λέγω I say δέ now ὑμῖν to you ὅτι that πᾶν every ῥῆμα word ἀργόν careless ὅ that λαλήσουσιν will speak οἱ - ἄνθρωποι men, ἀποδώσουσιν they will give περί of αὐτοῦ it λόγον an account ἐν in ἡμέρᾳ day κρίσεως· of judgment. ἐκ By γάρ for τῶν the λόγων words σου of you, δικαιωθήσῃ, you will be justified, καί and ἐκ by τῶν the λόγων words σου of you, καταδικασθήσῃ. you will be condemned.
Τότε Then ἀπεκρίθησαν answered αὐτῷ him τινές some τῶν of the γραμματέων scribes καί and Φαρισαίων Pharisees, λέγοντες· saying, Διδάσκαλε, Teacher, θέλομεν we wish ἀπό from σοῦ You σημεῖον a sign ἰδεῖν. to see. ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Γενεά A generation πονηρά evil καί and μοιχαλίς adulterous σημεῖον a sign ἐπιζητεῖ, seeks for, καί and σημεῖον a sign οὐ not δοθήσεται will be given αὐτῇ to it, εἰ if μή not τό the σημεῖον sign Ἰωνᾶ of Jonah τοῦ the προφήτου. prophet. ὥσπερ Just as γάρ for ἦν was Ἰωνᾶς Jonah ἐν in τῇ the κοιλίᾳ belly τοῦ of the κήτους great fish τρεῖς three ἡμέρας days καί and τρεῖς three νύκτας, nights, οὕτως so ἔσται will be ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man ἐν in τῇ the καρδίᾳ heart τῆς of the γῆς earth τρεῖς three ἡμέρας days καί and τρεῖς three νύκτας. nights. Ἄνδρες The men Νινευῖται of Nineveh ἀναστήσονται will stand up ἐν in τῇ the κρίσει judgment μετά with τῆς the γενεᾶς generation ταύτης this, καί and κατακρινοῦσιν will condemn αὐτήν, it; ὅτι for μετενόησαν they repented εἰς at τό the κήρυγμα preaching Ἰωνᾶ, of Jonah; καί and ἰδού behold, πλεῖον greater Ἰωνᾶ than Jonah ὧδε. here. βασίλισσα The queen νότου of [the] south ἐγερθήσεται will rise up ἐν in τῇ the κρίσει judgment μετά with τῆς the γενεᾶς generation ταύτης this, καί and κατακρινεῖ will condemn αὐτήν, it; ὅτι for ἦλθεν she came ἐκ from τῶν the περάτων ends τῆς of the γῆς earth ἀκοῦσαι to hear τήν the σοφίαν wisdom Σολομῶνος, of Solomon, καί and ἰδού behold, πλεῖον greater Σολομῶνος than Solomon ὧδε. here.
Ὅταν When δέ now τό the ἀκάθαρτον unclean πνεῦμα spirit ἐξέλθῃ is gone out ἀπό from τοῦ the ἀνθρώπου, man, διέρχεται it passes δι ̓ through ἀνύδρων waterless τόπων places ζητοῦν seeking ἀνάπαυσιν rest, καί and οὐ none εὑρίσκει. finds [it]. τότε Then λέγει· it says, εἰς To τόν the οἶκον house μου of me ἐπιστρέψω I will return, ὅθεν from where ἐξῆλθον· I came out. καί And ἐλθόν having come, εὑρίσκει it finds [it] σχολάζοντα being unoccupied, σεσαρωμένον swept, καί and κεκοσμημένον. put in order. τότε Then πορεύεται it goes καί and παραλαμβάνει takes μεθ ̓ with ἑαυτοῦ itself ἑπτά seven ἕτερα other πνεύματα spirits πονηρότερα more evil ἑαυτοῦ than itself, καί and εἰσελθόντα having entered in κατοικεῖ they dwell ἐκεῖ· there; καί and γίνεται becomes τά the ἔσχατα last τοῦ of the ἀνθρώπου man ἐκείνου that χείρονα worse τῶν than the πρώτων. first. οὕτως So ἔσται it will be καί also τῇ unto γενεᾷ generation ταύτῃ this τῇ the πονηρᾷ. evil.
