ὁ - δέ And Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐστάθη stood ἔμπροσθεν before τοῦ the ἡγεμόνος· governor; καί and ἐπηρώτησεν questioned αὐτόν Him ὁ the ἡγεμών governor, λέγων· saying, Σύ You εἶ are ὁ the Βασιλεύς King τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων; Jews? ὁ - δέ And Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἔφη· said, Σύ You λέγεις. say. Καί And ἐν in τῷ - κατηγορεῖσθαι being accused αὐτόν His ὑπό by τῶν the ἀρχιερέων chief priests καί and πρεσβυτέρων elders, οὐδέν nothing ἀπεκρίνατο. He answered. Τότε Then λέγει says αὐτῷ to Him ὁ - Πιλᾶτος· Pilate, οὐκ Not ἀκούεις do you hear πόσα how many things σου You καταμαρτυροῦσιν; they witness against? Καί And οὐ not ἀπεκρίθη He did answer αὐτῷ him, πρός to οὐδέ not even ἕν one ῥῆμα, word, ὥστε so as θαυμάζειν to amaze τόν the ἡγεμόνα governor λίαν. exceedingly.
Κατά At δέ now ἑορτήν [the] feast, εἰώθει was accustomed ὁ the ἡγεμών governor ἀπολύειν to release ἕνα one τῷ to the ὄχλῳ multitude δέσμιον prisoner, ὅν whom ἤθελον. they were wishing. εἶχον They were holding δέ now τότε at that time δέσμιον a prisoner ἐπίσημον notable, λεγόμενον called Ἰησοῦν Jesus Βαραββᾶν. Barabbas. συνηγμένων Being gathered together οὖν therefore αὐτῶν of them, εἶπεν said αὐτοῖς to them ὁ - Πιλᾶτος· Pilate, Τίνα Whom θέλετε will you [that] ἀπολύσω I shall release ὑμῖν, to you? Ἰησοῦν Jesus τόν - Βαραββᾶν Barabbas, ἤ or Ἰησοῦν Jesus, τόν who λεγόμενον is called Χριστόν; Christ? ᾔδει He knew γάρ for ὅτι that διά through φθόνον envy παρέδωκαν they delivered up αὐτόν. him.
Καθημένου As was sitting δέ now αὐτοῦ he ἐπί on τοῦ the βήματος judgment seat, ἀπέστειλεν sent πρός to αὐτόν him ἡ the γυνή wife αὐτοῦ of him, λέγουσα· saying, Μηδέν [Let there be] nothing σοί between you καί and τῷ the δικαίῳ righteous [man] ἐκείνῳ· that; πολλά many things γάρ for ἔπαθον I suffered σήμερον today κατ ̓ in ὄναρ a dream δι ̓ because of αὐτόν. οἱ - δέ And ἀρχιερεῖς the chief priests καί and οἱ the πρεσβύτεροι elders ἔπεισαν persuaded τούς the ὄχλους crowds ἵνα that αἰτήσωνται they should ask for τόν - Βαραββᾶν, Barabbas, τόν - δέ and Ἰησοῦν Jesus ἀπολέσωσιν. should destroy. Ἀποκριθείς Answering δέ now, ὁ the ἡγεμών governor εἶπεν said αὐτοῖς· to them, Τίνα Which θέλετε do you desire ἀπό of τῶν the δύο two, ἀπολύσω I release ὑμῖν; to you? οἱ - δέ And εἶπαν· they said, Τόν - Βαραββᾶν. Barabbas. Λέγει Says αὐτοῖς to them ὁ - Πιλᾶτος· Pilate, Τί What οὖν then ποιήσω should I do with Ἰησοῦν Jesus, τόν who λεγόμενον is called Χριστόν; Christ? Λέγουσιν They say πάντες· all, Σταυρωθήτω. Let [Him] be crucified. ὁ - δέ And ἔφη· he said, Τί What γάρ for κακόν evil ἐποίησεν; did He commit? οἱ - δέ And περισσῶς all the more ἔκραζον they kept crying out, λέγοντες· saying, Σταυρωθήτω. Let [Him] be crucified.
