Ἐκεῖ There ἔσται will be ὁ the κλαυθμός weeping καί and ὁ the βρυγμός gnashing τῶν of the ὀδόντων, teeth ὅταν when ὄψησθε you see Ἀβραάμ Abraham, καί and Ἰσαάκ Isaac, καί and Ἰακώβ Jacob, καί and πάντας all τούς the προφήτας prophets, ἐν in τῇ the βασιλείᾳ kingdom τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God; ὑμᾶς you δέ however ἐκβαλλομένους are being cast ἔξω. out. καί And ἥξουσιν they will come ἀπό from ἀνατολῶν east καί and δυσμῶν west, καί and ἀπό from βορρᾶ north καί and νότου south, καί and ἀνακλιθήσονται will recline ἐν in τῇ the βασιλείᾳ kingdom τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. καί And ἰδού behold, εἰσίν there are ἔσχατοι last οἵ who ἔσονται will be πρῶτοι first, καί and εἰσίν there are πρῶτοι first οἵ who ἔσονται will be ἔσχατοι. last.
ἐν In αὐτῇ same τῇ the ὥρᾳ hour προσῆλθαν came near τινές certain Φαρισαῖοι Pharisees, λέγοντες saying αὐτῷ· to Him, Ἔξελθε Go out καί and πορεύου proceed ἐντεῦθεν, from here, ὅτι for Ἡρῴδης Herod θέλει desires σε You ἀποκτεῖναι. to kill. Καί And εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Πορευθέντες Having gone, εἴπατε say τῇ to the ἀλώπεκι fox ταύτῃ· that, Ἰδού Behold, ἐκβάλλω I cast out δαιμόνια demons, καί and ἰάσεις cures ἀποτελῶ I complete σήμερον today καί and αὔριον tomorrow, καί and τῇ the τρίτῃ third [day] τελειοῦμαι. I am perfected. πλήν But δεῖ it behooves με Me σήμερον today καί and αὔριον tomorrow καί and τῇ the [day] ἐχομένῃ following πορεύεσθαι, to proceed; ὅτι for οὐ not ἐνδέχεται it is possible [for] προφήτην a prophet ἀπολέσθαι to perish ἔξω outside of Ἰερουσαλήμ. Jerusalem.
Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem, Ἰερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem, ἡ - ἀποκτείνουσα killing τούς the προφήτας prophets, καί and λιθοβολοῦσα stoning τούς those ἀπεσταλμένους having been sent πρός to αὐτήν, her, ποσάκις how often ἠθέλησα I have wanted ἐπισυνάξαι to gather τά those τέκνα children σου of you, ὅν that τρόπον way ὄρνις a hen [gathers] τήν - ἑαυτῆς her νοσσιάν brood ὑπό under τάς the πτέρυγας, wings, καί and οὐ not ἠθελήσατε. you were willing. ἰδού Behold, ἀφίεται is left ὑμῖν to you ὁ the οἶκος house ὑμῶν. of you. λέγω I say δέ now ὑμῖν, to you, οὐ no μή not ἴδητε shall you see με Me ἕως until ἥξει [the time] comes ὅτε when εἴπητε· you say, Εὐλογημένος Blessed is ὁ the [One] ἐρχόμενος coming ἐν in ὀνόματι [the] name Κυρίου. of [the] Lord.’
Καί And ἐγένετο it came to pass ἐν on τῷ the ἐλθεῖν going αὐτόν of Him εἰς into οἶκον a house τινός of one τῶν of the ἀρχόντων rulers τῶν of the Φαρισαίων Pharisees σαββάτῳ on a Sabbath φαγεῖν to eat ἄρτον bread, καί and αὐτοί they ἦσαν were παρατηρούμενοι watching αὐτόν. Him.
