καί And πάντες all οἱ the συμπαραγενόμενοι having come together ὄχλοι crowds ἐπί to τήν the θεωρίαν spectacle ταύτην, this, θεωρήσαντες having seen τά the things γενόμενα, having taken place, τύπτοντες beating τά the στήθη breasts ὑπέστρεφον. were returning [home]. εἱστήκεισαν Stood δέ now πάντες all οἱ those who γνωστοί knew αὐτῷ Him ἀπό from μακρόθεν afar off, καί also γυναῖκες women, αἱ those συνακολουθοῦσαι having followed αὐτῷ Him ἀπό from τῆς - Γαλιλαίας Galilee, ὁρῶσαι beholding ταῦτα. these things.
Καί And ἰδού behold, ἀνήρ a man ὀνόματι named Ἰωσήφ Joseph, βουλευτής a Council member, ὑπάρχων being καί also ἀνήρ a man ἀγαθός good καί and δίκαιος— righteous, οὗτος he οὐ not ἦν was συνκατατεθειμένος having consented τῇ to the βουλῇ counsel καί and τῇ the πράξει deed αὐτῶν— of them, ἀπό from Ἁριμαθαίας Arimathea, πόλεως a city τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων, Jews, ὅς who προσεδέχετο was waiting for τήν the βασιλείαν kingdom τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God. οὗτος He προσελθών having gone τῷ - Πιλάτῳ to Pilate, ᾐτήσατο asked [for] τό the σῶμα body τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ of Jesus. καί And καθελών having taken it down, ἐνετύλιξεν he wrapped αὐτό it σινδόνι in a linen cloth καί and ἔθηκεν placed αὐτόν it ἐν in μνήματι a tomb λαξευτῷ cut in a rock, οὗ in which οὐ no ἦν had been οὐδείς no one οὔπω not yet κείμενος. laid. καί And ἡμέρα [the] Day ἦν it was Παρασκευῆς of Preparation, καί and σάββατον Sabbath ἐπέφωσκεν. was just beginning.
Κατακολουθήσασαι Having followed δέ then, αἱ the γυναῖκες, women αἵτινες who ἦσαν were συνεληλυθυῖαι come ἐκ out of τῆς - Γαλιλαίας Galilee αὐτῷ, with Him, ἐθεάσαντο saw τό the μνημεῖον tomb καί and ὡς how ἐτέθη was laid τό the σῶμα body αὐτοῦ, of Him. ὑποστρέψασαι Having returned δέ then, ἡτοίμασαν they prepared ἀρώματα spices καί and μύρα. anointing oils. Καί And τό on the μέν indeed σάββατον Sabbath ἡσύχασαν they rested κατά according to τήν the ἐντολήν. commandment.
Τῇ The δέ however μιᾷ first [day] τῶν of the σαββάτων week, ὄρθρου dawn βαθέως very early, ἐπί to τό the μνῆμα tomb ἦλθον they came, φέρουσαι bringing ἅ that ἡτοίμασαν they had prepared ἀρώματα. spices. εὗρον They found δέ then τόν the λίθον stone ἀποκεκυλισμένον having been rolled away ἀπό from τοῦ the μνημείου, tomb. εἰσελθοῦσαι Having entered δέ however, οὐ not εὗρον they found τό the σῶμα body τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord Ἰησοῦ. Jesus. καί And ἐγένετο it came to pass ἐν while τῷ - ἀπορεῖσθαι are perplexed αὐτάς they περί about τούτου this, καί that ἰδού behold, ἄνδρες men δύο two ἐπέστησαν stood by αὐταῖς them ἐν in ἐσθῆτι garments ἀστραπτούσῃ. dazzling. ἐμφόβων Terrified δέ then γενομένων having become αὐτῶν of them καί and κλινουσῶν bowing τά the πρόσωπα faces εἰς to τήν the γῆν ground, εἶπαν they said πρός to αὐτάς· them, Τί Why ζητεῖτε seek you τόν the ζῶντα living μετά among τῶν the νεκρῶν; dead? οὐ Not ἔστιν He is ὧδε, here, ἀλλά but ἠγέρθη. He is risen! μνήσθητε Remember ὡς how ἐλάλησεν He spoke ὑμῖν to you, ἔτι yet ὤν being ἐν in τῇ - Γαλιλαίᾳ Galilee, λέγων saying, Τόν The Υἱόν Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man ὅτι - δεῖ it behooves παραδοθῆναι to be delivered εἰς into χεῖρας hands ἀνθρώπων of men ἁμαρτωλῶν sinful, καί and σταυρωθῆναι to be crucified, καί and τῇ the τρίτῃ third ἡμέρᾳ day ἀναστῆναι. to arise. Καί And ἐμνήσθησαν they remembered τῶν the ῥημάτων words αὐτοῦ. of Him.
