Προσθέμενος Adding, δέ - Ἀβραάμ Abraham ἔλαβεν took γυναῖκα a woman ᾗ whose ὄνομα name (was) Χεττούρα. Ἰεξάν Jokshan δέ - ἐγέννησεν begat τόν - Σαβάν Sheba καί and τόν - Θαιμάν Teman καί and τόν - Δαιδάν· Dedan. υἱοί (The) sons δέ - Δαιδάν of Dedan ἐγένοντο were Ῥαγουήλ Raguel καί and Ναβδεήλ Adbeel καί and Ἀσουρίμ Asshurim καί and Λατουσιείμ Letushim καί and Λοωμείμ· Leummim. υἱοί (The) sons δέ - Μαδιάμ of Midian Γεφάρ Ephah καί and Ἄφερ Epher καί and Ἑνώχ Enoch καί and Ἀβιρά Abida καί and Θεργαμά. Αὗται These (are) δέ - αἱ the γενέσεις generations Ἰσμαήλ of Ishmael τοῦ the υἱοῦ son Ἀβραάμ, of Abraham, ὅν whom ἔτεκεν bore Ἁγάρ Hagar ἡ the παιδίσκη maiden Σάρρας of Sarah τῷ - Ἀβραάμ. to Abraham, καί and ταῦτα these (are) τά the ὀνόματα names τῶν of the υἱῶν sons Ἰσμαήλ of Ishmael κατ ̓ according to ὄνομα the name τῶν - γενεῶν generations: αὐτοῦ· of his πρωτότοκος the first-born Ἰσμαήλ of Ishmael, Ναβαιώθ, Nebaioth, καί and Κηδάρ Kedar καί and Ναβδεήλ Adbeel καί and Μασσάμ Mibsam καί and Μασμά Mishma καί and Ἰδουμά Dumah καί and Μασσή Massa καί and Χοδδάν Hadad καί and Θαιμάν Teman καί and Ἰετούρ Jetur καί and Ναφές Naphish καί and Κέδμα. Kedemah. οὗτοι These εἰσίν are οἱ the υἱοί sons Ἰσμαήλ, of Ishmael καί and ταῦτα these (are) τά - ὀνόματα names αὐτῶν their ἐν in ταῖς - σκηναῖς tents αὐτῶν their καί and ἐν in ταῖς - ἐπαύλεσιν villages, αὐτῶν· their δώδεκα twelve ἄρχοντες rulers κατά according to ἔθνος nations. αὐτῶν. their καί And ταῦτα these (are) τά the ἔτη years τῆς of the ζωῆς life Ἰσμαήλ, of Ishmael, ἑκατόν a hundred τριάκοντα thirty ἑπτά seven ἔτη· years, καί and ἐκλείπων ceasing, ἀπέθανεν he died καί and προσετέθη was added πρός to τό - γένος family. αὐτοῦ. his κατῴκησεν He settled δέ - ἀπό from Εὑειλάτ Havilah ἕως up to Σουήλ, Shur, ἥ which ἐστίν is κατά opposite πρόσωπον the face Αἰγύπτου Egypt, ἕως until ἐλθεῖν (he) came πρός to Ἀσσυρίους· the Assyrians, κατά down upon πρόσωπον the face πάντων of all τῶν - ἀδελφῶν kinsmen. αὐτοῦ his κατῴκησεν. he settled

Καί And αὗται these (are) αἱ the γενέσεις generations Ἰσαάκ of Isaac τοῦ the υἱοῦ son Ἀβραάμ· of Abraham: Ἀβραάμ Abraham ἐγέννησεν begat τόν - Ἰσαάκ. Isaac. ἦν was δέ - Ἰσαάκ Isaac ἐτῶν years old τεσσεράκοντα forty ὅτε when ἔλαβεν he took τήν - Ῥεβέκκαν Rebekah, θυγατέρα the daughter Βαθουήλ of Bethuel τοῦ the Σύρου Aramean ἐκ of τῆς - Μεσοποταμίας, Mesopotamia, ἀδελφήν (the) sister Λαβάν of Laban τοῦ the Σύρου, Aramean, ἑαυτῷ for himself γυναῖκα. (as) a wife. ἐδεῖτο asked δέ - Ἰσαάκ Isaac Κυρίου (the) LORD περί about Ῥεβέκκας Rebekah τῆς - γυναικός wife, αὐτοῦ, his ὅτι because στεῖρα barren. ἦν· she was ἐπήκουσεν heard δέ - αὐτοῦ him, θεός, God καί and ἔλαβεν received ἐν in γαστρί her belly. Ῥεβέκκα Rebekah ἡ - γυνή wife αὐτοῦ. his ἐσκίρτων were leaping δέ - τά The παιδία children ἐν within αὐτῇ· her, εἶπεν she said: δέ and εἰ If οὕτως this way μοι for me, μέλλει it is going γίνεσθαι, to be ἵνα - τί why μοι to me? τοῦτο; (is) this (happening) ἐπορεύθη She went δέ - πυθέσθαι to inquire παρά from Κυρίου. (the) LORD. καί And εἶπεν said Κύριος (the) LORD αὐτῇ to her:

