ἐκείνη She δέ then ὡς when ἤκουσεν she heard, ἠγέρθη rose up ταχύ quickly καί and ἤρχετο was coming πρός to αὐτόν. Him. Οὔπω Not yet δέ now ἐληλύθει had come ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἰς into τήν the κώμην, village, ἀλλ ̓ but ἦν was ἔτι still ἐν in τῷ the τόπῳ place ὅπου where ὑπήντησεν had met αὐτῷ Him ἡ - Μάρθα. Martha. οἱ The οὖν then Ἰουδαῖοι Jews οἱ - ὄντες being μετ ̓ with αὐτῆς her ἐν in τῇ the οἰκίᾳ house καί and παραμυθούμενοι consoling αὐτήν, her, ἰδόντες having seen τήν - Μαριάμ Mary ὅτι that ταχέως quickly ἀνέστη she rose up καί and ἐξῆλθεν, went out, ἠκολούθησαν followed αὐτῇ her, δόξαντες having supposed ὅτι - ὑπάγει she is going εἰς to τό the μνημεῖον tomb ἵνα that κλαύσῃ she might weep ἐκεῖ. there.
ἡ - οὖν Therefore Μαριάμ Mary, ὡς when ἦλθεν she came ὅπου to where ἦν was Ἰησοῦς Jesus, ἰδοῦσα having seen αὐτόν Him, ἔπεσεν fell αὐτοῦ of Him πρός at τούς the πόδας feet, λέγουσα saying αὐτῷ· to Him, Κύριε, Lord, εἰ if ἦς You had been ὧδε here, οὐ not ἄν - μου of me ἀπέθανεν would have died ὁ the ἀδελφός. brother. Ἰησοῦς Jesus οὖν therefore ὡς when εἶδεν He saw αὐτήν her κλαίουσαν weeping, καί and τούς the συνελθόντας having come with αὐτῇ her Ἰουδαίους Jews κλαίοντας, weeping, ἐνεβριμήσατο He was deeply moved τῷ - πνεύματι in spirit καί and ἐτάραξεν troubled ἑαυτόν Himself. καί And εἶπεν· He said, Ποῦ Where τεθείκατε have you laid αὐτόν; him. Λέγουσιν They say αὐτῷ· to Him, Κύριε, Lord, ἔρχου come καί and ἴδε. see. Ἐδάκρυσεν Wept ὁ - Ἰησοῦς. Jesus. Ἔλεγον Were saying οὖν therefore οἱ the Ἰουδαῖοι· Jews, Ἴδε Behold πῶς how ἐφίλει He loved αὐτόν. him! Τινές Some δέ however ἐκ of αὐτῶν them εἶπαν· said, οὐκ Not ἐδύνατο was able οὗτος this [man] ὁ - ἀνοίξας having opened τούς the ὀφθαλμούς eyes τοῦ of the τυφλοῦ blind, ποιῆσαι to have caused ἵνα that καί also οὗτος this one μή not ἀποθάνῃ; should have died?