καί And ὑποστρέψασαι having returned ἀπό from τοῦ the μνημείου tomb, ἀπήγγειλαν they related ταῦτα these things πάντα all τοῖς to the ἕνδεκα eleven καί and πᾶσιν to all τοῖς the λοιποῖς. rest. ἦσαν It was δέ now ἡ - Μαγδαληνή Magdalene Μαρία Mary, καί and Ἰωάννα Joanna, καί and Μαρία Mary ἡ the [mother] Ἰακώβου of James, καί and αἱ the λοιπαί other women σύν with αὐταῖς. them, ἔλεγον telling πρός to τούς the ἀποστόλους apostles ταῦτα, these things. καί And ἐφάνησαν appeared ἐνώπιον before αὐτῶν them ὡσεί like λῆρος folly τά the ῥήματα words ταῦτα, of them, καί and ἠπίστουν they did not believe αὐταῖς. them. ὁ - δέ But Πέτρος Peter, ἀναστάς having risen up, ἔδραμεν ran ἐπί to τό the μνημεῖον tomb, καί and παρακύψας having stooped down, βλέπει he sees τά the ὀθόνια linen strips μόνα, only, καί and ἀπῆλθεν he went away, πρός in ἑαυτόν himself θαυμάζων wondering at τό that γεγονός. having come to pass.
Καί And ἰδού behold, δύο two ἐκ of αὐτῶν them ἐν on αὐτῇ same τῇ the ἡμέρᾳ day ἦσαν were πορευόμενοι going εἰς to κώμην a village ἀπέχουσαν being distant, σταδίους stadia ἑξήκοντα sixty ἀπό from Ἰερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem, ᾗ whose ὄνομα name [is] Ἐμμαοῦς, Emmaus; καί and αὐτοί they ὡμίλουν were talking πρός with ἀλλήλους one another περί about πάντων all τῶν - συμβεβηκότων having taken place τούτων. these things. καί And ἐγένετο it came to pass ἐν in τῷ the ὁμιλεῖν talking αὐτούς of them καί and συζητεῖν reasoning, καί that αὐτός Himself Ἰησοῦς Jesus, ἐγγίσας having drawn near, συνεπορεύετο was walking along with αὐτοῖς, them; οἱ - δέ but ὀφθαλμοί the eyes αὐτῶν of them ἐκρατοῦντο were held τοῦ - μή not ἐπιγνῶναι to know αὐτόν. Him. Εἶπεν He said δέ then πρός to αὐτούς· them, Τίνες What οἱ - λόγοι words [are] οὗτοι these οὕς that ἀντιβάλλετε you exchange πρός with ἀλλήλους one another περιπατοῦντες; walking? Καί And εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Ποῖα; What things? οἱ - Δέ And εἶπαν they said αὐτῷ· to Him, Τά The things περί concerning Ἰησοῦ Jesus τοῦ of Ναζαρηνοῦ, Nazareth, ὅς who ἐγένετο was ἀνήρ a man, προφήτης a prophet δυνατός mighty ἐν in ἔργῳ deed καί and λόγῳ word ἐναντίον before τοῦ - Θεοῦ God καί and παντός all τοῦ the λαοῦ, people; ὅπως that τέ then παρέδωκαν delivered up αὐτόν him οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and οἱ the ἄρχοντες rulers ἡμῶν of us εἰς to κρίμα [the] judgment θανάτου of death, καί and ἐσταύρωσαν crucified αὐτόν. Him. ἡμεῖς We δέ however ἠλπίζομεν were hoping ὅτι - αὐτός He ἐστίν it is ὁ who μέλλων is about λυτροῦσθαι to redeem τόν - Ἰσραήλ· Israel. ἀλλά But γέ indeed καί also σύν with πᾶσιν all τούτοις these things, τρίτην [the] third ταύτην this ἡμέραν day ἄγει brings, ἀφ ̓ away from οὗ which ταῦτα these things ἐγένετο. came to pass. Ἀλλά However καί also γυναῖκες women τινές certain ἐκ out from ἡμῶν us ἐξέστησαν astonished