Καί And λέγει says αὐτῷ to him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Ἀμήν Truly λέγω I say σοι to you ὅτι that σύ yourself σήμερον now ταύτῃ this τῇ - νυκτί night, πρίν before ἤ that δίς twice ἀλέκτορα [the] rooster φωνῆσαι crows, τρίς three times με Me ἀπαρνήσῃ. you will deny. ὁ - δέ And ἐκπερισσῶς emphatically ἐλάλει· he kept saying, Ἐάν If δέῃ it is needful με of me συναποθανεῖν to die with σοι, You, οὐ no μή not σε You ἀπαρνήσομαι. will I deny. ὡσαύτως Likewise δέ now καί also πάντες all ἔλεγον. of them were saying.
Καί And ἔρχονται they come εἰς to χωρίον a place, οὗ of which τό the ὄνομα name [is] Γεθσημανί Gethsemane; καί and λέγει He says τοῖς to the μαθηταῖς disciples αὐτοῦ· of Him, Καθίσατε Sit ὧδε here, ἕως while προσεύξωμαι. I shall pray. καί And παραλαμβάνει He takes τόν - Πέτρον Peter καί and τόν - Ἰάκωβον James καί and τόν - Ἰωάννην John μετ ̓ with αὐτοῦ Him; καί and ἤρξατο He began ἐκθαμβεῖσθαι to be greatly awe-struck καί and ἀδημονεῖν deeply distressed. καί And λέγει He says αὐτοῖς· to them, Περίλυπος Very sorrowful ἐστίν is ἡ the ψυχή soul μου of Me, ἕως even to θανάτου· death; μείνατε remain ὧδε here καί and γρηγορεῖτε. watch. Καί And προελθών having gone forward μικρόν a little, ἔπιπτεν He fell ἐπί upon τῆς the γῆς ground καί and προσηύχετο was praying ἵνα that, εἰ if δυνατόν possible ἐστίν it is, παρέλθῃ might pass ἀπ ̓ from αὐτοῦ Him ἡ the ὥρα, hour. καί And ἔλεγεν· He was saying, Ἀββᾶ Abba, ὁ - Πατήρ, Father, πάντα all things [are] δυνατά possible σοι· to You; παρένεγκε take away τό the ποτήριον cup τοῦτο this ἀπ ̓ from ἐμοῦ· Me; ἀλλ ̓ but οὐ not τί what ἐγώ I θέλω will, ἀλλά but τί what σύ. You. Καί And ἔρχεται He comes καί and εὑρίσκει finds αὐτούς them καθεύδοντας, sleeping. καί And λέγει He says τῷ - Πέτρῳ· to Peter, Σίμων, Simon, καθεύδεις; are you asleep? οὐ Not ἴσχυσας were you able μίαν one ὥραν hour γρηγορῆσαι; to watch? γρηγορεῖτε Watch καί and προσεύχεσθε, pray, ἵνα so that μή not ἔλθητε you may enter εἰς into πειρασμόν· temptation. τό The μέν indeed πνεῦμα spirit πρόθυμον [is] willing, ἡ - δέ but σάρξ the flesh ἀσθενής. weak. Καί And πάλιν again ἀπελθών having gone away, προσηύξατο He prayed, τόν the αὐτόν same λόγον thing εἰπών. having said. καί And πάλιν again ἐλθών having returned, εὗρεν he found αὐτούς them καθεύδοντας, sleeping. ἦσαν Were γάρ for αὐτῶν of them οἱ the ὀφθαλμοί eyes καταβαρυνόμενοι, heavy; καί and οὐ not ᾔδεισαν they knew τί what ἀποκριθῶσιν they should answer αὐτῷ. Him. Καί And ἔρχεται He comes τό the τρίτον third time, καί and λέγει says αὐτοῖς· to them, Καθεύδετε Are you sleeping τό - λοιπόν still καί and ἀναπαύεσθε· taking your rest. ἀπέχει· It is enough; ἦλθεν has come ἡ the ὥρα, hour; ἰδού behold, παραδίδοται is delivered up ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man εἰς into τάς the χεῖρας hands τῶν of the ἁμαρτωλῶν. sinful. ἐγείρεσθε Rise, ἄγωμεν· let us go; ἰδού behold, ὁ the [one] παραδιδούς betraying με Me ἤγγικεν. has drawn near!
