλ Samuel τοῦ the προφήτου. prophet. κἀκεῖθεν Then ᾐτήσαντο they asked for βασιλέα a king, καί and ἔδωκεν gave αὐτοῖς to them ὁ - Θεός God, τόν - Σαούλ Saul υἱόν son Κίς, of Kish, ἄνδρα a man ἐκ of [the] φυλῆς tribe Βενιαμίν, of Benjamin, ἔτη years τεσσεράκοντα, forty. καί And μεταστήσας having removed αὐτόν him, ἤγειρεν He raised up τόν - Δαυίδ David αὐτοῖς to them εἰς as βασιλέα king, ᾧ to whom καί also εἶπεν He said, μαρτυρήσας· having carried witness: Εὗρον I have found Δαυίδ David τόν the τοῦ [son] Ἰεσσαί, of Jesse ἄνδρα a man κατά according to τήν the καρδίαν heart μου, of Me, ὅς who ποιήσει will do πάντα all τά the θελήματα will μου. of Me. Τούτου Of this [man] ὁ - Θεός God, ἀπό of τοῦ the σπέρματος seed, κατ ̓ according to ἐπαγγελίαν promise, ἤγαγεν has brought τῷ - Ἰσραήλ to Israel Σωτῆρα [the] Savior Ἰησοῦν, Jesus — προκηρύξαντος having proclaimed Ἰωάννου John πρό before [the] προσώπου face τῆς of the εἰσόδου coming αὐτοῦ of Him βάπτισμα a baptism μετανοίας of repentance παντί to all τῷ the λαῷ people Ἰσραήλ. of Israel. ὡς While δέ then ἐπλήρου was fulfilling Ἰωάννης John τόν the δρόμον, course, ἔλεγεν· he was saying, Τί Whom ἐμέ me ὑπονοεῖτε do you suppose εἶναι; to be? οὐ Not εἰμί am ἐγώ· I [he], ἀλλ ̓ but ἰδού behold, ἔρχεται He comes μετ ̓ after ἐμέ me, οὗ of whom οὐ not εἰμί I am ἄξιος worthy τό a ὑπόδημα sandal τῶν of the ποδῶν feet λῦσαι. to untie. Ἄνδρες Men, ἀδελφοί, brothers, υἱοί sons γένους of [the] family Ἀβραάμ of Abraham, καί and οἱ those ἐν among ὑμῖν you φοβούμενοι fearing τόν - Θεόν, God, ἡμῖν to us ὁ the λόγος message τῆς of the σωτηρίας salvation ταύτης this ἐξαπεστάλη. has been sent. οἱ Those γάρ for κατοικοῦντες dwelling ἐν in Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem καί and οἱ the ἄρχοντες rulers αὐτῶν of them, τοῦτον Him ἀγνοήσαντες not having known, καί and τάς the φωνάς voices τῶν of the προφητῶν prophets τάς that κατά on πᾶν every σάββατον Sabbath ἀναγινωσκομένας are being read, κρίναντες having condemned [Him] ἐπλήρωσαν, they fulfilled [them]. καί And μηδεμίαν no αἰτίαν cause θανάτου of death εὑρόντες having found, ᾐτήσαντο they begged Πιλᾶτον Pilate ἀναιρεθῆναι to put to death αὐτόν. him. ὡς When δέ then ἐτέλεσαν they had finished πάντα all τά the things περί about αὐτοῦ Him γεγραμμένα, having been written, καθελόντες having taken [Him] down ἀπό from τοῦ the ξύλου tree, ἔθηκαν they put [Him] εἰς in μνημεῖον. a tomb. ὁ - δέ But Θεός God ἤγειρεν raised αὐτόν Him ἐκ out from νεκρῶν, [the] dead, ὅς who ὤφθη appeared