Πρό Before δέ now τῆς the ἑορτῆς feast τοῦ of the πάσχα Passover, εἰδώς knowing ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ὅτι that ἦλθεν had come αὐτοῦ His ἡ - ὥρα hour, ἵνα that μεταβῇ He would depart ἐκ out of τοῦ the κόσμου world τούτου this πρός to τόν the Πατέρα, Father, ἀγαπήσας having loved τούς the ἰδίους own τούς who [were] ἐν in τῷ the κόσμῳ world, εἰς to τέλος [the] end ἠγάπησεν He loved αὐτούς. them. καί And δείπνου supper γινομένου, taking place, τοῦ the διαβόλου devil ἤδη already βεβληκότος having put εἰς into τήν the καρδίαν heart ἵνα that παραδοῖ he should betray αὐτόν Him Ἰούδας of Judas, Σίμωνος [son] of Simon Ἰσκαριώτου, Iscariot, εἰδώς knowing ὅτι that πάντα all things ἔδωκεν has given αὐτῷ Him ὁ the Πατήρ Father εἰς into τάς the χεῖρας hands, καί and ὅτι that ἀπό from Θεοῦ God ἐξῆλθεν He came forth καί and πρός to τόν - Θεόν God ὑπάγει, He is going, ἐγείρεται He rises ἐκ from τοῦ the δείπνου supper καί and τίθησιν lays aside τά the ἱμάτια garments. καί And λαβών having taken λέντιον a towel, διέζωσεν He girded ἑαυτόν· Himself. εἶτα After that, βάλλει He pours ὕδωρ water εἰς into τόν the νιπτῆρα basin, καί and ἤρξατο He began νίπτειν to wash τούς the πόδας feet τῶν of the μαθητῶν disciples, καί and ἐκμάσσειν to wipe [them] τῷ with the λεντίῳ towel ᾧ with which ἦν He was διεζωσμένος. girded. Ἔρχεται He comes οὖν then πρός to Σίμωνα Simon Πέτρον· Peter, λέγει who says αὐτῷ· to Him, Κύριε, Lord, σύ You μου of me νίπτεις do wash τούς the πόδας; feet? Ἀπεκρίθη Answered Ἰησοῦς Jesus καί and εἶπεν said αὐτῷ· to him, Ὅ What ἐγώ I ποιῶ do σύ you οὐ not οἶδας know ἄρτι, presently; γνώσῃ you will know δέ however μετά after ταῦτα. these things. Λέγει Says αὐτῷ to Him Πέτρος· Peter, οὐ No μή not νίψῃς shall You wash μου of me τούς the πόδας feet εἰς to τόν the αἰῶνα. age. Ἀπεκρίθη Answered Ἰησοῦς Jesus αὐτῷ· him, Ἐάν If μή not νίψω I wash σε, you, οὐ not ἔχεις you have μέρος part μετ ̓ with ἐμοῦ. Me. Λέγει Says αὐτῷ to Him Σίμων Simon Πέτρος· Peter, Κύριε, Lord, μή not τούς the πόδας feet μου of me μόνον only, ἀλλά but καί also τάς the χεῖρας hands καί and τήν the κεφαλήν. head. Λέγει Says αὐτῷ to him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, ὁ The [one] λελουμένος having been bathed οὐ not ἔχει has χρείαν need, εἰ if μή not τούς the πόδας feet νίψασθαι, to wash, ἀλλ ̓ but ἔστιν is καθαρός clean ὅλος· wholly; καί and ὑμεῖς you all καθαροί clean ἐστέ, are, ἀλλ ̓ but οὐχί not πάντες. all. ᾔδει He knew γάρ for τόν the [one who] παραδιδόντα was betraying αὐτόν· Him; διά on account of τοῦτο this εἶπεν He said ὅτι -, Οὐχί Not πάντες all καθαροί clean ἐστέ. you are.

Ὅτε When οὖν therefore ἔνιψεν He had washed τούς the πόδας feet αὐτῶν of them καί and ἔλαβεν taken τά the ἱμάτια garments αὐτοῦ of Him, καί and ἀνέπεσεν having reclined πάλιν, again, εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Γινώσκετε Do you know τί what πεποίηκα I have done ὑμῖν; to you? ὑμεῖς You φωνεῖτε call με· Me ὁ - Διδάσκαλος, Teacher καί· and ὁ - Κύριος, Lord, καί and καλῶς rightly λέγετε· you say, εἰμί I am γάρ. for. εἰ If οὖν therefore ἐγώ I ἔνιψα have washed ὑμῶν your τούς - πόδας feet, ὁ the Κύριος Lord καί and ὁ the Διδάσκαλος, Teacher, καί also ὑμεῖς you ὀφείλετε ought ἀλλήλων of one another νίπτειν to wash τούς the πόδας· feet. ὑπόδειγμα A pattern γάρ for ἔδωκα I gave ὑμῖν you, ἵνα that καθώς as ἐγώ I ἐποίησα did ὑμῖν to you, καί also ὑμεῖς you ποιῆτε. should do. ἀμήν Truly, ἀμήν truly, λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, οὐ not ἔστιν is δοῦλος a servant μείζων greater than τοῦ the κυρίου master αὐτοῦ of him, οὐδέ nor ἀπόστολος a messenger μείζων greater than τοῦ the [one] πέμψαντος having sent αὐτόν. him. εἰ If ταῦτα these things οἴδατε, you know, μακάριοι blessed ἐστέ are you ἐάν if ποιῆτε you do αὐτά. them.