Καί And εὐθύς immediately ἔτι while yet αὐτοῦ of Him λαλοῦντος speaking, παραγίνεται comes up Ἰούδας Judas, εἷς one τῶν of the δώδεκα Twelve, καί and μετ ̓ with αὐτοῦ Him ὄχλος a crowd μετά with μαχαιρῶν swords καί and ξύλων clubs, παρά from τῶν the ἀρχιερέων chief priests καί and τῶν the γραμματέων scribes καί and τῶν the πρεσβυτέρων. elders. Δεδώκει Had given δέ then ὁ the [one] παραδιδούς delivering up αὐτόν Him σύσσημον a sign αὐτοῖς to them, λέγων· saying: Ὅν Whomever ἄν - φιλήσω I shall kiss, αὐτός He ἐστίν, is; κρατήσατε seize αὐτόν Him καί and ἀπάγετε lead [Him] away ἀσφαλῶς. securely. καί And ἐλθών having arrived, εὐθύς immediately προσελθών having come up αὐτῷ to Him, λέγει· he says, Ῥαββί, Rabbi! καί And κατεφίλησεν he kissed αὐτόν· Him. οἱ - δέ And ἐπέβαλαν they laid τάς the χεῖρας hands αὐτῷ on Him καί and ἐκράτησαν seized αὐτόν. Him. εἷς One δέ then, τὶς a certain τῶν of those παρεστηκότων standing by, σπασάμενος having drawn τήν the μάχαιραν sword, ἔπαισεν struck τόν the δοῦλον servant τοῦ of the ἀρχιερέως high priest καί and ἀφεῖλεν cut off αὐτοῦ of him τό the ὠτάριον. ear.
Καί And ἀποκριθείς answering, ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν said αὐτοῖς· to them, ὡς As ἐπί against λῃστήν a robber ἐξήλθατε are you come out μετά with μαχαιρῶν swords καί and ξύλων clubs συλλαβεῖν to capture με; Me? καθ ̓ Every ἡμέραν day ἤμην I was πρός with ὑμᾶς you ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple διδάσκων teaching, καί and οὐ not ἐκρατήσατε you did seize με· Me. ἀλλ ̓ But [it is] ἵνα that πληρωθῶσιν may be fulfilled αἱ the γραφαί. Scriptures. Καί And ἀφέντες having left αὐτόν Him, ἔφυγον fled πάντες. all. Καί And νεανίσκος [a] young man τὶς certain συνηκολούθει was following αὐτῷ Him, περιβεβλημένος having cast σινδόνα a linen cloth ἐπί about γυμνοῦ, [his] naked [body]; καί and κρατοῦσιν they seize αὐτόν· him, ὁ - δέ and καταλιπών having left behind τήν the σινδόνα linen cloth, γυμνός naked ἔφυγεν. he fled. Καί And ἀπήγαγον they led away τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus πρός to τόν the ἀρχιερέα, high priest. καί And συνέρχονται come together πάντες all οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests, καί and οἱ the πρεσβύτεροι elders, καί and οἱ the γραμματεῖς. scribes. καί And ὁ - Πέτρος Peter ἀπό from μακρόθεν afar off ἠκολούθησεν followed αὐτῷ Him, ἕως as far as ἔσω within εἰς to τήν the αὐλήν court τοῦ of the ἀρχιερέως high priest; καί and ἦν he was συνκαθήμενος sitting μετά with τῶν the ὑπηρετῶν officers καί and θερμαινόμενος warming himself πρός at τό the φῶς. fire.
