οἱ - δέ And εἶπαν· they said, Κορνήλιος Cornelius ἑκατοντάρχης, a centurion, ἀνήρ a man δίκαιος righteous καί and φοβούμενος fearing τόν - Θεόν, God, μαρτυρούμενος being well testified to τέ then ὑπό by ὅλου all τοῦ the ἔθνους nation τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων, Jews, ἐχρηματίσθη was divinely instructed ὑπό by ἀγγέλου an angel ἁγίου holy μεταπέμψασθαι to send for σε you εἰς to τόν the οἶκον house αὐτοῦ of him, καί and ἀκοῦσαι to hear ῥήματα a message παρά from σοῦ. you. Εἰσκαλεσάμενος Having called in οὖν therefore αὐτούς them ἐξένισεν. he lodged [them]. Τῇ On the δέ now ἐπαύριον next day ἀναστάς having risen up, ἐξῆλθεν he went forth σύν with αὐτοῖς them, καί and τινές some τῶν of the ἀδελφῶν brothers τῶν those ἀπό from Ἰόππης Joppa συνῆλθον went with αὐτῷ. him. Τῇ On the δέ now ἐπαύριον next day, εἰσῆλθεν he entered εἰς into τήν - Καισάρειαν. Caesarea, ὁ - δέ and Κορνήλιος Cornelius ἦν was προσδοκῶν expecting αὐτούς them, συνκαλεσάμενος having called together τούς the συγγενεῖς relatives αὐτοῦ of him καί and τούς - ἀναγκαίους close φίλους. friends. ὡς As δέ then ἐγένετο was τοῦ - εἰσελθεῖν entering τόν - Πέτρον, Peter, συναντήσας having met αὐτῷ him ὁ - Κορνήλιος Cornelius, πεσών having fallen ἐπί at τούς the πόδας feet, προσεκύνησεν. worshiped [him]. ὁ - δέ But Πέτρος Peter ἤγειρεν lifted up αὐτόν him, λέγων· saying, Ἀνάστηθι· Rise up, καί also ἐγώ I αὐτός myself ἄνθρωπος a man εἰμί. am. Καί And συνομιλῶν talking with αὐτῷ him, εἰσῆλθεν he entered, καί and εὑρίσκει he finds συνεληλυθότας having gathered together πολλούς, many. ἔφη He was saying τέ then πρός to αὐτούς· them, Ὑμεῖς You ἐπίστασθε know ὡς how ἀθέμιτον unlawful ἐστίν it is ἀνδρί for a man Ἰουδαίῳ a Jew κολλᾶσθαι to unite himself ἤ or προσέρχεσθαι to come near ἀλλοφύλῳ· to a foreigner. κἀμοί To me ὁ however Θεός God ἔδειξεν has shown, μηδένα not κοινόν common ἤ or ἀκάθαρτον unclean λέγειν to call ἄνθρωπον· man. διό Therefore καί also ἀναντιρρήτως without objection ἦλθον I came, μεταπεμφθείς. having been summoned. πυνθάνομαι I inquire οὖν therefore, Τίνι for what λόγῳ reason μετεπέμψασθε did you summon με; me? Καί And ὁ - Κορνήλιος Cornelius ἔφη· was saying, Ἀπό Ago τετάρτης four ἡμέρας days, μέχρι until ταύτης this τῆς the ὥρας hour, ἤμην I was τήν at the ἐνάτην ninth hour προσευχόμενος praying ἐν in τῷ the οἴκῳ house μου, of me; καί and ἰδού behold, ἀνήρ a man ἔστη stood ἐνώπιον before μου me ἐν in ἐσθῆτι apparel λαμπρᾷ bright, καί and φησίν· said, Κορνήλιε, Cornelius, εἰσηκούσθη has been heard σου your ἡ - προσευχή prayer, καί and αἱ the ἐλεημοσύναι alms σου of you ἐμνήσθησαν have been remembered ἐνώπιον before τοῦ - Θεοῦ. God. πέμψον Send οὖν therefore εἰς to Ἰόππην Joppa καί and μετακάλεσαι call for Σίμωνα Simon, ὅς who ἐπικαλεῖται is