Τότε Then συνήχθησαν were gathered together οἱ the ἀρχιερεῖς chief priests καί and οἱ the πρεσβύτεροι elders τοῦ of the λαοῦ people εἰς in τήν the αὐλήν courtyard τοῦ of the ἀρχιερέως high priest, τοῦ who λεγομένου is called Καϊάφα Caiaphas, καί and συνεβουλεύσαντο they plotted together, ἵνα in order that τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus δόλῳ by guile κρατήσωσιν they might seize καί and ἀποκτείνωσιν· kill. ἔλεγον They were saying δέ· however, Μή Not ἐν during τῇ the ἑορτῇ, feast, ἵνα that μή not θόρυβος a riot γένηται there be ἐν among τῷ the λαῷ. people.

Τοῦ - δέ And Ἰησοῦ of Jesus γενομένου having been ἐν in Βηθανίᾳ Bethany ἐν in [the] οἰκίᾳ house Σίμωνος of Simon τοῦ the λεπροῦ, leper, προσῆλθεν came αὐτῷ to Him γυνή a woman, ἔχουσα having ἀλάβαστρον an alabaster flask μύρου fragrant oil βαρυτίμου very costly, καί and κατέχεεν poured [it] ἐπί on τῆς the κεφαλῆς head αὐτοῦ of Him ἀνακειμένου. Ἰδόντες Having seen δέ then, οἱ the μαθηταί disciples ἠγανάκτησαν became indignant, λέγοντες· saying, εἰς For what τί purpose ἡ [is] the ἀπώλεια waste αὕτη; this? ἐδύνατο Could γάρ for τοῦτο this πραθῆναι have been sold πολλοῦ for much, καί and δοθῆναι have been given πτωχοῖς. to [the] poor. Ὀψίας Evening δέ now γενομένης having arrived, ἀνέκειτο He was reclining μετά with τῶν the δώδεκα. twelve. καί And [as] ἐσθιόντων they were eating, αὐτῶν to them εἶπεν· He said, Ἀμήν Truly λέγω I say ὑμῖν to you ὅτι that εἷς one ἐκ of ὑμῶν you παραδώσει will betray με. Me. Καί And λυπούμενοι being grieved σφόδρα exceedingly, ἤρξαντο they began λέγειν to say αὐτῷ to Him, εἷς one ἕκαστος· each, Μήτι Not ἐγώ I εἰμί, is it, Κύριε; Lord? ὁ - δέ And ἀποκριθείς answering εἶπεν· He said, ὁ The [one] ἐμβάψας having dipped μετ ̓ with ἐμοῦ Me τήν the χεῖρα hand ἐν in τῷ the τρυβλίῳ dish, οὗτος he με Me παραδώσει. will betray. ὁ - μέν Indeed Υἱός the Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man ὑπάγει goes καθώς as γέγραπται it has been written περί about αὐτοῦ, Him; οὐαί woe δέ however τῷ - ἀνθρώπῳ the man ἐκείνῳ to that δι ̓ by οὗ whom ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - ἀνθρώπου of Man παραδίδοται· is betrayed. καλόν Better ἦν would it be αὐτῷ for him εἰ if οὐ not ἐγεννήθη had been born ὁ the ἄνθρωπος man ἐκεῖνος. that. Ἐσθιόντων [As] they were eating δέ now αὐτῶν of them, λαβών having taken ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἄρτον bread, καί and εὐλογήσας having blessed, ἔκλασεν broke [it], καί and δούς having given τοῖς to the μαθηταῖς disciples, εἶπεν· He said, Λάβετε Take, φάγετε, eat; τοῦτο this ἐστίν is τό the σῶμα body μου. of Me. Καί And λαβών having taken ποτήριον a cup καί and εὐχαριστήσας having given thanks, ἔδωκεν He gave [it] αὐτοῖς to them, λέγων· saying, Πίετε Drink ἐκ of αὐτοῦ it, πάντες, all of you. τοῦτο This γάρ for ἐστίν is τό the αἷμα blood μου of Me, τῆς of the διαθήκης covenant, τό - περί for πολλῶν many ἐκχυννόμενον being poured out εἰς for ἄφεσιν forgiveness ἁμαρτιῶν. of sins. λέγω I say δέ now ὑμῖν, to you, οὐ no μή not πίω will I drink, ἀπ ̓ from ἄρτι now, ἐκ of τούτου this τοῦ the γενήματος fruit τῆς of the ἀμπέλου vine, ἕως until τῆς the ἡμέρας day ἐκείνης that, ὅταν when αὐτό it πίνω I drink μεθ ̓ with ὑμῶν you καινόν anew ἐν in τῇ the βασιλείᾳ kingdom τοῦ of the Πατρός Father μου. of Me. Τότε Then λέγει says αὐτοῖς to them ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Πάντες All ὑμεῖς you σκανδαλισθήσεσθε will fall away ἐν because of ἐμοί Me ἐν during τῇ the νυκτί night ταύτῃ, this. γέγραπται It has been written γάρ· for: Πατάξω I will strike τόν the ποιμένα, shepherd, Καί and διασκορπισθήσονται will be scattered τά the πρόβατα sheep τῆς of the ποίμνης. flock.’