ἐπί for ἡμέρας days πλείους many τοῖς to those συναναβᾶσιν having come up with αὐτῷ Him ἀπό from τῆς - Γαλιλαίας Galilee εἰς to Ἰερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem, οἵτινες who νῦν now εἰσίν are μάρτυρες witnesses αὐτοῦ of Him πρός to τόν the λαόν. people. Καί And ἡμεῖς we ὑμᾶς to you εὐαγγελιζόμεθα preach the gospel, τήν the πρός to τούς the πατέρας fathers ἐπαγγελίαν promise γενομένην, having been made, ὅτι that ταύτην this ὁ - Θεός God ἐκπεπλήρωκεν has fulfilled, τοῖς to the τέκνοις children αὐτῶν of them, ἡμῶν to us, ἀναστήσας having raised up Ἰησοῦν Jesus, ὡς as καί also ἐν in τῷ the ψαλμῷ psalm γέγραπται it has been written, τῷ the δευτέρῳ· second: Υἱός Son μου of Me εἶ are σύ, You, ἐγώ I σήμερον today γεγέννηκα have begotten σε. you.’ Ὅτι That δέ then ἀνέστησεν He raised αὐτόν Him ἐκ out from νεκρῶν [the] dead, μηκέτι no more μέλλοντα being about ὑποστρέφειν to return εἰς to διαφθοράν, decay, οὕτως thus εἴρηκεν He spoke ὅτι -: Δώσω I will give ὑμῖν to you τά the ὅσια holy [blessings] Δαυίδ of David, τά the πιστά. sure [blessings].’ Διότι Therefore καί also ἐν in ἑτέρῳ another λέγει· He says: οὐ Not δώσεις You will allow τόν the Ὅσιον Holy One σου of you ἰδεῖν to see διαφθοράν. decay.’ Δαυίδ David μέν indeed γάρ for ἰδίᾳ in his own γενεᾷ generation ὑπηρετήσας having served τῇ the τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God βουλῇ purpose, ἐκοιμήθη fell asleep καί and προσετέθη was added πρός to τούς the πατέρας fathers αὐτοῦ of him, καί and εἶδεν saw διαφθοράν· decay. ὅν The [One] δέ however ὁ - Θεός God ἤγειρεν, raised up οὐ not εἶδεν did see διαφθοράν. decay. Γνωστόν Known οὖν therefore ἔστω be it ὑμῖν, to you, ἄνδρες men, ἀδελφοί, brothers, ὅτι that διά through τούτου this One, ὑμῖν to you ἄφεσις forgiveness ἁμαρτιῶν of sins καταγγέλλεται, is proclaimed. καί And ἀπό from πάντων all things ὧν from which οὐ not ἠδυνήθητε you were able ἐν in νόμῳ [the] law Μωϋσέως of Moses δικαιωθῆναι, to be justified, ἐν in τούτῳ Him πᾶς everyone ὁ - πιστεύων believing δικαιοῦται. is justified. βλέπετε Take heed οὖν therefore, μή lest ἐπέλθῃ might come about τό that εἰρημένον having been said ἐν in τοῖς the προφήταις· prophets: Ἴδετε, Behold, οἱ - καταφρονηταί, scoffers, καί and θαυμάσατε wonder καί and ἀφανίσθητε, perish; ὅτι for ἔργον a work ἐργάζομαι am working ἐγώ I ἐν in ταῖς the ἡμέραις days ὑμῶν, of you, ἔργον a work ὅ that οὐ never μή not πιστεύσητε you would believe, ἐάν even if τὶς one ἐκδιηγῆται should declare it ὑμῖν. to you.’