οὐ Not περί about πάντων all ὑμῶν of you λέγω· I speak. ἐγώ I οἶδα know τίνας whom ἐξελεξάμην· I chose, ἀλλ ̓ but ἵνα that ἡ the γραφή Scripture πληρωθῇ· may be fulfilled: ὁ The [one] τρώγων eating μου of Me τόν the ἄρτον bread ἐπῆρεν lifted up ἐπ ̓ against ἐμέ Me τήν the πτέρναν heel αὐτοῦ. of him.’ ἀπ ̓ From ἄρτι this time λέγω I am telling ὑμῖν you πρό before τοῦ - γενέσθαι, it comes to pass, ἵνα so that πιστεύσητε you should believe ὅταν when γένηται it comes to pass, ὅτι that ἐγώ I εἰμί. am [He]. ἀμήν Truly, ἀμήν truly, λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, ὁ the [one] λαμβάνων receiving ἄν - τινά any πέμψω I shall send, ἐμέ Me λαμβάνει, receives; ὁ the [one] δέ now ἐμέ Me λαμβάνων receiving, λαμβάνει receives τόν the [One] πέμψαντα having sent με. Ταῦτα These things εἰπών having said, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐταράχθη was troubled τῷ - πνεύματι in spirit, καί and ἐμαρτύρησεν He testified καί and εἶπεν· said, Ἀμήν Truly, ἀμήν truly, λέγω I say ὑμῖν to you ὅτι that εἷς one ἐκ of ὑμῶν you παραδώσει will betray με. Me. Ἔβλεπον Began to look εἰς upon ἀλλήλους one another οἱ the μαθηταί disciples, ἀπορούμενοι being uncertain περί of τίνος whom λέγει. He is speaking. ἦν There was ἀνακείμενος reclining εἷς one ἐκ of τῶν the μαθητῶν disciples αὐτοῦ of Him ἐν in τῷ the κόλπῳ bosom τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ, of Jesus, ὅν whom ἠγάπα loved ὁ - Ἰησοῦς. Jesus. νεύει Motions οὖν therefore τούτῳ to him Σίμων Simon Πέτρος Peter πυθέσθαι to ask τίς who ἄν it εἴη is περί about οὗ whom λέγει. He is speaking? ἀναπεσών Having leaned οὖν then ἐκεῖνος he οὕτως thus ἐπί on τό the στῆθος breast τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ of Jesus, λέγει he says αὐτῷ· to Him, Κύριε, Lord, τίς who ἐστίν; is it? Ἀποκρίνεται Answers ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Ἐκεῖνος He ἐστίν it is ᾧ to whom ἐγώ I βάψω will dip τό the ψωμίον morsel καί and δώσω will give αὐτῷ. him. βάψας Having dipped οὖν then τό the ψωμίον morsel, λαμβάνει He takes [it] καί and δίδωσιν gives [it] Ἰούδᾳ to Judas, Σίμωνος [son] of Simon Ἰσκαριώτου. Iscariot. καί And μετά after τό the ψωμίον morsel, τότε then εἰσῆλθεν entered εἰς into ἐκεῖνον him ὁ - Σατανᾶς. Satan. Λέγει Says οὖν therefore αὐτῷ to him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Ὅ What ποιεῖς you do, ποίησον do τάχιον. quickly. τοῦτο This δέ now οὐδείς no one ἔγνω knew τῶν of those ἀνακειμένων reclining πρός to τί what εἶπεν He spoke αὐτῷ· to him. τινές Some γάρ for ἐδόκουν, were thinking, ἐπεί since τό the γλωσσόκομον money bag εἶχεν had Ἰούδας, Judas, ὅτι that λέγει is saying αὐτῷ to him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Ἀγόρασον Buy ὧν what things χρείαν need [of] ἔχομεν we have εἰς for τήν the ἑορτήν, feast, ἤ or τοῖς to the πτωχοῖς poor ἵνα that τὶ something δῷ. he should give. λαβών Having received οὖν therefore τό the ψωμίον morsel, ἐκεῖνος he ἐξῆλθεν went out εὐθύς. immediately; ἦν it was δέ now νύξ. night.

