οἱ - δέ And εἶπαν· they said, Τί What ἔτι any more ἔχομεν have we μαρτυρίας of witness χρείαν; need? αὐτοί We ourselves γάρ for ἠκούσαμεν have heard [it] ἀπό from τοῦ the στόματος mouth αὐτοῦ. of Him.
Καί And ἀναστάν having risen up, ἅπαν all τό the πλῆθος multitude αὐτῶν of them ἤγαγον led αὐτόν Him ἐπί to τόν - Πιλᾶτον. Pilate.

Πιλᾶτος Pilate δέ now ἀκούσας having heard, ἐπηρώτησεν asked εἰ whether ὁ the ἄνθρωπος man Γαλιλαῖος a Galilean ἐστίν, is, καί and ἐπιγνούς having learned ὅτι that ἐκ from τῆς the ἐξουσίας jurisdiction Ἡρῴδου of Herod ἐστίν He is, ἀνέπεμψεν he sent up αὐτόν Him πρός to Ἡρῴδην, Herod, ὄντα being καί also αὐτόν he himself ἐν in Ἱεροσολύμοις Jerusalem ἐν in ταύταις those ταῖς - ἡμέραις. days.
ὁ - δέ And Ἡρῴδης Herod, ἰδών having seen τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus, ἐχάρη [was] glad λίαν, exceedingly; ἦν he was γάρ for ἐκ of ἱκανῶν a long χρόνων time θέλων wishing ἰδεῖν to see αὐτόν Him, διά because of τό - ἀκούειν hearing περί concerning αὐτοῦ Him; καί and ἤλπιζεν he was hoping τὶ some σημεῖον sign ἰδεῖν to see ὑπ ̓ by αὐτοῦ Him γινόμενον. done. ἐπηρώτα He kept questioning δέ then αὐτόν Him ἐν in λόγοις words ἱκανοῖς, many; αὐτός He δέ however οὐδέν nothing ἀπεκρίνατο answered αὐτῷ. him. Εἱστήκεισαν Had been standing by δέ now οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and οἱ the γραμματεῖς scribes, εὐτόνως vehemently κατηγοροῦντες accusing αὐτοῦ. Him. ἐξουθενήσας Having set at naught δέ then αὐτόν Him, καί also ὁ - Ἡρῴδης Herod σύν with τοῖς the στρατεύμασιν troops αὐτοῦ of him, καί and ἐμπαίξας having mocked [Him], περιβαλών having put on [Him] ἐσθῆτα apparel λαμπράν splendid, ἀνέπεμψεν sent back αὐτόν him τῷ to Πιλάτῳ. Pilate. Ἐγένοντο Became δέ then φίλοι friends ὅ - τέ both Ἡρῴδης Herod καί and ὁ - Πιλᾶτος Pilate ἐν on αὐτῇ that τῇ - ἡμέρᾳ day μετ ̓ with ἀλλήλων· one another; προϋπῆρχον previously it had been that γάρ for ἐν at ἔχθρᾳ enmity ὄντες they were πρός between αὑτούς. themselves.
Πιλᾶτος Pilate δέ then, συνκαλεσάμενος having called together τούς the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and τούς the ἄρχοντας rulers καί and τόν the λαόν people, εἶπεν said πρός to αὐτούς· them, Προσηνέγκατε You brought μοι to me τόν the ἄνθρωπον man τοῦτον this, ὡς as ἀποστρέφοντα misleading τόν the λαόν, people; καί and ἰδού behold, ἐγώ I ἐνώπιον before ὑμῶν you ἀνακρίνας having examined [Him], οὐθέν nothing εὗρον found ἐν in τῷ the ἀνθρώπῳ man τούτῳ this αἴτιον guilty ὧν of that κατηγορεῖτε accusation you are bringing κατ ̓ against αὐτοῦ. Him. ἀλλ ̓ No, οὐδέ not even Ἡρῴδης, Herod [did]; ἀνέπεμψεν he sent back γάρ for αὐτόν Him πρός to ἡμᾶς, us. καί And ἰδού behold, οὐδέν nothing ἄξιον worthy θανάτου of death ἐστίν is πεπραγμένον done αὐτῷ· by Him. παιδεύσας Having chastised οὖν therefore αὐτόν Him, ἀπολύσω. I will release [Him].”