called Πέτρος, Peter; οὗτος He ξενίζεται lodges ἐν in οἰκίᾳ [the] house Σίμωνος of Simon, βυρσέως a tanner παρά by θάλασσαν. [the] sea. Ἐξαυτῆς At once οὖν therefore ἔπεμψα I sent πρός to σέ, you; σύ you τέ then καλῶς well ἐποίησας did, παραγενόμενος. having come. νῦν Now οὖν therefore, πάντες all ἡμεῖς we ἐνώπιον before τοῦ - Θεοῦ God πάρεσμεν are present ἀκοῦσαι to hear πάντα all τά the things προστεταγμένα having been commanded σοι you ὑπό by τοῦ the Κυρίου. Ἀνοίξας Having opened δέ then Πέτρος Peter τό the στόμα mouth, εἶπεν· he said, Ἐπ ̓ Of ἀληθείας a truth καταλαμβάνομαι I understand ὅτι that οὐ not ἔστιν is προσωπολήμπτης One who shows partiality ὁ - Θεός, God, ἀλλ ̓ but ἐν in παντί every ἔθνει nation, ὁ the [one] φοβούμενος fearing αὐτόν Him καί and ἐργαζόμενος working δικαιοσύνην righteousness, δεκτός acceptable αὐτῷ to Him ἐστίν. is, τόν the λόγον word ὅν that ἀπέστειλεν He sent τοῖς to the υἱοῖς sons Ἰσραήλ of Israel, εὐαγγελιζόμενος proclaiming the gospel, εἰρήνην peace διά by Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστοῦ, Christ — οὗτος He ἐστίν is πάντων of all Κύριος, Lord. Ὑμεῖς You yourselves οἴδατε know τό the γενόμενον having come ῥῆμα declaration καθ ̓ through ὅλης all τῆς - Ἰουδαίας, Judea, ἀρξάμενος having begun ἀπό from τῆς - Γαλιλαίας Galilee, μετά after τό the βάπτισμα baptism ὅ that ἐκήρυξεν proclaimed Ἰωάννης, John: Ἰησοῦν Jesus τόν - ἀπό from Ναζαρέθ, Nazareth, ὡς how ἔχρισεν anointed αὐτόν Him ὁ - Θεός God Πνεύματι Spirit Ἁγίῳ with Holy καί and δυνάμει, with power, ὅς who διῆλθεν went about εὐεργετῶν doing good καί and ἰώμενος healing πάντας all τούς those καταδυναστευομένους being oppressed ὑπό by τοῦ the διαβόλου, devil, ὅτι because ὁ - Θεός God ἦν was μετ ̓ with αὐτοῦ. Him. Καί And ἡμεῖς we μάρτυρες [are] witnesses πάντων of all things ὧν that ἐποίησεν He did ἔν in τέ both τῇ the χώρᾳ region τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews καί and ἐν in Ἰερουσαλήμ. Jerusalem, ὅν whom καί also ἀνεῖλαν they put to death, κρεμάσαντες having hanged [Him] ἐπί on ξύλου, a tree. τοῦτον This One ὁ - Θεός God ἤγειρεν raised up ἐν on τῇ the τρίτῃ third ἡμέρᾳ day, καί and ἔδωκεν gave αὐτόν Him ἐμφανῆ manifest γενέσθαι, to become, οὐ not παντί to all τῷ the λαῷ, people, ἀλλά but μάρτυσιν to [the] witnesses τοῖς - προκεχειροτονημένοις having been chosen beforehand ὑπό by τοῦ - Θεοῦ, God, ἡμῖν, to us οἵτινες who συνεφάγομεν did eat with καί and συνεπίομεν drink with αὐτῷ Him μετά after τό - ἀναστῆναι rising αὐτόν His ἐκ out from νεκρῶν· [the] dead. καί And παρήγγειλεν He instructed ἡμῖν us κηρύξαι to proclaim τῷ to the λαῷ people καί and διαμαρτύρασθαι to testify fully ὅτι that οὗτος He ἐστίν is ὁ the [One] ὡρισμένος having been appointed ὑπό by τοῦ - Θεοῦ God Κριτής [as] judge ζώντων of living καί