καί And ἰδού behold, ἄνθρωπος a man τὶς certain ἦν there was ὑδρωπικός with dropsy ἔμπροσθεν before αὐτοῦ. Him. καί And ἀποκριθείς answering, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν spoke πρός to τούς the νομικούς lawyers καί and Φαρισαίους to [the] Pharisees, λέγων· saying, Ἔξεστιν Is it lawful τῷ on the σαββάτῳ Sabbath θεραπεῦσαι to heal ἤ or οὔ; not? οἱ - δέ But ἡσύχασαν. they were silent. Καί And ἐπιλαβόμενος having taken hold [of him], ἰάσατο He healed αὐτόν him καί and ἀπέλυσεν. let [him] go. καί And πρός to αὐτούς them εἶπεν· He said, Τίνος Which ὑμῶν of you υἱός a son ἤ or βοῦς an ox εἰς into φρέαρ a pit πεσεῖται, will fall, καί also οὐ not εὐθέως immediately ἀνασπάσει he will pull up αὐτόν him ἐν on ἡμέρᾳ day τοῦ the σαββάτου; Sabbath? Καί And οὐ not ἴσχυσαν they were able ἀνταποκριθῆναι to reply πρός to ταῦτα. these things.
Ἔλεγεν He was speaking δέ then πρός to τούς those κεκλημένους having been invited παραβολήν, a parable, ἐπέχων remarking πῶς how τάς the πρωτοκλισίας first places ἐξελέγοντο, they were choosing out, λέγων saying πρός to αὐτούς· them, Ὅταν When κληθῇς you are invited ὑπό by τινός anyone εἰς to γάμους, wedding feasts, μή not κατακλιθῇς do recline εἰς in τήν the πρωτοκλισίαν, first place, μήποτε lest ever ἐντιμότερος [one] more honorable σου than you ᾖ might have been κεκλημένος invited ὑπ ̓ by αὐτοῦ, him, καί and ἐλθών having come, ὁ the [one] σέ you καί and αὐτόν him καλέσας having invited ἐρεῖ will say σοι· to you, Δός Give τούτῳ to this one τόπον, [your] place, καί and τότε then ἄρξῃ you should begin μετά with αἰσχύνης shame τόν the ἔσχατον last τόπον place κατέχειν. to take. Ἀλλ ̓ But ὅταν when κληθῇς, you are invited, πορευθείς having gone, ἀνάπεσε recline εἰς in τόν the ἔσχατον last τόπον, place, ἵνα so that ὅταν when ἔλθῃ might come ὁ the [one] κεκληκώς having invited σε you, ἐρεῖ he will say σοι· to you, Φίλε, Friend, προσανάβηθι come up ἀνώτερον· higher. τότε Then ἔσται will be σοι to you δόξα glory ἐνώπιον before πάντων all τῶν those συνανακειμένων reclining σοι. [with] you. ὅτι For πᾶς everyone ὁ - ὑψῶν exalting ἑαυτόν himself ταπεινωθήσεται, will be humbled, καί and ὁ the [one] ταπεινῶν humbling ἑαυτόν himself ὑψωθήσεται. will be exalted.
Ἔλεγεν He was saying δέ then καί also τῷ to the [one] κεκληκότι having invited αὐτόν· Him, Ὅταν When ποιῇς you make ἄριστον a dinner ἤ or δεῖπνον, a supper, μή not φώνει call τούς - φίλους friends σου of you, μηδέ nor τούς the ἀδελφούς brothers σου of you, μηδέ nor τούς the συγγενεῖς relatives σου of you, μηδέ nor γείτονας neighbors πλουσίους, rich, μήποτε lest ever καί also αὐτοί they ἀντικαλέσωσιν should invite in return σε you, καί and γένηται be made ἀνταπόδομα recompense σοι. to you. ἀλλ ̓ But ὅταν when δοχήν a feast ποιῇς, you make, κάλει call πτωχούς, the poor, ἀναπείρους, the crippled, χωλούς, the lame, τυφλούς· the blind; καί and μακάριος blessed ἔσῃ, you will be, ὅτι because οὐ nothing ἔχουσιν they have ἀνταποδοῦναι to repay σοι, you. ἀνταποδοθήσεται It will be recompensed γάρ for σοι to you ἐν in τῇ the ἀναστάσει resurrection τῶν of the δικαίων. righteous.
