οὐ No γάρ for ἐστίν there is δένδρον tree καλόν good, ποιοῦν producing καρπόν fruit σαπρόν, bad; οὐδέ nor πάλιν again δένδρον a tree σαπρόν bad, ποιοῦν producing καρπόν fruit καλόν. good. ἕκαστον Each γάρ for δένδρον tree ἐκ by τοῦ the ἰδίου own καρποῦ fruit γινώσκεται· is known. οὐ Not γάρ for ἐκ from ἀκανθῶν thorns συλλέγουσιν do they gather σῦκα figs, οὐδέ nor ἐκ from βάτου a bramble bush σταφυλήν grapes τρυγῶσιν. gather they. ὁ The ἀγαθός good ἄνθρωπος man, ἐκ out of τοῦ the ἀγαθοῦ good θησαυροῦ treasure τῆς of the καρδίας [his] heart προφέρει brings forth τό that which [is] ἀγαθόν, good; καί and ὁ the πονηρός evil, ἐκ out of τοῦ the πονηροῦ evil, προφέρει brings forth τό that which [is] πονηρόν· evil. ἐκ Out of γάρ for περισσεύματος the abundance καρδίας of his heart, λαλεῖ speaks τό the στόμα mouth αὐτοῦ. of him.
Τί Why δέ now με Me καλεῖτε· do you call Κύριε Lord, κύριε, Lord, καί and οὐ not ποιεῖτε do ἅ what λέγω; I say? Πᾶς Everyone ὁ who ἐρχόμενος is coming πρός to με Me, καί and ἀκούων hearing μου of Me τῶν the λόγων words, καί and ποιῶν doing αὐτούς, them, ὑποδείξω I will show ὑμῖν you τίνι whom ἐστίν he is ὅμοιος· like. ὅμοιος Like ἐστίν he is ἀνθρώπῳ to a man οἰκοδομοῦντι building οἰκίαν a house, ὅς who ἔσκαψεν dug καί and ἐβάθυνεν deepened, καί and ἔθηκεν laid θεμέλιον a foundation ἐπί on τήν the πέτραν· rock; πλημμύρης a flood δέ then γενομένης having come, προσέρηξεν burst upon ὁ the ποταμός stream τῇ the οἰκίᾳ house ἐκείνῃ, that, καί and οὐ not ἴσχυσεν was able σαλεῦσαι to shake αὐτήν it, διά because τό - καλῶς well οἰκοδομῆσθαι had been built αὐτήν. it. ὁ The [one] δέ however ἀκούσας having heard, καί and μή not ποιήσας having done, ὅμοιος like ἐστίν is ἀνθρώπῳ to a man οἰκοδομήσαντι having built οἰκίαν a house ἐπί on τήν the γῆν ground χωρίς without θεμελίου, a foundation, ᾗ on which προσέρηξεν burst ὁ the ποταμός, stream, καί and εὐθύς immediately συνέπεσεν it fell, καί and ἐγένετο was τό the ῥῆγμα ruin τῆς of the οἰκίας house ἐκείνης that μέγα. great.
Ἐπειδή And when ἐπλήρωσεν He had completed πάντα all τά the ῥήματα words αὐτοῦ of Him εἰς in τάς the ἀκοάς hearing τοῦ of the λαοῦ, people, εἰσῆλθεν He entered εἰς into Καφαρναούμ. Capernaum. Ἑκατοντάρχου Of a centurion δέ then τινός a certain δοῦλος servant, κακῶς sick ἔχων being, ἤμελλεν was about τελευτᾶν, to die, ὅς who ἦν was αὐτῷ to him ἔντιμος. valued highly. ἀκούσας Having heard δέ then περί about τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ Jesus, ἀπέστειλεν he sent πρός to αὐτόν Him πρεσβυτέρους elders τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων Jews, ἐρωτῶν begging αὐτόν Him ὅπως that ἐλθών having come, διασώσῃ He might save τόν the δοῦλον servant αὐτοῦ. of him. οἱ - δέ And παραγενόμενοι having come πρός to τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus, παρεκάλουν they were begging αὐτόν Him σπουδαίως earnestly, λέγοντες saying ὅτι that, Ἄξιος Worthy ἐστίν he is, ᾧ to whom παρέξῃ You will grant τοῦτο· this; ἀγαπᾷ he loves γάρ for τό the ἔθνος nation ἡμῶν of us, καί and τήν the συναγωγήν synagogue αὐτός he ᾠκοδόμησεν built ἡμῖν. for us. ὁ - δέ And Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐπορεύετο was going σύν with αὐτοῖς. them. ἤδη Already δέ then, αὐτοῦ He οὐ not μακράν far ἀπέχοντος being distant ἀπό from τῆς the οἰκίας house, ἔπεμψεν sent φίλους friends ὁ the ἑκατοντάρχης centurion, λέγων saying αὐτῷ· to Him, Κύριε, Lord, μή not σκύλλου, trouble Yourself, οὐ not γάρ for ἱκανός worthy εἰμί I am ἵνα that ὑπό under τήν the στέγην roof μου of me εἰσέλθῃς· You should come; διό therefore οὐδέ neither ἐμαυτόν myself ἠξίωσα counted I worthy πρός to σέ You ἐλθεῖν· to come; ἀλλά but εἰπέ say λόγῳ, in a word, καί and ἰαθήτω shall be healed ὁ the παῖς servant μου. of me. καί Also γάρ for ἐγώ I ἄνθρωπος a man εἰμί am ὑπό under ἐξουσίαν authority τασσόμενος appointed, ἔχων having ὑπ ̓ under ἐμαυτόν me στρατιώτας, soldiers; καί and λέγω I say τούτῳ· to this [one], Πορεύθητι, Go, καί and πορεύεται, he goes; καί and ἄλλῳ· to another, Ἔρχου, Come, καί and ἔρχεται, he comes; καί and τῷ to δούλῳ [the] servant μου· of me, Ποίησον Do τοῦτο, this, καί and ποιεῖ. he does [it]. Ἀκούσας Having heard δέ then ταῦτα these things, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐθαύμασεν marveled at αὐτόν him; καί and στραφείς having turned τῷ to the ἀκολουθοῦντι following αὐτῷ Him ὄχλῳ crowd, εἶπεν· He said, Λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, οὐδέ not even ἐν in τῷ - Ἰσραήλ Israel τοσαύτην such great πίστιν faith εὗρον. did I find. καί And ὑποστρέψαντες having returned εἰς to τόν the οἶκον house, οἱ those πεμφθέντες having been sent εὗρον found τόν the δοῦλον servant ὑγιαίνοντα. in good health.
Καί And ἐγένετο it came to pass ἐν on τῷ the ἑξῆς next [day], ἐπορεύθη He went εἰς into πόλιν a town καλουμένην called Ναΐν Nain, καί and συνεπορεύοντο were going with αὐτῷ Him οἱ the μαθηταί disciples αὐτοῦ of Him, καί and ὄχλος a crowd πολύς. great. ὡς As δέ then ἤγγισεν He drew near τῇ to the πύλῃ gate τῆς of the πόλεως, town, καί also ἰδού behold, ἐξεκομίζετο was being carried out τεθνηκώς [one] having died, μονογενής only begotten υἱός son τῇ of the μητρί mother αὐτοῦ of him; καί and αὐτή she ἦν was χήρα, a widow. καί And ὄχλος a crowd τῆς of the πόλεως town, ἱκανός considerable, ἦν was σύν with αὐτῇ. her. καί And ἰδών having seen αὐτήν her, ὁ the Κύριος Lord ἐσπλαγχνίσθη was moved with compassion ἐπ ̓ on αὐτῇ her, καί and εἶπεν said αὐτῇ· to her, Μή Not κλαῖε. weep. Καί And προσελθών having come up, ἥψατο He touched τῆς the σοροῦ, bier; οἱ those δέ then βαστάζοντες bearing [it] ἔστησαν, stopped. καί And εἶπεν· He said, Νεανίσκε, Young man, σοί to you λέγω, I say, ἐγέρθητι. Arise! καί And ἀνεκάθισεν sat up ὁ the νεκρός dead [man], καί and ἤρξατο began λαλεῖν, to speak, καί and ἔδωκεν He gave αὐτόν him τῇ to the μητρί mother αὐτοῦ. of him. Ἔλαβεν Seized δέ then φόβος fear πάντας all, καί and ἐδόξαζον they began glorifying τόν - Θεόν God, λέγοντες saying ὅτι -, Προφήτης A prophet μέγας great ἠγέρθη has risen up ἐν among ἡμῖν us! καί and ὅτι -, Ἐπεσκέψατο Has visited ὁ - Θεός God τόν the λαόν people αὐτοῦ. of Him! καί And ἐξῆλθεν went out ὁ the λόγος report οὗτος this ἐν in ὅλῃ all τῇ - Ἰουδαίᾳ Judea περί concerning αὐτοῦ Him, καί and πάσῃ in all τῇ the περιχώρῳ. surrounding region.