Ἀνέκραγον They cried out δέ however παμπληθεί all together, λέγοντες· saying, Αἶρε Away with τοῦτον, this [man], ἀπόλυσον release δέ now ἡμῖν to us τόν - Βαραββᾶν· Barabbas, ὅστις who ἦν was διά on account of στάσιν insurrection τινά a certain γενομένην having been made ἐν in τῇ the πόλει city, καί and φόνον murder, βληθείς having been cast ἐν into τῇ the φυλακῇ. prison. Πάλιν Again δέ therefore ὁ - Πιλᾶτος Pilate προσεφώνησεν called αὐτοῖς to them, θέλων wishing ἀπολῦσαι to release τόν - Ἰησοῦν. Jesus. οἱ - δέ But ἐπεφώνουν they were crying out, λέγοντες· saying, Σταύρου Crucify, σταύρου crucify αὐτόν. Him. ὁ - δέ And τρίτον a third [time] εἶπεν he said πρός to αὐτούς· them, Τί What γάρ for κακόν evil ἐποίησεν did commit οὗτος; this [man]? οὐδέν No αἴτιον cause θανάτου of death εὗρον found I ἐν in αὐτῷ· Him. παιδεύσας Having chastised οὖν therefore αὐτόν Him, ἀπολύσω. Ἠκολούθει Were following δέ now αὐτῷ Him πολύ a great πλῆθος multitude τοῦ of the λαοῦ people, καί and γυναικῶν of women, αἵ who ἐκόπτοντο were mourning καί and ἐθρήνουν lamenting for αὐτόν. Him. στραφείς Having turned δέ then πρός to αὐτάς them, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν· said, Θυγατέρες Daughters Ἰερουσαλήμ, of Jerusalem, μή not κλαίετε weep ἐπ ̓ for ἐμέ· Me, πλήν but ἐφ ̓ for ἑαυτάς yourselves κλαίετε weep, καί and ἐπί for τά the τέκνα children ὑμῶν, of you. ὅτι For ἰδού behold, ἔρχονται are coming ἡμέραι days ἐν in αἷς which ἐροῦσιν· they will say, Μακάριαι Blessed [are] αἱ the στεῖραι barren, καί and αἱ the κοιλίαι wombs αἵ that οὐ never ἐγέννησαν did bear, καί and μαστοί breasts οἵ that οὐ never ἔθρεψαν. nursed. τότε Then Ἄρξονται They will begin λέγειν to say τοῖς to the ὄρεσιν· mountains, Πέσετε Fall ἐφ ̓ upon ἡμᾶς, us, Καί and τοῖς to the βουνοῖς· hills, Καλύψατε Cover ἡμᾶς· us.”’ Ὅτι For εἰ if ἐν in τῷ the ὑγρῷ green ξύλῳ tree, ταῦτα these things ποιοῦσιν, they do; ἐν in τῷ the ξηρῷ dry, τί what γένηται; might take place?
Ἤγοντο Were being led away δέ now καί also ἕτεροι other κακοῦργοι criminals δύο two, σύν with αὐτῷ Him ἀναιρεθῆναι. to be put to death.