and νεκρῶν. dead. τούτῳ To Him πάντες all οἱ the προφῆται prophets μαρτυροῦσιν bear witness ἄφεσιν [that] forgiveness ἁμαρτιῶν of sins λαβεῖν receives διά through τοῦ the ὀνόματος name αὐτοῦ of Him πάντα everyone τόν - πιστεύοντα believing εἰς in αὐτόν. Ἔτι Still λαλοῦντος speaking τοῦ - Πέτρου of Peter τά the ῥήματα words ταῦτα these, ἐπέπεσεν fell τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit τό - Ἅγιον Holy ἐπί upon πάντας all τούς those ἀκούοντας hearing τόν the λόγον. word. καί And ἐξέστησαν were amazed οἱ the ἐκ from περιτομῆς [the] circumcision πιστοί believers, ὅσοι as many as συνῆλθαν had come with τῷ - Πέτρῳ, Peter, ὅτι that καί even ἐπί upon τά the ἔθνη Gentiles ἡ the δωρεά gift τοῦ of the Ἁγίου Holy Πνεύματος Spirit ἐκκέχυται· has been poured out. ἤκουον They were hearing γάρ for αὐτῶν them λαλούντων speaking γλώσσαις in tongues καί and μεγαλυνόντων magnifying τόν - Θεόν. God. Τότε Then ἀπεκρίθη answered Πέτρος· Peter, Μήτι If not τό the ὕδωρ water δύναται is able κωλῦσαι to withhold τὶς anyone τοῦ - μή not βαπτισθῆναι to baptize τούτους, these οἵτινες who τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit τό - Ἅγιον Holy ἔλαβον have received, ὡς just as καί also [have] ἡμεῖς; we? προσέταξεν He commanded δέ now αὐτούς them ἐν in τῷ the ὀνόματι name Ἰησοῦ of Jesus Χριστοῦ Christ βαπτισθῆναι. to be baptized. τότε Then ἠρώτησαν they asked αὐτόν him ἐπιμεῖναι to remain ἡμέρας days τινάς. some.

Ἤκουσαν Heard δέ now οἱ the ἀπόστολοι apostles καί and οἱ the ἀδελφοί brothers οἱ - ὄντες being κατά in τήν - Ἰουδαίαν Judea ὅτι that καί also τά the ἔθνη Gentiles ἐδέξαντο had received τόν the λόγον word τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. Ὅτε When δέ also ἀνέβη went up Πέτρος Peter εἰς to Ἰερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem, διεκρίνοντο began contending πρός with αὐτόν him οἱ those ἐκ of περιτομῆς [the] circumcision, λέγοντες saying ὅτι -, Εἰσῆλθες You went πρός to ἄνδρας men ἀκροβυστίαν uncircumcision ἔχοντας having, καί and συνέφαγες ate with αὐτοῖς. them. Ἀρξάμενος Having begun δέ now Πέτρος Peter, ἐξετίθετο he set [it] forth αὐτοῖς to them καθεξῆς in order, λέγων· saying, Ἐγώ I ἤμην was ἐν in πόλει [the] city Ἰόππῃ of Joppa προσευχόμενος praying, καί and εἶδον I saw ἐν in ἐκστάσει a trance ὅραμα, a vision, καταβαῖνον descending σκεῦος a vessel τὶ certain ὡς like ὀθόνην a sheet μεγάλην great, τέσσαρσιν by four ἀρχαῖς corners καθιεμένην being let down ἐκ out of τοῦ - οὐρανοῦ, heaven, καί and ἦλθεν it came down ἄχρι as far as ἐμοῦ. me. εἰς On ἥν it ἀτενίσας having looked intently, κατενόουν I was observing [it], καί and εἶδον I saw τά the τετράποδα quadrupeds τῆς of the γῆς earth, καί and τά the θηρία wild beasts, καί and τά the ἑρπετά creeping things, καί and τά the πετεινά