Ὅτε When οὖν therefore ἐξῆλθεν, he had gone out, λέγει says Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Νῦν Now ἐδοξάσθη has been glorified ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man, καί and ὁ - Θεός God ἐδοξάσθη has been glorified ἐν in αὐτῷ· Him. εἰ If ὁ - Θεός God ἐδοξάσθη is glorified ἐν in αὐτῷ, Him, καί also ὁ - Θεός God δοξάσει will glorify αὐτόν Him ἐν in αὑτῷ, Himself, καί and εὐθύς immediately δοξάσει will glorify αὐτόν. Him. Τεκνία, Little children, ἔτι yet μικρόν a little while μεθ ̓ with ὑμῶν you εἰμί· I am. ζητήσετε You will seek με, Me; καί and, καθώς as εἶπον I said τοῖς to the Ἰουδαίοις Jews ὅτι -: Ὅπου Where ἐγώ I ὑπάγω go, ὑμεῖς you οὐ not δύνασθε are able ἐλθεῖν, to come, καί also ὑμῖν to you λέγω I say ἄρτι. now. Ἐντολήν A commandment καινήν new δίδωμι I give ὑμῖν, to you, ἵνα that ἀγαπᾶτε you should love ἀλλήλους, one another; καθώς as ἠγάπησα I have loved ὑμᾶς you, ἵνα so καί also ὑμεῖς you ἀγαπᾶτε should love ἀλλήλους. one another. ἐν By τούτῳ this γνώσονται will know πάντες all ὅτι that ἐμοί to Me μαθηταί disciples ἐστέ, you are, ἐάν if ἀγάπην love ἔχητε you have ἐν among ἀλλήλοις. one another.

Λέγει Says αὐτῷ to Him Σίμων Simon Πέτρος· Peter, Κύριε, Lord, ποῦ where ὑπάγεις; go You? Ἀπεκρίθη Answered αὐτῷ him Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Ὅπου Where ὑπάγω I go, οὐ not δύνασαι you are able μοι Me νῦν now ἀκολουθῆσαι, to follow; ἀκολουθήσεις you will follow δέ however ὕστερον. afterward. Λέγει Says αὐτῷ to Him ὁ - Πέτρος· Peter, Κύριε, Lord, διά because of τί why οὐ not δύναμαι am I able σοι You ἀκολουθῆσαι to follow ἄρτι; presently? τήν The ψυχήν life μου of me ὑπέρ for σοῦ You θήσω. I will lay down. Ἀποκρίνεται Answered Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Τήν The ψυχήν life σου of you ὑπέρ for ἐμοῦ Me θήσεις; will you lay down? ἀμήν Truly, ἀμήν truly, λέγω I say σοι, to you, οὐ no μή not ἀλέκτωρ [the] rooster φωνήσῃ will crow, ἕως until οὗ that ἀρνήσῃ you will deny με Me τρίς. three times.

Μή Not ταρασσέσθω let be troubled ὑμῶν of you ἡ the καρδία· heart. πιστεύετε You believe εἰς in τόν - Θεόν God, καί also εἰς in ἐμέ Me πιστεύετε. believe. ἐν In τῇ the οἰκίᾳ house τοῦ of the Πατρός Father μου of Me, μοναί mansions πολλαί many εἰσίν· there are; εἰ if δέ now μή, not, εἶπον would I have told ἄν - ὑμῖν you ὅτι that πορεύομαι I go ἑτοιμάσαι to prepare τόπον a place ὑμῖν; for you? καί And ἐάν if πορευθῶ I go καί and ἑτοιμάσω prepare τόπον a place ὑμῖν, for you, πάλιν again ἔρχομαι I am coming καί and παραλήμψομαι will receive ὑμᾶς you πρός to ἐμαυτόν, Myself, ἵνα that ὅπου where εἰμί am ἐγώ I, καί also ὑμεῖς you ἦτε. may be. καί And ὅπου to the place ἐγώ I ὑπάγω am going, οἴδατε you know τήν the ὁδόν. way.”

Λέγει Says αὐτῷ to Him Θωμᾶς· Thomas, Κύριε, Lord, οὐ not οἴδαμεν we know ποῦ where ὑπάγεις· You are going; πῶς how δυνάμεθα can we τήν the ὁδόν way εἰδέναι; know? Λέγει Says αὐτῷ to him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Ἐγώ I εἰμί am ἡ the ὁδός way, καί and ἡ the ἀλήθεια truth, καί and ἡ the ζωή· life. οὐδείς No one ἔρχεται comes πρός to τόν the Πατέρα Father, εἰ if μή not δι ̓ by ἐμοῦ. Me. εἰ If ἐγνώκατε you had known με, Me, καί also τόν the Πατέρα Father μου of Me γνώσεσθε. you would have known; καί ἀπ ̓ from ἄρτι now γινώσκετε you know αὐτόν Him καί and ἑωράκατε have seen αὐτόν. Him.

