ἐνόμιζεν He was supposing δέ now συνιέναι to understand τούς the ἀδελφούς brothers αὐτοῦ of him ὅτι that ὁ - Θεός God διά by χειρός [the] hand αὐτοῦ of him δίδωσιν is giving σωτηρίαν salvation αὐτοῖς· them, οἱ - δέ but οὐ not συνῆκαν. they understood. Τῇ On the τέ and ἐπιούσῃ following ἡμέρᾳ day, ὤφθη he appeared αὐτοῖς to those who μαχομένοις were quarreling καί and συνήλλασσεν urged αὐτούς them εἰς to εἰρήνην peace, εἰπών· having said, Ἄνδρες, Men, ἀδελφοί brothers ἐστέ· you are. ἱνατί So that why ἀδικεῖτε wrong you ἀλλήλους; one another? ὁ The [one] δέ however ἀδικῶν mistreating τόν the πλησίον neighbor ἀπώσατο pushed away αὐτόν him, εἰπών· having said, Τίς Who σε you κατέστησεν appointed, ἄρχοντα ruler καί and δικαστήν judge ἐφ ̓ over ἡμῶν; us? μή Not ἀνελεῖν to kill με me σύ you θέλεις desire, ὅν the same τρόπον way ἀνεῖλες you put to death ἐχθές yesterday τόν the Αἰγύπτιον; Egyptian?’ ἔφυγεν Fled δέ then Μωϋσῆς Moses ἐν at τῷ the λόγῳ remark τούτῳ this, καί and ἐγένετο became πάροικος exiled ἐν in γῇ [the] land Μαδιάμ, of Midian, οὗ where ἐγέννησεν he begat υἱούς sons δύο. two. Καί And πληρωθέντων having been passed ἐτῶν years τεσσεράκοντα forty, ὤφθη appeared αὐτῷ to him ἐν in τῇ the ἐρήμῳ wilderness τοῦ of the ὄρους Mount Σινᾶ Sinai ἄγγελος an angel ἐν in φλογί a flame πυρός of fire βάτου. of a bush. ὁ - δέ And Μωϋσῆς Moses ἰδών having seen [it], ἐθαύμαζεν marveled at τό the ὅραμα, vision; προσερχομένου coming near δέ then αὐτοῦ of him κατανοῆσαι to behold [it], ἐγένετο there was φωνή [the] voice Κυρίου· of [the] Lord: Ἐγώ I [am] ὁ the Θεός God τῶν of the πατέρων Fathers σου, of you, ὁ the Θεός God Ἀβραάμ of Abraham, καί and Ἰσαάκ of Isaac, καί and Ἰακώβ. of Jacob.’ ἔντρομος Terrified δέ then γενόμενος having become Μωϋσῆς Moses, οὐ not ἐτόλμα he dared κατανοῆσαι. to look. Εἶπεν Said δέ then αὐτῷ to him ὁ the Κύριος· Lord, Λῦσον Take off τό the ὑπόδημα sandal τῶν of the ποδῶν feet σου, of you, ὁ - γάρ for τόπος the place ἐφ ̓ on ᾧ which ἕστηκας you stand, γῆ ground ἁγία holy ἐστίν. is. ἰδών Having seen, εἶδον I saw τήν the κάκωσιν oppression τοῦ of the λαοῦ people μου of Me τοῦ - ἐν in Αἰγύπτῳ Egypt, καί and τοῦ the στεναγμοῦ groans αὐτῶν of them ἤκουσα, I have heard, καί and κατέβην I have come down ἐξελέσθαι to deliver αὐτούς· them; καί and νῦν now δεῦρο come, ἀποστείλω I will send σε you εἰς to Αἴγυπτον. Egypt.’ Τοῦτον This τόν - Μωϋσῆν Moses, ὅν whom ἠρνήσαντο they rejected, εἰπόντες· having said, Τίς Who σε you κατέστησεν appointed ἄρχοντα ruler καί and δικαστήν; judge?’ — τοῦτον him ὁ whom Θεός God [as] καί and ἄρχοντα ruler καί and λυτρωτήν redeemer ἀπέσταλκεν sent σύν by χειρί [the] hand ἀγγέλου of [the] angel τοῦ - ὀφθέντος having appeared αὐτῷ to him ἐν in τῇ the βάτῳ. bush — οὗτος this one ἐξήγαγεν led out αὐτούς them, ποιήσας having done τέρατα wonders καί and σημεῖα signs ἐν in γῇ [the] land Αἰγύπτῳ of Egypt, καί and ἐν in Ἐρυθρᾷ [the] Red Θαλάσσῃ Sea, καί and ἐν in τῇ the ἐρήμῳ wilderness ἔτη years τεσσεράκοντα. forty. Οὗτος This ἐστίν is ὁ the Μωϋσῆς Moses ὁ - εἴπας having said τοῖς to the υἱοῖς sons Ἰσραήλ· of Israel, Προφήτην A prophet ὑμῖν for you ἀναστήσει will raise up ὁ - Θεός God ἐκ out from τῶν the ἀδελφῶν brothers ὑμῶν of you, ὡς like ἐμέ. me.’ οὗτος This ἐστίν is ὁ the [one] γενόμενος having been ἐν in τῇ the ἐκκλησίᾳ congregation ἐν in τῇ the ἐρήμῳ wilderness, μετά with τοῦ the ἀγγέλου angel τοῦ - λαλοῦντος speaking αὐτῷ to him ἐν in τῷ the ὄρει Mount Σινᾶ Sinai, καί and τῶν of the πατέρων fathers ἡμῶν, of us, ὅς who ἐδέξατο received λόγια oracles ζῶντα living δοῦναι to give ἡμῖν, to us, ᾧ to whom οὐ not ἠθέλησαν were willing ὑπήκοοι obedient γενέσθαι to be οἱ the πατέρες fathers ἡμῶν, of us, ἀλλά but ἀπώσαντο thrust away, καί and ἐστράφησαν turned back ἐν in ταῖς the καρδίαις hearts αὐτῶν of them εἰς to Αἴγυπτον Egypt, εἰπόντες having said τῷ - Ἀαρών· to Aaron, Ποίησον Make ἡμῖν us θεούς gods οἵ who προπορεύσονται will go before ἡμῶν· us. ὁ - γάρ As for Μωϋσῆς Moses οὗτος, this, ὅς who ἐξήγαγεν brought out ἡμᾶς us ἐκ from γῆς [the] land Αἰγύπτου, of Egypt, οὐ not οἴδαμεν we know τί what ἐγένετο has happened αὐτῷ. to him.’ Καί And ἐμοσχοποίησαν they made a calf ἐν in ταῖς the ἡμέραις days ἐκείναις those καί and ἀνήγαγον offered θυσίαν a sacrifice τῷ to the εἰδώλῳ idol, καί and εὐφραίνοντο they were rejoicing ἐν in τοῖς the ἔργοις works τῶν of the χειρῶν hands αὐτῶν. of them. ἔστρεψεν Turned away δέ however ὁ - Θεός God καί and παρέδωκεν delivered αὐτούς them λατρεύειν to worship τῇ the στρατιᾷ host τοῦ of οὐρανοῦ heaven, καθώς as γέγραπται it has been written ἐν in [the] βίβλῳ book τῶν of the προφητῶν· prophets: Μή Not σφάγια slain beasts καί and θυσίας sacrifices προσηνέγκατε did you offer μοι to Me, ἔτη years τεσσεράκοντα forty ἐν in τῇ the ἐρήμῳ, wilderness, οἶκος O house Ἰσραήλ; of Israel? καί And ἀνελάβετε You took up τήν the σκηνήν tabernacle τοῦ - Μολόχ of Moloch, καί and τό the ἄστρον star τοῦ of the θεοῦ god ὑμῶν of you Ῥαιφάν, Rephan, τούς the τύπους images οὕς that ἐποιήσατε you made προσκυνεῖν to worship αὐτοῖς, them; καί and μετοικιῶ I will remove ὑμᾶς you ἐπέκεινα beyond Βαβυλῶνος. Babylon.’