Ἔτι While αὐτοῦ He λαλοῦντος was speaking τοῖς to the ὄχλοις crowds, ἰδού behold, ἡ the μήτηρ mother καί and οἱ the ἀδελφοί brothers αὐτοῦ of Him εἱστήκεισαν were standing ἔξω outside, ζητοῦντες seeking αὐτῷ to Him λαλῆσαι. to speak. εἶπεν Said δέ now τὶς someone αὐτῷ· to Him, Ἰδού Behold, ἡ the μήτηρ mother σου of You καί and οἱ the ἀδελφοί brothers σου of you ἔξω outside ἑστήκασιν are standing, ζητοῦντες seeking σοι to You λαλῆσαι. to speak. ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering, εἶπεν He said τῷ to the [one] λέγοντι telling αὐτῷ· Him, Τίς Who ἐστίν is ἡ the μήτηρ mother μου of Me, καί and τίνες who εἰσίν are οἱ the ἀδελφοί brothers μου; of Me? καί And ἐκτείνας having stretched out τήν the χεῖρα hand αὐτοῦ of Him ἐπί to τούς the μαθητάς disciples αὐτοῦ of Him, εἶπεν· He said, Ἰδού Behold, ἡ the μήτηρ mother μου of Me καί and οἱ the ἀδελφοί brothers μου. of Me. ὅστις Whoever γάρ for ἄν - ποιήσῃ shall do τό the θέλημα will τοῦ the Πατρός Father μου of Me τοῦ who [is] ἐν in οὐρανοῖς [the] heavens, αὐτός he μου My ἀδελφός brother καί and ἀδελφή sister καί and μήτηρ mother ἐστίν. is.
ἐν In τῇ the ἡμέρᾳ day ἐκείνῃ that, ἐξελθών having gone forth ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus τῆς [from] the οἰκίας house, ἐκάθητο was sitting παρά by τήν the θάλασσαν· sea. καί And συνήχθησαν were gathered together πρός to αὐτόν Him ὄχλοι crowds πολλοί, great, ὥστε so that αὐτόν He εἰς into πλοῖον a boat ἐμβάντα having entered καθῆσθαι, sat down, καί and πᾶς all ὁ the ὄχλος crowd ἐπί on τόν the αἰγιαλόν shore εἱστήκει. stood.
Καί And ἐλάλησεν He spoke αὐτοῖς to them πολλά many things ἐν in παραβολαῖς parables, λέγων· saying, Ἰδού Behold, ἐξῆλθεν went out ὁ the [one] σπείρων sowing τοῦ - σπείρειν. to sow. καί And ἐν in τῷ - σπείρειν sowing αὐτόν of him, ἅ some μέν indeed ἔπεσεν fell παρά along τήν the ὁδόν, road, καί and ἐλθόντα having come, τά the πετεινά birds κατέφαγεν devoured αὐτά. them. Ἄλλα Other δέ now ἔπεσεν fell ἐπί upon τά the πετρώδη rocky places, ὅπου where οὐ not εἶχεν it had γῆν soil πολλήν, much, καί and εὐθέως immediately ἐξανέτειλεν it sprang up, διά through τό - μή not ἔχειν having βάθος depth γῆς· of soil; ἡλίου [the] sun δέ now ἀνατείλαντος having risen, ἐκαυματίσθη they were scorched, καί and διά through τό the μή not ἔχειν having ῥίζαν root, ἐξηράνθη. were dried up. Ἄλλα Other δέ now ἔπεσεν fell ἐπί upon τάς the ἀκάνθας, thorns, καί and ἀνέβησαν grew up αἱ the ἄκανθαι thorns, καί and ἔπνιξαν choked αὐτά. them. Ἄλλα Other δέ now ἔπεσεν fell ἐπί upon τήν the γῆν soil τήν - καλήν good, καί and ἐδίδου were yielding καρπόν, fruit, ὅ some μέν indeed ἑκατόν, a hundredfold, ὅ some δέ now ἑξήκοντα, sixty, ὅ some δέ now τριάκοντα. thirty. ὁ The [one] ἔχων having ὦτα ears, ἀκουέτω. let him hear!