Λέγει Says αὐτῷ to Him Φίλιππος· Philip, Κύριε, Lord, δεῖξον show ἡμῖν us τόν the Πατέρα, Father, καί and ἀρκεῖ it is enough ἡμῖν. for us. Λέγει Says αὐτῷ to him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Τοσούτῳ So long χρόνῳ a time μεθ ̓ with ὑμῶν you εἰμί am I, καί and οὐ not ἔγνωκας you have known με, Me, Φίλιππε; Philip? ὁ The [one] ἑωρακώς having seen ἐμέ Me ἑώρακεν has seen τόν the Πατέρα· Father; πῶς how σύ you λέγεις· say, Δεῖξον Show ἡμῖν us τόν the Πατέρα; Father?’ οὐ Not πιστεύεις believe you ὅτι that ἐγώ I [am] ἐν in τῷ the Πατρί Father, καί and ὁ the Πατήρ Father ἐν in ἐμοί Me ἐστίν; is? τά The ῥήματα words ἅ that ἐγώ I λέγω speak ὑμῖν to you, ἀπ ̓ from ἐμαυτοῦ Myself οὐ not λαλῶ, I speak, ὁ - δέ but Πατήρ the Father ἐν in ἐμοί Me μένων dwelling ποιεῖ does τά the ἔργα works αὐτοῦ. of Him. πιστεύετε Believe μοι Me ὅτι that ἐγώ I [am] ἐν in τῷ the Πατρί Father, καί and ὁ the Πατήρ Father ἐν in ἐμοί· Me; εἰ if δέ but μή, not, διά because of τά the ἔργα works αὐτά themselves πιστεύετε. believe. Ἀμήν Truly, ἀμήν truly, λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, ὁ the [one] πιστεύων believing εἰς in ἐμέ Me, τά the ἔργα works ἅ that ἐγώ I ποιῶ do, κἀκεῖνος also he ποιήσει will do, καί and μείζονα greater τούτων than these ποιήσει, he will do, ὅτι because ἐγώ I πρός to τόν the Πατέρα Father πορεύομαι· am going. καί And ὅ τὶ whatever ἄν - αἰτήσητε you might ask ἐν in τῷ the ὀνόματι name μου of Me, τοῦτο this ποιήσω, will I do, ἵνα so that δοξασθῇ may be glorified ὁ the Πατήρ Father ἐν in τῷ the Υἱῷ. Son. ἐάν If τὶ anything αἰτήσητε you ask με Me ἐν in τῷ the ὀνόματι name μου of Me, ἐγώ I ποιήσω. will do [it].

Ἐάν If ἀγαπᾶτε you love με, Me, τάς - ἐντολάς commandments τάς - ἐμάς My τηρήσετε· you will keep. Κἀγώ And I ἐρωτήσω will ask τόν the Πατέρα Father, καί and ἄλλον another Παράκλητον Helper δώσει He will give ὑμῖν, you, ἵνα that μεθ ̓ with ὑμῶν you εἰς to τόν the αἰῶνα age, ᾖ, He may be τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit τῆς - ἀληθείας, of truth, ὅ whom ὁ the κόσμος world οὐ not δύναται is able λαβεῖν, to receive, ὅτι because οὐ not θεωρεῖ it does see αὐτό Him, οὐδέ nor γινώσκει· know. ὑμεῖς But you γινώσκετε know αὐτό, Him, ὅτι for παρ ̓ with ὑμῖν you μένει He abides, καί and ἐν in ὑμῖν you ἔσται. He will be. οὐκ Not ἀφήσω I will leave ὑμᾶς you ὀρφανούς, as orphans; ἔρχομαι I am coming πρός to ὑμᾶς. you. ἔτι Yet μικρόν a little while καί and ὁ the κόσμος world με Me οὐκέτι no more θεωρεῖ, sees, ὑμεῖς you δέ however θεωρεῖτε see με, Me; ὅτι because ἐγώ I ζῶ live, καί also ὑμεῖς you ζήσετε. will live. ἐν In ἐκείνῃ that τῇ - ἡμέρᾳ day γνώσεσθε will know ὑμεῖς you ὅτι that ἐγώ I [am] ἐν in τῷ the Πατρί Father μου of Me, καί and ὑμεῖς you ἐν in ἐμοί Me, κἀγώ and I ἐν in ὑμῖν. you.