Ἰδών Having seen δέ now ὁ - Πιλᾶτος Pilate ὅτι that οὐδέν nothing ὠφελεῖ it availed, ἀλλά but μᾶλλον rather θόρυβος a riot γίνεται, is arising, λαβών having taken ὕδωρ water, ἀπενίψατο he washed τάς the χεῖρας hands ἀπέναντι before τοῦ the ὄχλου crowd, λέγων· saying, Ἀθῷος Guiltless εἰμί I am ἀπό of τοῦ the αἵματος blood τούτου· of this. ὑμεῖς For yourselves ὄψεσθε. you will see.” Καί And ἀποκριθείς answering, πᾶς all ὁ the λαός people εἶπεν· said, Τό The αἷμα blood αὐτοῦ of Him ἐφ ̓ [be] on ἡμᾶς us, καί and ἐπί on τά the τέκνα children ἡμῶν. of us. Τότε Then ἀπέλυσεν he released αὐτοῖς to them τόν - Βαραββᾶν, Barabbas; τόν - δέ and Ἰησοῦν Jesus φραγελλώσας having flogged, παρέδωκεν He delivered up [Him], ἵνα that σταυρωθῇ. He might be crucified.
Τότε Then οἱ the στρατιῶται soldiers τοῦ of the ἡγεμόνος governor, παραλαβόντες having taken with [them] τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus εἰς to τό the πραιτώριον Praetorium, συνήγαγον gathered ἐπ ̓ before αὐτόν Him ὅλην all τήν the σπεῖραν. cohort. καί And ἐκδύσαντες having stripped αὐτόν Him, χλαμύδα a robe κοκκίνην scarlet περιέθηκαν they put around αὐτῷ, Him. καί And πλέξαντες having twisted together στέφανον a crown ἐκ of ἀκανθῶν thorns, ἐπέθηκαν they put [it] ἐπί on τῆς the κεφαλῆς head αὐτοῦ of Him, καί and κάλαμον a reed ἐν in τῇ the δεξιᾷ right hand αὐτοῦ, of Him; καί and γονυπετήσαντες having bowed the knees ἔμπροσθεν before αὐτοῦ Him, ἐνέπαιξαν they mocked αὐτῷ Him, λέγοντες· saying, Χαῖρε, Hail, Βασιλεῦ King τῶν of the Ἰουδαίων, Jews! καί And ἐμπτύσαντες having spit εἰς upon αὐτόν Him, ἔλαβον they took τόν the κάλαμον reed καί and ἔτυπτον kept striking [Him] εἰς on τήν the κεφαλήν head αὐτοῦ. of Him. Καί And ὅτε when ἐνέπαιξαν they had mocked αὐτῷ, Him, ἐξέδυσαν they took off αὐτόν Him τήν the χλαμύδα robe, καί and ἐνέδυσαν they put on αὐτόν Him τά the ἱμάτια garments αὐτοῦ of Him καί and ἀπήγαγον led away αὐτόν Him εἰς to τό - σταυρῶσαι. crucify [Him]. Ἐξερχόμενοι Going forth δέ now, εὗρον they found ἄνθρωπον a man Κυρηναῖον of Cyrene, ὀνόματι named Σίμωνα, Simon. τοῦτον Him ἠγγάρευσαν they compelled ἵνα that ἄρῃ he might carry τόν the σταυρόν cross αὐτοῦ. of Him.
Καί And ἐλθόντες having come εἰς to τόπον a place λεγόμενον called Γολγοθᾶ, Golgotha, ὅ which ἐστίν is κρανίου of a Skull τόπος Place λεγόμενος, called, ἔδωκαν they gave αὐτῷ Him πιεῖν to drink οἶνον wine μετά with χολῆς gall μεμιγμένον· mingled; καί and γευσάμενος having tasted, οὐ not ἠθέλησεν He was willing πιεῖν. to drink [it]. Σταυρώσαντες Having crucified δέ now αὐτόν Him, διεμερίσαντο they divided τά the ἱμάτια garments αὐτοῦ of Him, βάλλοντες casting κλῆρον, lots. καί And καθήμενοι sitting down, ἐτήρουν they were guarding αὐτόν Him ἐκεῖ. there. καί And ἐπέθηκαν they put up ἐπάνω over τῆς the κεφαλῆς head αὐτοῦ of Him τήν the αἰτίαν accusation αὐτοῦ of Him γεγραμμένην· written: ΟΥΤΟΣ This ΕΣΤΙΝ is ΙΗΣΟΥΣ Jesus, Ο the ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ King ΤΩΝ of the ΙΟΥΔΑΙΩΝ. Jews.