Καί And ὅτε when ἦλθον they came ἐπί to τόν the τόπον place τόν - καλούμενον called Κρανίον, The Skull, ἐκεῖ there ἐσταύρωσαν they crucified αὐτόν Him, καί and τούς the κακούργους, criminals, ὅν one μέν - ἐκ on [the] δεξιῶν right; ὅν one δέ now ἐκ on ἀριστερῶν. [the] left. ὁ - δέ And Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἔλεγεν· was saying, Πάτερ, Father, ἄφες forgive αὐτοῖς, them, οὐ not γάρ for οἴδασιν they know τί what ποιοῦσιν. they do.” διαμεριζόμενοι Dividing δέ then τά the ἱμάτια garments αὐτοῦ of Him, ἔβαλον they cast κλήρους. lots. Ἐνέπαιξαν Mocked δέ then αὐτῷ Him καί also οἱ the στρατιῶται soldiers, προσερχόμενοι, coming near, ὄξος sour wine προσφέροντες offering αὐτῷ Him, καί and λέγοντες· saying, εἰ If σύ You εἶ are ὁ the Βασιλεύς King τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων, Jews, σῶσον save σεαυτόν. Yourself! Ἦν There was δέ now καί also ἐπιγραφή an inscription ἐπ ̓ over αὐτῷ· Him, Ο The ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ King ΤΩΝ of the ΙΟΥΔΑΙΩΝ Jews ΟΥΤΟΣ. This.
Εἷς One δέ now τῶν of the κρεμασθέντων having been hanged κακούργων criminals ἐβλασφήμει was railing at αὐτόν Him, λέγων· saying Οὐχί Not σύ you are εἶ if ὁ the Χριστός; Christ? σῶσον Save σεαυτόν Yourself καί and ἡμᾶς. us! Ἀποκριθείς Answering δέ now, ὁ the ἕτερος other ἐπιτιμῶν was rebuking αὐτῷ him, ἔφη· saying, Οὐδέ Not even φοβῇ do fear σύ you τόν - Θεόν, God, ὅτι that ἐν under τῷ the αὐτῷ same κρίματι judgment εἶ; you are, καί and ἡμεῖς we μέν indeed δικαίως, justly? ἄξια Worthy γάρ for ὧν of what ἐπράξαμεν we did ἀπολαμβάνομεν· we are receiving; οὗτος [this] man δέ however οὐδέν nothing ἄτοπον wrong ἔπραξεν. did. καί And ἔλεγεν· he was saying, Ἰησοῦ, Jesus, μνήσθητι remember μου me ὅταν when ἔλθῃς You come εἰς into τήν the βασιλείαν kingdom σου. of You! Καί And εἶπεν He said αὐτῷ· to him, Ἀμήν Truly σοι to you λέγω, I say, σήμερον today μετ ̓ with ἐμοῦ Me ἔσῃ you will be ἐν in τῷ - Παραδείσῳ. Paradise.
Καί And ἦν it was ἤδη now ὡσεί about ὥρα [the] hour ἕκτη sixth, καί and σκότος darkness ἐγένετο came ἐφ ̓ over ὅλην all τήν the γῆν land ἕως until ὥρας [the] hour ἐνάτης ninth. τοῦ The ἡλίου sun ἐκλιπόντος, was darkened; ἐσχίσθη was torn δέ then τό the καταπέτασμα veil τοῦ of the ναοῦ temple μέσον. in [the] middle. Καί And φωνήσας having called out φωνῇ in a voice μεγάλῃ loud, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν· said, Πάτερ, Father, εἰς into χεῖρας [the] hands σου of You παρατίθεμαι I commit τό the πνεῦμα Spirit μου. of Me.” τοῦτο This δέ now εἰπών having said, ἐξέπνευσεν. He breathed His last.
Ἰδών Having seen δέ now ὁ the ἑκατοντάρχης centurion τό that γενόμενον having taken place, ἐδόξαζεν he began glorifying τόν - Θεόν God, λέγων· saying, Ὄντως Certainly ὁ the ἄνθρωπος man οὗτος this δίκαιος righteous ἦν. was. καί And πάντες all οἱ the συμπαραγενόμενοι having come together ὄχλοι crowds ἐπί to τήν the θεωρίαν spectacle ταύτην, this, θεωρήσαντες having seen τά the things γενόμενα, having taken place, τύπτοντες beating τά the στήθη breasts ὑπέστρεφον. were returning [home]. εἱστήκεισαν Stood δέ now πάντες all οἱ those who γνωστοί knew αὐτῷ Him ἀπό from μακρόθεν afar off, καί also γυναῖκες women, αἱ those συνακολουθοῦσαι having followed αὐτῷ Him ἀπό from τῆς - Γαλιλαίας Galilee, ὁρῶσαι beholding ταῦτα. these things.
