γενόμενος Having come δέ then ἐπί to τοῦ the τόπου place, εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Προσεύχεσθε Pray μή not εἰσελθεῖν to enter εἰς into πειρασμόν. temptation. Καί And αὐτός He ἀπεσπάσθη withdrew ἀπ ̓ from αὐτῶν them ὡσεί about λίθου a stone’s βολήν throw, καί and θείς having fallen on τά the γόνατα knees, προσηύχετο He was praying, λέγων· saying, Πάτερ, Father, εἰ if βούλει You are willing, παρένεγκε take away τοῦτο this τό - ποτήριον cup ἀπ ̓ from ἐμοῦ· Me. πλήν Yet μή not τό the θέλημα will μου of Me, ἀλλά but τό - σόν of You γινέσθω. be done. Ὤφθη Appeared δέ then αὐτῷ to Him ἄγγελος an angel ἀπ ̓ from οὐρανοῦ heaven, ἐνισχύων strengthening αὐτόν. Him. καί And γενόμενος having been ἐν in ἀγωνίᾳ agony, ἐκτενέστερον more earnestly προσηύχετο· He was praying. καί And ἐγένετο became ὁ the ἱδρώς sweat αὐτοῦ of Him ὡσεί like θρόμβοι great drops αἵματος of blood, καταβαίνοντες falling down ἐπί upon τήν the γῆν. ground. Καί And ἀναστάς having risen up ἀπό from τῆς the προσευχῆς prayer, ἐλθών having come πρός to τούς the μαθητάς disciples, εὗρεν He found κοιμωμένους sleeping αὐτούς them ἀπό from τῆς the λύπης, grief, καί and εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Τί Why καθεύδετε; are you sleeping? ἀναστάντες Having risen up προσεύχεσθε, pray, ἵνα that μή not εἰσέλθητε you might enter εἰς into πειρασμόν. temptation.
Ἔτι While still αὐτοῦ of Him λαλοῦντος speaking, ἰδού behold, ὄχλος, a crowd, καί and ὁ he who λεγόμενος is called Ἰούδας Judas, εἷς one τῶν of the δώδεκα Twelve, προήρχετο was going before αὐτούς them, καί and ἤγγισεν he drew near τῷ - Ἰησοῦ to Jesus φιλῆσαι to kiss αὐτόν. Him. Ἰησοῦς Jesus δέ then εἶπεν said αὐτῷ· to him, Ἰούδα, Judas, φιλήματι with a kiss τόν the Υἱόν Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man παραδίδως; are you betraying? Ἰδόντες Having seen δέ then οἱ those περί around αὐτόν Him τό what ἐσόμενον would be, εἶπαν· they said, Κύριε, Lord, εἰ if πατάξομεν will we strike ἐν with [the] μαχαίρῃ; sword? καί And ἐπάταξεν struck εἷς one τὶς a certain ἐκ of αὐτῶν them τοῦ of the ἀρχιερέως high priest τόν the δοῦλον servant, καί and ἀφεῖλεν cut off τό the οὖς ear, αὐτοῦ his τό - δεξιόν. right. Ἀποκριθείς Answering δέ now, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν· said, Ἐᾶτε Allow you ἕως as far as τούτου· thus! καί And ἁψάμενος having touched τοῦ the ὠτίου ear, ἰάσατο He healed αὐτόν. him.
Εἶπεν Said δέ then Ἰησοῦς Jesus πρός to τούς those παραγενομένους having come out ἐπ ̓ against αὐτόν Him, ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests, καί and στρατηγούς captains τοῦ of the ἱεροῦ temple, καί and πρεσβυτέρους· elders, ὡς As ἐπί against λῃστήν a robber ἐξήλθατε have you come out μετά with μαχαιρῶν swords καί and ξύλων; clubs? καθ ̓ Every ἡμέραν day ὄντος being μου of Me μεθ ̓ with ὑμῶν you ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple, οὐ not ἐξετείνατε did you stretch out τάς the χεῖρας hands ἐπ ̓ against ἐμέ, Me; ἀλλ ̓ but αὕτη this ἐστίν is ὑμῶν of you ἡ the ὥρα hour, καί and ἡ the ἐξουσία power τοῦ of the σκότους. darkness.