ἡ The σκηνή tabernacle τοῦ of the μαρτυρίου testimony ἦν was τοῖς with πατράσιν fathers ἡμῶν of us ἐν in τῇ the ἐρήμῳ wilderness, καθώς just as διετάξατο had commanded ὁ the [One] λαλῶν speaking τῷ - Μωϋσῇ to Moses, ποιῆσαι to make αὐτήν it κατά according to τόν the τύπον pattern ὅν that ἑωράκει· he had seen, ἥν which καί also εἰσήγαγον brought [it], διαδεξάμενοι having received by succession, οἱ the πατέρες fathers ἡμῶν of us, μετά with Ἰησοῦ Joshua ἐν in τῇ the κατασχέσει taking possession τῶν of the ἐθνῶν, nations ὧν whom ἐξῶσεν drove out ὁ - Θεός God ἀπό from [the] προσώπου face τῶν of the πατέρων fathers ἡμῶν of us, ἕως until τῶν the ἡμερῶν days Δαυίδ, of David, ὅς who εὗρεν found χάριν favor ἐνώπιον before τοῦ - Θεοῦ God καί and ᾐτήσατο asked εὑρεῖν to find σκήνωμα a dwelling place τῷ for the οἴκῳ house Ἰακώβ. of Jacob. Σολομῶν Solomon δέ however οἰκοδόμησεν built αὐτῷ Him οἶκον. [the] house. Ἀλλ ̓ Yet οὐ not ὁ the Ὕψιστος Most High ἐν in χειροποιήτοις hand-made [houses] κατοικεῖ, dwells. καθώς As ὁ the προφήτης prophet λέγει· says: ὁ - οὐρανός Heaven [is] μοι to Me θρόνος, a throne, ἡ - δέ and γῆ the earth ὑποπόδιον a footstool τῶν of the ποδῶν feet μου· of Me. ποῖον What kind of οἶκον house οἰκοδομήσετε will you build μοι, Me, λέγει says Κύριος, [the] Lord, ἤ or τίς what [is] τόπος [the] place τῆς of the καταπαύσεως rest μου; of Me? οὐχί Not ἡ the χείρ hand μου of Me ἐποίησεν has made ταῦτα these things πάντα; all?’

Σκληροτράχηλοι Stiff-necked καί and ἀπερίτμητοι uncircumcised καρδίαις in heart καί and τοῖς - ὠσίν, ears, ὑμεῖς you ἀεί always τῷ the Πνεύματι Spirit τῷ - Ἁγίῳ Holy ἀντιπίπτετε resist; ὡς as οἱ the πατέρες fathers ὑμῶν of you, καί also ὑμεῖς. you. τίνα Which τῶν of the προφητῶν prophets οὐ not ἐδίωξαν did persecute οἱ the πατέρες fathers ὑμῶν; of you? καί And ἀπέκτειναν they killed τούς those προκαταγγείλαντας having foretold περί about τῆς the ἐλεύσεως coming τοῦ of the Δικαίου, Righteous One, οὗ of whom νῦν now ὑμεῖς you προδόται betrayers καί and φονεῖς murderers ἐγένεσθε, have become, οἵτινες who ἐλάβετε received τόν the νόμον law εἰς by διαταγάς [the] ordination ἀγγέλων of angels, καί and οὐ not ἐφυλάξατε. have kept [it].