birds τοῦ of the οὐρανοῦ. air. ἤκουσα I heard δέ then καί also φωνῆς a voice λεγούσης saying μοι· to me, Ἀναστάς, Having risen up, Πέτρε, Peter, θῦσον kill καί and φάγε. eat. Εἶπον I said δέ· however, Μηδαμῶς, In no way, Κύριε, Lord, ὅτι for κοινόν common ἤ or ἀκάθαρτον unclean οὐδέποτε nothing ever εἰσῆλθεν has entered εἰς into τό the στόμα mouth μου. of me. Ἀπεκρίθη Answered δέ however φωνή the voice ἐκ for δευτέρου a second [time] ἐκ out of τοῦ - οὐρανοῦ· heaven, Ἅ What ὁ - Θεός God ἐκαθάρισεν, has cleansed, σύ you μή not κοίνου. do call unholy. Τοῦτο This δέ now ἐγένετο happened ἐπί on τρίς, three times, καί and ἀνεσπάσθη was drawn up πάλιν again ἅπαντα all εἰς into τόν - οὐρανόν. heaven. Καί And ἰδού behold, ἐξαυτῆς immediately τρεῖς three ἄνδρες men ἐπέστησαν stood ἐπί at τήν the οἰκίαν house ἐν in ᾗ which ἦμεν, I was, ἀπεσταλμένοι having been sent ἀπό from Καισαρείας Caesarea πρός to με. me. εἶπεν Told δέ now τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit μοι me συνελθεῖν to go with αὐτοῖς them, μηδέν not διακρίναντα. having discriminated. ἦλθον Went δέ now σύν with ἐμοί me καί also οἱ - ἕξ six ἀδελφοί brothers οὗτοι these, καί and εἰσήλθομεν we entered εἰς into τόν the οἶκον house τοῦ of the ἀνδρός. man. ἀπήγγειλεν He related δέ then ἡμῖν to us πῶς how εἶδεν he had seen τόν the ἄγγελον angel ἐν in τῷ the οἴκῳ house αὐτοῦ of him, σταθέντα having stood καί and εἰπόντα· having said, Ἀπόστειλον Send forth εἰς to Ἰόππην Joppa, καί and μετάπεμψαι send for Σίμωνα Simon, τόν who ἐπικαλούμενον is called Πέτρον, Peter, ὅς who λαλήσει will speak ῥήματα words πρός to σέ you, ἐν in οἷς which σωθήσῃ will be saved σύ you καί and πᾶς all ὁ the οἶκος household σου. of you. ἐν In δέ then τῷ - ἄρξασθαι beginning με my λαλεῖν to speak, ἐπέπεσεν fell τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit τό - Ἅγιον Holy ἐπ ̓ upon αὐτούς them, ὥσπερ even as καί also ἐφ ̓ upon ἡμᾶς us ἐν in [the] ἀρχῇ. beginning. ἐμνήσθην I remembered δέ then τοῦ the ῥήματος word τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord, ὡς how ἔλεγεν· He had said, Ἰωάννης John μέν indeed ἐβάπτισεν baptized ὕδατι, with water; ὑμεῖς you δέ however βαπτισθήσεσθε will be baptized ἐν with [the] Πνεύματι Spirit Ἁγίῳ. Holy. εἰ If οὖν then τήν the ἴσην same δωρεάν gift ἔδωκεν has given αὐτοῖς to them ὁ - Θεός God ὡς as καί also ἡμῖν to us πιστεύσασιν having believed ἐπί on τόν the Κύριον Lord Ἰησοῦν Jesus Χριστόν, Christ, ἐγώ I τίς how ἤμην was δυνατός able κωλῦσαι to forbid τόν - Θεόν; God? Ἀκούσαντες Having heard δέ then ταῦτα these things, ἡσύχασαν they were silent καί and ἐδόξασαν glorified τόν - Θεόν God, λέγοντες· saying, Ἄρα Then indeed καί also τοῖς to the ἔθνεσιν Gentiles ὁ - Θεός God τήν - μετάνοιαν repentance εἰς unto ζωήν life ἔδωκεν. has given.

