Ἠκούσατε You have heard ὅτι that ἐρρέθη· it was said, Ὀφθαλμόν Eye ἀντί for ὀφθαλμοῦ eye, καί and ὀδόντα tooth ἀντί for ὀδόντος. tooth.’ ἐγώ I δέ however λέγω say ὑμῖν to you, μή not ἀντιστῆναι to resist τῷ the πονηρῷ· evil [person]. ἀλλ ̓ Instead, ὅστις whoever σε you ῥαπίζει shall strike εἰς on τήν the δεξιάν right σιαγόνα cheek σου, of you, στρέψον turn αὐτῷ to him καί also τήν the ἄλλην· other; καί and τῷ to the one θέλοντι willing σοι you κριθῆναι to sue καί and τόν the χιτῶνα tunic σου of you λαβεῖν, to take, ἄφες yield αὐτῷ to him καί also τό the ἱμάτιον· cloak; καί and ὅστις whoever σε you ἀγγαρεύσει shall compel to go μίλιον mile ἕν, one, ὕπαγε go μετ ̓ with αὐτοῦ him δύο. two. τῷ To the [one] αἰτοῦντι asking of σε you, δός, give; καί and τόν the [one] θέλοντα desiring ἀπό from σοῦ you δανίσασθαι to borrow, μή not ἀποστραφῇς. you shall turn away from.
Ἠκούσατε You have heard ὅτι that ἐρρέθη· it was said, Ἀγαπήσεις You shall love τόν - πλησίον neighbor σου of you καί and μισήσεις shall hate τόν - ἐχθρόν enemy σου. of you.’ ἐγώ I δέ however λέγω say ὑμῖν· to you, ἀγαπᾶτε love τούς the ἐχθρούς enemies ὑμῶν of you, καί and προσεύχεσθε pray ὑπέρ for τῶν those διωκόντων persecuting ὑμᾶς, you, ὅπως so that γένησθε you may be υἱοί sons τοῦ of the Πατρός Father ὑμῶν of you τοῦ who is ἐν in οὐρανοῖς, [the] heavens. ὅτι For τόν the ἥλιον sun αὐτοῦ of Him ἀνατέλλει He makes rise ἐπί on πονηρούς evil καί and ἀγαθούς good, καί and βρέχει He sends rain ἐπί on δικαίους righteous καί and ἀδίκους. unrighteous. ἐάν If γάρ for ἀγαπήσητε you love τούς those ἀγαπῶντας loving ὑμᾶς, you, τίνα what μισθόν reward ἔχετε; have you? οὐχί Do not καί also οἱ the τελῶναι tax collectors τό the αὐτό same ποιοῦσιν; do? καί And ἐάν if ἀσπάσησθε you greet τούς the ἀδελφούς brothers ὑμῶν of you μόνον, only, τί what περισσόν extraordinary ποιεῖτε; do you? οὐχί Do not καί also οἱ the ἐθνικοί Gentiles τό the αὐτό same ποιοῦσιν; do? Ἔσεσθε Shall be οὖν therefore ὑμεῖς you τέλειοι perfect, ὡς as ὁ the Πατήρ Father ὑμῶν of you ὁ who [is] οὐράνιος Heavenly, τέλειος perfect ἐστίν. is.
Προσέχετε Beware δέ now τήν the δικαιοσύνην righteousness ὑμῶν of you μή not ποιεῖν to do ἔμπροσθεν before τῶν - ἀνθρώπων men πρός in order τό - θεαθῆναι to be seen αὐτοῖς· by them; εἰ if δέ now μή γέ, otherwise, μισθόν reward οὐ not ἔχετε have you παρά with τῷ the Πατρί Father ὑμῶν of you τῷ who [is] ἐν in τοῖς the οὐρανοῖς. heavens. Ὅταν When οὖν therefore ποιῇς you do ἐλεημοσύνην, acts of charity, μή not σαλπίσῃς do sound a trumpet ἔμπροσθεν before σου, you, ὥσπερ as οἱ the ὑποκριταί hypocrites ποιοῦσιν do ἐν in ταῖς the συναγωγαῖς synagogues καί and ἐν in ταῖς the ῥύμαις, streets, ὅπως so that δοξασθῶσιν they may have glory ὑπό from τῶν - ἀνθρώπων· men. ἀμήν Truly λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, ἀπέχουσιν they have τόν the μισθόν reward αὐτῶν. of them. σοῦ You δέ however ποιοῦντος doing ἐλεημοσύνην charity, μή not γνώτω let know ἡ the ἀριστερά left [hand] σου of you τί what ποιεῖ is doing ἡ the δεξιά right hand σου, of you, ὅπως so that ᾖ may be σου your ἡ - ἐλεημοσύνη giving ἐν in τῷ - κρυπτῷ· secret. καί And ὁ the Πατήρ Father σου of you, ὁ the [One] βλέπων seeing ἐν in τῷ - κρυπτῷ secret, ἀποδώσει will reward σοι. you. Καί And ὅταν when προσεύχησθε, you pray, οὐ not ἔσεσθε you shall be ὡς like οἱ the ὑποκριταί, hypocrites, ὅτι for φιλοῦσιν they love ἐν in ταῖς the συναγωγαῖς synagogues καί and ἐν on ταῖς the γωνίαις corners τῶν of the πλατειῶν streets ἑστῶτες standing προσεύχεσθαι, to pray, ὅπως