Ἰησοῦς Jesus οὖν therefore πάλιν again, ἐμβριμώμενος being deeply moved ἐν in ἑαυτῷ Himself, ἔρχεται comes εἰς to τό the μνημεῖον· tomb. ἦν It was δέ now σπήλαιον a cave, καί and λίθος a stone ἐπέκειτο was lying ἐπ ̓ against αὐτῷ. it. λέγει Says ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Ἄρατε Take away τόν the λίθον. stone. Λέγει Says αὐτῷ to Him ἡ the ἀδελφή sister τοῦ of the [one] τετελευτηκότος having died, Μάρθα· Martha, Κύριε, Lord, ἤδη already ὄζει, he stinks, τεταρταῖος four days γάρ for ἐστίν. it is. Λέγει Says αὐτῇ to her ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, οὐκ Not εἶπον said I σοι to you ὅτι that ἐάν if πιστεύσῃς you should believe, ὄψῃ you will see τήν the δόξαν glory τοῦ - Θεοῦ; of God? Ἦραν They took away οὖν therefore τόν the λίθον. stone. ὁ - δέ Now Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἦρεν lifted τούς His ὀφθαλμούς eyes ἄνω upwards καί and εἶπεν· said, Πάτερ, Father, εὐχαριστῶ I thank σοι You ὅτι that ἤκουσας You have heard μου. Me. ἐγώ I δέ and ᾔδειν knew ὅτι that πάντοτε always μου Me ἀκούεις, You hear; ἀλλά but διά on account of τόν the ὄχλον crowd τόν - περιεστῶτα standing around εἶπον, I said [it], ἵνα that πιστεύσωσιν they may believe ὅτι that σύ You με Me ἀπέστειλας. sent. Καί And ταῦτα these things εἰπών having said, φωνῇ in a voice μεγάλῃ loud ἐκραύγασεν· He cried out, Λάζαρε, Lazarus, δεῦρο come ἔξω. forth. ἐξῆλθεν Came forth ὁ the [one] τεθνηκώς having been dead, δεδεμένος being bound τούς the πόδας feet καί and τάς the χεῖρας hands κειρίαις with linen strips, καί and ἡ the ὄψις face αὐτοῦ of him σουδαρίῳ in a headcloth περιεδέδετο. bound about. Λέγει Says αὐτοῖς to them ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Λύσατε Unbind αὐτόν him καί and ἄφετε allow αὐτόν him ὑπάγειν. to go.
Πολλοί Many οὖν therefore ἐκ of τῶν the Ἰουδαίων Jews οἱ - ἐλθόντες having come πρός to τήν - Μαριάμ Mary καί and θεασάμενοι having seen ἅ what ἐποίησεν He did, ἐπίστευσαν believed εἰς in αὐτόν· Him; τινές some δέ however ἐκ of αὐτῶν them ἀπῆλθον went πρός to τούς the Φαρισαίους Pharisees καί and εἶπαν told αὐτοῖς them ἅ what ἐποίησεν had done Ἰησοῦς. Jesus.
Συνήγαγον Gathered οὖν therefore οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and οἱ the Φαρισαῖοι Pharisees συνέδριον a council, καί and ἔλεγον· they were saying, Τί What ποιοῦμεν are we to do? ὅτι For οὗτος this ὁ - ἄνθρωπος man πολλά many ποιεῖ does σημεῖα; signs. ἐάν If ἀφῶμεν we shall let him alone αὐτόν Him οὕτως, like this, πάντες all πιστεύσουσιν will believe εἰς in αὐτόν, Him, καί and ἐλεύσονται will come οἱ the Ῥωμαῖοι Romans καί and ἀροῦσιν will take away ἡμῶν of us καί both τόν the τόπον place καί and τό the ἔθνος. nation. Εἷς One δέ however τὶς certain ἐκ of αὐτῶν them, Καϊάφας, Caiaphas, ἀρχιερεύς high priest ὤν being τοῦ the ἐνιαυτοῦ year ἐκείνου, same, εἶπεν said αὐτοῖς· to them, Ὑμεῖς You οὐ not οἴδατε know οὐδέν, nothing, οὐδέ nor λογίζεσθε consider you ὅτι that συμφέρει it is profitable ὑμῖν for you ἵνα that εἷς one ἄνθρωπος man ἀποθάνῃ should die ὑπέρ for τοῦ the λαοῦ people, καί and μή not ὅλον all τό the ἔθνος nation ἀπόληται. should perish. Τοῦτο This δέ now ἀφ ̓ from ἑαυτοῦ himself οὐ not εἶπεν, he said, ἀλλά but ἀρχιερεύς high priest ὤν being τοῦ the ἐνιαυτοῦ year ἐκείνου that, ἐπροφήτευσεν he prophesied ὅτι that ἔμελλεν was about Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἀποθνήσκειν to die ὑπέρ for τοῦ the ἔθνους, nation, καί and οὐ not ὑπέρ for τοῦ the ἔθνους nation μόνον only, ἀλλ ̓ but ἵνα that καί also τά the τέκνα children τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God, τά those διεσκορπισμένα having been scattered, συναγάγῃ He might gather together εἰς into ἕν. one. Ἀπ ̓ From ἐκείνης that οὖν therefore τῆς - ἡμέρας day ἐβουλεύσαντο they took counsel together ἵνα that ἀποκτείνωσιν they might kill αὐτόν. Him.