Καί And ἀπήγγειλαν brought word Ἰωάννῃ to John οἱ the μαθηταί disciples αὐτοῦ of him περί concerning πάντων all τούτων. these things. καί And προσκαλεσάμενος having called near δύο two τινάς certain τῶν - μαθητῶν disciples αὐτοῦ of him, ὁ - Ἰωάννης John ἔπεμψεν sent [them] πρός to τόν the Κύριον Lord, λέγων· saying, Σύ You εἶ are ὁ the ἐρχόμενος coming [One], ἤ or ἄλλον another προσδοκῶμεν; are we to look for? Παραγενόμενοι Having come δέ then πρός to αὐτόν Him, οἱ the ἄνδρες men εἶπαν· said, Ἰωάννης John ὁ the Βαπτιστής Baptist ἀπέστειλεν has sent ἡμᾶς us πρός to σέ you, λέγων· saying, Σύ You εἶ are ὁ the ἐρχόμενος coming [One], ἤ or ἄλλον another προσδοκῶμεν; are we to look for? ἐν At ἐκείνῃ that very τῇ - ὥρᾳ hour, ἐθεράπευσεν He healed πολλούς many ἀπό of νόσων diseases, καί and μαστίγων afflictions, καί and πνευμάτων spirits πονηρῶν evil, καί and τυφλοῖς to blind πολλοῖς many ἐχαρίσατο He granted βλέπειν. to see. καί And ἀποκριθείς answering, εἶπεν He said αὐτοῖς· to them, Πορευθέντες Having gone, ἀπαγγείλατε relate Ἰωάννῃ to John ἅ what εἴδετε you have seen καί and ἠκούσατε· heard: τυφλοί Blind ἀναβλέπουσιν, receive sight, χωλοί lame περιπατοῦσιν, walk, λεπροί lepers καθαρίζονται are cleansed, καί and κωφοί deaf ἀκούουσιν, hear, νεκροί dead ἐγείρονται, are raised, πτωχοί poor εὐαγγελίζονται· are gospelized.
καί And μακάριος blessed ἐστίν is ὅς who ἐάν if μή not σκανδαλισθῇ shall be offended ἐν in ἐμοί. Me.
Ἀπελθόντων Having departed δέ then τῶν the ἀγγέλων messengers Ἰωάννου of John, ἤρξατο He began λέγειν to speak πρός to τούς the ὄχλους crowds περί concerning Ἰωάννου· John: Τί What ἐξήλθατε have you gone out εἰς into τήν the ἔρημον wilderness θεάσασθαι; to see? κάλαμον A reed ὑπό by ἀνέμου [the] wind σαλευόμενον; shaken? ἀλλά But τί what ἐξήλθατε have you gone out ἰδεῖν; to see? ἄνθρωπον A man ἐν in μαλακοῖς fine ἱματίοις clothing ἠμφιεσμένον; arrayed? ἰδού Behold, οἱ those ἐν in ἱματισμῷ clothing ἐνδόξῳ splendid καί and τρυφῇ in luxury ὑπάρχοντες living, ἐν in τοῖς the βασιλείοις palaces εἰσίν. are. Ἀλλά But τί what ἐξήλθατε have you gone out ἰδεῖν; to see? προφήτην; A prophet? ναί Yes, λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, καί and [one] περισσότερον more excellent προφήτου. than a prophet. οὗτος This ἐστίν is he περί concerning οὗ whom γέγραπται· it has been written: Ἰδού Behold, ἀποστέλλω I send τόν the ἄγγελον messenger μου of Me πρό before προσώπου [the] face σου, of you, Ὅς who κατασκευάσει will prepare τήν the ὁδόν way σου of You ἔμπροσθεν before σου. You.’
Λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, μείζων a greater ἐν among γεννητοῖς [those] born γυναικῶν of women Ἰωάννου than John οὐδείς no one ἐστίν· is; ὁ - δέ yet μικρότερος the least ἐν in τῇ the βασιλείᾳ kingdom τοῦ of Θεοῦ God, μείζων greater αὐτοῦ than he ἐστίν. is.