Μετά After δέ however τό - ἐγερθῆναι being raised, με I προάξω will go before ὑμᾶς you εἰς into τήν - Γαλιλαίαν. Galilee. Ἀποκριθείς Answering δέ now, ὁ - Πέτρος Peter εἶπεν said αὐτῷ· to Him, εἰ If πάντες all σκανδαλισθήσονται will fall away ἐν because of σοί, You, ἐγώ I οὐδέποτε never σκανδαλισθήσομαι. will fall away. Ἔφη Said αὐτῷ to him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Ἀμήν Truly λέγω I say σοι to you ὅτι that ἐν during ταύτῃ this τῇ - νυκτί night, πρίν before [the] ἀλέκτορα rooster φωνῆσαι crowing, τρίς three times ἀπαρνήσῃ you will deny με. Me. Τότε Then ἔρχεται comes μετ ̓ with αὐτῶν them ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἰς to χωρίον a place λεγόμενον called Γεθσημανί Gethsemane, καί and λέγει He says τοῖς to the μαθηταῖς· disciples, Καθίσατε Sit αὐτοῦ here, ἕως until οὗ that ἀπελθών having gone away ἐκεῖ over there, προσεύξωμαι. I shall pray. Καί And παραλαβών having taken with [Him] τόν - Πέτρον Peter καί and τούς the δύο two υἱούς sons Ζεβεδαίου of Zebedee, ἤρξατο He began λυπεῖσθαι to be sorrowful καί and ἀδημονεῖν. deeply distressed. τότε Then λέγει He says αὐτοῖς· to them, Περίλυπος Very sorrowful ἐστίν is ἡ the ψυχή soul μου of Me, ἕως even to θανάτου· death; μείνατε remain ὧδε here καί and γρηγορεῖτε watch μετ ̓ with ἐμοῦ. Me. Καί And προελθών having gone forward μικρόν a little, ἔπεσεν He fell ἐπί upon πρόσωπον face αὐτοῦ of Him, προσευχόμενος praying, καί and λέγων· saying, Πάτερ Father μου, of Me, εἰ if δυνατόν possible ἐστίν, it is, παρελθάτω let pass ἀπ ̓ from ἐμοῦ Me τό the ποτήριον cup τοῦτο· this. πλήν Nevertheless οὐ not ὡς as ἐγώ I θέλω will, ἀλλ ̓ but ὡς as σύ. You. Καί And ἔρχεται He comes πρός to τούς the μαθητάς disciples καί and εὑρίσκει finds αὐτούς them καθεύδοντας, sleeping. καί And λέγει He says τῷ - Πέτρῳ· to Peter, Οὕτως Thus οὐ not ἰσχύσατε were you able μίαν one ὥραν hour γρηγορῆσαι to watch μετ ̓ with ἐμοῦ; Me? γρηγορεῖτε Watch καί and προσεύχεσθε, pray, ἵνα that μή not εἰσέλθητε you enter εἰς into πειρασμόν· temptation. τό The μέν indeed πνεῦμα spirit πρόθυμον [is] willing, ἡ - δέ but σάρξ the flesh ἀσθενής. weak. Καί And ἔτι yet αὐτοῦ of Him λαλοῦντος as He is speaking, ἰδού behold, Ἰούδας Judas, εἷς one τῶν of the δώδεκα Twelve, ἦλθεν came, καί and μετ ̓ with αὐτοῦ him ὄχλος a crowd πολύς great, μετά with μαχαιρῶν swords καί and ξύλων clubs, ἀπό from τῶν the ἀρχιερέων chief priests καί and πρεσβυτέρων elders τοῦ of the λαοῦ. people. ὁ The [one] δέ then παραδιδούς betraying αὐτόν Him ἔδωκεν gave αὐτοῖς them σημεῖον a sign, λέγων· saying, Ὅν Whomever ἄν - φιλήσω I shall kiss, αὐτός He ἐστίν, it is; κρατήσατε seize αὐτόν. Him. καί And εὐθέως immediately προσελθών