ὁ - οὖν Therefore Ἰησοῦς Jesus οὐκέτι no longer παρρησίᾳ publicly περιεπάτει walked ἐν among τοῖς the Ἰουδαίοις, Jews, ἀλλά but ἀπῆλθεν went away ἐκεῖθεν from there εἰς into τήν the χώραν region ἐγγύς near τῆς the ἐρήμου, wilderness, εἰς to Ἐφραίμ Ephraim λεγομένην called πόλιν, a city. κἀκεῖ And there ἔμεινεν He stayed μετά with τῶν the μαθητῶν. disciples.
Ἦν Was δέ now ἐγγύς near τό the πάσχα Passover τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων, Jews, καί and ἀνέβησαν went up πολλοί many εἰς to Ἱεροσόλυμα Jerusalem ἐκ out of τῆς the χώρας region πρό before τοῦ the πάσχα Passover, ἵνα so that ἁγνίσωσιν they might purify ἑαυτούς. themselves. ἐζήτουν They were seeking οὖν therefore τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus καί and ἔλεγον were saying μετ ̓ among ἀλλήλων one another ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple ἑστηκότες· standing, Τί What δοκεῖ does it seem ὑμῖν; to you, ὅτι that οὐ no μή not ἔλθῃ He will come εἰς to τήν the ἑορτήν; feast? δεδώκεισαν Had given δέ now οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and οἱ the Φαρισαῖοι Pharisees ἐντολάς a command ἵνα that ἐάν if τὶς anyone γνῷ should know ποῦ where ἐστίν He is, μηνύσῃ, he should show [it], ὅπως so that πιάσωσιν they might seize αὐτόν. Him.
ὁ - οὖν Therefore Ἰησοῦς Jesus, πρό before ἕξ six ἡμερῶν days τοῦ the πάσχα Passover, ἦλθεν came εἰς to Βηθανίαν, Bethany, ὅπου where ἦν was Λάζαρος, Lazarus, ὅν whom ἤγειρεν had raised ἐκ out from νεκρῶν [the] dead Ἰησοῦς. Jesus. ἐποίησαν They made οὖν therefore αὐτῷ Him δεῖπνον a supper ἐκεῖ, there, καί and ἡ - Μάρθα Martha διηκόνει, was serving, ὁ - δέ and Λάζαρος Lazarus εἷς one ἦν was ἐκ of τῶν those ἀνακειμένων reclining σύν with αὐτῷ. Him.
