παρῴκησεν dwelt δέ - Ἀβραάμ Abraham ἐν in τῇ the γῇ land τῶν of the Φυλιστιείμ Philistines ἡμέρας days. πολλάς. for many
Καί And ἐγένετο it happened μετά after τά - ῥήματα words, ταῦτα these ὁ - θεός God ἐπείραζεν was testing τόν - Ἀβραάμ· Abraham καί and εἶπεν said πρός to αὐτόν him: Ἀβραάμ Abraham, Ἀβραάμ. God καί and ᾠκοδόμησεν built ἐκεῖ there Ἀβραάμ Abraham θυσιαστήριον an altar καί and ἐπέθηκεν placed τά the ξύλα· wood, καί and συμποδίσας having bound the feet of Ἰσαάκ of Isaac τόν - υἱόν son, αὐτοῦ his ἐπέθηκεν he placed αὐτόν him ἐπί on τό the θυσιαστήριον altar ἐπάνω upon τῶν the ξύλων. wood. καί And ἐξέτεινεν stretched out Ἀβραάμ Abraham τήν - χεῖρα hand αὐτοῦ his λαβεῖν to take τήν the μάχαιραν, knife σφάξαι to slay τόν - υἱόν son, αὐτοῦ. his καί and ἐκάλεσεν called αὐτόν him ἄγγελος the angel Κυρίου of Lord ἐκ from τοῦ - οὐρανοῦ heaven καί and εἶπεν said αὐτῷ to him: Ἀβραάμ Abraham, Ἀβραάμ. Abraham! ὁ He δέ - εἶπεν said: Ἰδού Look, ἐγώ. (it is) I. καί And εἶπεν he said: Μή not ἐπιβάλῃς Do lay τήν - χεῖρα hand σου your ἐπί upon τό the παιδάριον, child μηδέ and (do) not ποιήσῃς do αὐτῷ to him μηδέν· anything, νῦν now γάρ for ἔγνων I know ὅτι that φοβῇ fear τόν - θεόν God σύ, you καί and οὐ not ἐφείσω you have spared τοῦ - υἱοῦ son σου your τοῦ - ἀγαπητοῦ beloved δι ̓ on account of ἐμέ. me. καί And, ἀναβλέψας looking up, Ἀβραάμ Abraham τοῖς - ὀφθαλμοῖς eyes αὐτοῦ (with) his ἴδεν, saw καί and, ἰδού look, κριός ram εἷς one κατεχόμενος being held ἐν in φυτῷ a bush, σαβέκ a sabek τῶν of the κεράτων. horns, καί and ἐπορεύθη went Ἀβραάμ Abraham καί and ἔλαβεν took τόν the κριόν, ram καί and ἀνήνεγκεν offered αὐτόν it εἰς as ὁλοκάρπωσιν a whole offering ἀντί instead of Ἰσαάκ Isaac τοῦ - υἱοῦ son. αὐτοῦ. his καί And ἐκάλεσεν called Ἀβραάμ Abraham τό the ὄνομα name τοῦ - τόπου place ἐκείνου of that Κύριος (the) Lord ἴδεν· saw; ἵνα so that εἴπωσιν they might say σήμερον today: ἐν On τῷ the ὄρει mountain Κύριος (the) LORD ὤφθη. was seen. καί And ἐκάλεσεν called ἄγγελος an angel Κυρίου of Lord τόν - Ἀβραάμ Abraham δεύτερον a second (time) ἐκ from τοῦ - οὐρανοῦ heaven λέγων saying, Κατ ̓ By ἐμαυτοῦ myself ὤμοσα, I swear, λέγει says Κύριος, (the) LORD οὗ of which εἵνεκεν on account ἐποίησας you did τό - ῥῆμα word τοῦτο this καί and οὐ not ἐφείσω you did spare τοῦ - υἱοῦ son σου your τοῦ - ἀγαπητοῦ beloved δι ̓ on account of ἐμέ, me, εἰ If μήν indeed, εὐλογῶν blessing, εὐλογήσω I will bless σε, you καί and, πληθύνων increasing, πληθυνῶ I will increase τό - σπέρμα offspring σου your ὡς like τούς the ἀστέρας stars τοῦ - οὐρανοῦ of heaven καί and ὡς like τήν the ἄμμον sand τήν - παρά from τό the χεῖλος shore τῆς of the θαλάσσης· sea, καί and κληρονομήσει will inherit τό - σπέρμα offspring σου your τάς the πόλεις cities τῶν of (their) ὑπεναντίων. enemies. καί And ἐνευλογηθήσονται will be blessed ἐν in τῷ - σπέρματι offspring σου your πάντα all τά the ἔθνη, nations ἀνθ ̓ for ὧν which ὑπήκουσας you obeyed τῆς - ἐμῆς my φωνῆς. voice. ἁπεστράφη returned δέ - Ἀβραάμ Abraham πρός to τούς - παῖδας servants, αὐτοῦ, his καί and, ἀναστάντες when they had arisen, ἐπορεύθησαν they went ἐπί to τό the φρέαρ cistern τοῦ of the ὅρκου· oath. καί And κατῴκησεν settled Ἀβραάμ Abraham ἐπί at τῷ the φρέατι cistern τοῦ of the ὅρκου. oath.