Συλλαβόντες Having seized δέ then αὐτόν Him, ἤγαγον they led [Him] away, καί and εἰσήγαγον led [Him] εἰς into τήν the οἰκίαν house τοῦ of the ἀρχιερέως· high priest. ὁ - δέ And Πέτρος Peter ἠκολούθει was following μακρόθεν. afar off. Περιαψάντων They having kindled δέ then πῦρ a fire ἐν in μέσῳ [the] midst τῆς of the αὐλῆς courtyard, καί and συνκαθισάντων having sat down together, ἐκάθητο was sitting ὁ - Πέτρος Peter μέσος among αὐτῶν. them. ἰδοῦσα Having seen δέ then αὐτόν him παιδίσκη a servant girl τὶς certain καθήμενον sitting πρός by τό the φῶς light, καί and ἀτενίσασα having looked intently on αὐτῷ him, εἶπεν· she said, Καί Also οὗτος this one σύν with αὐτῷ Him ἦν. was. ὁ - δέ But ἠρνήσατο he denied [it], λέγων· saying, οὐκ Not οἶδα I do know αὐτόν, Him, γύναι. woman. Καί And μετά after βραχύ a little, ἕτερος another ἰδών having seen αὐτόν him, ἔφη· was saying, Καί Also σύ you ἐκ of αὐτῶν them εἶ. are. ὁ - δέ But Πέτρος Peter ἔφη· was saying, Ἄνθρωπε, Man, οὐ not εἰμί. I am. Καί And διαστάσης having elapsed ὡσεί about ὥρας hour μιᾶς one, ἄλλος other τὶς a certain διϊσχυρίζετο strongly affirmed [it], λέγων· saying, Ἐπ ̓ Of ἀληθείας a truth, καί also οὗτος this one μετ ̓ with αὐτοῦ Him ἦν, was; καί also γάρ for Γαλιλαῖος a Galilean ἐστίν. he is. Εἶπεν Said δέ however ὁ - Πέτρος· Peter, Ἄνθρωπε, Man, οὐ not οἶδα I know ὅ what λέγεις. you say. καί And παραχρῆμα immediately ἔτι while λαλοῦντος he was speaking αὐτοῦ of him, ἐφώνησεν crowed ἀλέκτωρ. the rooster. καί And στραφείς having turned, ὁ the Κύριος Lord ἐνέβλεψεν looked at τῷ - Πέτρῳ, Peter, καί and ὑπεμνήσθη remembered ὁ - Πέτρος Peter τοῦ the ῥήματος word τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord, ὡς how εἶπεν He had said αὐτῷ to him ὅτι -, Πρίν Before ἀλέκτορα [the] rooster φωνῆσαι crows σήμερον today, ἀπαρνήσῃ you will deny με Me τρίς. three times. καί And ἐξελθών having gone forth ἔξω outside, ἔκλαυσεν he wept πικρῶς. bitterly.
Καί And οἱ the ἄνδρες men οἱ who συνέχοντες are holding αὐτόν Him ἐνέπαιζον began mocking αὐτῷ Him, δέροντες, beating [Him]. καί And περικαλύψαντες having blindfolded αὐτόν Him, ἐπηρώτων they were questioning [Him], λέγοντες· saying, Προφήτευσον, Prophesy, τίς who ἐστίν is ὁ the [one] παίσας having struck σε; You? καί And ἕτερα other things πολλά many, βλασφημοῦντες blaspheming, ἔλεγον they were saying εἰς to αὐτόν. Him.