ἡ - οὖν Therefore Μαριάμ Mary, λαβοῦσα having taken λίτραν a litra μύρου of fragrant oil νάρδου of nard πιστικῆς pure πολυτίμου of great price, ἤλειψεν anointed τούς the πόδας feet τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ of Jesus καί and ἐξέμαξεν wiped ταῖς with the θριξίν hair αὐτῆς of her τούς the πόδας feet αὐτοῦ· of Him; ἡ the δέ now οἰκία house ἐπληρώθη was filled ἐκ with τῆς the ὀσμῆς fragrance τοῦ of the μύρου. oil. Λέγει Says δέ however Ἰούδας Judas ὁ - Ἰσκαριώτης Iscariot, εἷς one ἐκ of τῶν the μαθητῶν disciples αὐτοῦ, of Him, ὁ - μέλλων being about αὐτόν Him παραδιδόναι· to betray, Διά Because of τί why τοῦτο this τό - μύρον fragrant oil οὐ not ἐπράθη was sold τριακοσίων for three hundred δηναρίων denarii καί and ἐδόθη given πτωχοῖς; to [the] poor? εἶπεν He said δέ however τοῦτο this, οὐ not ὅτι because περί for τῶν the πτωχῶν poor ἔμελεν he was caring αὐτῷ, to him, ἀλλ ̓ but ὅτι because κλέπτης a thief ἦν he was, καί and τό the γλωσσόκομον money bag ἔχων having, τά that βαλλόμενα being put into [it] ἐβάσταζεν. he used to pilfer. Εἶπεν Said οὖν therefore ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Ἄφες Leave alone αὐτήν, her, ἵνα so that εἰς for τήν the ἡμέραν day τοῦ of the ἐνταφιασμοῦ burial μου of Me τηρήσῃ she may keep αὐτό· it; τούς the πτωχούς poor γάρ for πάντοτε always ἔχετε you have μεθ ̓ with ἑαυτῶν, you; ἐμέ Me δέ however οὐ not πάντοτε always ἔχετε. you have.
Ἔγνω Knew οὖν therefore ὁ - ὄχλος a crowd πολύς great ἐκ of τῶν the Ἰουδαίων Jews ὅτι that ἐκεῖ there ἐστίν He is; καί and ἦλθον they came, οὐ not διά because of τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus μόνον, only, ἀλλ ̓ but ἵνα that καί also τόν - Λάζαρον Lazarus ἴδωσιν they might see, ὅν whom ἤγειρεν He had raised ἐκ out from νεκρῶν. [the] dead. ἐβουλεύσαντο Took counsel δέ however οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests ἵνα that καί also τόν - Λάζαρον Lazarus ἀποκτείνωσιν, they might kill, ὅτι because πολλοί many δι ̓ on account of αὐτόν him ὑπῆγον were going away τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews καί and ἐπίστευον were believing εἰς in τόν - Ἰησοῦν. Jesus.
Τῇ On the ἐπαύριον next day ὁ the ὄχλος crowd πολύς great ὁ - ἐλθών having come εἰς to τήν the ἑορτήν, feast, ἀκούσαντες having heard ὅτι that ἔρχεται is coming ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἰς into Ἱεροσόλυμα Jerusalem, ἔλαβον took τά the βαΐα branches τῶν of the φοινίκων palm trees καί and ἐξῆλθον went out εἰς to ὑπάντησιν meet αὐτῷ Him, καί and ἐκραύγαζον· were shouting: Ὡσαννά· Hosanna!” Εὐλογημένος Blessed is ὁ the [One] ἐρχόμενος coming ἐν in ὀνόματι [the] name Κυρίου, of [the] Lord!” Καί And ὁ the Βασιλεύς King τοῦ - Ἰσραήλ. of Israel!” Εὑρών Having found δέ then ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ὀνάριον a young donkey, ἐκάθισεν He sat ἐπ ̓ upon αὐτό, it, καθώς as ἐστίν it is γεγραμμένον· written: Μή Not φοβοῦ, fear, θυγάτηρ daughter Σιών· of Zion. ἰδού Behold, ὁ the Βασιλεύς King σου of you ἔρχεται, comes, καθήμενος sitting ἐπί on πῶλον a colt ὄνου. of a donkey.”