having come up τῷ - Ἰησοῦ to Jesus, εἶπεν· he said, Χαῖρε, Greetings, ῥαββί, Rabbi, καί and κατεφίλησεν kissed αὐτόν. Him. ὁ - δέ And Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν said αὐτῷ· to him, Ἑταῖρε, Friend, ἐφ ̓ for ὅ what πάρει. are you come?” Τότε Then προσελθόντες having come to [him], ἐπέβαλον they laid τάς - χεῖρας hands ἐπί on τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus καί and ἐκράτησαν seized αὐτόν. Him. καί And ἰδού behold, εἷς one τῶν of those μετά with Ἰησοῦ Jesus, ἐκτείνας having stretched out τήν the χεῖρα hand, ἀπέσπασεν drew τήν the μάχαιραν sword αὐτοῦ of him, καί and πατάξας having struck τόν the δοῦλον servant τοῦ of the ἀρχιερέως high priest, ἀφεῖλεν cut off αὐτοῦ of him τό the ὠτίον. ear. Τότε Then λέγει says αὐτῷ to him ὁ - Ἰησοῦς· Jesus, Ἀπόστρεψον Return τήν the μάχαιραν sword σου of you εἰς into τόν the τόπον place αὐτῆς· of it; πάντες all γάρ for οἱ those λαβόντες having taken μάχαιραν [the] sword, ἐν by μαχαίρῃ [the] sword ἀπολοῦνται. will perish. ἤ Or δοκεῖς think you ὅτι that οὐ not δύναμαι I am able παρακαλέσαι to call upon τόν the Πατέρα Father μου, of Me, καί and παραστήσει He will furnish μοι to Me ἄρτι presently πλείω more than δώδεκα twelve λεγιῶνας legions ἀγγέλων; of angels? πῶς How οὖν then πληρωθῶσιν should be fulfilled αἱ the γραφαί Scriptures, ὅτι that οὕτως so δεῖ it must γενέσθαι; be? ἐν In ἐκείνῃ that τῇ - ὥρᾳ hour, εἶπεν said ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus τοῖς to the ὄχλοις· crowds, ὡς As ἐπί against λῃστήν a robber ἐξήλθατε did you come out μετά with μαχαιρῶν swords καί and ξύλων clubs συλλαβεῖν to capture με; Me? καθ ̓ Every ἡμέραν day ἐν in τῷ the ἱερῷ temple ἐκαθεζόμην I was sitting διδάσκων teaching, καί and οὐ not ἐκρατήσατε you did seize με. οἱ Those δέ then κρατήσαντες having seized τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus ἀπήγαγον led [Him] away πρός to Καϊάφαν Caiaphas, τόν the ἀρχιερέα, high priest, ὅπου where οἱ the γραμματεῖς scribes καί and οἱ the πρεσβύτεροι elders συνήχθησαν. were assembled. ὁ - δέ And Πέτρος Peter ἠκολούθει was following αὐτῷ Him ἀπό from μακρόθεν afar, ἕως even τῆς to the αὐλῆς court τοῦ of the ἀρχιερέως high priest. καί And εἰσελθών having entered ἔσω within, ἐκάθητο he was sitting μετά with τῶν the ὑπηρετῶν guards ἰδεῖν to see τό the τέλος. outcome.

οἱ - δέ And ἀρχιερεῖς the chief priests καί and τό the συνέδριον Council ὅλον whole ἐζήτουν were seeking ψευδομαρτυρίαν false testimony κατά against τοῦ - Ἰησοῦ Jesus, ὅπως so that αὐτόν him θανατώσωσιν, they might put to death; καί but οὐ not any εὗρον they found, πολλῶν of many προσελθόντων having come forward as ψευδομαρτύρων. false witnesses.