Ἀκούσας Having heard δέ then τὶς one τῶν of those συνανακειμένων reclining with [Him] ταῦτα these things, εἶπεν he said αὐτῷ· to Him, Μακάριος Blessed [is he] ὅστις who φάγεται will eat ἄρτον bread ἐν in τῇ the βασιλείᾳ kingdom τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God.
ὁ - δέ But εἶπεν He said αὐτῷ· to him, Ἄνθρωπος A man τὶς certain ἐποίει was preparing δεῖπνον a supper μέγα, great, καί and ἐκάλεσεν invited πολλούς many. καί And ἀπέστειλεν he sent τόν the δοῦλον servant αὐτοῦ of him τῇ at the ὥρᾳ hour τοῦ of the δείπνου supper εἰπεῖν to say τοῖς to those κεκλημένοις· having been invited, Ἔρχεσθε, Come, ὅτι for ἤδη now ἕτοιμα ready ἐστίν. [it] is. Καί And ἤρξαντο began ἀπό with μιᾶς one [voice] πάντες all παραιτεῖσθαι. to excuse themselves. ὁ The πρῶτος first εἶπεν said αὐτῷ· to him, Ἀγρόν A field ἠγόρασα I have bought, καί and ἔχω I have ἀνάγκην need ἐξελθών going out ἰδεῖν to see αὐτόν· it; ἐρωτῶ I beg of σε, you, ἔχε hold με me παρῃτημένον. excused. Καί And ἕτερος another εἶπεν· said, Ζεύγη Yoke βοῶν of oxen ἠγόρασα I have bought πέντε five, καί and πορεύομαι I am going δοκιμάσαι to prove αὐτά· them; ἐρωτῶ I beg of σε, you ἔχε hold με me παρῃτημένον. excused. Καί And ἕτερος another εἶπεν· said, Γυναῖκα A wife ἔγημα I have married, καί and διά because of τοῦτο this οὐ not δύναμαι I am able ἐλθεῖν. to come. Καί And παραγενόμενος having come, ὁ the δοῦλος servant ἀπήγγειλεν reported τῷ to the κυρίῳ master αὐτοῦ of him ταῦτα. these things. τότε Then ὀργισθείς having become angry, ὁ the οἰκοδεσπότης master of the house εἶπεν said τῷ to δούλῳ servant αὐτοῦ· of him, Ἔξελθε Go out ταχέως quickly εἰς into τάς the πλατείας streets καί and ῥύμας lanes τῆς of the πόλεως city, καί and τούς the πτωχούς poor καί and ἀναπείρους crippled καί and τυφλούς blind καί and χωλούς lame εἰσάγαγε bring in ὧδε. here. Καί And εἶπεν said ὁ the δοῦλος· servant, Κύριε, Sir, γέγονεν it has been done ὅ as ἐπέταξας, you did command, καί and ἔτι still τόπος room ἐστίν. there is. Καί And εἶπεν said ὁ the κύριος master πρός to τόν the δοῦλον· servant, Ἔξελθε Go out εἰς into τάς the ὁδούς highways καί and φραγμούς hedges καί and ἀνάγκασον compel [them] εἰσελθεῖν, to come in, ἵνα so that γεμισθῇ may be filled μου of me ὁ the οἶκος· house. λέγω I say γάρ for ὑμῖν to you ὅτι that οὐδείς not one τῶν the ἀνδρῶν men ἐκείνων of those τῶν - κεκλημένων having been invited γεύσεται will taste μου of me τοῦ the δείπνου. supper.