οἱ - δέ And ἀρχιερεῖς the chief priests καί and ὅλον all τό the συνέδριον Council ἐζήτουν were seeking κατά against τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ Jesus μαρτυρίαν testimony, εἰς to τό - θανατῶσαι put to death αὐτόν, Him, καί but οὐ not ηὕρισκον· they were finding [any]. πολλοί Many γάρ for ἐψευδομαρτύρουν were bearing false testimony κατ ̓ against αὐτοῦ, Him, καί but ἴσαι alike αἱ their μαρτυρίαι testimonies οὐ not ἦσαν. were. Καί And τινές some ἀναστάντες having risen up, ἐψευδομαρτύρουν were bearing false testimony κατ ̓ against αὐτοῦ Him, λέγοντες saying, Ὅτι - Ἡμεῖς We ἠκούσαμεν heard αὐτοῦ Him λέγοντος saying ὅτι -, Ἐγώ I καταλύσω will destroy τόν the ναόν temple τοῦτον this, τόν the [one] χειροποίητον made with hands, καί and διά in τριῶν three ἡμερῶν days ἄλλον another, ἀχειροποίητον not made with hands, οἰκοδομήσω. I will build. καί And οὐδέ neither οὕτως thus ἴση alike ἦν was ἡ the μαρτυρία testimony αὐτῶν. of them. Καί And ἀναστάς having stood up ὁ the ἀρχιερεύς high priest εἰς in μέσον the midst, ἐπηρώτησεν he questioned τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus, λέγων· saying, οὐκ Not ἀποκρίνῃ answer You οὐδέν nothing? τί What [is it] οὗτοι these σου You καταμαρτυροῦσιν; testify against? ὁ - δέ But ἐσιώπα He was silent, καί and οὐ not ἀπεκρίνατο did He answer οὐδέν. nothing. Πάλιν Again ὁ the ἀρχιερεύς high priest ἐπηρώτα was questioning αὐτόν Him, καί and λέγει says αὐτῷ· to Him, Σύ You εἶ are ὁ the Χριστός Christ, ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ of the Εὐλογητοῦ; Blessed [One]? ὁ - δέ And Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν· said, Ἐγώ I εἰμί, am. καί And ὄψεσθε you will see τόν the Υἱόν Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man ἐκ at [the] δεξιῶν right hand καθήμενον sitting τῆς of δυνάμεως Power, καί and ἐρχόμενον coming μετά with τῶν the νεφελῶν clouds τοῦ of οὐρανοῦ. heaven. ὁ - δέ And ἀρχιερεύς the high priest, διαρρήξας having torn τούς the χιτῶνας garments αὐτοῦ of him, λέγει· says, Τί What ἔτι any more χρείαν need ἔχομεν have we μαρτύρων; of witnesses? ἠκούσατε You heard τῆς the βλασφημίας· blasphemy. τί What ὑμῖν to you φαίνεται; does it appear? οἱ - δέ And πάντες all κατέκριναν condemned αὐτόν Him ἔνοχον deserving εἶναι to be θανάτου. of death.
Καί And ἤρξαντο began τινές some ἐμπτύειν to spit upon αὐτῷ Him, καί and περικαλύπτειν to cover up αὐτοῦ of Him τό the πρόσωπον face, καί and κολαφίζειν to strike αὐτόν Him, καί and λέγειν to say αὐτῷ· to Him, Προφήτευσον, Prophesy! καί And οἱ the ὑπηρέται officers ῥαπίσμασιν with the palms αὐτόν Him ἔλαβον. received.
Καί And ὄντος being τοῦ - Πέτρου Peter κάτω below ἐν in τῇ the αὐλῇ courtyard, ἔρχεται comes μία one τῶν of the παιδισκῶν servant girls τοῦ of the ἀρχιερέως high priest, καί and ἰδοῦσα having seen τόν - Πέτρον Peter θερμαινόμενον warming himself, ἐμβλέψασα having looked at αὐτῷ him, λέγει· she says, Καί Also σύ you μετά with τοῦ the Ναζαρηνοῦ Nazarene ἦσθα were, τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ. Jesus. ὁ - δέ But ἠρνήσατο he denied [it], λέγων· saying, Οὔτε Neither οἶδα I know, οὔτε nor even ἐπίσταμαι understand σύ you τί what λέγεις. say. καί And ἐξῆλθεν he went forth ἔξω out εἰς into τό the προαύλιον porch; καί and ἀλέκτωρ the rooster ἐφώνησεν. crowed.