Τότε At the same time σταυροῦνται are crucified σύν with αὐτῷ Him δύο two λῃσταί, robbers, εἷς one ἐκ at [the] δεξιῶν right hand, καί and εἷς one ἐκ at [the] εὐωνύμων. left. οἱ Those δέ now παραπορευόμενοι passing by ἐβλασφήμουν kept railing at αὐτόν Him, κινοῦντες wagging τάς the κεφαλάς heads αὐτῶν of them καί and λέγοντες· saying, ὁ The [One] καταλύων destroying τόν the ναόν temple καί and ἐν in τρισίν three ἡμέραις days οἰκοδομῶν, building [it], σῶσον save σεαυτόν, Yourself! εἰ If Υἱός [the] Son εἶ You are τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God, καί also κατάβηθι descend ἀπό from τοῦ the σταυροῦ. cross! Ὁμοίως Likewise καί also οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests, ἐμπαίζοντες mocking, μετά with τῶν the γραμματέων scribes καί and πρεσβυτέρων elders, ἔλεγον· were saying, Ἄλλους Others ἔσωσεν, He saved. ἑαυτόν Himself οὐ not δύναται is He able σῶσαι· to save. Βασιλεύς King Ἰσραήλ of Israel ἐστίν, He is. καταβάτω Let Him descend νῦν now ἀπό from τοῦ the σταυροῦ cross, καί and πιστεύσομεν we will believe ἐπ ̓ in αὐτόν. Him. πέποιθεν He trusted ἐπί on τόν - Θεόν, God. ῥυσάσθω Let Him deliver νῦν now εἰ if θέλει He wants αὐτόν· Him. εἶπεν He said γάρ for ὅτι -, Θεοῦ Of God εἰμί I am Υἱός. [the] Son. Τό - δ ̓ And αὐτό likewise καί even οἱ the λῃσταί robbers, οἱ those συσταυρωθέντες having been crucified σύν with αὐτῷ Him, ὠνείδιζον were upbraiding αὐτόν. Him.
Ἀπό From δέ then ἕκτης [the] sixth ὥρας hour, σκότος darkness ἐγένετο was ἐπί over πᾶσαν all τήν the γῆν land, ἕως until ὥρας [the] hour ἐνάτης. ninth. περί About δέ then τήν the ἐνάτην ninth ὥραν hour, ἀνεβόησεν cried out ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus φωνῇ in a voice μεγάλῃ loud, λέγων· saying, Ἠλί Eli, ἠλί Eli, λεμά lema σαβαχθάνι; sabachthani?
τοῦτ ̓ That ἔστιν· is, Θεέ God μου of Me, θεέ God μου, of Me, ἵνατι so that why με Me ἐγκατέλιπες; have you forsaken?” Τινές Some δέ then τῶν of those who ἐκεῖ there ἑστηκότων were standing, ἀκούσαντες having heard, ἔλεγον began saying ὅτι -, Ἠλίαν Elijah φωνεῖ calls οὗτος. this [man]. καί And εὐθέως immediately, δραμών having run εἷς one ἐκ of αὐτῶν them καί and λαβών having taken σπόγγον a sponge, πλήσας having filled [it] τέ and ὄξους with vinegar καί and περιθείς having put [it] on καλάμῳ a reed, ἐπότιζεν gave to drink αὐτόν. Him. οἱ - δέ And λοιποί the rest ἔλεγον· were saying, Ἄφες Let be. ἴδωμεν Let us see εἰ whether ἔρχεται comes Ἠλίας Elijah σώσων to save αὐτόν. Him. ὁ - δέ And Ἰησοῦς Jesus πάλιν again, κράξας having cried φωνῇ in a voice μεγάλῃ loud, ἀφῆκεν yielded up τό [His] πνεῦμα. spirit.
