Ἠκούσθη Was heard δέ now ὁ the λόγος report εἰς in τά the ὦτα ears τῆς of the ἐκκλησίας church τῆς - οὔσης being ἐν in Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem περί concerning αὐτῶν them, καί and ἐξαπέστειλαν they sent forth Βαρνάβαν Barnabas διελθεῖν to go ἕως as far as Ἀντιοχείας. Antioch, ὅς who παραγενόμενος having come καί and ἰδών having seen τήν the χάριν grace τήν of τοῦ - Θεοῦ, God, ἐχάρη rejoiced καί and παρεκάλει was exhorting πάντας all τῇ with προθέσει resolute purpose τῆς - καρδίας of heart προσμένειν to abide τῷ in the Κυρίῳ, Lord. ὅτι For ἦν he was ἀνήρ a man ἀγαθός good, καί and πλήρης full Πνεύματος of [the] Spirit Ἁγίου Holy, καί and πίστεως. of faith. καί And προσετέθη was added ὄχλος a crowd ἱκανός large τῷ to the Κυρίῳ. Lord. Ἐξῆλθεν He went forth δέ then εἰς to Ταρσόν Tarsus ἀναζητῆσαι to seek Σαῦλον, Saul, καί and εὑρών having found [him], ἤγαγεν he brought [him] εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν. Antioch. ἐγένετο It came to pass [that] δέ now αὐτοῖς they καί also ἐνιαυτόν a year ὅλον whole συναχθῆναι gathered together ἐν in τῇ the ἐκκλησίᾳ church καί and διδάξαι taught ὄχλον a crowd ἱκανόν, large. χρηματίσαι Were called τέ then πρώτως first ἐν in Ἀντιοχείᾳ Antioch τούς the μαθητάς disciples, Χριστιανούς. Christians.
ἐν In ταύταις these δέ now ταῖς - ἡμέραις days κατῆλθον came down ἀπό from Ἱεροσολύμων Jerusalem προφῆται prophets εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν. Antioch. ἀναστάς Having risen up δέ now εἷς one ἐκ of αὐτῶν them ὀνόματι named Ἅγαβος Agabus, ἐσήμανεν he signified διά by τοῦ the Πνεύματος Spirit [that] λιμόν a famine μεγάλην great μέλλειν is about ἔσεσθαι to be ἐφ ̓ over ὅλην all τήν the οἰκουμένην, world — ἥτις which ἐγένετο came to pass ἐπί under Κλαυδίου. Claudius. τῶν - δέ And μαθητῶν, the disciples, καθώς as εὐπορεῖτο was prospered τὶς, anyone, ὥρισαν determined ἕκαστος each αὐτῶν of them, εἰς for διακονίαν ministry, πέμψαι to send τοῖς to the κατοικοῦσιν dwelling ἐν in τῇ - Ἰουδαίᾳ Judea ἀδελφοῖς· brothers, ὅ which καί also ἐποίησαν they did, ἀποστείλαντες having sent [it] πρός to τούς the πρεσβυτέρους elders διά by [the] χειρός hand Βαρνάβα of Barnabas καί and Σαύλου. Saul.
Κατ ̓ At ἐκεῖνον that δέ now τόν - καιρόν time, ἐπέβαλεν put forth Ἡρῴδης Herod ὁ the βασιλεύς king τάς the χεῖρας hands κακῶσαι to mistreat τινάς some τῶν of those ἀπό of τῆς the ἐκκλησίας. church. ἀνεῖλεν He put to death δέ then Ἰάκωβον James, τόν the ἀδελφόν brother Ἰωάννου of John, μαχαίρῃ. with the sword. ἰδών Having seen δέ now ὅτι that ἀρεστόν pleasing ἐστίν it is τοῖς to the Ἰουδαίοις, Jews, προσέθετο he proceeded συλλαβεῖν to take καί also Πέτρον— Peter — ἦσαν these were δέ now αἱ the ἡμέραι days τῶν of the ἀζύμων— Unleavened [Bread] — ὅν whom καί also πιάσας having seized, ἔθετο he put εἰς in φυλακήν prison, παραδούς having delivered [him] τέσσαρσιν to four τετραδίοις sets of four στρατιωτῶν soldiers φυλάσσειν to guard αὐτόν, him, βουλόμενος intending μετά after τό the πάσχα Passover ἀναγαγεῖν to bring out αὐτόν him τῷ to the λαῷ. people. ὁ - μέν Indeed οὖν therefore Πέτρος Peter ἐτηρεῖτο was kept ἐν in τῇ the φυλακῇ· prison; προσευχή prayer δέ however ἦν was ἐκτενῶς fervent γινομένη being made ὑπό by τῆς the ἐκκλησίας church πρός to τόν - Θεόν God περί concerning αὐτοῦ. him.