Καί And προσελθόντες having come to [Him], οἱ the μαθηταί disciples εἶπαν said αὐτῷ· to Him, Διά Because of τί why ἐν in παραβολαῖς parables λαλεῖς speak You αὐτοῖς; to them? ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering, εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Ὅτι Because Ὑμῖν to you δέδοται it has been granted γνῶναι to know τά the μυστήρια mysteries τῆς of the βασιλείας kingdom τῶν of the οὐρανῶν, heavens; ἐκείνοις to them δέ however οὐ not δέδοται. it has been granted. ὅστις Whoever γάρ for ἔχει, has, δοθήσεται will be given αὐτῷ to him, καί and περισσευθήσεται· he will be in abundance; ὅστις whoever δέ now οὐ not ἔχει, has, καί even ὅ what ἔχει he has ἀρθήσεται will be taken away ἀπ ̓ from αὐτοῦ. him. διά Because of τοῦτο this, ἐν in παραβολαῖς parables αὐτοῖς to them λαλῶ, I speak: Ὅτι Because βλέποντες seeing, οὐ not βλέπουσιν do they see; Καί and ἀκούοντες hearing, οὐ not ἀκούουσιν do they hear, οὐδέ nor συνίουσιν, do they understand. Καί And ἀναπληροῦται is fulfilled αὐτοῖς in them ἡ the προφητεία prophecy Ἠσαΐου of Isaiah, ἡ - λέγουσα· saying: Ἀκοῇ In hearing ἀκούσετε you will hear, καί and οὐ no μή not συνῆτε, understand; Καί and βλέποντες seeing βλέψετε you will see καί and οὐ no μή not ἴδητε. perceive. Ἐπαχύνθη Has grown dull γάρ for ἡ the καρδία heart τοῦ of the λαοῦ people τούτου, this, Καί and τοῖς with the ὠσίν ears βαρέως barely ἤκουσαν they have heard, Καί and τούς the ὀφθαλμούς eyes αὐτῶν of them ἐκάμμυσαν, they have closed; Μήποτε not lest ἴδωσιν they should see τοῖς with the ὀφθαλμοῖς eyes, Καί and τοῖς with the ὠσίν ears ἀκούσωσιν they should hear, Καί and τῇ with the καρδίᾳ heart συνῶσιν they should understand, Καί and ἐπιστρέψωσιν should return, Καί and ἰάσομαι I will heal αὐτούς. them.’
Ὑμῶν Of you δέ however μακάριοι blessed οἱ [are] the ὀφθαλμοί eyes, ὅτι because βλέπουσιν they see; καί and τά the ὦτα ears ὑμῶν of you, ὅτι because ἀκούουσιν. they hear. ἀμήν Truly γάρ for λέγω I say ὑμῖν to you, ὅτι that πολλοί many προφῆται prophets καί and δίκαιοι righteous [men] ἐπεθύμησαν longed ἰδεῖν to see ἅ what βλέπετε you see, καί and οὐ not εἶδαν, saw; καί and ἀκοῦσαι to hear ἅ what ἀκούετε you hear, καί and οὐ not ἤκουσαν. heard.