Καί And ὡς when ἐγένετο it became ἡμέρα, day, συνήχθη were gathered together τό the πρεσβυτέριον elderhood τοῦ of the λαοῦ, people, ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests τέ both καί and γραμματεῖς, scribes, καί and ἀπήγαγον they led αὐτόν Him εἰς into τό the συνέδριον council αὐτῶν of them, λέγοντες· saying, εἰ If σύ You εἶ are ὁ the Χριστός, Christ, εἰπόν tell ἡμῖν. us. Εἶπεν He said δέ then αὐτοῖς· to them, Ἐάν If ὑμῖν you εἴπω, I should tell, οὐ no μή not πιστεύσητε· would you believe; ἐάν if δέ then ἐρωτήσω, I should ask [you], οὐ no μή not ἀποκριθῆτε. would you answer. ἀπό From τοῦ - νῦν now on δέ also ἔσται will be ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man καθήμενος sitting ἐκ at δεξιῶν [the] right hand τῆς of the δυνάμεως power τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. Εἶπαν They said δέ then πάντες· all, Σύ You οὖν then εἶ are ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - Θεοῦ; of God? ὁ - δέ And πρός to αὐτούς them ἔφη· He was saying, Ὑμεῖς You λέγετε say ὅτι that ἐγώ I εἰμί. am. οἱ - δέ And εἶπαν· they said, Τί What ἔτι any more ἔχομεν have we μαρτυρίας of witness χρείαν; need? αὐτοί We ourselves γάρ for ἠκούσαμεν have heard [it] ἀπό from τοῦ the στόματος mouth αὐτοῦ. of Him.
Καί And ἀναστάν having risen up, ἅπαν all τό the πλῆθος multitude αὐτῶν of them ἤγαγον led αὐτόν Him ἐπί to τόν - Πιλᾶτον. Pilate.
ἤρξαντο They began δέ then κατηγορεῖν to accuse αὐτοῦ Him, λέγοντες· saying, Τοῦτον This [man] εὕραμεν we found διαστρέφοντα misleading τό the ἔθνος nation ἡμῶν of us καί and κωλύοντα forbidding φόρους tribute Καίσαρι to Caesar διδόναι to be given, καί and λέγοντα declaring ἑαυτόν Himself Χριστόν Christ, βασιλέα a king, εἶναι. to be. ὁ - δέ And Πιλᾶτος Pilate ἠρώτησεν questioned αὐτόν Him, λέγων· saying, Σύ You εἶ are ὁ the Βασιλεύς King τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων; Jews? ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering αὐτῷ him, ἔφη· He was saying, Σύ You λέγεις. say. ὁ - δέ And Πιλᾶτος Pilate εἶπεν said πρός to τούς the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and τούς the ὄχλους· crowds, Οὐδέν Not εὑρίσκω find I αἴτιον guilt ἐν in τῷ the ἀνθρώπῳ man τούτῳ. this. οἱ - δέ But ἐπίσχυον they kept insisting, λέγοντες saying ὅτι -, Ἀνασείει He stirs up τόν the λαόν people, διδάσκων teaching καθ ̓ throughout ὅλης all τῆς - Ἰουδαίας, of Judea, καί and ἀρξάμενος He has begun ἀπό from τῆς - Γαλιλαίας Galilee ἕως even to ὧδε. here.
Πιλᾶτος Pilate δέ now ἀκούσας having heard, ἐπηρώτησεν asked εἰ whether ὁ the ἄνθρωπος man Γαλιλαῖος a Galilean ἐστίν, is, καί and ἐπιγνούς having learned ὅτι that ἐκ from τῆς the ἐξουσίας jurisdiction Ἡρῴδου of Herod ἐστίν He is, ἀνέπεμψεν he sent up αὐτόν Him πρός to Ἡρῴδην, Herod, ὄντα being καί also αὐτόν he himself ἐν in Ἱεροσολύμοις Jerusalem ἐν in ταύταις those ταῖς - ἡμέραις. days.