Συνεπορεύοντο Were going with δέ then αὐτῷ Him ὄχλοι crowds πολλοί, great; καί and στραφείς having turned, εἶπεν He said πρός to αὐτούς· them, Εἴ If τὶς anyone ἔρχεται comes πρός to με Me, καί and οὐ not μισεῖ hates τόν the πατέρα father ἑαυτοῦ of himself καί and τήν the μητέρα mother καί and τήν the γυναῖκα wife καί and τά the τέκνα children καί and τούς the ἀδελφούς brothers καί and τάς the ἀδελφάς sisters, ἔτι yes, τέ and καί even τήν the ψυχήν life ἑαυτοῦ, of him, οὐ not δύναται he is able εἶναι to be μου of Me μαθητής. disciple. ὅστις Whoever οὐ not βαστάζει carries τόν the σταυρόν cross ἑαυτοῦ of himself καί and ἔρχεται comes ὀπίσω after μου, Me, οὐ not δύναται is able εἶναι to be μου My μαθητής. disciple.
Τίς Which γάρ for ἐκ of ὑμῶν you, θέλων desiring πύργον a tower οἰκοδομῆσαι to build, οὐχί not πρῶτον first καθίσας having sat down, ψηφίζει counts τήν the δαπάνην, cost, εἰ whether ἔχει he has εἰς for ἀπαρτισμόν; [its] completion? ἵνα Thus μήποτε not ever θέντος he having laid αὐτοῦ of it θεμέλιον a foundation, καί and μή not ἰσχύοντος being able ἐκτελέσαι to finish, πάντες all οἱ - θεωροῦντες seeing [it] ἄρξωνται may begin αὐτῷ him ἐμπαίζειν to mock, λέγοντες saying ὅτι -, Οὗτος This ὁ - ἄνθρωπος man ἤρξατο began οἰκοδομεῖν to build καί and οὐ not ἴσχυσεν was able ἐκτελέσαι. to finish. Ἤ Or τίς what βασιλεύς king, πορευόμενος proceeding ἑτέρῳ with another βασιλεῖ king συμβαλεῖν to engage εἰς in πόλεμον war, οὐχί not, καθίσας having sat down, πρῶτον first βουλεύσεται will take counsel εἰ whether δυνατός able ἐστίν he is ἐν with δέκα ten χιλιάσιν thousand ὑπαντῆσαι to meet τῷ the [one] μετά with εἴκοσι twenty χιλιάδων thousand ἐρχομένῳ coming ἐπ ̓ against αὐτόν; him? εἰ If δέ now μή γέ, not, ἔτι still αὐτοῦ of him πόρρω far off ὄντος being, πρεσβείαν an embassy ἀποστείλας having sent, ἐρωτᾷ he asks τά - πρός for εἰρήνην. peace. Οὕτως So οὖν therefore πᾶς every one ἐκ of ὑμῶν you ὅς who οὐ not ἀποτάσσεται does give up πᾶσιν all τοῖς that ἑαυτοῦ he himself ὑπάρχουσιν possesses, οὐ not δύναται is able εἶναι to be μου My μαθητής. disciple.
Καλόν Good [is] οὖν therefore τό the ἅλας· salt; ἐάν if δέ however καί even τό the ἅλας salt μωρανθῇ, becomes tasteless, ἐν with τίνι what ἀρτυθήσεται; will it be seasoned? οὔτε Neither εἰς for γῆν soil οὔτε nor εἰς for κοπρίαν manure εὔθετον fit ἐστίν, is it; ἔξω out βάλλουσιν they cast αὐτό. it. ὁ The [one] ἔχων having ὦτα ears ἀκούειν to hear, ἀκουέτω. let him hear.
Ἦσαν Were δέ now αὐτῷ to Him ἐγγίζοντες drawing near πάντες all οἱ the τελῶναι tax collectors καί and οἱ the ἁμαρτωλοί sinners ἀκούειν to hear αὐτοῦ. Him. καί And διεγόγγυζον were grumbling οἵ the τέ both Φαρισαῖοι Pharisees καί and οἱ the γραμματεῖς scribes, λέγοντες saying ὅτι -, Οὗτος This [man] ἁμαρτωλούς sinners προσδέχεται receives καί and συνεσθίει eats with αὐτοῖς. them.