Ὑμεῖς You οὖν therefore ἀκούσατε hear τήν the παραβολήν parable τοῦ of the [one] σπείραντος. having sown: Παντός Everyone ἀκούοντος hearing τόν the λόγον word τῆς of the βασιλείας kingdom καί and μή not συνιέντος understanding, ἔρχεται comes ὁ the πονηρός evil one καί and ἁρπάζει snatches away τό that ἐσπαρμένον having been sown ἐν in τῇ the καρδίᾳ heart αὐτοῦ, of him. οὗτος This ἐστίν is ὁ the [one] παρά on τήν the ὁδόν path σπαρείς. having been sown. ὁ That which δέ now ἐπί upon τά the πετρώδη rocky places σπαρείς, having been sown, οὗτος this ἐστίν is ὁ the [one] τόν the λόγον word ἀκούων hearing, καί and εὐθύς immediately μετά with χαρᾶς joy λαμβάνων receiving αὐτόν, it; οὐ no ἔχει he has δέ now ῥίζαν root ἐν in ἑαυτῷ himself, ἀλλά but πρόσκαιρος temporary ἐστίν, is; γενομένης having come δέ however θλίψεως tribulation ἤ or διωγμοῦ persecution διά on account of τόν the λόγον word, εὐθύς immediately σκανδαλίζεται. he falls away. ὁ That which δέ now εἰς among τάς the ἀκάνθας thorns σπαρείς, having been sown, οὗτος this ἐστίν is ὁ the [one] τόν the λόγον word ἀκούων, hearing, καί and ἡ the μέριμνα care τοῦ - αἰῶνος [the] present age καί and ἡ the ἀπάτη deceit τοῦ - πλούτου of riches συμπνίγει choke τόν the λόγον word, καί and ἄκαρπος unfruitful γίνεται. it becomes. ὁ That δέ however ἐπί on τήν the καλήν good γῆν soil σπαρείς, having been sown, οὗτος this ἐστίν is ὁ the [one] τόν the λόγον word ἀκούων hearing καί and συνιείς, understanding, ὅς who δή indeed καρποφορεῖ brings forth fruit καί and ποιεῖ produces — ὅ some μέν indeed ἑκατόν, a hundredfold, ὅ some δέ now ἑξήκοντα, sixty, ὅ some δέ now τριάκοντα. thirty.
Ἄλλην Another παραβολήν parable παρέθηκεν put He before αὐτοῖς them, λέγων· saying, Ὡμοιώθη Has become like ἡ the βασιλεία kingdom τῶν of the οὐρανῶν heavens, ἀνθρώπῳ a man σπείραντι having sown καλόν good σπέρμα seed ἐν in τῷ the ἀγρῷ field αὐτοῦ. of him. ἐν In δέ now τῷ the [time] καθεύδειν are sleeping τούς the ἀνθρώπους men, ἦλθεν came αὐτοῦ his ὁ - ἐχθρός enemy καί and ἐπέσπειρεν sowed ζιζάνια weeds ἀνά in [the] μέσον midst τοῦ of the σίτου wheat, καί and ἀπῆλθεν. went away. ὅτε When δέ now ἐβλάστησεν sprouted ὁ the χόρτος plants καί and καρπόν fruit ἐποίησεν, produced, τότε then ἐφάνη appeared καί also τά the ζιζάνια. weeds. Προσελθόντες Having come to [him] δέ now, οἱ the δοῦλοι servants τοῦ the οἰκοδεσπότου master of the house εἶπον said αὐτῷ· to him, Κύριε, Sir, οὐχί not καλόν good σπέρμα seed ἔσπειρας did you sow ἐν in τῷ - σῷ your ἀγρῷ; field? πόθεν How οὖν then ἔχει has it ζιζάνια; the weeds? ὁ - δέ And ἔφη he said αὐτοῖς· to them, Ἐχθρός An enemy, ἄνθρωπος a man τοῦτο this ἐποίησεν. did. οἱ - δέ And δοῦλοι the servants λέγουσιν said, αὐτῷ· to him Θέλεις Do you desire οὖν then ἀπελθόντες [that] having gone forth, συλλέξωμεν we should gather αὐτά; them? ὁ - δέ And φησίν· he said, Οὔ, No; μήποτε not lest συλλέγοντες gathering τά the ζιζάνια weeds, ἐκριζώσητε you would uproot ἅμα with αὐτοῖς them τόν the σῖτον. wheat. ἄφετε Allow συναυξάνεσθαι to grow together ἀμφότερα both ἕως until τοῦ the θερισμοῦ, harvest; καί and ἐν in καιρῷ the time τοῦ of the θερισμοῦ harvest ἐρῶ I will say τοῖς to the θερισταῖς· harvesters, Συλλέξατε Gather πρῶτον first τά the ζιζάνια weeds, καί and δήσατε bind αὐτά them εἰς into δέσμας bundles πρός in order τό - κατακαῦσαι to burn αὐτά, them; τόν - δέ and σῖτον the wheat, συναγάγετε gather together εἰς into τήν the ἀποθήκην barn μου. of me.”’