ὁ - δέ And Ἡρῴδης Herod, ἰδών having seen τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus, ἐχάρη [was] glad λίαν, exceedingly; ἦν he was γάρ for ἐκ of ἱκανῶν a long χρόνων time θέλων wishing ἰδεῖν to see αὐτόν Him, διά because of τό - ἀκούειν hearing περί concerning αὐτοῦ Him; καί and ἤλπιζεν he was hoping τὶ some σημεῖον sign ἰδεῖν to see ὑπ ̓ by αὐτοῦ Him γινόμενον. done. ἐπηρώτα He kept questioning δέ then αὐτόν Him ἐν in λόγοις words ἱκανοῖς, many; αὐτός He δέ however οὐδέν nothing ἀπεκρίνατο answered αὐτῷ. him. Εἱστήκεισαν Had been standing by δέ now οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and οἱ the γραμματεῖς scribes, εὐτόνως vehemently κατηγοροῦντες accusing αὐτοῦ. Him. ἐξουθενήσας Having set at naught δέ then αὐτόν Him, καί also ὁ - Ἡρῴδης Herod σύν with τοῖς the στρατεύμασιν troops αὐτοῦ of him, καί and ἐμπαίξας having mocked [Him], περιβαλών having put on [Him] ἐσθῆτα apparel λαμπράν splendid, ἀνέπεμψεν sent back αὐτόν him τῷ to Πιλάτῳ. Pilate. Ἐγένοντο Became δέ then φίλοι friends ὅ - τέ both Ἡρῴδης Herod καί and ὁ - Πιλᾶτος Pilate ἐν on αὐτῇ that τῇ - ἡμέρᾳ day μετ ̓ with ἀλλήλων· one another; προϋπῆρχον previously it had been that γάρ for ἐν at ἔχθρᾳ enmity ὄντες they were πρός between αὑτούς. themselves.
Πιλᾶτος Pilate δέ then, συνκαλεσάμενος having called together τούς the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and τούς the ἄρχοντας rulers καί and τόν the λαόν people, εἶπεν said πρός to αὐτούς· them, Προσηνέγκατε You brought μοι to me τόν the ἄνθρωπον man τοῦτον this, ὡς as ἀποστρέφοντα misleading τόν the λαόν, people; καί and ἰδού behold, ἐγώ I ἐνώπιον before ὑμῶν you ἀνακρίνας having examined [Him], οὐθέν nothing εὗρον found ἐν in τῷ the ἀνθρώπῳ man τούτῳ this αἴτιον guilty ὧν of that κατηγορεῖτε accusation you are bringing κατ ̓ against αὐτοῦ. Him. ἀλλ ̓ No, οὐδέ not even Ἡρῴδης, Herod [did]; ἀνέπεμψεν he sent back γάρ for αὐτόν Him πρός to ἡμᾶς, us. καί And ἰδού behold, οὐδέν nothing ἄξιον worthy θανάτου of death ἐστίν is πεπραγμένον done αὐτῷ· by Him. παιδεύσας Having chastised οὖν therefore αὐτόν Him, ἀπολύσω. I will release [Him].”