Καί And ἡ the παιδίσκη servant girl, ἰδοῦσα having seen αὐτόν him, ἤρξατο began πάλιν again λέγειν to say τοῖς to those παρεστῶσιν standing by ὅτι -, Οὗτος This ἐκ [one] of αὐτῶν them ἐστίν. is. ὁ - δέ But πάλιν again ἠρνεῖτο. he denied. Καί And μετά after μικρόν a little, πάλιν again οἱ those παρεστῶτες standing by ἔλεγον were saying τῷ - Πέτρῳ· to Peter, Ἀληθῶς Truly ἐκ of αὐτῶν them εἶ, you are, καί also γάρ for Γαλιλαῖος a Galilean εἶ. you are.” ὁ - δέ But ἤρξατο he began ἀναθεματίζειν to curse καί and ὀμνύναι to swear ὅτι -, οὐκ Not οἶδα I know τόν the ἄνθρωπον man τοῦτον this, ὅν whom λέγετε. you speak of! καί And εὐθύς immediately ἐκ for δευτέρου the second time ἀλέκτωρ a rooster ἐφώνησεν. crowed. Καί And ἀνεμνήσθη remembered ὁ - Πέτρος Peter τό the ῥῆμα word ὡς that εἶπεν had said αὐτῷ to him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ὅτι -, Πρίν Before ἀλέκτορα [the] rooster φωνῆσαι crows, δίς twice τρίς three times με Me ἀπαρνήσῃ· you will deny. καί And ἐπιβαλών having broken down, ἔκλαιεν. he began to weep.
Καί And εὐθύς early πρωΐ in the morning, συμβούλιον a counsel ποιήσαντες having formed οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests, μετά with τῶν the πρεσβυτέρων elders, καί and γραμματέων scribes, καί and ὅλον all τό the συνέδριον, Council, δήσαντες having bound τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus, ἀπήνεγκαν they led [Him] away καί and παρέδωκαν delivered [Him] Πιλάτῳ. to Pilate.
Καί And ἐπηρώτησεν questioned αὐτόν Him ὁ - Πιλᾶτος· Pilate, Σύ You εἶ are ὁ the Βασιλεύς King τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων; Jews? ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering αὐτῷ to him, λέγει· He says, Σύ You λέγεις. have said. Καί And κατηγόρουν were accusing αὐτοῦ Him οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests πολλά. of many things. ὁ - δέ And Πιλᾶτος Pilate πάλιν again ἐπηρώτα began to question αὐτόν Him, λέγων· saying, οὐκ Not ἀποκρίνῃ answer You οὐδέν; nothing? ἴδε See πόσα how many things σου You κατηγοροῦσιν. they testify against! ὁ - δέ But Ἰησοῦς Jesus οὐκέτι no longer οὐδέν nothing ἀπεκρίθη, answered, ὥστε so as θαυμάζειν to amaze τόν - Πιλᾶτον. Pilate.
Κατά At δέ then ἑορτήν [the] feast, ἀπέλυεν he used to release αὐτοῖς to them ἕνα one δέσμιον prisoner, ὅν whom παρῃτοῦντο. they requested. ἦν There was δέ then ὁ the [one] λεγόμενος called Βαραββᾶς Barabbas, μετά with τῶν the στασιαστῶν rebels δεδεμένος having been bound, οἵτινες who ἐν in τῇ the στάσει insurrection φόνον murder πεποιήκεισαν. had committed. καί And ἀναβάς having cried out, ὁ the ὄχλος crowd ἤρξατο began αἰτεῖσθαι to beg [him to do] καθώς as usually ἐποίει he did αὐτοῖς. for them. ὁ - δέ But Πιλᾶτος Pilate ἀπεκρίθη answered αὐτοῖς them, λέγων· saying, Θέλετε Wish you [that] ἀπολύσω I should release ὑμῖν to you τόν the Βασιλέα King τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων; Jews? ἐγίνωσκεν He was aware γάρ for ὅτι that διά because of φθόνον envy παραδεδώκεισαν had delivered up αὐτόν Him οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς. chief priests. οἱ - δέ But ἀρχιερεῖς the chief priests ἀνέσεισαν stirred up τόν the ὄχλον crowd ἵνα so that μᾶλλον instead τόν - Βαραββᾶν Barabbas ἀπολύσῃ he might release αὐτοῖς. to them. ὁ - δέ And Πιλᾶτος Pilate πάλιν again ἀποκριθείς answering, ἔλεγεν was saying αὐτοῖς· to them, Τί What οὖν then θέλετε do you wish [that] ποιήσω I should do ὅν to Him λέγετε you call τόν the Βασιλέα King τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων; Jews? οἱ - δέ And πάλιν again ἔκραξαν· they cried out, Σταύρωσον Crucify αὐτόν. Him! ὁ - δέ And Πιλᾶτος Pilate ἔλεγεν was saying αὐτοῖς· to them, Τί What γάρ indeed ἐποίησεν did He commit κακόν; evil? οἱ - δέ But περισσῶς much more ἔκραξαν· they shouted, Σταύρωσον Crucify αὐτόν. Him!
