Καί And Ζαχαρίας Zechariah, ὁ the πατήρ father αὐτοῦ of him, ἐπλήσθη was filled Πνεύματος with [the] Spirit Ἁγίου Holy, καί and ἐπροφήτευσεν prophesied, λέγων· saying, Εὐλογητός Blessed be Κύριος [the] Lord ὁ the Θεός God τοῦ - Ἰσραήλ, of Israel, ὅτι because ἐπεσκέψατο He has visited καί and ἐποίησεν has performed λύτρωσιν redemption τῷ [on] the λαῷ people αὐτοῦ, of Him, καί and ἤγειρεν has raised up κέρας a horn σωτηρίας of salvation ἡμῖν for us, ἐν in οἴκῳ [the] house Δαυίδ of David παιδός of [the] servant αὐτοῦ, of Him; καθώς as ἐλάλησεν He spoke διά by στόματος [the] mouth τῶν of the ἁγίων holy ἀπ ̓ of αἰῶνος old προφητῶν prophets αὐτοῦ, of Him, σωτηρίαν salvation ἐκ from ἐχθρῶν [the] enemies ἡμῶν of us, καί and ἐκ from χειρός [the] hand πάντων of all τῶν those μισούντων hating ἡμᾶς, us; ποιῆσαι to fulfill ἔλεος mercy μετά toward τῶν the πατέρων fathers ἡμῶν of us, καί and μνησθῆναι to remember διαθήκης [the] covenant ἁγίας holy αὐτοῦ, of Him, ὅρκον [the] oath ὅν that ὤμοσεν He swore πρός to Ἀβραάμ Abraham, τόν the πατέρα father ἡμῶν, of us, τοῦ - δοῦναι to grant ἡμῖν us,

ἀφόβως without fear, ἐκ from χειρός [the] hand ἐχθρῶν of our enemies ῥυσθέντας having been saved, λατρεύειν to serve αὐτῷ Him,

ἐν in ὁσιότητι holiness καί and δικαιοσύνῃ righteousness ἐνώπιον before αὐτοῦ Him, πάσαις all ταῖς the ἡμέραις days ἡμῶν. of our life. Καί And σύ you δέ, now, παιδίον, child, προφήτης prophet Ὑψίστου of [the] Most High κληθήσῃ· will be called; προπορεύσῃ you will go γάρ for ἐνώπιον before Κυρίου the Lord, ἑτοιμάσαι to prepare ὁδούς ways αὐτοῦ, of Him; τοῦ - δοῦναι to give γνῶσιν knowledge σωτηρίας of salvation τῷ to λαῷ people αὐτοῦ of Him, ἐν in ἀφέσει forgiveness ἁμαρτιῶν of [the] sins αὐτῶν, of them, διά through σπλάγχνα [the] affections ἐλέους of compassion Θεοῦ of God ἡμῶν, of us, ἐν in οἷς which ἐπισκέψεται will visit ἡμᾶς us ἀνατολή [the] Sunrise ἐκ from ὕψους, on high, ἐπιφᾶναι to shine upon τοῖς those ἐν in σκότει darkness καί and σκιᾷ in [the] shadow θανάτου of death καθημένοις, sitting; τοῦ - κατευθῦναι to direct τούς the πόδας feet ἡμῶν of us εἰς into ὁδόν [the] way εἰρήνης. of peace.

Τό - δέ And παιδίον the child ηὔξανεν continued to grow καί and ἐκραταιοῦτο was strengthened πνεύματι, in spirit; καί and ἦν he was ἐν in ταῖς the ἐρήμοις deserted places ἕως until ἡμέρας [the] day ἀναδείξεως of appearance αὐτοῦ of him πρός to τόν - Ἰσραήλ. Israel.