Ἐξιόντων Having departed δέ then, αὐτῶν they παρεκάλουν were begging εἰς on τό the μεταξύ next σάββατον Sabbath λαληθῆναι to be spoken αὐτοῖς to them τά the ῥήματα words ταῦτα. these. λυθείσης Having broken up δέ then τῆς the συναγωγῆς synagogue, ἠκολούθησαν followed πολλοί many τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews καί and τῶν of the σεβομένων worshipping προσηλύτων converts τῷ - Παύλῳ Paul καί and τῷ - Βαρνάβᾳ, Barnabas, οἵτινες who προσλαλοῦντες speaking αὐτοῖς to them ἔπειθον kept persuading αὐτούς them προσμένειν to continue τῇ in the χάριτι grace τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. Τῷ On the δέ now ἐρχομένῳ coming σαββάτῳ Sabbath, σχεδόν almost πᾶσα all ἡ the πόλις city συνήχθη was gathered together ἀκοῦσαι to hear τόν the λόγον word τοῦ - κυρίου. of the Lord. ἰδόντες Having seen δέ however οἱ the Ἰουδαῖοι Jews τούς the ὄχλους crowds, ἐπλήσθησαν they were filled ζήλου with jealousy καί and ἀντέλεγον began contradicting τοῖς the things ὑπό by Παύλου Paul λαλουμένοις spoken, βλασφημοῦντες. blaspheming. Παρρησιασάμενοι Having spoken boldly τέ also, ὁ - Παῦλος Paul καί and ὁ - Βαρνάβας Barnabas εἶπαν· said, Ὑμῖν To you ἦν it was ἀναγκαῖον necessary πρῶτον first λαληθῆναι to be spoken τόν the λόγον word τοῦ - Θεοῦ· of God; ἐπειδή but since ἀπωθεῖσθε you thrust away αὐτόν it καί and οὐ not ἀξίους worthy κρίνετε you judge ἑαυτούς yourselves τῆς - αἰωνίου of eternal ζωῆς, life, ἰδού behold, στρεφόμεθα we are turning εἰς to τά the ἔθνη. Gentiles. οὕτως Thus γάρ for ἐντέταλται has commanded ἡμῖν us ὁ the Κύριος· Lord: Τέθεικα I have set σε you εἰς for φῶς a light ἐθνῶν of [the] Gentiles, τοῦ - εἶναι to be σε you εἰς for σωτηρίαν salvation ἕως to ἐσχάτου [the] uttermost part τῆς of the γῆς. earth.’

Ἀκούοντα Hearing [it] δέ then, τά the ἔθνη Gentiles ἔχαιρον were rejoicing καί and ἐδόξαζον glorifying τόν the λόγον word τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord, καί and ἐπίστευσαν believed ὅσοι as many as ἦσαν were τεταγμένοι appointed εἰς to ζωήν life αἰώνιον· eternal. διεφέρετο Was carried δέ then ὁ the λόγος word τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord δι ̓ through ὅλης all τῆς the χώρας. region. οἱ The δέ but Ἰουδαῖοι Jews παρώτρυναν incited τάς the σεβομένας worshipping γυναῖκας women τάς - εὐσχήμονας of honorable position, καί and τούς the πρώτους principals τῆς of the πόλεως city, καί and ἐπήγειραν they stirred up διωγμόν a persecution ἐπί against τόν - Παῦλον Paul καί and Βαρνάβαν Barnabas, καί and ἐξέβαλον expelled αὐτούς them ἀπό from τῶν the ὁρίων district αὐτῶν. of them. οἱ - δέ But ἐκτιναξάμενοι having shaken off τόν the κονιορτόν dust τῶν of the ποδῶν feet ἐπ ̓ against αὐτούς them, ἦλθον they went εἰς to Ἰκόνιον, Iconium; οἵ - τέ and μαθηταί the disciples ἐπληροῦντο were filled χαρᾶς with joy καί and [the] Πνεύματος Spirit Ἁγίου. Holy.

Ἐγένετο It came to pass δέ now ἐν in Ἰκονίῳ Iconium, κατά according to τό the αὐτό same εἰσελθεῖν entered αὐτούς they εἰς into τήν the συναγωγήν synagogue τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews καί and λαλῆσαι spoke οὕτως so ὥστε that πιστεῦσαι believed Ἰουδαίων of Jewish τέ both καί and Ἑλλήνων Greeks πολύ a great πλῆθος. number.