Ὅτε When δέ then ἤμελλεν was about προαγαγεῖν to bring forth αὐτόν him ὁ - Ἡρῴδης, Herod, τῇ the νυκτί night ἐκείνῃ that, ἦν was ὁ - Πέτρος Peter κοιμώμενος sleeping μεταξύ between δύο two στρατιωτῶν soldiers, δεδεμένος having been bound ἁλύσεσιν with chains δυσίν two, φύλακες guards τέ also πρό before τῆς the θύρας door ἐτήρουν were watching τήν the φυλακήν. prison. καί And ἰδού behold, ἄγγελος an angel Κυρίου of [the] Lord ἐπέστη stood by, καί and φῶς a light ἔλαμψεν shone ἐν in τῷ the οἰκήματι· cell. πατάξας Having struck δέ then τήν the πλευράν side τοῦ - Πέτρου of Peter, ἤγειρεν he woke up αὐτόν him, λέγων· saying, Ἀνάστα Rise up ἐν in τάχει. haste. καί And ἐξέπεσαν fell αὐτοῦ of him αἱ the ἁλύσεις chains ἐκ off τῶν the χειρῶν. hands. εἶπεν Said δέ then ὁ the ἄγγελος angel πρός to αὐτόν· him, Ζῶσαι Gird yourself about καί and ὑπόδησαι put on τά the σανδάλια sandals σου. of you. ἐποίησεν He did δέ and οὕτως. so. καί And λέγει he says αὐτῷ· to him, Περιβαλοῦ Wrap around [you] τό the ἱμάτιον cloak σου of you καί and ἀκολούθει follow μοι. me. Καί And ἐξελθών having gone forth, ἠκολούθει he was following καί and οὐ not ᾔδει did know ὅτι that ἀληθές real ἐστίν is τό what γινόμενον is happening διά by means of τοῦ the ἀγγέλου· angel; ἐδόκει he was thinking δέ however ὅραμα a vision βλέπειν. he saw. διελθόντες Having passed through δέ then πρώτην a first φυλακήν guard καί and δευτέραν a second, ἦλθαν they came ἐπί to τήν the πύλην gate τήν - σιδηρᾶν iron τήν - φέρουσαν leading εἰς into τήν the πόλιν, city, ἥτις which αὐτομάτη by itself ἠνοίγη opened αὐτοῖς to them. καί And ἐξελθόντες having gone out προῆλθον they went on through ῥύμην street μίαν, one, καί and εὐθέως immediately ἀπέστη departed ὁ the ἄγγελος angel ἀπ ̓ from αὐτοῦ. him. Καί And ὁ - Πέτρος Peter ἐν to ἑαυτῷ himself γενόμενος having come, εἶπεν· said, Νῦν Now οἶδα I know ἀληθῶς truly ὅτι that ἐξαπέστειλεν has sent forth ὁ the Κύριος Lord τόν the ἄγγελον angel αὐτοῦ of Him καί and ἐξείλατο delivered με me ἐκ out of χειρός [the] hand Ἡρῴδου of Herod καί and πάσης all τῆς the προσδοκίας expectation τοῦ of the λαοῦ people τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων. Jews. Συνιδών Having considered [it] τέ also, ἦλθεν he came ἐπί to τήν the οἰκίαν house τῆς of Μαρίας Mary τῆς the μητρός mother Ἰωάννου of John, τοῦ who ἐπικαλουμένου is called Μάρκου, Mark, οὗ where ἦσαν were ἱκανοί many συνηθροισμένοι having gathered together καί and προσευχόμενοι. praying. κρούσαντος Having knocked δέ then αὐτοῦ of him τήν [at] the θύραν door τοῦ of the πυλῶνος gate, προσῆλθεν came παιδίσκη a girl ὑπακοῦσαι to answer, ὀνόματι named Ῥόδη, Rhoda. καί And ἐπιγνοῦσα having recognized τήν the