Ἐγένετο It came to pass δέ then ἐν in ταῖς the ἡμέραις days ἐκείναις those, ἐξῆλθεν went out δόγμα a decree παρά from Καίσαρος Caesar Αὐγούστου Augustus ἀπογράφεσθαι to register πᾶσαν all τήν the οἰκουμένην. world. αὕτη This ἀπογραφή registration πρώτη first ἐγένετο took place [when] ἡγεμονεύοντος was governing τῆς - Συρίας Syria Κυρηνίου. Quirinius. καί And ἐπορεύοντο were going πάντες all ἀπογράφεσθαι, to be registered, ἕκαστος each εἰς to τήν the ἑαυτοῦ of themselves πόλιν. city. Ἀνέβη Went up δέ then καί also Ἰωσήφ Joseph, ἀπό from τῆς - Γαλιλαίας Galilee ἐκ out of πόλεως [the] town Ναζαρέθ of Nazareth, εἰς to τήν - Ἰουδαίαν Judea, εἰς to πόλιν [the] City Δαυίδ of David, ἥτις which καλεῖται is called Βηθλεέμ, Bethlehem, διά because of τό - εἶναι being αὐτόν his ἐκ of οἴκου [the] house καί and πατριᾶς family Δαυίδ, of David, ἀπογράψασθαι to register σύν with Μαριάμ Mary, τῇ the [one] ἐμνηστευμένῃ being betrothed αὐτῷ, to him, οὔσῃ she being ἐγκύῳ. with child. Ἐγένετο It came to pass δέ then ἐν in τῷ their εἶναι being αὐτούς - ἐκεῖ there, ἐπλήσθησαν were fulfilled αἱ the ἡμέραι days τοῦ of the τεκεῖν giving birth αὐτήν, of her. καί And ἔτεκεν she brought forth τόν the υἱόν son αὐτῆς of her, τόν the πρωτότοκον, firstborn, καί and ἐσπαργάνωσεν wrapped in swaddling cloths αὐτόν him, καί and ἀνέκλινεν laid αὐτόν Him ἐν in φάτνῃ, a manger, διότι because οὐ not ἦν there was αὐτοῖς for them τόπος a place ἐν in τῷ the καταλύματι. inn.

Καί And ποιμένες shepherds ἦσαν were ἐν in τῇ the χώρᾳ region τῇ - αὐτῇ same, ἀγραυλοῦντες lodging in the fields καί and φυλάσσοντες keeping φυλακάς watch τῆς - νυκτός by night ἐπί over τήν the ποίμνην flock αὐτῶν. of them. καί And ἄγγελος an angel Κυρίου of [the] Lord ἐπέστη stood by αὐτοῖς them, καί and δόξα [the] glory Κυρίου of [the] Lord περιέλαμψεν shone around αὐτούς, them, καί and ἐφοβήθησαν they feared φόβον [with] fear μέγαν. great. καί And εἶπεν said αὐτοῖς to them ὁ the ἄγγελος· angel, Μή Not φοβεῖσθε, fear; ἰδού behold, γάρ for εὐαγγελίζομαι I bring good news ὑμῖν to you χαράν [of] joy μεγάλην great, ἥτις which ἔσται will be παντί to all τῷ the λαῷ, people. ὅτι For ἐτέχθη has been born ὑμῖν to you σήμερον today Σωτήρ a Savior, ὅς who ἐστίν is Χριστός Christ Κύριος [the] Lord, ἐν in πόλει [the] City Δαυίδ. of David. καί And τοῦτο this [is] ὑμῖν to you τό the σημεῖον, sign: εὑρήσετε You will find βρέφος a baby ἐσπαργανωμένον wrapped in swaddling cloths, καί and κείμενον lying ἐν in φάτνῃ. a manger. Καί And ἐξαίφνης suddenly ἐγένετο there came σύν with τῷ the ἀγγέλῳ angel πλῆθος a multitude στρατιᾶς of [the] host οὐρανίου heavenly, αἰνούντων praising τόν - Θεόν God καί and λεγόντων· saying: Δόξα Glory ἐν in ὑψίστοις [the] highest Θεῷ to God, καί and ἐπί on γῆς earth εἰρήνη peace ἐν among ἀνθρώποις men εὐδοκίας. with whom He is pleased!