Ἐγένετο· It happened δέ - μετά after τά - ῥήματα words ταῦτα these καί that ἀνηγγέλη it was reported τῷ - Ἀβραάμ to Abraham, λέγοντες saying: Ἰδού Look, τέτοκεν has borne Μελχά Milcah, καί indeed, αὐτή she υἱούς sons Ναχώρ to Nahor τῷ - ἀδελφῷ brother, σου, your τόν - Ὤξ Uz, πρωτότοκον first-born, καί and τόν - Βαύξ Buz ἀδελφόν brother αὐτοῦ, his καί and τόν - Καμουήλ Kemuel, πατέρα father Σύρων, of the Syrians καί and τόν - Χάσζαδ Chesed καί and τόν - Ἁζαῦ Hazo καί and τόν - φαλδάς Pildash καί and τόν - Ἰελδάφ Jidlaph καί and τόν - Βαθουήλ. Bethuel, καί and Βαθουήλ Bethuel ἐγέννησεν begat τήν - Ῥεβέκκαν. Rebekah. ὀκτώ eight οὗτοι These υἱοί (are) sons, οὕς which ἔτεκεν bore Μελχά Milcah τῷ - Ναχώρ to Nahor τῷ - ἀδελφῷ brother Ἀβραάμ. of Abraham. καί And ἡ - παλλακή concubine, αὐτοῦ his ᾗ whose ὄνομα name Ῥεηρά, Reumah, ἔτεκεν brought forth καί also αὐτή she τόν - Τάβεκ Tebah καί and τόν - Τάαμ Gaham καί and τόν - Τόχος Tahash καί and τόν - Μωχά. Εγένετο was δέ - ἡ The ζωή life Σάρρας of Sarah ἔτη years. ἑκατόν a hundred εἴκοσι twenty ἑπτά. seven καί And ἀπέθανεν died Σάρρα Sarah ἐν in πόλει the city Ἀρβόκ, of Kiriath-arba, ἥ which ἐστίν is ἐν in τῷ the κοιλώματι· low-land αὕτη (this ἐστίν is Χεβρών Hebron) ἐν in γῇ the land Χανάαν. of Canaan. ἦλθεν went δέ - Ἀβραάμ Abraham κόψασθαι to grieve Σάρραν Sarah καί and πενθῆσαι. to mourn. καί And ἀνέστη stood up Ἀβραάμ Abraham ἀπό before τοῦ - νεκροῦ dead αὐτοῦ· his καί and εἶπεν spoke Ἀβραάμ Abraham τοῖς to the υἱοῖς sons Χέτ of Heth, λέγων saying: Πάροικος an alien καί and παρεπίδημος a sojourner ἐγώ I εἰμί am μεθ ̓ among ὑμῶν· you. δότε Give, οὖν therefore, μοι to me κτῆσιν a property τάφου for a grave μεθ ̓ among ὑμῶν, you, καί that θάψω I might bury τόν - νεκρόν dead μου my ἐκεῖ. there ἀπεκρίθησαν answered δέ - οἱ The υἱοί sons Χέτ of Heth πρός to Ἀβραάμ Abraham, λέγοντες saying: Μή, No, κύριε· lord! ἄκουσον Hear δέ - ἡμῶν. us. βασιλεύς a king παρά from θεοῦ a god σύ You εἶ are ἐν among ἡμῖν· us. ἐν In τοῖς - ἐκλεκτοῖς choice μνημείοις tombs ἡμῶν our θάψον bury τόν - νεκρόν dead one. σου· your οὐδείς none γάρ For ἡμῶν of us τό - μνημεῖον tomb αὐτοῦ his κωλύσει will withhold ἀπό from σοῦ, you τοῦ - θάψαι (so that you) might bury τόν - νεκρόν dead one σου your ἐκεῖ. there. ἀναστάς