Ἀκούοντες Hearing δέ now ταῦτα these things, διεπρίοντο they were cut ταῖς in the καρδίαις hearts αὐτῶν of them καί and ἔβρυχον began gnashing τούς the ὀδόντας teeth ἐπ ̓ at αὐτόν. him. ὑπάρχων He being δέ however πλήρης full Πνεύματος of [the] Spirit Ἁγίου Holy, ἀτενίσας having looked intently εἰς into τόν - οὐρανόν heaven, εἶδεν saw δόξαν [the] glory Θεοῦ of God καί and Ἰησοῦν Jesus ἑστῶτα standing ἐκ at δεξιῶν the right hand τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God, καί and εἶπεν· he said, Ἰδού Behold, θεωρῶ I see τούς the οὐρανούς heavens διηνοιγμένους having been opened, καί and τόν the Υἱόν Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man ἐκ at δεξιῶν the right [hand] ἑστῶτα standing τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. Κράξαντες Having cried out δέ then φωνῇ in a voice μεγάλῃ loud, συνέσχον they held τά the ὦτα ears αὐτῶν of them καί and ὥρμησαν rushed ὁμοθυμαδόν with one accord ἐπ ̓ upon αὐτόν him, καί and ἐκβαλόντες having cast [him] ἔξω out of τῆς the πόλεως city, ἐλιθοβόλουν. they began to stone [him]. καί And οἱ the μάρτυρες witnesses ἀπέθεντο laid aside τά the ἱμάτια garments αὐτῶν of them παρά at τούς the πόδας feet νεανίου of a young man καλουμένου named Σαύλου, Saul. Καί And [as] ἐλιθοβόλουν they were stoning τόν - Στέφανον Stephen, ἐπικαλούμενον he was calling out καί and λέγοντα· saying, Κύριε Lord Ἰησοῦ, Jesus, δέξαι receive τό the πνεῦμα spirit μου. of me. θείς Having fallen δέ then τά on [his] γόνατα knees, ἔκραξεν he cried φωνῇ in a voice μεγάλῃ· loud, Κύριε, Lord, μή not στήσῃς place αὐτοῖς to them ταύτην this τήν - ἁμαρτίαν. sin. καί And τοῦτο this εἰπών having said, ἐκοιμήθη. he fell asleep.

Σαῦλος Saul δέ now ἦν was there συνευδοκῶν consenting τῇ to the ἀναιρέσει killing αὐτοῦ. of him.

Ἐγένετο Arose δέ then ἐν on ἐκείνῃ that τῇ - ἡμέρᾳ day διωγμός a persecution μέγας great ἐπί against τήν the ἐκκλησίαν church τήν which [was] ἐν in Ἱεροσολύμοις, Jerusalem. πάντες All δέ then διεσπάρησαν were scattered κατά throughout τάς the χώρας regions τῆς - Ἰουδαίας of Judea καί and Σαμαρείας Samaria, πλήν except τῶν the ἀποστόλων. apostles. συνεκόμισαν Buried δέ now τόν - Στέφανον Stephen ἄνδρες men εὐλαβεῖς devout, καί and ἐποίησαν made κοπετόν lamentation μέγαν great ἐπ ̓ over αὐτῷ. him. Σαῦλος Saul δέ however ἐλυμαίνετο was destroying τήν the ἐκκλησίαν church; κατά [houses] after τούς - οἴκους houses εἰσπορευόμενος, entering, σύρων dragging off τέ then ἄνδρας men καί and γυναῖκας women, παρεδίδου he was delivering [them] εἰς to φυλακήν. prison.

οἱ Those μέν indeed οὖν therefore διασπαρέντες having been scattered διῆλθον went about, εὐαγγελιζόμενοι preaching τόν the λόγον. word. Φίλιππος Philip δέ now, κατελθών having gone down εἰς to τήν - πόλιν [a] city τῆς - Σαμαρείας of Samaria, ἐκήρυσσεν was proclaiming αὐτοῖς to them τόν the Χριστόν. Christ. προσεῖχον Were giving heed δέ now οἱ the ὄχλοι crowds τοῖς to the things λεγομένοις being spoken ὑπό by τοῦ - Φιλίππου Philip ὁμοθυμαδόν with one accord, ἐν in τῷ the [time] ἀκούειν to hear αὐτούς them καί and βλέπειν to see τά the σημεῖα signs ἅ that ἐποίει. he was performing. πολλοί Many γάρ for τῶν of those ἐχόντων having πνεύματα spirits ἀκάθαρτα unclean, βοῶντα crying φωνῇ voice μεγάλῃ in a loud, ἐξήρχοντο, they were coming out [of them]; πολλοί many δέ now, παραλελυμένοι having been paralyzed καί and χωλοί lame, ἐθεραπεύθησαν· were healed. ἐγένετο There was δέ then πολλή great χαρά joy ἐν in τῇ the πόλει city ἐκείνῃ. that.