Ἀνέκραγον They cried out δέ however παμπληθεί all together, λέγοντες· saying, Αἶρε Away with τοῦτον, this [man], ἀπόλυσον release δέ now ἡμῖν to us τόν - Βαραββᾶν· Barabbas, ὅστις who ἦν was διά on account of στάσιν insurrection τινά a certain γενομένην having been made ἐν in τῇ the πόλει city, καί and φόνον murder, βληθείς having been cast ἐν into τῇ the φυλακῇ. prison. Jesus. οἱ - δέ But ἐπεφώνουν they were crying out, λέγοντες· saying, Σταύρου Crucify, σταύρου crucify αὐτόν. Him. ὁ - δέ And τρίτον a third [time] εἶπεν he said πρός to αὐτούς· them, Τί What γάρ for κακόν evil ἐποίησεν did commit οὗτος; this [man]? οὐδέν No αἴτιον cause θανάτου of death εὗρον found I ἐν in αὐτῷ· Him. παιδεύσας Having chastised οὖν therefore αὐτόν Him, ἀπολύσω. I will release [Him]. οἱ - δέ But ἐπέκειντο they were urgent, φωναῖς with voices μεγάλαις loud, αἰτούμενοι asking for αὐτόν Him σταυρωθῆναι, to be crucified. καί And κατίσχυον were prevailing αἱ the φωναί voices αὐτῶν. of them. καί and Πιλᾶτος Pilate ἐπέκρινεν sentenced γενέσθαι to be done τό the αἴτημα demand αὐτῶν· of them. ἀπέλυσεν He released δέ then τόν the [one] διά on account of στάσιν insurrection καί and φόνον murder βεβλημένον having been cast εἰς into φυλακήν prison, ὅν whom ᾐτοῦντο, they had asked for; τόν - δέ and Ἰησοῦν Jesus παρέδωκεν he delivered τῷ to the θελήματι will αὐτῶν. of them.
Καί And ὡς as ἀπήγαγον they led away αὐτόν, Him, ἐπιλαβόμενοι having laid hold on Σίμωνα Simon, τινά a certain Κυρηναῖον of Cyrene, ἐρχόμενον coming ἀπ ̓ from ἀγροῦ the country, ἐπέθηκαν they put upon αὐτῷ him τόν the σταυρόν cross, φέρειν to carry ὄπισθεν behind τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ. Jesus.
Ἠκολούθει Were following δέ now αὐτῷ Him πολύ a great πλῆθος multitude τοῦ of the λαοῦ people, καί and γυναικῶν of women, αἵ who ἐκόπτοντο were mourning καί and ἐθρήνουν lamenting for αὐτόν. Him. στραφείς Having turned δέ then πρός to αὐτάς them, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν· said, Θυγατέρες Daughters Ἰερουσαλήμ, of Jerusalem, μή not κλαίετε weep ἐπ ̓ for ἐμέ· Me, πλήν but ἐφ ̓ for ἑαυτάς yourselves κλαίετε weep, καί and ἐπί for τά the τέκνα children ὑμῶν, of you. ὅτι For ἰδού behold, ἔρχονται are coming ἡμέραι days ἐν in αἷς which ἐροῦσιν· they will say, Μακάριαι Blessed [are] αἱ the στεῖραι barren, καί and αἱ the κοιλίαι wombs αἵ that οὐ never ἐγέννησαν did bear, καί and μαστοί breasts οἵ that οὐ never ἔθρεψαν. nursed. τότε Then Ἄρξονται They will begin λέγειν to say τοῖς to the ὄρεσιν· mountains, Πέσετε Fall ἐφ ̓ upon ἡμᾶς, us, Καί and τοῖς to the βουνοῖς· hills, Καλύψατε Cover ἡμᾶς· us.”’ Ὅτι For εἰ if ἐν in τῷ the ὑγρῷ green ξύλῳ tree, ταῦτα these things ποιοῦσιν, they do; ἐν in τῷ the ξηρῷ dry, τί what γένηται; might take place?
Ἤγοντο Were being led away δέ now καί also ἕτεροι other κακοῦργοι criminals δύο two, σύν with αὐτῷ Him ἀναιρεθῆναι. to be put to death.
Καί And ὅτε when ἦλθον they came ἐπί to τόν the τόπον place τόν - καλούμενον called Κρανίον, The Skull, ἐκεῖ there ἐσταύρωσαν they crucified αὐτόν Him, καί and τούς the κακούργους, criminals, ὅν one μέν - ἐκ on [the] δεξιῶν right; ὅν one δέ now ἐκ on ἀριστερῶν.