ὁ - δέ And Πιλᾶτος Pilate, βουλόμενος desiring τῷ to the ὄχλῳ crowd τό that which [was] ἱκανόν satisfactory ποιῆσαι to do, ἀπέλυσεν released αὐτοῖς to them τόν - Βαραββᾶν, Barabbas, καί and παρέδωκεν he delivered τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus, φραγελλώσας having flogged [him], ἵνα that σταυρωθῇ. He might be crucified.
οἱ - δέ And στρατιῶται the soldiers ἀπήγαγον led away αὐτόν him ἔσω into τῆς the αὐλῆς, palace, ὅ that ἐστίν is Πραιτώριον, [the] Praetorium, καί and συνκαλοῦσιν they call together ὅλην all τήν the σπεῖραν. cohort. καί And ἐνδιδύσκουσιν they put on αὐτόν Him πορφύραν purple, καί and περιτιθέασιν placed on αὐτῷ Him, πλέξαντες having twisted together ἀκάνθινον of thorns στέφανον· a crown, καί and ἤρξαντο they began ἀσπάζεσθαι to salute αὐτόν· Him, Χαῖρε, Hail, Βασιλεῦ King τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων· Jews! Καί And ἔτυπτον they kept striking αὐτοῦ His τήν - κεφαλήν head καλάμῳ with a reed, καί and ἐνέπτυον spitting on αὐτῷ Him; καί and, τιθέντες bending τά the γόνατα knees, προσεκύνουν they were kneeling down αὐτῷ. to Him. καί And ὅτε when ἐνέπαιξαν they had mocked αὐτῷ, Him, ἐξέδυσαν they took off αὐτόν him τήν the πορφύραν purple καί and ἐνέδυσαν put on αὐτόν Him τά the ἱμάτια garments αὐτοῦ. Καί And ἐξάγουσιν they are leading out αὐτόν him, ἵνα that σταυρώσωσιν they might crucify αὐτόν. Him. Καί And ἀγγαρεύουσιν they compel, παράγοντα passing by τινά one, Σίμωνα Simon Κυρηναῖον of Cyrene, ἐρχόμενον coming ἀπ ̓ from ἀγροῦ, the country, τόν the πατέρα father Ἀλεξάνδρου of Alexander καί and Ῥούφου, Rufus, ἵνα that ἄρῃ he might carry τόν the σταυρόν cross αὐτοῦ. of Him.
Καί And φέρουσιν they bring αὐτόν Him ἐπί to τόν - Γολγοθᾶν Golgotha, τόπον, a place ὅ which ἐστίν is μεθερμηνευόμενον translated, Κρανίου of a Skull τόπος. Place. καί And ἐδίδουν they were offering αὐτῷ Him, ἐσμυρνισμένον having been mixed with myrrh, οἶνον· wine; ὅς He δέ however οὐ not ἔλαβεν. did take [it]. Καί And σταυροῦσιν having crucified αὐτόν Him, καί also διαμερίζονται they divided τά the ἱμάτια garments αὐτοῦ of Him, βάλλοντες casting κλῆρον lots ἐπ ̓ for αὐτά them, τίς who τί what ἄρῃ. should take.