φωνήν voice τοῦ - Πέτρου of Peter, ἀπό from τῆς - χαρᾶς joy οὐ not ἤνοιξεν she opened τόν the πυλῶνα, gate, εἰσδραμοῦσα having run in; δέ but ἀπήγγειλεν she reported ἑστάναι to be standing τόν - Πέτρον Peter πρό before τοῦ the πυλῶνος. gate. οἱ - δέ And πρός to αὐτήν her εἶπαν· they said, Μαίνῃ. You are out of your mind. ἡ - δέ But διϊσχυρίζετο she kept insisting οὕτως [it] so ἔχειν. to be. οἱ - δέ And ἔλεγον· they kept saying, ὁ The ἄγγελος angel ἐστίν it is αὐτοῦ. of him. ὁ - δέ But Πέτρος Peter ἐπέμενεν continued κρούων· knocking; ἀνοίξαντες having opened [it] δέ then, εἶδαν they saw αὐτόν him καί and ἐξέστησαν. were amazed. κατασείσας Having made a sign δέ then αὐτοῖς to them τῇ with the χειρί hand σιγᾶν to be silent, διηγήσατο he related αὐτοῖς to them πῶς how ὁ the Κύριος Lord αὐτόν him ἐξήγαγεν had brought ἐκ out of τῆς the φυλακῆς prison. εἶπεν He said τέ· then, Ἀπαγγείλατε Report Ἰακώβῳ to James καί and τοῖς to the ἀδελφοῖς brothers ταῦτα. these things. καί And ἐξελθών having gone out, ἐπορεύθη he went εἰς to ἕτερον another τόπον. place.
Γενομένης Having come δέ now ἡμέρας day, ἦν there was τάραχος disturbance οὐ no ὀλίγος small ἐν among τοῖς the στρατιώταις soldiers, τί what ἄρα then [of] ὁ - Πέτρος Peter ἐγένετο. has become. Ἡρῴδης Herod δέ then ἐπιζητήσας having sought after αὐτόν him, καί and μή not εὑρών, having found [him], ἀνακρίνας having examined τούς the φύλακας guards, ἐκέλευσεν he commanded [them] ἀπαχθῆναι, to be led away [to death]. καί And κατελθών having gone down ἀπό from τῆς - Ἰουδαίας Judea εἰς to Καισάρειαν Caesarea, διέτριβεν. he stayed [there].
Ἦν He had been δέ now θυμομαχῶν furiously angry Τυρίοις with [the] Tyrians καί and Σιδωνίοις· Sidonians; ὁμοθυμαδόν with one accord δέ then παρῆσαν they came πρός to αὐτόν him. καί And πείσαντες having gained Βλάστον, Blastus, τόν who [was] ἐπί over τοῦ the κοιτῶνος bedchamber τοῦ of the βασιλέως, king, ᾐτοῦντο they were seeking εἰρήνην peace, διά because of τό - τρέφεσθαι being nourished αὐτῶν their τήν - χώραν region ἀπό by τῆς the βασιλικῆς. king’s. τακτῇ On the appointed δέ now ἡμέρᾳ day, ὁ - Ἡρῴδης Herod, ἐνδυσάμενος having put on ἐσθῆτα apparel βασιλικήν royal καί and καθίσας having sat ἐπί on τοῦ the βήματος throne, ἐδημηγόρει was making an address πρός to αὐτούς, them. ὁ - δέ And δῆμος the people ἐπεφώνει· were crying out, Θεοῦ Of a god φωνή [this is the] voice, καί and οὐ not ἀνθρώπου. of a man! Παραχρῆμα Immediately δέ then ἐπάταξεν struck αὐτόν him ἄγγελος an angel Κυρίου of [the] Lord, ἀνθ ̓ in return ὧν for that οὐ not ἔδωκεν he gave τήν the δόξαν glory τῷ - Θεῷ, to God; καί and γενόμενος having been σκωληκόβρωτος eaten by worms, ἐξέψυξεν. he breathed his last.