Δύο Two ἔθνη nations ἐν in τῇ - γαστρί belly, σού your εἰσίν, are

καί and δύο two λαοί peoples ἐκ from τῆς - κοιλίας womb, σου your διασταλήσονται· will be separated

καί and λαός a people λαοῦ a people, ὑπερέξει, will be better than

καί and ὁ the μείζων greater δουλεύσει will serve τῷ the ἐλάσσονι. younger.

καί And ἐπληρώθησαν were completed αἱ the ἡμέραι days τοῦ - τεκεῖν to give birth αὐτήν· (for) her καί and τῇδε here ἦν there were δίδυμα twins ἐν in τῇ - γαστρί womb. αὐτῆς. her ἐξῆλθεν came out δέ - ὁ The υἱός son ὁ - πρωτότοκος first-born πυρράκης, red, ὅλος entirely ὡσεί like δορά hide. δασύς· a hairy ἐπωνόμασεν She called δέ - τό - ὄνομα name αὐτοῦ his Ἠσαύ. Esau. καί And μετά after τοῦτο this ἐξῆλθεν came out, ὁ - ἀδελφός brother αὐτοῦ, his καί and ἡ - χείρ hand αὐτοῦ his ἐπειλημμένη (was) gripping τῆς the πτέρνης heel Ἠσαύ· of Esau, καί and ἐκάλεσεν she called τό - ὄνομα name αὐτοῦ his Ἰακώβ. Jacob. Ἰσαάκ Isaac δέ - ἦν was ἐτῶν years old ἑξήκοντα sixty ὅτε when ἐγέννησεν brought forth αὐτούς them. Ῥεβέκκα. Ἥψησεν boiled δέ - Ἰακώβ Jacob ἕψεμα· stew, ἦλθεν came δέ and Ἠσαύ Esau ἐκ from τοῦ the πεδίου field ἐκλείπων. destitute. καί And εἶπεν said Ἠσαύ Esau τῷ - Ἰακώβ to Jacob: Γεῦσον Give a taste με me ἀπό from τοῦ - ἑψέματος stew, τοῦ - πυρροῦ red τούτου, this ὅτι because ἐκλίπω am destitute. ἐγώ· I διά Because of τοῦτο this ἐκλήθη was called τό - ὄνομα name αὐτοῦ his Ἐδώμ. Edom. εἶπεν said δέ - Ἰακώβ Jacob τῷ - Ἠσαύ to Esau: Ἀπόδου Give μοι me σήμερον today τά - πρωτοτοκεῖα birthright σου your ἐμοί. for me. εἶπεν said: δέ - Ἠσαύ Esau Ἰδού Look, ἐγώ I πορεύομαι am going τελευτᾷν, to die, καί so ἵνα - τί what (good are) μοι to me? ταῦτα these τά - πρωτοτοκεῖα; birthrights καί And εἶπεν said αὐτῷ to him: Ἰακώβ Jacob Ὄμοσον Swear μοι to me σήμερον. today. καί And ὤμοσεν he swore αὐτῷ· to him, ἀπέδοτο gave δέ and Ἠσαύ Esau τά (his) πρωτοτοκεῖα birthrights τῷ - Ἰακώβ. to Jacob. Ἰακώβ Jacob δέ - ἔδωκεν gave τῷ - Ἠσαύ Esau ἄρτον bread καί and ἕψεμα stew φακοῦ· of lentil, καί and ἔφαγεν he ate καί and ἔπιεν, drank καί and, ἀναστάς having stood up, ᾤχετο· he departed. καί So ἐφαύλισεν despised Ἠσαύ Esau τά (his) πρωτοτοκῖα. birthrights.

Ἐγένετο There came δέ - λιμός a famine ἐπί upon τῆς the γῆς, land χωρίς different from τοῦ the λιμοῦ famine τοῦ - πρότερον earlier ὅς which ἐγενήθη happened ἐν in τῷ the χρόνῳ time τοῦ of Ἀβραάμ· of Abraham.
