οἱ The πατέρες fathers ἡμῶν of us ἐν on τῷ the ὄρει mountain τούτῳ this προσεκύνησαν· worshiped, καί and ὑμεῖς you λέγετε say ὅτι that ἐν in Ἱεροσολύμοις Jerusalem ἐστίν is ὁ the τόπος place ὅπου where προσκυνεῖν to worship δεῖ. it is necessary. Λέγει Says αὐτῇ to her ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Πίστευε Believe μοι, Me, γύναι, woman, ὅτι that ἔρχεται is coming ὥρα an hour ὅτε when οὔτε neither ἐν on τῷ the ὄρει mountain τούτῳ this, οὔτε nor ἐν in Ἱεροσολύμοις Jerusalem, προσκυνήσετε will you worship τῷ the Πατρί. Father. ὑμεῖς You προσκυνεῖτε worship ὅ what οὐ not οἴδατε· you know; ἡμεῖς we προσκυνοῦμεν worship ὅ what οἴδαμεν, we know, ὅτι for ἡ - σωτηρία salvation ἐκ of τῶν the Ἰουδαίων Jews ἐστίν. is. ἀλλά But ἔρχεται is coming ὥρα an hour καί and νῦν now ἐστίν, is, ὅτε when οἱ the ἀληθινοί true προσκυνηταί worshipers προσκυνήσουσιν will worship τῷ the Πατρί Father ἐν in πνεύματι spirit καί and ἀληθείᾳ· truth; καί also γάρ for ὁ the Πατήρ Father τοιούτους such ζητεῖ seeks, τούς who προσκυνοῦντας worship αὐτόν. Καί And ἐπί upon τούτῳ this ἦλθαν came οἱ the μαθηταί disciples αὐτοῦ of Him, καί and ἐθαύμαζον were amazed ὅτι that μετά with γυναικός a woman ἐλάλει· He was speaking; οὐδείς no one μέντοι however εἶπεν· said, Τί What ζητεῖς seek You? ἤ Or Τί Why λαλεῖς speak You μετ ̓ with αὐτῆς; her? Ἀφῆκεν Left οὖν then τήν the ὑδρίαν water pot αὐτῆς of her ἡ the γυνή woman, καί and ἀπῆλθεν went away εἰς into τήν the πόλιν city, καί and λέγει says τοῖς to the ἀνθρώποις· men, Δεῦτε Come, ἴδετε see ἄνθρωπον a man ὅς who εἶπεν told μοι me πάντα all things ὅσα whatever ἐποίησα, I did. μήτι Can it be [that] οὗτος this ἐστίν is ὁ the Χριστός; Christ? ἐξῆλθον They went forth ἐκ out of τῆς the πόλεως city καί and ἤρχοντο were coming πρός unto αὐτόν. ἐν But in τῷ the μεταξύ meantime ἠρώτων were asking αὐτόν Him οἱ the μαθηταί disciples, λέγοντες· saying, Ῥαββί, Rabbi, φάγε. eat. ὁ - δέ But εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Ἐγώ I βρῶσιν food ἔχω have φαγεῖν to eat ἥν that ὑμεῖς you οὐ not οἴδατε. know. Ἔλεγον Were saying οὖν therefore οἱ the μαθηταί disciples πρός to ἀλλήλους· one another, Μή No τὶς one ἤνεγκεν did bring αὐτῷ Him φαγεῖν; [anything] to eat? Μετά After δέ then τάς the δύο two ἡμέρας days, ἐξῆλθεν He went forth ἐκεῖθεν from there εἰς into τήν - Γαλιλαίαν· Galilee. αὐτός Himself γάρ for Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐμαρτύρησεν testified ὅτι that προφήτης a prophet ἐν in τῇ the ἰδίᾳ own πατρίδι hometown, τιμήν honor οὐ not ἔχει. has. ὅτε When οὖν therefore ἦλθεν He came εἰς into τήν - Γαλιλαίαν, Galilee, ἐδέξαντο received αὐτόν Him οἱ the Γαλιλαῖοι Galileans, πάντα all things ἑωρακότες having seen ὅσα how great ἐποίησεν He had done ἐν in Ἱεροσολύμοις Jerusalem ἐν during τῇ the ἑορτῇ, feast; καί also αὐτοί themselves γάρ for ἦλθον they had gone εἰς to τήν the ἑορτήν. feast.

Ἦλθεν He came οὖν therefore πάλιν again εἰς to τήν - Κανά Cana τῆς - Γαλιλαίας, of Galilee, ὅπου where ἐποίησεν He had made τό the ὕδωρ water οἶνον. wine.