Καί And ἐγένετο it came to pass, ὡς as ἀπῆλθον were departing ἀπ ̓ from αὐτῶν them εἰς into τόν the οὐρανόν heaven οἱ the ἄγγελοι, angels, οἱ the ποιμένες shepherds ἐλάλουν were saying πρός to ἀλλήλους· one another, Διέλθωμεν Let us go through δή indeed ἕως as far as Βηθλεέμ Bethlehem, καί and ἴδωμεν let us see τό the ῥῆμα word τοῦτο this τό that γεγονός has come to pass, ὅ which ὁ the Κύριος Lord ἐγνώρισεν has made known ἡμῖν. to us. Καί And ἦλθαν they came σπεύσαντες having hurried, καί and ἀνεῦραν found τήν - τέ both Μαριάμ Mary καί and τόν - Ἰωσήφ Joseph, καί and τό the βρέφος baby, κείμενον lying ἐν in τῇ the φάτνῃ· manger. ἰδόντες Having seen δέ now, ἐγνώρισαν they proclaimed abroad περί concerning τοῦ the ῥήματος saying τοῦ - λαληθέντος having been told αὐτοῖς them περί concerning τοῦ the παιδίου Child τούτου. this. καί And πάντες all οἱ those ἀκούσαντες having heard ἐθαύμασαν marveled περί concerning τῶν the things λαληθέντων having been spoken ὑπό by τῶν the ποιμένων shepherds πρός to αὐτούς· them. ἡ - δέ But Μαρία Mary πάντα all συνετήρει was treasuring up τά - ῥήματα matters ταῦτα these, συμβάλλουσα pondering [them] ἐν in τῇ the καρδίᾳ heart αὐτῆς. of her. Καί And ὑπέστρεψαν returned οἱ the ποιμένες shepherds, δοξάζοντες glorifying καί and αἰνοῦντες praising τόν - Θεόν God ἐπί for πᾶσιν all things οἷς which ἤκουσαν they had heard καί and εἶδον seen, καθώς as ἐλαλήθη it was said πρός to αὐτούς. them.

Καί And ὅτε when ἐπλήσθησαν were fulfilled ἡμέραι days ὀκτώ eight τοῦ - περιτεμεῖν to circumcise αὐτόν Him, καί then ἐκλήθη was called τό the ὄνομα name αὐτοῦ of Him Ἰησοῦς, Jesus, τό which κληθέν He had been called ὑπό by τοῦ the ἀγγέλου angel πρό before τοῦ - συλλημφθῆναι was conceived αὐτόν He ἐν in τῇ the κοιλίᾳ. womb.

Καί And ὅτε when ἐπλήσθησαν were fulfilled αἱ the ἡμέραι days τοῦ of the καθαρισμοῦ purification αὐτῶν of them κατά according to τόν the νόμον law Μωϋσέως, of Moses, ἀνήγαγον they brought αὐτόν Him εἰς to Ἱεροσόλυμα Jerusalem, παραστῆσαι to present τῷ to the Κυρίῳ, Lord καθώς as γέγραπται it has been written ἐν in [the] νόμῳ law Κυρίου of [the] Lord ὅτι -: Πᾶν Every ἄρσεν male διανοῖγον opening μήτραν a womb ἅγιον holy τῷ to the Κυρίῳ Lord κληθήσεται, shall be called,” καί and τοῦ - δοῦναι to offer θυσίαν a sacrifice, κατά according to τό that εἰρημένον having been said ἐν in τῷ the νόμῳ law Κυρίου, of [the] Lord, Ζεῦγος A pair τρυγόνων of turtle doves ἤ or δύο two νοσσούς young περιστερῶν. pigeons.”

Καί And ἰδού behold, ἄνθρωπος a man ἦν there was ἐν in Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem, ᾧ whose ὄνομα name [was] Συμεών Simeon; καί and ὁ the ἄνθρωπος man οὗτος this δίκαιος [was] righteous καί and εὐλαβής devout, προσδεχόμενος waiting for παράκλησιν [the] consolation τοῦ - Ἰσραήλ, of Israel, καί and Πνεῦμα [the] Spirit ἦν was Ἅγιον Holy ἐπ ̓ upon αὐτόν· him. καί And ἦν it was αὐτῷ to him κεχρηματισμένον divinely revealed ὑπό by τοῦ the Πνεύματος Spirit τοῦ - Ἁγίου Holy μή not ἰδεῖν to see θάνατον death πρίν before ἤ that ἄν - ἴδῃ he should see τόν the Χριστόν Christ Κυρίου. of [the] Lord. καί And ἦλθεν he came ἐν in τῷ the Πνεύματι Spirit εἰς into τό the ἱερόν· temple; καί and ἐν in τῷ the [time when] εἰσαγαγεῖν were bringing in τούς the γονεῖς parents τό the παιδίον child Ἰησοῦν Jesus, τοῦ the [thing] ποιῆσαι were doing αὐτούς they κατά according to τό that εἰθισμένον having become customary τοῦ by the νόμου law περί for αὐτοῦ Him, καί then αὐτός he ἐδέξατο received αὐτό Him εἰς into τάς the ἀγκάλας arms, καί and εὐλόγησεν blessed τόν - Θεόν God, καί and εἶπεν· said: Νῦν Now ἀπολύεις You dismiss τόν the δοῦλον servant σου, of You, Δέσποτα, Lord, κατά according to τό the ῥῆμα word σου of You, ἐν in εἰρήνῃ· peace; ὅτι for εἶδον have seen οἱ the ὀφθαλμοί eyes μου of me τό the σωτήριον salvation σου, of You, ὅ which ἡτοίμασας You have prepared κατά before πρόσωπον [the] face πάντων of all τῶν the λαῶν, peoples, φῶς a light εἰς for ἀποκάλυψιν revelation ἐθνῶν of [the] Gentiles, καί and δόξαν glory λαοῦ of [the] people σου of You, Ἰσραήλ. Israel.