ἡμᾶς, us. γενόμεναι Having been ὀρθριναί early ἐπί to τό the μνημεῖον, tomb καί and μή not εὑροῦσαι having found τό the σῶμα body αὐτοῦ of Him, ἦλθον they came λέγουσαι declaring καί also ὀπτασίαν a vision ἀγγέλων of angels ἑωρακέναι, to have seen, οἵ who λέγουσιν say αὐτόν He ζῆν. is alive. καί And ἀπῆλθον went τινές some τῶν of those σύν with ἡμῖν us ἐπί to τό the μνημεῖον tomb καί and εὗρον found [it] οὕτως so, καθώς as καί also αἱ the γυναῖκες women εἶπον, said; αὐτόν Him δέ however οὐ not εἶδον. they saw. Καί And αὐτός He εἶπεν said πρός to αὐτούς· them, Ὦ O ἀνόητοι foolish καί and βραδεῖς slow τῇ - καρδίᾳ of heart τοῦ - πιστεύειν to believe ἐπί in πᾶσιν all οἷς that ἐλάλησαν have spoken οἱ the προφῆται· prophets. οὐχί Not ταῦτα these things ἔδει was it necessary for παθεῖν to suffer τόν the Χριστόν Christ καί and εἰσελθεῖν to enter εἰς into τήν the δόξαν glory αὐτοῦ; of Him? καί And ἀρξάμενος having begun ἀπό from Μωϋσέως Moses καί and ἀπό from πάντων all τῶν the προφητῶν Prophets, διερμήνευσεν He interpreted αὐτοῖς to them ἐν in πάσαις all ταῖς the γραφαῖς Scriptures τά the things περί concerning ἑαυτοῦ. Καί And ἤγγισαν they drew near εἰς to τήν the κώμην village οὗ where ἐπορεύοντο, they were going, καί and αὐτός He προσεποιήσατο appeared πορρώτερον farther πορεύεσθαι. to be going. καί And παρεβιάσαντο they constrained αὐτόν Him, λέγοντες· saying, Μεῖνον Abide μεθ ̓ with ἡμῶν, us, ὅτι for πρός toward ἑσπέραν evening ἐστίν it is, καί and κέκλικεν has declined ἤδη now ἡ the ἡμέρα. day. Καί And εἰσῆλθεν He entered in τοῦ - μεῖναι to abide σύν with αὐτοῖς. them. καί And ἐγένετο it came to pass ἐν in τῷ the κατακλιθῆναι reclining αὐτόν of Him μετ ̓ with αὐτῶν them, λαβών having taken τόν the ἄρτον bread εὐλόγησεν He blessed [it], καί and κλάσας having broken [it], ἐπεδίδου He began giving [it] αὐτοῖς, to them. αὐτῶν Of them δέ then διηνοίχθησαν were opened οἱ the ὀφθαλμοί eyes, καί and ἐπέγνωσαν they knew αὐτόν· Him. καί And αὐτός He ἄφαντος vanished ἐγένετο being seen ἀπ ̓ from αὐτῶν. them. Καί And εἶπαν they said πρός to ἀλλήλους· one another, Οὐχί Not ἡ the καρδία heart ἡμῶν of us καιομένη burning ἦν was ἐν within ἡμῖν us ὡς as ἐλάλει He was speaking ἡμῖν with us ἐν on τῇ the ὁδῷ, road, ὡς as διήνοιγεν He was opening ἡμῖν to us τάς the γραφάς; Scriptures?
Καί And ἀναστάντες having risen up αὐτῇ [that] same τῇ - ὥρᾳ hour, ὑπέστρεψαν they returned εἰς to Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem, καί and εὗρον they found ἠθροισμένους gathered together τούς the ἕνδεκα eleven καί and τούς those σύν with αὐτοῖς, them, λέγοντας saying ὅτι -, Ὄντως Indeed ἠγέρθη has risen ὁ the Κύριος Lord καί and ὤφθη He has appeared Σίμωνι. to Simon. Καί And αὐτοί they ἐξηγοῦντο began relating τά the things ἐν on τῇ the ὁδῷ road, καί and ὡς how ἐγνώσθη He was known αὐτοῖς to them ἐν in τῇ the κλάσει breaking τοῦ of the ἄρτου. bread.