Ἀνήρ A man δέ now τὶς certain, ὀνόματι named Σίμων Simon, προϋπῆρχεν had been formerly ἐν in τῇ the πόλει city μαγεύων practicing sorcery καί and ἐξιστάνων amazing τό the ἔθνος people τῆς - Σαμαρείας, of Samaria, λέγων declaring εἶναι to be τινά someone ἑαυτόν himself μέγαν, great, ᾧ to whom προσεῖχον were giving heed πάντες all, ἀπό from μικροῦ small ἕως to μεγάλου great, λέγοντες· saying, Οὗτος This one ἐστίν is ἡ the δύναμις power τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God ἡ that καλουμένη [is] called Μεγάλη. Great. προσεῖχον They were giving heed δέ now αὐτῷ to him, διά because τό the ἱκανῷ long χρόνῳ time ταῖς with the μαγείαις magic arts ἐξεστακέναι he had amazed αὐτούς. them. Ὅτε When δέ however ἐπίστευσαν they believed τῷ - Φιλίππῳ Philip, εὐαγγελιζομένῳ proclaiming the gospel περί concerning τῆς the βασιλείας kingdom τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God, καί and τοῦ the ὀνόματος name Ἰησοῦ of Jesus Χριστοῦ, Christ, ἐβαπτίζοντο they were baptized, ἄνδρες men τέ both καί and γυναῖκες. women. ὁ - δέ And Σίμων Simon καί also αὐτός himself ἐπίστευσεν believed, καί and βαπτισθείς having been baptized, ἦν was προσκαρτερῶν steadfastly continuing τῷ - Φιλίππῳ, with Philip. θεωρῶν Beholding τέ then σημεῖα [the] signs καί and δυνάμεις miracles μεγάλας great γινομένας being performed, ἐξίστατο. he was amazed.

Ἀκούσαντες Having heard δέ now οἱ the ἐν in Ἱεροσολύμοις Jerusalem ἀπόστολοι apostles ὅτι that δέδεκται had received ἡ - Σαμάρεια Samaria τόν the λόγον word τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God, ἀπέστειλαν they sent πρός to αὐτούς them Πέτρον Peter καί and Ἰωάννην, John, οἵτινες who καταβάντες having come down, προσηύξαντο prayed περί for αὐτῶν them ὅπως that λάβωσιν they might receive [the] Πνεῦμα Spirit Ἅγιον· Holy. οὐδέπω Not yet γάρ for ἦν He was ἐπ ̓ upon οὐδενί any αὐτῶν of them ἐπιπεπτωκός, fallen; μόνον only δέ however βεβαπτισμένοι baptized ὑπῆρχον they had been εἰς into τό the ὄνομα name τοῦ of the κυρίου Lord Ἰησοῦ. Jesus. τότε Then ἐπετίθεσαν they began laying τάς the χεῖρας hands ἐπ ̓ upon αὐτούς them, καί and ἐλάμβανον they received Πνεῦμα [the] Spirit Ἅγιον. Holy. Ἰδών Having seen δέ now ὁ - Σίμων of Simon ὅτι that διά through τῆς the ἐπιθέσεως laying on τῶν of the χειρῶν hands τῶν of the ἀποστόλων apostles δίδοται was given τό the Πνεῦμα, Spirit, προσήνεγκεν he offered αὐτοῖς to them χρήματα money, λέγων· saying, Δότε Give κἀμοί also to me τήν the ἐξουσίαν authority ταύτην this, ἵνα that ᾧ on whom ἐάν if ἐπιθῶ I may lay τάς the χεῖρας hands, λαμβάνῃ he may receive Πνεῦμα [the] Spirit Ἅγιον. Holy. Πέτρος Peter δέ however εἶπεν said πρός to αὐτόν· him, Τό The ἀργύριον silver σου of you, σύν with σοί you εἴη may it be εἰς to ἀπώλειαν destruction, ὅτι because τήν the δωρεάν gift τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God ἐνόμισας you thought διά by χρημάτων money κτᾶσθαι· to be obtained! οὐ No ἔστιν there is σοι to you μερίς part, οὐδέ nor κλῆρος lot, ἐν in τῷ the λόγῳ matter τούτῳ, this; ἡ the γάρ for καρδία heart σου of you οὐ not ἔστιν is εὐθεῖα right ἔναντι before τοῦ - Θεοῦ. God.