Καί And ἦν were ὁ the πατήρ father αὐτοῦ of Him, καί and ἡ the μήτηρ mother, θαυμάζοντες marveling ἐπί at τοῖς the things λαλουμένοις having been spoken περί concerning αὐτοῦ. Him. καί And εὐλόγησεν blessed αὐτούς them Συμεών Simeon, καί and εἶπεν said πρός to Μαριάμ Mary τήν the μητέρα mother αὐτοῦ· of Him: Ἰδού Behold, οὗτος this [Child] κεῖται is appointed εἰς for πτῶσιν [the] falling καί and ἀνάστασιν rising up πολλῶν of many ἐν in τῷ - Ἰσραήλ Israel, καί and εἰς for σημεῖον a sign ἀντιλεγόμενον— spoken against — καί and σοῦ of you δέ also αὐτῆς of her τήν the ψυχήν soul διελεύσεται will go through ῥομφαία— a sword — ὅπως so that ἄν - ἀποκαλυφθῶσιν may be revealed ἐκ of πολλῶν many καρδιῶν hearts διαλογισμοί. Καί And ἦν there was Ἅννα Anna, προφῆτις, a prophetess, θυγάτηρ daughter Φανουήλ, of Phanuel, ἐκ of φυλῆς [the] tribe Ἀσήρ· of Asher, αὕτη she προβεβηκυῖα being advanced ἐν in ἡμέραις years πολλαῖς, great, ζήσασα having lived μετά with ἀνδρός a husband ἔτη years ἑπτά seven ἀπό from τῆς the παρθενίας marriage αὐτῆς of herself, καί and αὐτή she χήρα [was] a widow ἕως of about ἐτῶν years ὀγδοήκοντα eighty [and] τεσσάρων, four, ἥ who οὐ not ἀφίστατο departed τοῦ the ἱεροῦ temple, νηστείαις with fastings καί and δεήσεσιν prayers λατρεύουσα serving νύκτα night καί and ἡμέραν. day. καί And αὐτῇ she τῇ at that ὥρᾳ hour ἐπιστᾶσα having come up, ἀνθωμολογεῖτο was giving praise τῷ - Θεῷ to God, καί and ἐλάλει was speaking περί concerning αὐτοῦ Him πᾶσιν to all τοῖς those προσδεχομένοις waiting for λύτρωσιν [the] redemption Ἰερουσαλήμ. of Jerusalem.

Καί And ὡς when ἐτέλεσαν they had performed πάντα everything τά - κατά according to τόν the νόμον law Κυρίου, of [the] Lord, ἐπέστρεψαν they returned εἰς to τήν - Γαλιλαίαν Galilee, εἰς to the πόλιν town ἑαυτῶν of them, Ναζαρέθ. Nazareth. Τό - δέ And παιδίον the Child ηὔξανεν continued to grow καί and ἐκραταιοῦτο become strong, πληρούμενον being filled σοφίᾳ, with wisdom, καί and χάρις [the] grace Θεοῦ of God ἦν was ἐπ ̓ upon αὐτό. Him.