Ἄλλην Another παραβολήν parable παρέθηκεν put He before αὐτοῖς them, λέγων· saying, Ὁμοία Like ἐστίν is ἡ the βασιλεία kingdom τῶν of the οὐρανῶν heavens κόκκῳ to a grain σινάπεως, of mustard, ὅν which λαβών having taken, ἄνθρωπος a man ἔσπειρεν sowed ἐν in τῷ the ἀγρῷ field αὐτοῦ· of him; ὅ which μικρότερον smallest μέν indeed ἐστίν is πάντων of all τῶν the σπερμάτων, seeds; ὅταν when δέ however αὐξηθῇ it is grown, μεῖζον greater τῶν than the λαχάνων garden plants ἐστίν it is, καί and γίνεται becomes δένδρον, a tree, ὥστε so that ἐλθεῖν come τά the πετεινά birds τοῦ of the οὐρανοῦ air καί and κατασκηνοῦν perch ἐν in τοῖς the κλάδοις branches αὐτοῦ. of it.
Ἄλλην Another παραβολήν parable ἐλάλησεν spoke He αὐτοῖς· to them: Ὁμοία Like ἐστίν is ἡ the βασιλεία kingdom τῶν of the οὐρανῶν heavens ζύμῃ, to leaven, ἥν which λαβοῦσα having taken, γυνή a woman ἐνέκρυψεν hid εἰς in ἀλεύρου of flour σάτα measures τρία three, ἕως until οὗ of it ἐζυμώθη was leavened ὅλον. all. Ταῦτα These things πάντα all ἐλάλησεν spoke ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐν in παραβολαῖς parables τοῖς to the ὄχλοις crowds, καί and χωρίς without παραβολῆς a parable οὐδέν not ἐλάλει He was speaking αὐτοῖς, to them, ὅπως so that πληρωθῇ might be fulfilled τό that ῥηθέν having been spoken διά by τοῦ the προφήτου prophet, λέγοντος· saying, Ἀνοίξω I will open ἐν in παραβολαῖς parables τό the στόμα mouth μου, of Me; ἐρεύξομαι I will utter κεκρυμμένα things hidden ἀπό from καταβολῆς [the] foundation κόσμου. [of the] world.”
Τότε Then ἀφείς having dismissed τούς the ὄχλους crowds, ἦλθεν He went εἰς into τήν the οἰκίαν. house. Καί And προσῆλθον came αὐτῷ to Him οἱ the μαθηταί disciples αὐτοῦ of Him, λέγοντες· saying, Διασάφησον Explain ἡμῖν to us τήν the παραβολήν parable τῶν of the ζιζανίων weeds τοῦ of the ἀγροῦ. field. ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering εἶπεν· He said, ὁ The [One] σπείρων sowing τό the καλόν good σπέρμα seed ἐστίν is ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου, of Man; ὁ - δέ and ἀγρός the field ἐστίν is ὁ the κόσμος, world; τό - δέ and καλόν the good σπέρμα seed, οὗτοι these εἰσίν are οἱ the υἱοί sons τῆς of the βασιλείας· kingdom; τά - δέ and ζιζάνια the weeds εἰσίν are οἱ the υἱοί sons τοῦ of the πονηροῦ, evil [one]; ὁ - δέ and ἐχθρός the enemy ὁ - σπείρας having sown αὐτά them ἐστίν is ὁ the διάβολος, devil; ὁ - δέ and θερισμός the harvest συντέλεια [the] consummation αἰῶνος of the age ἐστίν, is, οἱ - δέ and θερισταί the harvesters ἄγγελοι angels εἰσίν. are.