Καί And ἦν there was τὶς a certain βασιλικός royal official οὗ whose ὁ - υἱός son ἠσθένει was sick ἐν in Καφαρναούμ. Capernaum. οὗτος He, ἀκούσας having heard ὅτι that Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἥκει had come ἐκ out of τῆς - Ἰουδαίας Judea εἰς into τήν - Γαλιλαίαν Galilee, ἀπῆλθεν went πρός to αὐτόν Him καί and ἠρώτα was asking ἵνα that καταβῇ He would come down καί and ἰάσηται heal αὐτοῦ his τόν - υἱόν, son; ἤμελλεν he was about γάρ for ἀποθνήσκειν. to die. Εἶπεν Said οὖν therefore ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus πρός to αὐτόν· him, Ἐάν If μή not σημεῖα signs καί and τέρατα wonders ἴδητε, you people see, οὐ no μή not πιστεύσητε. will you believe. Λέγει Says πρός to αὐτόν Him ὁ the βασιλικός· royal official, Κύριε, Sir, κατάβηθι come down πρίν before ἀποθανεῖν dies τό the παιδίον child μου. of me. Ἐπίστευσεν Believed ὁ the ἄνθρωπος man τῷ the λόγῳ word ὅν that εἶπεν said αὐτῷ to him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus, καί and ἐπορεύετο. he went on his way. ἤδη Already δέ then αὐτοῦ [as] he καταβαίνοντος is going down, οἱ the δοῦλοι servants αὐτοῦ of him ὑπήντησαν met αὐτῷ him, λέγοντες saying ὅτι that ὁ the παῖς boy αὐτοῦ of him ζῇ. lives. Ἐπύθετο He inquired οὖν therefore τήν the ὥραν hour παρ ̓ from αὐτῶν them ἐν in ᾗ which κομψότερον better ἔσχεν· he got. εἶπαν They said οὖν therefore αὐτῷ to him ὅτι -, Ἐχθές Yesterday ὥραν [at the] hour ἑβδόμην seventh, ἀφῆκεν left αὐτόν him ὁ the πυρετός. fever. Ἔγνω Knew οὖν therefore ὁ the πατήρ father ὅτι that [it was] ἐν in ἐκείνῃ that τῇ the ὥρᾳ hour ἐν at ᾗ which εἶπεν said αὐτῷ to him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, ὁ The υἱός son σου of You ζῇ, lives. καί And ἐπίστευσεν he believed αὐτός himself, καί and ἡ the οἰκία household αὐτοῦ of him ὅλη. all. Τοῦτο This [is] δέ now πάλιν again δεύτερον [the] second σημεῖον sign ἐποίησεν did ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus, ἐλθών having come ἐκ out of τῆς - Ἰουδαίας Judea εἰς into τήν - Γαλιλαίαν. Galilee.

Μετά After ταῦτα these things ἦν there was ἑορτή a feast τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews, καί and ἀνέβη went up Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἰς to Ἱεροσόλυμα. Jerusalem.

Ἔστιν There is δέ now ἐν in τοῖς - Ἱεροσολύμοις Jerusalem ἐπί by τῇ the προβατικῇ Sheep Gate κολυμβήθρα a pool, ἡ - ἐπιλεγομένη called Ἑβραϊστί in Hebrew Βηθζαθά Bethesda, πέντε five στοάς porches ἔχουσα. having. ἐν In ταύταις these κατέκειτο were lying πλῆθος a multitude τῶν of those ἀσθενούντων, ailing, τυφλῶν, blind, χωλῶν, lame, ξηρῶν. paralyzed. Ἦν Was δέ now τὶς a certain ἄνθρωπος man ἐκεῖ there, τριάκοντα thirty καί and ὀκτώ eight ἔτη years ἔχων being ἐν in τῇ - ἀσθενείᾳ infirmity αὐτοῦ· himself. τοῦτον Him ἰδών having seen ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus κατακείμενον lying, καί and γνούς having known ὅτι that πολύν a long ἤδη already χρόνον time ἔχει, he has been, λέγει He says αὐτῷ· to him, Θέλεις Desire you ὑγιής well γενέσθαι; to become? Ἀπεκρίθη Answered αὐτῷ Him ὁ the [one] ἀσθενῶν· ailing, Κύριε, Sir, ἄνθρωπον a man οὐ not ἔχω I have, ἵνα that ὅταν when ταραχθῇ has been stirred τό the ὕδωρ water, βάλῃ he might put με me εἰς into τήν the κολυμβήθραν· pool, ἐν in ᾧ which δέ now ἔρχομαι am going ἐγώ, I, ἄλλος another πρό before ἐμοῦ me καταβαίνει. descends. Καί And εὐθέως immediately ἐγένετο became ὑγιής well ὁ the ἄνθρωπος man, καί and ἦρεν he took up τόν the κράβαττον mat αὐτοῦ of him καί and περιεπάτει. began to walk.