ὁ - δέ But λόγος the word τοῦ - θεοῦ of God ηὔξανεν continued to grow καί and ἐπληθύνετο. to multiply. Βαρνάβας Barnabas δέ then καί and Σαῦλος Saul ὑπέστρεψαν returned, εἰς to Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem πληρώσαντες having fulfilled τήν the διακονίαν, mission, συμπαραλαβόντες having taken with [them] Ἰωάννην John, τόν the [one] ἐπικληθέντα having been called Μάρκον. Mark.
Ἦσαν There were δέ now ἐν in Ἀντιοχείᾳ Antioch, κατά in τήν the οὖσαν being [there] ἐκκλησίαν church, προφῆται prophets καί and διδάσκαλοι teachers, ὅ - τέ both Βαρνάβας Barnabas καί and Συμεών Simeon ὁ who καλούμενος was called Νίγερ Niger, καί and Λούκιος Lucius ὁ the Κυρηναῖος, Cyrenian, Μαναήν Manaen τέ also — Ἡρῴδου Herod τοῦ the τετραάρχου tetrarch σύντροφος brought up with — καί and Σαῦλος. Saul. Λειτουργούντων As were ministering δέ now αὐτῶν they τῷ to the Κυρίῳ Lord καί and νηστευόντων fasting, εἶπεν said τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit τό - Ἅγιον· Holy, Ἀφορίσατε Set apart δή then μοι to Me τόν - Βαρνάβαν Barnabas καί and Σαῦλον Saul εἰς for τό the ἔργον work ὅ to which προσκέκλημαι I have called αὐτούς. them. τότε Then νηστεύσαντες having fasted, καί and προσευξάμενοι having prayed, καί and ἐπιθέντες having laid τάς the χεῖρας hands αὐτοῖς on them, ἀπέλυσαν. they sent [them] off.
Αὐτοί They μέν indeed οὖν therefore ἐκπεμφθέντες having been sent forth ὑπό by τοῦ the Ἁγίου Holy Πνεύματος Spirit, κατῆλθον went down εἰς to Σελεύκειαν, Seleucia. ἐκεῖθεν From there τέ then ἀπέπλευσαν they sailed εἰς to Κύπρον Cyprus. καί And γενόμενοι having come ἐν into Σαλαμῖνι Salamis, κατήγγελλον they began proclaiming τόν the λόγον word τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God ἐν in ταῖς the συναγωγαῖς synagogues τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων. Jews. εἶχον They had δέ now καί also Ἰωάννην John [as] ὑπηρέτην. a helper. Διελθόντες Having passed through δέ now ὅλην all τήν the νῆσον island, ἄχρι as far as Πάφου Paphos, εὗρον they found ἄνδρα a man — τινά a certain μάγον magician, ψευδοπροφήτην a false prophet Ἰουδαῖον Jewish — ᾧ whose ὄνομα name Βαριησοῦ [was] Bar-Jesus, ὅς who ἦν was σύν with τῷ the ἀνθυπάτῳ proconsul Σεργίῳ Sergius Παύλῳ, Paulus, ἀνδρί man συνετῷ. an intelligent. οὗτος He προσκαλεσάμενος having called to [him] Βαρνάβαν Barnabas καί and Σαῦλον Saul, ἐπεζήτησεν desired ἀκοῦσαι to hear τόν the λόγον word τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. ἀνθίστατο Was opposing δέ however αὐτοῖς them Ἐλύμας Elymas ὁ the μάγος, magician — οὕτως thus γάρ for μεθερμηνεύεται means τό the ὄνομα name αὐτοῦ, of him — ζητῶν seeking διαστρέψαι to turn away τόν the ἀνθύπατον proconsul ἀπό from τῆς the πίστεως. faith. Σαῦλος Saul δέ, then, ὁ - καί also [called] Παῦλος, Paul, πλησθείς having been filled Πνεύματος [the] Spirit Ἁγίου Holy, ἀτενίσας having