ὡς When οὖν therefore ἔγνω knew ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ὅτι that ἤκουσαν heard οἱ the Φαρισαῖοι Pharisees ὅτι that Ἰησοῦς Jesus πλείονας more μαθητάς disciples ποιεῖ makes καί and βαπτίζει baptizes ἤ than Ἰωάννης— John καίτοιγε although indeed Ἰησοῦς Jesus αὐτός Himself οὐ not ἐβάπτιζεν was baptizing, ἀλλ ̓ but οἱ the μαθηταί disciples αὐτοῦ— of Him ἀφῆκεν He left τήν - Ἰουδαίαν Judea, καί and ἀπῆλθεν went away πάλιν again εἰς into τήν - Γαλιλαίαν. Ἔδει It was necessary for δέ now αὐτόν Him διέρχεσθαι to pass διά through τῆς - Σαμαρείας. Λέγει Says οὖν therefore αὐτῷ to Him ἡ the γυνή woman ἡ - Σαμαρῖτις· Samaritan, Πῶς How σύ You Ἰουδαῖος a Jew ὤν being, παρ ̓ from ἐμοῦ me πεῖν to drink αἰτεῖς do ask, γυναικός a woman Σαμαρίτιδος Samaritan οὔσης; being? οὐ Not γάρ for συνχρῶνται have association Ἰουδαῖοι Jews Σαμαρίταις. with Samaritans. Ἀπεκρίθη Answered Ἰησοῦς Jesus καί and εἶπεν said αὐτῇ· to her, εἰ If ᾔδεις you had known τήν the δωρεάν gift τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God, καί and τίς who ἐστίν it is ὁ - λέγων saying σοι· to you, Δός Give μοι Me πεῖν, to drink, σύ you ἄν - ᾔτησας would have asked αὐτόν Him, καί and ἔδωκεν He would have given ἄν - σοι to you ὕδωρ water ζῶν. living. Λέγει Says αὐτῇ to her ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Καλῶς Correctly εἶπας you have spoken ὅτι -, Ἄνδρα A husband οὐ not ἔχω· I have. πέντε Five γάρ for ἄνδρας husbands ἔσχες you have had, καί and νῦν now ὅν he whom ἔχεις you have, οὐ not ἔστιν is σου your ἀνήρ· husband; τοῦτο this ἀληθές truly εἴρηκας. you have spoken. Λέγει Says αὐτῷ to Him ἡ the γυνή· woman, Κύριε, Sir, θεωρῶ I understand ὅτι that προφήτης a prophet εἶ are σύ. You. οἱ The πατέρες fathers ἡμῶν of us ἐν on τῷ the ὄρει mountain τούτῳ this προσεκύνησαν· worshiped, καί and ὑμεῖς you λέγετε say ὅτι that ἐν in Ἱεροσολύμοις Jerusalem ἐστίν is ὁ the τόπος place ὅπου where προσκυνεῖν to worship δεῖ. it is necessary. Καί And ἐπί upon τούτῳ this ἦλθαν came οἱ the μαθηταί disciples αὐτοῦ of Him, καί and ἐθαύμαζον were amazed ὅτι that μετά with γυναικός a woman ἐλάλει· He was speaking; οὐδείς no one μέντοι however εἶπεν· said, Τί What ζητεῖς seek You? ἤ Or Τί Why λαλεῖς speak You μετ ̓ with αὐτῆς; her? Ἀφῆκεν Left οὖν then τήν the ὑδρίαν water pot αὐτῆς of her ἡ the γυνή woman, καί and ἀπῆλθεν went away εἰς into τήν the πόλιν city, καί and λέγει says τοῖς to the ἀνθρώποις· men, Δεῦτε Come, ἴδετε see ἄνθρωπον a man ὅς who εἶπεν told μοι me πάντα all things ὅσα whatever ἐποίησα, I did. μήτι Can it be [that] οὗτος this ἐστίν is ὁ the Χριστός; Christ? ἐξῆλθον They went forth ἐκ out of τῆς the πόλεως city καί and ἤρχοντο were coming πρός unto αὐτόν. ἐν But in τῷ the μεταξύ meantime ἠρώτων were asking αὐτόν Him οἱ the μαθηταί disciples, λέγοντες· saying, Ῥαββί, Rabbi, φάγε. eat. ὁ - δέ But εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Ἐγώ I βρῶσιν food ἔχω have φαγεῖν to eat ἥν that ὑμεῖς you οὐ not οἴδατε. know. Ἔλεγον Were saying οὖν therefore οἱ the μαθηταί disciples πρός to ἀλλήλους· one another, Μή No τὶς one ἤνεγκεν did bring αὐτῷ Him φαγεῖν; [anything] to eat?