Having arisen, δέ - Ἀβραάμ Abraham προσεκύνησεν prostrated himself τῷ to the λαῷ people τῆς of the γῆς, land, τοῖς the υἱοῖς sons Χέτ. of Heth, καί and ἐλάλησεν spoke πρός to αὐτούς them, Ἀβραάμ Abraham λέγων saying: εἰ If ἔχετε you have (it) τῇ - ψυχῇ soul ὑμῶν (in) your ὥστε so that θάψαι (I) might bury τόν - νεκρόν dead one μου my ἀπό from προσώπου presence. μου, my ἀκούσατε Hear μου me καί and λαλήσατε speak περί about ἐμοῦ me Ἐφρών Ephron τῷ the (son) τοῦ - Σάαρ· of Zohar, καί and δότω let him give μοι to me τό the σπήλαιον cave, τό - διπλοῦν double ὅ which ἐστίν is αὐτῷ, his, τό the one ὄν which is ἐν in μερίδι the midst τοῦ - ἀγροῦ field, αὐτοῦ· of his ἀργυρίου for the cost τοῦ - ἀξίου (it is) worth. δότω Let him give μοι to me αὐτό it ἐν among ὑμῖν you εἰς for κτῆσιν a property μνημείου. as a tomb. Ἐφρών Ephron δέ - ἐκάθητο was seated ἐν in μέσῳ the midst τῶν of the υἱῶν sons Χέτ· of Heth. ἀποκριθείς Replying δέ - Ἐφρών Ephron ὁ the Χετταῖος Hittite πρός to Ἀβραάμ Abraham, εἶπεν, spoke, ἀκουόντων were listening, τῶν (while) the υἱῶν sons Χέτ of Heth καί and πάντων all τῶν those εἰσπορευομένων entering εἰς into τήν the πόλιν, city, λέγων saying: Παρ ̓ with ἐμοί me, γενοῦ, Be (present) κύριε, lord, καί and ἄκουσον hear μου. me. τόν The ἀγρόν field καί and τό the σπήλαιον cave τό that is ἐν in αὐτῷ it σοί to you; δίδωμι· I give ἐναντίον before τῶν - πολιτῶν fellow-citizens μου my. δέδωκα I have given (it) σοι· to you; θάψον bury τόν - νεκρόν dead one. σου. your καί And προσεκύνησεν prostrated himself Ἀβραάμ Abraham ἐναντίον before τοῦ the λαοῦ people τῆς of the γῆς· land, καί and εἶπεν said τῷ - Ἐφρών to Ephron εἰς in τά the ὦτα ears ἐναντίον before παντός all τοῦ the λαοῦ people τῆς of the γῆς land: Ἐπειδή Since πρός before ἐμοῦ me, εἶ, you are ἄκουσον hear μου· me. τό the ἀργύριον money τοῦ for the ἀγροῦ field, λάβε Take παρ ̓ from ἐμοῦ, me καί and θάψον bury τόν - νεκρόν dead μου my ἐκεῖ. there. ἀπεκρίθη replied δέ - Ἐφρών Ephron τῷ - Ἀβραάμ to Abraham, λέγων saying: Οὐχί, No, κύριε, lord. ἀκήκοα I have heard γάρ· for τετρακοσίων (the worth is) four hundred διδράχμων didrachmas ἀργυρίου· of silver. ἀνά a going up μέσον the middle of ἐμοῦ me καί and σοῦ you, τί what ἄν - εἴη is τοῦτο; it? σύ You, δέ now, τόν - νεκρόν