Εἶπεν He spoke δέ then πρός to αὐτούς them τήν the παραβολήν parable ταύτην this, λέγων· saying, Τίς What ἄνθρωπος man ἐκ of ὑμῶν you, ἔχων having ἑκατόν a hundred πρόβατα sheep, καί and ἀπολέσας having lost ἐκ of αὐτῶν them ἕν one, οὐ not καταλείπει leaves τά the ἐνενήκοντα ninety ἐννέα nine ἐν in τῇ the ἐρήμῳ open field, καί and πορεύεται goes ἐπί after τό the [one] ἀπολωλός having been lost, ἕως until εὕρῃ he finds αὐτό; it? καί And εὑρών having found [it], ἐπιτίθησιν he lays [it] ἐπί on τούς the ὤμους shoulders αὐτοῦ of him, χαίρων rejoicing. καί And ἐλθών having come εἰς to τόν the οἶκον house, συνκαλεῖ he calls together τούς the φίλους friends καί and τούς the γείτονας neighbors, λέγων saying αὐτοῖς· to them, Συνχάρητε Rejoice with μοι, me, ὅτι for εὗρον I have found τό the πρόβατον sheep μου of me, τό the [one] ἀπολωλός. having been lost! λέγω I say ὑμῖν to you ὅτι that οὕτως in the same way χαρά joy ἐν in τῷ - οὐρανῷ heaven ἔσται there will be ἐπί over ἑνί one ἁμαρτωλῷ sinner μετανοοῦντι repenting, ἤ rather than ἐπί over ἐνενήκοντα ninety ἐννέα nine δικαίοις righteous ones, οἵτινες who οὐ no χρείαν need ἔχουσιν have μετανοίας. of repentance.
Ἤ Or τίς what γυνή woman, δραχμάς drachmas ἔχουσα having δέκα ten, ἐάν if ἀπολέσῃ she should lose δραχμήν drachma μίαν, one, οὐχί not ἅπτει lights λύχνον a lamp καί and σαροῖ sweeps τήν the οἰκίαν house, καί and ζητεῖ seeks ἐπιμελῶς carefully ἕως until οὗ it εὕρῃ; she finds? καί And εὑροῦσα having found [it], συνκαλεῖ she calls together τάς the φίλας friends καί and γείτονας neighbors, λέγουσα· saying, Συνχάρητε Rejoice with μοι, me, ὅτι for εὗρον I have found τήν the δραχμήν drachma ἥν that ἀπώλεσα. I lost. οὕτως, Thus λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, γίνεται there is χαρά joy ἐνώπιον before τῶν the ἀγγέλων angels τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God ἐπί over ἑνί one ἁμαρτωλῷ sinner μετανοοῦντι. repenting.
Εἶπεν He said δέ· then, Ἄνθρωπος A man τὶς certain εἶχεν had δύο two υἱούς. sons. καί And εἶπεν said ὁ the νεώτερος younger αὐτῶν of them τῷ to πατρί· [the] father, Πάτερ, Father, δός give μοι to me τό the ἐπιβάλλον falling [to me] μέρος portion τῆς of the οὐσίας. property. ὁ - δέ And διεῖλεν he divided αὐτοῖς between them τόν the βίον. property. Καί And μετ ̓ after οὐ not πολλάς many ἡμέρας days, συναγαγών having gathered together πάντα all, ὁ the νεώτερος younger υἱός son ἀπεδήμησεν went away εἰς into χώραν a country μακράν distant, καί and ἐκεῖ there διεσκόρπισεν he wasted τήν the οὐσίαν estate αὐτοῦ of him, ζῶν living ἀσώτως. prodigally. Δαπανήσαντος Having spent δέ however αὐτοῦ of him πάντα all, ἐγένετο there arose λιμός a famine ἰσχυρά severe κατά throughout τήν the χώραν country ἐκείνην, that, καί and αὐτός he ἤρξατο began ὑστερεῖσθαι. to be in need.