Ἦν It was δέ now σάββατον Sabbath ἐν on ἐκείνῃ that τῇ - ἡμέρᾳ. day. ἔλεγον Were saying οὖν therefore οἱ the Ἰουδαῖοι Jews τῷ to the [one] τεθεραπευμένῳ· having been healed, Σάββατον Sabbath ἐστίν, it is, καί and οὐ not ἔξεστιν it is lawful σοι for you ἆραι to take up τόν the κράβαττον mat σου. of you, ὁ who δέ however ἀπεκρίθη answered αὐτοῖς· them, ὁ The [One] ποιήσας having made με me ὑγιῆ well, ἐκεῖνος that One μοι to me εἶπεν· said, Ἆρον Take up τόν the κράβαττον mat σου of you καί and περιπάτει. walk. Ἠρώτησαν They asked αὐτόν· him, Τίς Who ἐστίν is ὁ the ἄνθρωπος man ὁ - εἰπών having said σοι· to you, Ἆρον Take up καί and περιπάτει; walk?’ ὁ The [one] δέ now ἰαθείς having been healed οὐ not ᾔδει knew τίς who ἐστίν, it is, ὁ - γάρ for Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐξένευσεν had moved away, ὄχλου a crowd ὄντος being ἐν in τῷ the τόπῳ. place. Μετά After ταῦτα these things εὑρίσκει finds αὐτόν him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple καί and εἶπεν said αὐτῷ· to him, Ἴδε Behold, ὑγιής well γέγονας, you have become; μηκέτι no more ἁμάρτανε, sin, ἵνα that μή not χεῖρον worse σοί to you τὶ something γένηται. happens. ἀπῆλθεν Went away ὁ the ἄνθρωπος man καί and ἀνήγγειλεν told τοῖς the Ἰουδαίοις Jews ὅτι that Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐστίν it is ὁ the [One] ποιήσας having made αὐτόν him ὑγιῆ. well. Καί And διά because of τοῦτο this, ἐδίωκον were persecuting οἱ the Ἰουδαῖοι Jews τόν - Ἰησοῦν, Jesus, ὅτι because ταῦτα these things ἐποίει He was doing ἐν on σαββάτῳ. [the] Sabbath.

ὁ - δέ But Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἀπεκρίνατο answered αὐτοῖς· them, ὁ The Πατήρ Father μου of Me ἕως until ἄρτι now ἐργάζεται is working, κἀγώ and I ἐργάζομαι· am working. Διά Because of τοῦτο this οὖν therefore, μᾶλλον the more ἐζήτουν were seeking αὐτόν Him οἱ the Ἰουδαῖοι Jews ἀποκτεῖναι, to kill, ὅτι because οὐ not μόνον only ἔλυεν was He breaking τό the σάββατον, Sabbath, ἀλλά but καί also Πατέρα Father ἴδιον His own ἔλεγεν He was calling τόν - Θεόν God, ἴσον equal ἑαυτόν Himself ποιῶν making τῷ to Θεῷ. God.

Ἀπεκρίνατο Answered οὖν therefore ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus καί and ἔλεγεν was saying αὐτοῖς· to them, Ἀμήν Truly, ἀμήν truly, λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, οὐ not δύναται is able ὁ the Υἱός Son ποιεῖν to do ἀφ ̓ of ἑαυτοῦ Himself οὐδέν nothing, ἐάν if μή not τὶ anything βλέπῃ He might see τόν the Πατέρα Father ποιοῦντα· doing; ἅ whatever γάρ for ἄν - ἐκεῖνος He ποιῇ, does, ταῦτα these things καί also ὁ the Υἱός Son ὁμοίως likewise ποιεῖ. does. ὁ - γάρ For Πατήρ the Father φιλεῖ loves τόν the Υἱόν Son, καί and πάντα all things δείκνυσιν shows αὐτῷ to Him ἅ that αὐτός He ποιεῖ, does; καί and μείζονα greater τούτων than these δείξει He will show αὐτῷ Him ἔργα, works, ἵνα so that ὑμεῖς you θαυμάζητε. may marvel. Ὥσπερ Even as γάρ for ὁ the Πατήρ Father ἐγείρει raises up τούς the νεκρούς dead καί and ζωοποιεῖ, gives life, οὕτως thus καί also ὁ the Υἱός Son οὕς to whom θέλει He will, ζωοποιεῖ. gives life. οὐδέ Not even γάρ for ὁ the Πατήρ Father κρίνει judges οὐδένα, no one, ἀλλά but τήν - κρίσιν judgment πᾶσαν all δέδωκεν has given τῷ to the Υἱῷ, Son, ἵνα so that πάντες all τιμῶσι may honor τόν the Υἱόν Son, καθώς even as τιμῶσι they honor τόν the Πατέρα. Father. ὁ He who μή not τιμῶν is honoring τόν the Υἱόν Son, οὐ not τιμᾷ is honoring τόν the Πατέρα Father, τόν the [One] πέμψαντα having sent αὐτόν. Him.

Ἀμήν Truly, ἀμήν truly λέγω I say ὑμῖν to you ὅτι that ὁ the [one] τόν the λόγον word μου of Me ἀκούων hearing, καί and πιστεύων believing τῷ the [One] πέμψαντι having sent με Me, ἔχει he has ζωήν life αἰώνιον eternal καί and εἰς into κρίσιν judgment οὐ not ἔρχεται, comes, ἀλλά but μεταβέβηκεν has passed ἐκ out of τοῦ - θανάτου death εἰς into τήν - ζωήν. life.