dead. σου your θάψον. bury καί And ἤκουσεν heard Ἀβραάμ Abraham τῷ - Ἐφρών· Ephron, καί and ἀπεκατέστησεν delivered Ἀβραάμ Abraham τῷ - Ἐφρών for Ephron τό the ἀργύριον money ὅ which ἐλάλησεν he spoke (about) εἰς in τά the ὦτα ears τῶν of the υἱῶν sons Χέτ, of Heth, τετρακόσια four hundred δίδραχμα didrachmas ἀργυρίου of silver δοκίμου approved ἐνπόροις. for merchants. καί And ἔστη (there) stood ὁ the ἀγρός field Ἐφρών, of Ephron, ὅς which ἦν was ἐν at τῷ the διπλῷ double σπηλαίῳ cave, ὅς whose ἐστίν is κατά toward πρόσωπον face Μαμβρή, Mamre, ὁ the ἀγρός field καί and τό the σπήλαιον cave, ὅ which ἦν was αὐτῷ, it, καί and πᾶν every δένδρον tree, ὅ which ἦν was ἐν in τῷ the ἀγρῷ, field, ὅ which ἐστίν is ἐν in τοῖς - ὁρίοις boundaries αὐτοῦ its κύκλῳ, round about; τῷ - Ἀβραάμ for Abraham εἰς as κτῆσιν a property ἐναντίον before τῶν the υἱῶν sons Χέτ of Heth καί and πάντων all τῶν who were εἰσπορευομένων entering εἰς into τήν the πόλιν. city. μετά After ταῦτα these things ἔθαψεν buried Ἀβραάμ Abraham Σάρραν Sarah τήν - γυναῖκα wife αὐτοῦ his ἐν in τῷ the σπηλαίῳ cave τοῦ of the ἀγροῦ field, τῷ - διπλῷ, double ὅ which ἐστίν is ἀπέναντι opposite Μαμβρή· Mamre, αὕτη (this ἐστίν is Χεβρών Hebron) ἐν in τῇ the γῇ land Χανάαν. of Canaan. καί And ἐκυρώθη were established ὁ the ἀγρός field καί and τό the σπήλαιον cave, ὅ which ἦν was αὐτῷ in it, τῷ - Ἀβραάμ for Abraham εἰς as κτῆσιν property τάφου for a grave παρά from τῶν the υἱῶν sons Χέτ. of Heth.
Καί And Ἀβραάμ Abraham ἦν was πρεσβύτερος old, προβεβηκώς advanced ἡμερῶν, in days, καί and Κύριος (the) LORD εὐλόγησεν blessed τόν - Ἀβραάμ Abraham κατά in πάντα. all things. καί And εἶπεν said Ἀβραάμ Abraham τῷ - παιδί servant αὐτοῦ, to his τῷ the πρεσβυτέρῳ oldest τῆς - οἰκίας house αὐτοῦ, of his τῷ (who was) ἄρχοντι overseer πάντων of all things τῶν (that were) αὐτοῦ his: Θές Put τήν - χεῖρα hand σου your ὑπό under τόν - μηρόν loin, μου, my καί and ἐξορκίσω I will make swear σε you Κύριον by (the) LORD, τόν the θεόν God τοῦ - οὐρανοῦ of heaven καί and τῆς of the γῆς, earth, ἵνα that μή not λάβῃς you take γυναῖκα a woman τῷ - υἱῷ son μου (for) my Ἰσαάκ Isaac ἀπό from τῶν the θυγατέρων daughters τῶν of the Χαναναίων, Canaanites μεθ ̓ with ὧν whom ἐγώ I οἰκῶ live, μετ ̓ amongst αὐτῶν· them.
