ὁ The πρεσβύτερος elder, Γαΐῳ To Gaius τῷ the ἀγαπητῷ, beloved, ὅν whom ἐγώ I ἀγαπῶ love ἐν in ἀληθείᾳ. truth.

Ἀγαπητέ, Beloved, περί concerning πάντων all things εὔχομαι I pray σε you εὐοδοῦσθαι to prosper καί and ὑγιαίνειν, to be in good health, καθώς just as εὐοδοῦται prospers σου your ἡ - ψυχή. soul. ἐχάρην I rejoiced γάρ for λίαν exceedingly ἐρχομένων coming ἀδελφῶν of [the] brothers καί and μαρτυρούντων bearing witness σου of your τῇ - ἀληθείᾳ, truth, καθώς just as σύ you ἐν in ἀληθείᾳ truth περιπατεῖς are walking. μειζοτέραν Greater τούτων than these things οὐ not ἔχω I have χαράν, joy, ἵνα that ἀκούω I should hear of τά - ἐμά my τέκνα children ἐν in ἀληθείᾳ [the] truth περιπατοῦντα. walking.

Ἀγαπητέ, Beloved, πιστόν faithfully ποιεῖς you are doing ὅ whatever ἐάν if ἐργάσῃ you might have done εἰς toward τούς the ἀδελφούς brothers, καί and τοῦτο they are ξένους, strangers, οἵ who ἐμαρτύρησαν testified σου of your τῇ - ἀγάπῃ love ἐνώπιον before ἐκκλησίας, [the] church, οὕς whom καλῶς well ποιήσεις you will do, προπέμψας having set forward ἀξίως worthily τοῦ - Θεοῦ· of God. ὑπέρ On behalf γάρ for τοῦ of the Ὀνόματος name ἐξῆλθον they went forth, μηδέν nothing λαμβάνοντες accepting ἀπό from τῶν the ἐθνικῶν. Gentiles. ἡμεῖς We οὖν therefore ὀφείλομεν ought ὑπολαμβάνειν to receive τούς - τοιούτους, such [men], ἵνα so that συνεργοί fellow workers γινώμεθα we may be τῇ in the ἀληθείᾳ. truth.

Ἔγραψα I have written τὶ something τῇ to the ἐκκλησίᾳ· church; ἀλλ ̓ but ὁ the [one] φιλοπρωτεύων loving to be first αὐτῶν among them, Διοτρεφής Diotrephes, οὐ not ἐπιδέχεται welcomes ἡμᾶς. us. διά Because of τοῦτο, this, ἐάν if ἔλθω, I might come, ὑπομνήσω I will bring to remembrance αὐτοῦ of him τά the ἔργα works ἅ which ποιεῖ he is doing, λόγοις with words πονηροῖς evil φλυαρῶν prating against ἡμᾶς, us; καί and μή not ἀρκούμενος being satisfied ἐπί with τούτοις these, οὔτε neither αὐτός himself ἐπιδέχεται he receives τούς the ἀδελφούς brothers, καί and τούς those βουλομένους purposing, κωλύει he forbids, καί and ἐκ from τῆς the ἐκκλησίας church ἐκβάλλει. he casts [them] out.

Ἀγαπητέ, Beloved, μή not μιμοῦ do imitate τό what [is] κακόν evil, ἀλλά but τό what [is] ἀγαθόν. good. ὁ The [one] ἀγαθοποιῶν doing good, ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God ἐστίν· is; ὁ the [one] κακοποιῶν doing evil, οὐ not ἑώρακεν has seen τόν - Θεόν. God. Δημητρίῳ To Demetrius μεμαρτύρηται witness has been given ὑπό by πάντων all, καί and ὑπό by αὐτῆς itself τῆς the ἀληθείας· truth; καί and ἡμεῖς we δέ also μαρτυροῦμεν, bear witness, καί and οἶδας you know ὅτι that ἡ the μαρτυρία testimony ἡμῶν of us ἀληθής true ἐστίν. is.

Πολλά Many things εἶχον I had γράψαι to write σοι to you, ἀλλ ̓ but οὐ not θέλω I desire διά with μέλανος ink καί and καλάμου pen σοι to you γράφειν· to write. ἐλπίζω I hope δέ however εὐθέως soon, σε you ἰδεῖν, to see, καί and στόμα mouth πρός to στόμα mouth λαλήσομεν. we will speak.