οἱ Those μέν indeed οὖν therefore διασπαρέντες having been scattered ἀπό by τῆς the θλίψεως tribulation τῆς - γενομένης having taken place ἐπί over Στεφάνῳ Stephen, διῆλθον passed through ἕως to Φοινίκης Phoenicia, καί and Κύπρου Cyprus, καί and Ἀντιοχείας Antioch, μηδενί to no one λαλοῦντες speaking τόν the λόγον word εἰ if μή not μόνον only Ἰουδαίοις. to Jews. Ἦσαν Were δέ however τινές some ἐκ of αὐτῶν them, ἄνδρες men Κύπριοι of Cyprus καί and Κυρηναῖοι, of Cyrene, οἵτινες who ἐλθόντες having come εἰς into Ἀντιόχειαν Antioch, ἐλάλουν were speaking καί also πρός to τούς the Ἑλληνιστάς Hellenists, εὐαγγελιζόμενοι proclaiming the gospel — τόν the Κύριον Lord Ἰησοῦν. Jesus. καί And ἦν was χείρ [the] hand Κυρίου of [the] Lord μετ ̓ with αὐτῶν, them; πολύς [a] great τέ then ἀριθμός number ὁ - πιστεύσας having believed, ἐπέστρεψεν turned ἐπί to τόν the Κύριον. Lord. Ἠκούσθη Was heard δέ now ὁ the λόγος report εἰς in τά the ὦτα ears τῆς of the ἐκκλησίας church τῆς - οὔσης being ἐν in Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem περί concerning αὐτῶν them, καί and ἐξαπέστειλαν they sent forth Βαρνάβαν Barnabas διελθεῖν to go ἕως as far as Ἀντιοχείας. Antioch, ὅς who παραγενόμενος having come καί and ἰδών having seen τήν the χάριν grace τήν of τοῦ - Θεοῦ, God, ἐχάρη rejoiced καί and παρεκάλει was exhorting πάντας all τῇ with προθέσει resolute purpose τῆς - καρδίας of heart προσμένειν to abide τῷ in the Κυρίῳ, Lord. ὅτι For ἦν he was ἀνήρ a man ἀγαθός good, καί and πλήρης full Πνεύματος of [the] Spirit Ἁγίου Holy, καί and πίστεως. of faith. καί And προσετέθη was added ὄχλος a crowd ἱκανός large τῷ to the Κυρίῳ. Lord. Ἐξῆλθεν He went forth δέ then εἰς to Ταρσόν Tarsus ἀναζητῆσαι to seek Σαῦλον, Saul, καί and εὑρών having found [him], ἤγαγεν he brought [him] εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν. Antioch. ἐγένετο It came to pass [that] δέ now αὐτοῖς they καί also ἐνιαυτόν a year ὅλον whole συναχθῆναι gathered together ἐν in τῇ the ἐκκλησίᾳ church καί and διδάξαι taught ὄχλον a crowd ἱκανόν, large. χρηματίσαι Were called τέ then πρώτως first ἐν in Ἀντιοχείᾳ Antioch τούς the μαθητάς disciples, Χριστιανούς. Christians.

ἐν In ταύταις these δέ now ταῖς - ἡμέραις days κατῆλθον came down ἀπό from Ἱεροσολύμων Jerusalem προφῆται prophets εἰς to Ἀντιόχειαν. Antioch. ἀναστάς Having risen up δέ now εἷς one ἐκ of αὐτῶν them ὀνόματι named Ἅγαβος Agabus, ἐσήμανεν he signified διά by τοῦ the Πνεύματος Spirit [that] λιμόν a famine μεγάλην great μέλλειν is about ἔσεσθαι to be ἐφ ̓ over ὅλην all τήν the οἰκουμένην, world — ἥτις which ἐγένετο came to pass ἐπί under Κλαυδίου. Claudius. τῶν - δέ And μαθητῶν, the disciples, καθώς as εὐπορεῖτο was prospered τὶς, anyone, ὥρισαν determined ἕκαστος each αὐτῶν of them, εἰς for διακονίαν ministry, πέμψαι to send τοῖς to the κατοικοῦσιν dwelling ἐν in τῇ - Ἰουδαίᾳ Judea ἀδελφοῖς· brothers, ὅ which καί also ἐποίησαν they did, ἀποστείλαντες having sent [it] πρός to τούς the πρεσβυτέρους elders διά by [the] χειρός hand Βαρνάβα of Barnabas καί and Σαύλου.