Καί And πᾶς all ὁ the λαός people ἀκούσας having heard, καί even οἱ the τελῶναι tax collectors, ἐδικαίωσαν declared as righteous τόν - Θεόν God, βαπτισθέντες having been baptized [with] τό the βάπτισμα baptism Ἰωάννου· of John; οἱ - δέ but Φαρισαῖοι the Pharisees καί and οἱ the νομικοί lawyers, τήν the βουλήν counsel τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God ἠθέτησαν rejected εἰς as to ἑαυτούς themselves, μή not βαπτισθέντες having been baptized ὑπ ̓ by αὐτοῦ. him.
Τίνι To what οὖν therefore ὁμοιώσω will I liken τούς the ἀνθρώπους men τῆς of the γενεᾶς generation ταύτης this? καί And τίνι to what εἰσίν are they ὅμοιοι; like? ὅμοιοι Like εἰσίν are they παιδίοις to little children τοῖς - ἐν in ἀγορᾷ the marketplace καθημένοις sitting, καί and προσφωνοῦσιν calling ἀλλήλοις to each other ἅ one, λέγει· saying: Ηὐλήσαμεν We piped ὑμῖν to you, καί and οὐ not ὠρχήσασθε, you did dance; Ἐθρηνήσαμεν we sang a dirge, καί and οὐ not ἐκλαύσατε. you did weep.
Ἐλήλυθεν Has come γάρ for Ἰωάννης John ὁ the Βαπτιστής Baptist, μή neither ἐσθίων eating ἄρτον bread, μήτε nor πίνων drinking οἶνον, wine, καί and λέγετε· you say, Δαιμόνιον A demon ἔχει. He has. ἐλήλυθεν Has come ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man, ἐσθίων eating καί and πίνων, drinking, καί and λέγετε· you say, Ἰδού Behold, ἄνθρωπος a man, φάγος a glutton καί and οἰνοπότης, a drunkard, φίλος a friend τελωνῶν of tax collectors καί and ἁμαρτωλῶν. of sinners. καί And ἐδικαιώθη was justified ἡ - σοφία wisdom ἀπό by πάντων all τῶν the τέκνων children αὐτῆς. of her.
Ἠρώτα Was asking δέ now τὶς one αὐτόν Him τῶν of the Φαρισαίων Pharisees, ἵνα that φάγῃ He should eat μετ ̓ with αὐτοῦ, him; καί and εἰσελθών having entered εἰς into τόν the οἶκον house τοῦ of the Φαρισαίου Pharisee, κατεκλίθη. He reclined. καί And ἰδού behold, γυνή a woman ἥτις who ἦν was ἐν in τῇ the πόλει city, ἁμαρτωλός, a sinner. καί And ἐπιγνοῦσα she having known ὅτι that κατάκειται He had reclined ἐν in τῇ the οἰκίᾳ house τοῦ of the Φαρισαίου, Pharisee, κομίσασα having taken ἀλάβαστρον an alabaster flask μύρου of fragrant oil, καί and στᾶσα having stood ὀπίσω behind Him παρά at τούς the πόδας feet αὐτοῦ of Him κλαίουσα weeping, τοῖς the δάκρυσιν tears ἤρξατο she began βρέχειν to wet τούς with the πόδας feet αὐτοῦ of Him, καί and ταῖς with the θριξίν hairs τῆς of the κεφαλῆς head αὐτῆς of her, ἐξέμασσεν she was wiping [them], καί and κατεφίλει was kissing τούς the πόδας feet αὐτοῦ of Him, καί and ἤλειφεν was anointing [them] τῷ with the μύρῳ. fragrant oil. Ἰδών Having seen δέ now ὁ the Φαρισαῖος Pharisee, ὁ the [one] καλέσας having invited αὐτόν Him, εἶπεν he spoke ἐν within ἑαυτῷ himself, λέγων· saying, Οὗτος This, εἰ if ἦν He were προφήτης, a prophet, ἐγίνωσκεν would have known ἄν - τίς who καί and ποταπή what ἡ the γυνή woman [is] ἥτις who ἅπτεται touches αὐτοῦ, Him, ὅτι for ἁμαρτωλός a sinner ἐστίν. she is. Καί And ἀποκριθείς answering, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν said πρός to αὐτόν· him, Σίμων, Simon, ἔχω I have σοί to you τὶ something εἰπεῖν. to say. ὁ - δέ· And, Διδάσκαλε, Teacher, εἰπέ, say [it], φησίν. he says.