Καί And ἰδού behold, ἀνήρ a man ὀνόματι named Ἰωσήφ Joseph, βουλευτής a Council member, ὑπάρχων being καί also ἀνήρ a man ἀγαθός good καί and δίκαιος— righteous, οὗτος he οὐ not ἦν was συνκατατεθειμένος having consented τῇ to the βουλῇ counsel καί and τῇ the πράξει deed αὐτῶν— of them, ἀπό from Ἁριμαθαίας Arimathea, πόλεως a city τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων, Jews, ὅς who προσεδέχετο was waiting for τήν the βασιλείαν kingdom τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God. οὗτος He προσελθών having gone τῷ - Πιλάτῳ to Pilate, ᾐτήσατο asked [for] τό the σῶμα body τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ of Jesus. καί And καθελών having taken it down, ἐνετύλιξεν he wrapped αὐτό it σινδόνι in a linen cloth καί and ἔθηκεν placed αὐτόν it ἐν in μνήματι a tomb λαξευτῷ cut in a rock, οὗ in which οὐ no ἦν had been οὐδείς no one οὔπω not yet κείμενος. laid. καί And ἡμέρα [the] Day ἦν it was Παρασκευῆς of Preparation, καί and σάββατον Sabbath ἐπέφωσκεν. was just beginning.
Κατακολουθήσασαι Having followed δέ then, αἱ the γυναῖκες, women αἵτινες who ἦσαν were συνεληλυθυῖαι come ἐκ out of τῆς - Γαλιλαίας Galilee αὐτῷ, with Him, ἐθεάσαντο saw τό the μνημεῖον tomb καί and ὡς how ἐτέθη was laid τό the σῶμα body αὐτοῦ, of Him. ὑποστρέψασαι Having returned δέ then, ἡτοίμασαν they prepared ἀρώματα spices καί and μύρα. anointing oils. Καί And τό on the μέν indeed σάββατον Sabbath ἡσύχασαν they rested κατά according to τήν the ἐντολήν. commandment.
Τῇ The δέ however μιᾷ first [day] τῶν of the σαββάτων week, ὄρθρου dawn βαθέως very early, ἐπί to τό the μνῆμα tomb ἦλθον they came, φέρουσαι bringing ἅ that ἡτοίμασαν they had prepared ἀρώματα. spices. εὗρον They found δέ then τόν the λίθον stone ἀποκεκυλισμένον having been rolled away ἀπό from τοῦ the μνημείου, tomb. εἰσελθοῦσαι Having entered δέ however, οὐ not εὗρον they found τό the σῶμα body τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord Ἰησοῦ. Jesus. καί And ἐγένετο it came to pass ἐν while τῷ - ἀπορεῖσθαι are perplexed αὐτάς they περί about τούτου this, καί that ἰδού behold, ἄνδρες men δύο two ἐπέστησαν stood by αὐταῖς them ἐν in ἐσθῆτι garments ἀστραπτούσῃ. dazzling. ἐμφόβων Terrified δέ then γενομένων having become αὐτῶν of them καί and κλινουσῶν bowing τά the πρόσωπα faces εἰς to τήν the γῆν ground, εἶπαν they said πρός to αὐτάς· them, Τί Why ζητεῖτε seek you τόν the ζῶντα living μετά among τῶν the νεκρῶν; dead? οὐ Not ἔστιν He is ὧδε, here, ἀλλά but ἠγέρθη. He is risen! μνήσθητε Remember ὡς how ἐλάλησεν He spoke ὑμῖν to you, ἔτι yet ὤν being ἐν in τῇ - Γαλιλαίᾳ Galilee, λέγων saying, Τόν The Υἱόν Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man ὅτι - δεῖ it behooves παραδοθῆναι to be delivered εἰς into χεῖρας hands ἀνθρώπων of men ἁμαρτωλῶν sinful, καί and σταυρωθῆναι to be crucified, καί and τῇ the τρίτῃ third ἡμέρᾳ day ἀναστῆναι. to arise.