so that φανῶσιν they might be seen τοῖς - ἀνθρώποις· by men. ἀμήν Truly λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, ἀπέχουσιν they have τόν the μισθόν reward αὐτῶν. of them. σύ You δέ however, ὅταν when προσεύχῃ, you pray, εἴσελθε enter εἰς into τό the ταμεῖον room σου of you, καί and κλείσας having shut τήν the θύραν door σου of you, πρόσευξαι pray τῷ to Πατρί Father σου of you, τῷ the [One] ἐν in τῷ - κρυπτῷ· secret. καί And ὁ the Πατήρ Father σου of you, ὁ the [One] βλέπων seeing ἐν in τῷ - κρυπτῷ secret, ἀποδώσει will reward σοι. you. Προσευχόμενοι Praying δέ now μή not βατταλογήσητε do use vain repetitions, ὥσπερ like οἱ the ἐθνικοί, pagans, δοκοῦσιν they think γάρ for ὅτι that ἐν in τῇ the πολυλογίᾳ many words αὐτῶν of them εἰσακουσθήσονται. they will be heard. μή Not οὖν therefore ὁμοιωθῆτε be like αὐτοῖς· to them, οἶδεν knows γάρ for ὁ the Πατήρ Father ὑμῶν of you ὧν of what things χρείαν need ἔχετε you have, πρό before τοῦ - ὑμᾶς your αἰτῆσαι asking αὐτόν. Him.
Οὕτως Thus οὖν therefore προσεύχεσθε pray ὑμεῖς· you: Πάτερ Father ἡμῶν of us, ὁ who [is] ἐν in τοῖς the οὐρανοῖς· heavens, Ἁγιασθήτω hallowed be τό the ὄνομα name σου· of You. Ἐλθέτω Come ἡ the βασιλεία kingdom σου· of You; Γενηθήτω be done τό the θέλημα will σου, of You, ὡς as ἐν in οὐρανῷ heaven, καί [so] also ἐπί upon γῆς· earth. Τόν The ἄρτον bread ἡμῶν of us τόν - ἐπιούσιον daily δός grant ἡμῖν us σήμερον· today. Καί And ἄφες forgive ἡμῖν us τά the ὀφειλήματα debts ἡμῶν, of us, ὡς as καί also ἡμεῖς we ἀφήκαμεν forgive τοῖς the ὀφειλέταις debtors ἡμῶν· of us; Καί And μή not εἰσενέγκῃς lead ἡμᾶς us εἰς into πειρασμόν, temptation, Ἀλλά but ῥῦσαι deliver ἡμᾶς us ἀπό from τοῦ - πονηροῦ. evil.’
Ἐάν If γάρ for ἀφῆτε you forgive τοῖς - ἀνθρώποις men τά the παραπτώματα trespasses αὐτῶν, of them, ἀφήσει will forgive καί also ὑμῖν you ὁ the Πατήρ Father ὑμῶν of you ὁ - οὐράνιος· Heavenly. ἐάν If δέ however μή not ἀφῆτε you forgive τοῖς - ἀνθρώποις, men, οὐδέ neither ὁ the Πατήρ Father ὑμῶν of you ἀφήσει will forgive τά the παραπτώματα trespasses ὑμῶν. of you.
Ὅταν Whenever δέ now νηστεύητε, you fast, μή not γίνεσθε be ὡς like οἱ the ὑποκριταί hypocrites, σκυθρωποί, gloomy; ἀφανίζουσιν they disfigure γάρ for τά the πρόσωπα appearance αὐτῶν of them, ὅπως so that φανῶσιν they might appear τοῖς - ἀνθρώποις to men νηστεύοντες· [as] fasting. ἀμήν Truly λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you, ἀπέχουσιν they have τόν the μισθόν reward αὐτῶν. of them. σύ You δέ however, νηστεύων fasting, ἄλειψαι anoint σου your τήν - κεφαλήν head καί and τό the πρόσωπον face σου of you νίψαι, wash, ὅπως so that μή not φανῇς you might appear τοῖς - ἀνθρώποις to men νηστεύων [as] fasting, ἀλλά but τῷ - Πατρί to Father σου your τῷ the [One] ἐν in τῷ - κρυφαίῳ· secret; καί and ὁ the Πατήρ Father σου of you, ὁ the [One] βλέπων seeing ἐν in τῷ - κρυφαίῳ secret, ἀποδώσει will reward σοι. you. Μή Not θησαυρίζετε store up ὑμῖν for yourselves θησαυρούς treasures ἐπί upon τῆς the γῆς, earth, ὅπου where σής moth καί and βρῶσις rust ἀφανίζει destroy, καί and ὅπου where κλέπται thieves διορύσσουσιν break in καί and κλέπτουσιν· steal; θησαυρίζετε store up δέ however ὑμῖν for yourselves θησαυρούς treasures ἐν in οὐρανῷ, heaven, ὅπου where οὔτε neither σής moth οὔτε nor βρῶσις rust ἀφανίζει destroy, καί and ὅπου where κλέπται thieves οὐ not διορύσσουσιν do break in οὐδέ nor κλέπτουσιν· steal. ὅπου Where γάρ for ἐστίν is ὁ the θησαυρός treasure σου, of you, ἐκεῖ there ἔσται will be καί also ἡ the καρδία heart σου. of you.