Ταῦτα These things οὐ not ἔγνωσαν knew αὐτοῦ of Him οἱ the μαθηταί disciples τό from the πρῶτον, first, ἀλλ ̓ but ὅτε when ἐδοξάσθη was glorified Ἰησοῦς Jesus, τότε then ἐμνήσθησαν they remembered ὅτι that ταῦτα these things ἦν were ἐπ ̓ of αὐτῷ Him γεγραμμένα written, καί and ταῦτα these things ἐποίησαν they had done αὐτῷ. to Him. Ἐμαρτύρει Continued to bear witness οὖν therefore ὁ the ὄχλος crowd ὁ - ὤν being μετ ̓ with αὐτοῦ Him ὅτε when τόν - Λάζαρον Lazarus ἐφώνησεν He called ἐκ out of τοῦ the μνημείου tomb καί and ἤγειρεν raised αὐτόν him ἐκ out from νεκρῶν. [the] dead. διά On account of τοῦτο this καί also ὑπήντησεν met αὐτῷ Him ὁ the ὄχλος, crowd, ὅτι because ἤκουσαν they heard τοῦτο this αὐτόν of His πεποιηκέναι having done τό the σημεῖον. sign. οἱ - οὖν Therefore Φαρισαῖοι the Pharisees εἶπαν said πρός among ἑαυτούς· themselves, Θεωρεῖτε You see ὅτι that οὐ not ὠφελεῖτε you gain οὐδέν· nothing. ἴδε Behold, ὁ the κόσμος world ὀπίσω after αὐτοῦ Him ἀπῆλθεν. has gone.
Ἦσαν There were δέ now Ἕλληνες Greeks τινές certain ἐκ among τῶν those ἀναβαινόντων coming up ἵνα that προσκυνήσωσιν they might worship ἐν at τῇ the ἑορτῇ· feast; οὗτοι these οὖν therefore προσῆλθον came Φιλίππῳ to Philip, τῷ who was ἀπό from Βηθσαϊδά Bethsaida τῆς - Γαλιλαίας of Galilee, καί and ἠρώτων they were asking αὐτόν him λέγοντες· saying, Κύριε, Sir, θέλομεν we desire τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus ἰδεῖν. to see. ἔρχεται Comes ὁ - Φίλιππος Philip καί and λέγει tells τῷ - Ἀνδρέᾳ, Andrew; ἔρχεται come Ἀνδρέας Andrew καί and Φίλιππος Philip καί and λέγουσιν tell τῷ - Ἰησοῦ. Jesus. ὁ - δέ And Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἀποκρίνεται answered αὐτοῖς them λέγων· saying, Ἐλήλυθεν Has come ἡ the ὥρα hour ἵνα that δοξασθῇ should be glorified ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου. of Man. ἀμήν Truly, ἀμήν truly, λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, ἐάν if μή not ὁ the κόκκος grain τοῦ - σίτου of wheat, πεσών having fallen εἰς into τήν the γῆν ground, ἀποθάνῃ, should die, αὐτός it μόνος alone μένει· abides; ἐάν if δέ however ἀποθάνῃ, it should die, πολύν much καρπόν fruit φέρει. it bears. ὁ The [one] φιλῶν loving τήν the ψυχήν life αὐτοῦ of him, ἀπολλύει loses αὐτήν, it, καί and ὁ the [one] μισῶν hating τήν the ψυχήν life αὐτοῦ of him ἐν in τῷ the κόσμῳ world τούτῳ this, εἰς to ζωήν life αἰώνιον eternal φυλάξει will keep αὐτήν. it. ἐάν If ἐμοί Me τὶς anyone διακονῇ, serves, ἐμοί Me ἀκολουθείτω, let him follow; καί and ὅπου where εἰμί am ἐγώ I, ἐκεῖ there καί also ὁ the διάκονος servant ὁ - ἐμός of Me ἔσται· will be. ἐάν If τὶς anyone ἐμοί Me διακονῇ serves, τιμήσει will honor αὐτόν him ὁ the Πατήρ. Father. Νῦν Now ἡ the ψυχή soul μου of Me τετάρακται, has been troubled, καί and τί what εἴπω; shall I say? Πάτερ, Father, σῶσον save με Me ἐκ from τῆς the ὥρας hour ταύτης; this.’ ἀλλά But διά on account of τοῦτο this ἦλθον I came εἰς to τήν the ὥραν hour ταύτην. this.