Ταῦτα These things δέ now αὐτῶν of them λαλούντων as they were telling, αὐτός He Himself ἔστη stood ἐν in μέσῳ midst αὐτῶν of them καί and λέγει says αὐτοῖς· to them, Εἰρήνη Peace ὑμῖν. to you. πτοηθέντες Having been terrified δέ however, καί and ἔμφοβοι filled with fear γενόμενοι having been, ἐδόκουν they were thinking [themselves] πνεῦμα a spirit θεωρεῖν. to see. Καί And εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Τί Why τεταραγμένοι troubled ἐστέ are you, καί and διά through τί why διαλογισμοί doubts ἀναβαίνουσιν do come up ἐν in τῇ the καρδίᾳ hearts ὑμῶν; of you? ἴδετε See τάς the χεῖρας hands μου of Me καί and τούς the πόδας feet μου of Me, ὅτι that ἐγώ I εἰμί am αὐτός· He. ψηλαφήσατε Touch με Me καί and ἴδετε, see, ὅτι for πνεῦμα a spirit σάρκα flesh καί and ὀστέα bones οὐ not ἔχει has, καθώς as ἐμέ Me θεωρεῖτε you see ἔχοντα. having. καί And τοῦτο this εἰπών having said, ἔδειξεν He showed αὐτοῖς to them τάς the χεῖρας hands καί and τούς the πόδας. feet. Ἔτι Still δέ now, ἀπιστούντων while they were disbelieving αὐτῶν of them ἀπό for τῆς the χαρᾶς joy καί and θαυμαζόντων amazement, εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Ἔχετε Have you τὶ anything βρώσιμον to eat ἐνθάδε; here? οἱ - δέ And ἐπέδωκαν they gave αὐτῷ to Him ἰχθύος of a fish ὀπτοῦ broiled μέρος· part. καί And λαβών having taken [it], ἐνώπιον before αὐτῶν them ἔφαγεν. He ate [it].
Εἶπεν He said δέ now πρός unto αὐτούς· to them, Οὗτοι These [are] οἱ the λόγοι words μου of me, οὕς which ἐλάλησα I spoke πρός to ὑμᾶς you ἔτι still ὤν being σύν with ὑμῖν, you, ὅτι that δεῖ it behooves πληρωθῆναι to be fulfilled πάντα all things τά - γεγραμμένα having been written ἐν in τῷ the νόμῳ law Μωϋσέως of Moses, καί and τοῖς the προφήταις Prophets καί and ψαλμοῖς [the] Psalms περί concerning ἐμοῦ. Me. τότε Then διήνοιξεν He opened αὐτῶν their τόν - νοῦν mind τοῦ - συνιέναι to understand τάς the γραφάς· Scriptures. Καί And εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς to them ὅτι -, Οὕτως Thus γέγραπται it has been written: παθεῖν Was to suffer τόν the Χριστόν Christ, καί and ἀναστῆναι to rise ἐκ out from νεκρῶν [the] dead τῇ the τρίτῃ third ἡμέρᾳ, day; καί and κηρυχθῆναι to be proclaimed ἐπί in τῷ the ὀνόματι name αὐτοῦ of Him μετάνοιαν repentance εἰς and ἄφεσιν forgiveness ἁμαρτιῶν of sins εἰς to πάντα all τά - ἔθνη. nations, ἀρξάμενοι having begun ἀπό from Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem. ὑμεῖς You [are] μάρτυρες witnesses τούτων. of these things. Καί And ἰδού behold, ἐγώ I ἀποστέλλω am sending τήν the ἐπαγγελίαν promise τοῦ of the Πατρός Father μου of Me ἐφ ̓ upon ὑμᾶς· you; ὑμεῖς you δέ however καθίσατε remain ἐν in τῇ the πόλει city ἕως until οὗ that ἐνδύσησθε you should be clothed with ἐκ from ὕψους on high δύναμιν. power.
Ἐξήγαγεν He led δέ now αὐτούς them ἔξω out ἕως as far as πρός to Βηθανίαν, Bethany, καί and ἐπάρας having lifted up τάς the χεῖρας hands αὐτοῦ of Him, εὐλόγησεν He blessed αὐτούς. them. καί And ἐγένετο it came to pass ἐν in τῷ the εὐλογεῖν blessing αὐτόν of Him αὐτούς them, διέστη He was separated ἀπ ̓ from αὐτῶν them καί and ἀνεφέρετο was carried up εἰς into τόν - οὐρανόν. heaven.
καί And αὐτοί they προσκυνήσαντες having worshiped αὐτόν Him, ὑπέστρεψαν returned εἰς to Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem μετά with χαρᾶς joy μεγάλης great, καί and ἦσαν were διά continually παντός all ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple, εὐλογοῦντες blessing τόν - Θεόν. God.