Καί And ἰδού behold, τό the καταπέτασμα veil τοῦ of the ναοῦ temple ἐσχίσθη was torn ἀπ ̓ from ἄνωθεν top ἕως to κάτω bottom, εἰς into δύο two; καί and ἡ the γῆ earth ἐσείσθη was shaken, καί and αἱ the πέτραι rocks ἐσχίσθησαν, were split, καί and τά the μνημεῖα tombs ἀνεῴχθησαν were opened, καί and πολλά many σώματα bodies τῶν of the κεκοιμημένων having fallen asleep ἁγίων saints ἠγέρθησαν, arose, καί and ἐξελθόντες having gone forth ἐκ out of τῶν the μνημείων tombs μετά after τήν the ἔγερσιν resurrection αὐτοῦ of Him, εἰσῆλθον they entered εἰς into τήν the ἁγίαν holy πόλιν city καί and ἐνεφανίσθησαν appeared πολλοῖς. to many.
ὁ - δέ And ἑκατόνταρχος the centurion καί and οἱ those μετ ̓ with αὐτοῦ him τηροῦντες keeping guard over τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus, ἰδόντες having seen τόν the σεισμόν earthquake καί and τά the things γενόμενα taking place, ἐφοβήθησαν feared σφόδρα, greatly, λέγοντες· saying, Ἀληθῶς Truly Θεοῦ God’s Υἱός Son ἦν was οὗτος. this.
Ἦσαν They were δέ now ἐκεῖ there γυναῖκες women πολλαί many ἀπό from μακρόθεν afar off, θεωροῦσαι, looking on, αἵτινες who ἠκολούθησαν followed τῷ - Ἰησοῦ Jesus ἀπό from τῆς - Γαλιλαίας Galilee, διακονοῦσαι ministering αὐτῷ· to Him, ἐν among αἷς whom ἦν was Μαρία Mary ἡ - Μαγδαληνή Magdalene, καί and Μαρία Mary ἡ the τοῦ - Ἰακώβου of James καί and Ἰωσήφ Joseph μήτηρ mother, καί and ἡ the μήτηρ mother τῶν of the υἱῶν sons Ζεβεδαίου. of Zebedee.
Ὀψίας Evening δέ now γενομένης having arrived, ἦλθεν came ἄνθρωπος a man πλούσιος rich ἀπό from Ἁριμαθαίας, Arimathea, τοὔνομα named Ἰωσήφ, Joseph, ὅς who καί also αὐτός himself ἐμαθητεύθη was discipled τῷ - Ἰησοῦ· to Jesus. οὗτος He προσελθών having gone τῷ - Πιλάτῳ to Pilate, ᾐτήσατο asked for τό the σῶμα body τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ. of Jesus. τότε Then ὁ - Πιλᾶτος Pilate ἐκέλευσεν commanded it ἀποδοθῆναι. to be given up. καί And λαβών having taken τό the σῶμα body, ὁ - Ἰωσήφ Joseph ἐνετύλιξεν wrapped αὐτό it ἐν in σινδόνι a linen cloth καθαρᾷ clean καί and ἔθηκεν placed αὐτό it ἐν in τῷ the καινῷ new αὐτοῦ of him μνημείῳ tomb, ὅ which ἐλατόμησεν he had cut ἐν in τῇ the πέτρᾳ rock; καί and προσκυλίσας having rolled λίθον a stone μέγαν great τῇ to the θύρᾳ door τοῦ of the μνημείου tomb, ἀπῆλθεν. he went away. Ἦν Was δέ now ἐκεῖ there Μαριάμ Mary ἡ - Μαγδαληνή Magdalene, καί and ἡ the ἄλλη other Μαρία Mary, καθήμεναι sitting ἀπέναντι opposite τοῦ the τάφου. tomb.
Τῇ - δέ And ἐπαύριον, the next day, ἥτις which ἐστίν is μετά after τήν the Παρασκευήν, Preparation, συνήχθησαν were gathered together οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and οἱ the Φαρισαῖοι Pharisees πρός before Πιλᾶτον Pilate, λέγοντες· saying, Κύριε, Sir, ἐμνήσθημεν we have remembered ὅτι how ἐκεῖνος that ὁ - πλάνος deceiver εἶπεν said ἔτι while ζῶν· living, Μετά After τρεῖς three ἡμέρας days ἐγείρομαι.