Καί And ἐπορεύοντο were going οἱ the γονεῖς parents αὐτοῦ of Him κατ ̓ every ἔτος year εἰς to Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem τῇ at the ἑορτῇ feast τοῦ of the πάσχα. Passover. Καί And ὅτε when ἐγένετο He was ἐτῶν years [old] δώδεκα, twelve, ἀναβαινόντων having gone up αὐτῶν they κατά according to τό the ἔθος custom τῆς of the ἑορτῆς Feast, καί and τελειωσάντων having completed τάς the ἡμέρας, days, ἐν in τῷ the ὑποστρέφειν returning αὐτούς of them, ὑπέμεινεν remained behind Ἰησοῦς Jesus ὁ the παῖς boy ἐν in Ἰερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem. καί But οὐ not ἔγνωσαν knew οἱ the γονεῖς parents αὐτοῦ. of Him. νομίσαντες Having supposed δέ now αὐτόν Him εἶναι to be ἐν in τῇ their συνοδίᾳ company, ἦλθον they went ἡμέρας a day’s ὁδόν journey, καί and ἀνεζήτουν began seeking αὐτόν Him ἐν among τοῖς the συγγενεῦσιν relatives καί and τοῖς the γνωστοῖς, acquaintances; καί and μή not εὑρόντες having found [Him], ὑπέστρεψαν they returned εἰς to Ἰερουσαλήμ Jerusalem, ἀναζητοῦντες seeking αὐτόν. Him. Καί And ἐγένετο it came to pass μετά after ἡμέρας days τρεῖς three, εὗρον they found αὐτόν Him ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple, καθεζόμενον sitting ἐν in μέσῳ [the] midst τῶν of the διδασκάλων teachers, καί both ἀκούοντα hearing αὐτῶν them καί and ἐπερωτῶντα questioning αὐτούς· them. ἐξίσταντο Were amazed δέ then πάντες all οἱ those ἀκούοντες hearing αὐτοῦ Him ἐπί at τῇ the συνέσει understanding καί and ταῖς the ἀποκρίσεσιν answers αὐτοῦ. of Him. Καί And ἰδόντες having seen αὐτόν Him, ἐξεπλάγησαν, they were astonished, καί and εἶπεν said πρός to αὐτόν Him ἡ the μήτηρ mother αὐτοῦ· of Him, Τέκνον, Child τί why ἐποίησας have You done ἡμῖν to us οὕτως; thus? ἰδού Behold, ὁ the πατήρ father σου of You, κἀγώ and I, ὀδυνώμενοι distressing ἐζητοῦμεν were seeking σε. You. Καί And εἶπεν He said πρός to αὐτούς· them, Τί Why [is it] ὅτι that ἐζητεῖτε you were seeking με; Me? οὐ Not ᾔδειτε knew you ὅτι that ἐν in τοῖς the [house] τοῦ of the Πατρός Father μου of Me δεῖ it behooves εἶναι to be με; Me?” καί And αὐτοί they οὐ not συνῆκαν understood τό the ῥῆμα word ὅ that ἐλάλησεν He spoke αὐτοῖς. to them. Καί And κατέβη He went down μετ ̓ with αὐτῶν them καί and ἦλθεν came εἰς to Ναζαρέθ Nazareth, καί and ἦν He was ὑποτασσόμενος subject αὐτοῖς. to them. καί And ἡ the μήτηρ mother αὐτοῦ of Him διετήρει was treasuring up πάντα all τά the ῥήματα [these] matters ἐν in τῇ the καρδίᾳ heart αὐτῆς. of her. Καί And Ἰησοῦς Jesus προέκοπτεν continued to advance ἐν in τῇ - σοφίᾳ wisdom καί and ἡλικίᾳ stature, καί and χάριτι in favor παρά with Θεῷ God καί and ἀνθρώποις. men.

ἐν In ἔτει year δέ then πεντεκαιδεκάτῳ fifteenth τῆς of the ἡγεμονίας reign Τιβερίου of Tiberius Καίσαρος, Caesar, ἡγεμονεύοντος being governor Ποντίου Pontius Πιλάτου Pilate τῆς - Ἰουδαίας, of Judea, καί and τετρααρχοῦντος being tetrarch τῆς - Γαλιλαίας of Galilee Ἡρῴδου, Herod, Φιλίππου Philip δέ now τοῦ the ἀδελφοῦ brother αὐτοῦ of him τετρααρχοῦντος being tetrarch τῆς - Ἰτουραίας of Ituraea καί and Τραχωνίτιδος of Trachonitis χώρας, [the] region, καί and Λυσανίου Lysanias τῆς - Ἀβιληνῆς of Abilene τετρααρχοῦντος, being tetrarch, ἐπί during ἀρχιερέως [the] high priesthood Ἅννα of Annas καί and Καϊάφα, Caiaphas, ἐγένετο came ῥῆμα [the] word Θεοῦ of God ἐπί upon Ἰωάννην John, τόν - Ζαχαρίου of Zechariah υἱόν son, ἐν in τῇ the ἐρήμῳ. wilderness.