ὁ The λύχνος lamp τοῦ of the σώματος body ἐστίν is ὁ the ὀφθαλμός. eye. ἐάν If οὖν therefore ᾖ is ὁ the ὀφθαλμός eye σου of you ἁπλοῦς, clear, ὅλον [the] whole τό - σῶμα body σου of you φωτεινόν full of light ἔσται· will be. ἐάν If δέ however ὁ the ὀφθαλμός eye σου of you πονηρός evil ᾖ, is, ὅλον all τό the σῶμα body σου of you σκοτεινόν full of darkness ἔσται. will be. εἰ If οὖν then τό the φῶς light τό that [is] ἐν within σοί you σκότος darkness ἐστίν, is, τό that σκότος darkness πόσον. how great!
Οὐδείς No one δύναται is able δυσί two κυρίοις masters δουλεύειν· to serve; ἤ either γάρ for τόν the ἕνα one μισήσει he will hate, καί and τόν the ἕτερον other ἀγαπήσει, he will love; ἤ or ἑνός [the] one ἀνθέξεται he will be devoted to, καί and τοῦ the ἑτέρου other καταφρονήσει. he will despise. οὐ Not δύνασθε you are able Θεῷ God δουλεύειν to serve, καί and μαμωνᾷ. money.
Διά Because of τοῦτο this λέγω I say ὑμῖν· to you, μή not μεριμνᾶτε be anxious about τῇ the ψυχῇ life ὑμῶν of you, τί what φάγητε you should eat ἤ or τί what πίητε, you should drink; μηδέ nor τῷ the σώματι body ὑμῶν of you, τί what ἐνδύσησθε. you should put on. οὐχί Not ἡ the ψυχή life πλεῖον more ἐστίν is τῆς than the τροφῆς food, καί and τό the σῶμα body τοῦ than ἐνδύματος; clothing? ἐμβλέψατε Look εἰς at τά the πετεινά birds τοῦ of the οὐρανοῦ air, ὅτι that οὐ not σπείρουσιν they sow, οὐδέ nor θερίζουσιν do they reap, οὐδέ nor συνάγουσιν do they gather εἰς into ἀποθήκας, barns — καί and ὁ the Πατήρ Father ὑμῶν of you ὁ - οὐράνιος Heavenly τρέφει feeds αὐτά· them. οὐ Not ὑμεῖς you μᾶλλον much διαφέρετε are more valuable αὐτῶν; than they? τίς Who δέ now ἐκ from ὑμῶν you μεριμνῶν being anxious δύναται is able προσθεῖναι to add ἐπί to τήν the ἡλικίαν lifespan αὐτοῦ of him πῆχυν hour ἕνα; one? Καί And περί about ἐνδύματος clothing τί why μεριμνᾶτε; are you anxious? καταμάθετε Observe τά the κρίνα lilies τοῦ of the ἀγροῦ field, πῶς how αὐξάνουσιν· they grow: οὐ [They do] not κοπιῶσιν labor οὐδέ nor νήθουσιν· do they spin. λέγω I say δέ however ὑμῖν to you ὅτι that οὐδέ not even Σολομών Solomon ἐν in πάσῃ all τῇ the δόξῃ glory αὐτοῦ of him περιεβάλετο was adorned ὡς like ἕν one τούτων. of these. εἰ If δέ however τόν the χόρτον grass τοῦ of the ἀγροῦ field, σήμερον today ὄντα being [here], καί and αὔριον tomorrow εἰς into κλίβανον the furnace βαλλόμενον being thrown, ὁ - Θεός God οὕτως thus ἀμφιέννυσιν, clothes, οὐ [will He] not πολλῷ much μᾶλλον more ὑμᾶς, you, ὀλιγόπιστοι; O [you] of little faith? Μή Not οὖν therefore μεριμνήσητε be anxious, λέγοντες· saying, Τί What φάγωμεν; shall we eat? ἤ· Or Τί what πίωμεν; shall we drink? ἤ· Or Τί what περιβαλώμεθα; shall we wear? πάντα All γάρ for ταῦτα these things τά the ἔθνη Gentiles ἐπιζητοῦσιν· seek after; οἶδεν knows γάρ for ὁ the Πατήρ Father ὑμῶν of you ὁ - οὐράνιος Heavenly ὅτι that χρῄζετε you have need τούτων of them ἁπάντων. all. ζητεῖτε Seek δέ however πρῶτον first τήν the βασιλείαν kingdom τοῦ of θεοῦ God καί and τήν the δικαιοσύνην righteousness αὐτοῦ, of Him, καί and ταῦτα these things πάντα all προστεθήσεται will be added ὑμῖν. to you.