looked intently εἰς upon αὐτόν him, εἶπεν· said, Ὦ O πλήρης full παντός of all δόλου deceit καί and πάσης all ῥᾳδιουργίας, craft, υἱέ son διαβόλου, of [the] devil, ἐχθρέ enemy πάσης of all δικαιοσύνης, righteousness, οὐ not παύσῃ will you cease διαστρέφων perverting τάς the ὁδούς ways τοῦ the Κυρίου of Lord τάς - εὐθείας; straight? καί And νῦν now ἰδού behold, χείρ [the] hand Κυρίου of the Lord ἐπί [is] upon σέ you, καί and ἔσῃ you will be τυφλός blind, μή not βλέπων seeing τόν the ἥλιον sun ἄχρι during καιροῦ. a season. παραχρῆμα Immediately δέ then ἔπεσεν fell ἐπ ̓ upon αὐτόν him ἀχλύς mist καί and σκότος darkness, καί and περιάγων going about ἐζήτει he was seeking χειραγωγούς. someone to lead [him] by the hand. Τότε Then ἰδών having seen ὁ the ἀνθύπατος proconsul τό that γεγονός having happened, ἐπίστευσεν he believed, ἐκπλησσόμενος being astonished ἐπί at τῇ the διδαχῇ teaching τοῦ of the Κυρίου. Lord.
Ἀναχθέντες Having sailed δέ then ἀπό from τῆς - Πάφου Paphos οἱ [with] those περί around [him], Παῦλον Paul ἦλθον came εἰς to Πέργην Perga τῆς - Παμφυλίας, of Pamphylia. Ἰωάννης John δέ however ἀποχωρήσας having departed ἀπ ̓ from αὐτῶν them, ὑπέστρεψεν returned εἰς to Ἱεροσόλυμα. Jerusalem. Αὐτοί They δέ now, διελθόντες having passed through ἀπό from τῆς - Πέργης Perga, παρεγένοντο came εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν Antioch τήν - Πισιδίαν, of Pisidia, καί and εἰσελθόντες having gone εἰς into τήν the συναγωγήν synagogue τῇ on the ἡμέρᾳ day τῶν of the σαββάτων Sabbaths, ἐκάθισαν. they sat down. μετά After δέ then τήν the ἀνάγνωσιν reading τοῦ of the νόμου law καί and τῶν of the προφητῶν Prophets, ἀπέστειλαν sent οἱ the ἀρχισυνάγωγοι rulers of the synagogue πρός to αὐτούς them, λέγοντες· saying, Ἄνδρες Men, ἀδελφοί, brothers, εἴ if τίς any ἐστίν there is ἐν among ὑμῖν you λόγος a word παρακλήσεως of exhortation πρός toward τόν the λαόν, people, λέγετε. speak. Ἀναστάς Having risen up δέ then Παῦλος Paul, καί and κατασείσας having made a sign τῇ with the χειρί hand, εἶπεν· he said, Ἄνδρες Men, Ἰσραηλῖται Israelites, καί and οἱ those φοβούμενοι fearing τόν - Θεόν, God, ἀκούσατε. listen. ὁ The Θεός God τοῦ of the λαοῦ people τούτου this Ἰσραήλ of Israel ἐξελέξατο chose τούς the πατέρας fathers ἡμῶν of us, καί and τόν the λαόν people ὕψωσεν exalted ἐν in τῇ the παροικίᾳ sojourn ἐν in γῇ [the] land Αἰγύπτου of Egypt, καί and μετά with βραχίονος arm ὑψηλοῦ uplifted, ἐξήγαγεν brought αὐτούς them ἐκ out of αὐτῆς, it, καί and ὡς of about τεσσερακονταετῆ forty years χρόνον for a period ἐτροποφόρησεν He endured the ways αὐτούς their ἐν in τῇ the ἐρήμῳ wilderness, καί and καθελών having destroyed ἔθνη nations ἑπτά seven ἐν in γῇ [the] land Χανάαν of Canaan, κατεκληρονόμησεν He gave as an inheritance τήν the γῆν land αὐτῶν of them — ὡς during ἔτεσιν years τετρακοσίοις four hundred καί and πεντήκοντα. fifty.
