Ὅς Whoever ἐάν if ὁμολογήσῃ shall confess ὅτι that Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐστίν is ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God, ὁ - Θεός God ἐν in αὐτῷ him μένει abides, καί and αὐτός he ἐν in τῷ - Θεῷ. God. καί And ἡμεῖς we ἐγνώκαμεν have come to know καί and πεπιστεύκαμεν have come to believe τήν the ἀγάπην love ἥν that ἔχει has ὁ - Θεός God ἐν as to ἡμῖν. us.

Ἐάν If τὶς anyone εἴπῃ should say ὅτι -, Ἀγαπῶ I love τόν - Θεόν God, καί and τόν the ἀδελφόν brother αὐτοῦ of him μισῇ, should hate, ψεύστης a liar ἐστίν· he is. ὁ The [one] γάρ for μή not ἀγαπῶν loving τόν the ἀδελφόν brother αὐτοῦ of him, ὅν whom ἑώρακεν, he has seen, τόν - Θεόν God, ὅν whom οὐ not ἑώρακεν he has seen, οὐ not δύναται is he able ἀγαπᾶν. to love. καί And ταύτην this τήν the ἐντολήν commandment ἔχομεν we have ἀπ ̓ from αὐτοῦ, Him, ἵνα that ὁ the [one] ἀγαπῶν loving τόν - Θεόν God ἀγαπᾷ should love καί also τόν the ἀδελφόν brother αὐτοῦ. of him.

Πᾶς Everyone ὁ - πιστεύων believing ὅτι that Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐστίν is ὁ the Χριστός Christ, ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God γεγέννηται, has been born, καί and πᾶς everyone ὁ - ἀγαπῶν loving τόν the [One] γεννήσαντα having begotten [Him], ἀγαπᾷ loves καί also τόν the [one] γεγεννημένον having been begotten ἐκ from αὐτοῦ. Him. ἐν By τούτῳ this γινώσκομεν we know ὅτι that ἀγαπῶμεν we love τά the τέκνα children τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God, ὅταν when τόν - Θεόν God ἀγαπῶμεν we love καί and τάς the ἐντολάς commandments αὐτοῦ of Him ποιῶμεν. keep. αὕτη This γάρ for ἐστίν is ἡ the ἀγάπη love τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God, ἵνα that τάς the ἐντολάς commandments αὐτοῦ of Him τηρῶμεν, we should keep; καί and αἱ the ἐντολαί commandments αὐτοῦ of Him βαρεῖαι burdensome οὐ not εἰσίν. are. ὅτι For πᾶν everyone τό - γεγεννημένον having been born ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God νικᾷ overcomes τόν the κόσμον· world; καί and αὕτη this ἐστίν is ἡ the νίκη victory ἡ - νικήσασα having overcome τόν the κόσμον, world: ἡ the πίστις faith ἡμῶν. of us.

Τίς Who δέ now ἐστίν is ὁ the [one] νικῶν overcoming τόν the κόσμον world, εἰ if μή not ὁ the [one] πιστεύων believing ὅτι that Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἐστίν is ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - Θεοῦ; of God? οὗτος This ἐστίν is ὁ the [One] ἐλθών having come δι ̓ by ὕδατος water καί and αἵματος, blood, Ἰησοῦς Jesus Χριστός, Christ; οὐ not ἐν by τῷ - ὕδατι water μόνον, only, ἀλλ ̓ but ἐν by τῷ - ὕδατι water καί and ἐν by τῷ - αἵματι· blood. καί And τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit ἐστίν is τό the [One] μαρτυροῦν, testifying, ὅτι because τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit ἐστίν is ἡ the ἀλήθεια. truth. ὅτι For τρεῖς three εἰσίν there are οἱ - μαρτυροῦντες, bearing testimony: τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit καί and τό the ὕδωρ water καί and τό the αἷμα, blood — καί and οἱ these τρεῖς three εἰς in τό - ἕν one εἰσίν. are. εἰ If τήν the μαρτυρίαν testimony τῶν - ἀνθρώπων of men λαμβάνομεν, we receive, ἡ the μαρτυρία testimony τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God μείζων greater ἐστίν· is. ὅτι For αὕτη this ἐστίν is ἡ the μαρτυρία testimony τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God ὅτι that μεμαρτύρηκεν He has testified περί concerning τοῦ the Υἱοῦ Son αὐτοῦ. of Him. ὁ The [one] πιστεύων believing εἰς in τόν the Υἱόν Son τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God ἔχει has τήν the μαρτυρίαν testimony ἐν in αὑτῷ, himself. ὁ The [one] μή not πιστεύων believing τῷ - Θεῷ God, ψεύστην a liar πεποίηκεν has made αὐτόν, Him, ὅτι because οὐ not πεπίστευκεν he has believed εἰς in τήν the μαρτυρίαν testimony ἥν that μεμαρτύρηκεν has testified ὁ - Θεός God περί concerning τοῦ the Υἱοῦ Son αὐτοῦ. Him. Καί And αὕτη this ἐστίν is ἡ the μαρτυρία, testimony, ὅτι that ζωήν life αἰώνιον eternal ἔδωκεν has given ἡμῖν to us, ὁ - Θεός, God καί and αὕτη this ἡ the ζωή life ἐν in τῷ the Υἱῷ Son αὐτοῦ His ἐστίν. is. ὁ The [one] ἔχων having τόν the Υἱόν Son ἔχει has τήν - ζωήν· life; ὁ the [one] μή not ἔχων having τόν the Υἱόν Son τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God, τήν - ζωήν life οὐ not ἔχει. has.

Ταῦτα These things ἔγραψα have I written ὑμῖν, to you ἵνα so that εἰδῆτε you may know ὅτι that ζωήν life ἔχετε you have αἰώνιον, eternal, τοῖς to those πιστεύουσιν believing εἰς in τό the ὄνομα name τοῦ of the Υἱοῦ Son τοῦ - Θεοῦ. of God. Καί And αὕτη this ἐστίν is ἡ the παρρησία confidence ἥν that ἔχομεν we have πρός toward αὐτόν, Him, ὅτι that ἐάν if τὶ anything αἰτώμεθα we might ask κατά according to τό the θέλημα will αὐτοῦ of Him, ἀκούει He hears ἡμῶν. us. καί And ἐάν if οἴδαμεν we know ὅτι that ἀκούει He hears ἡμῶν us, ὅ whatever ἐάν if αἰτώμεθα, we might ask, οἴδαμεν we know ὅτι that ἔχομεν we have τά the αἰτήματα requests ἅ that ᾐτήκαμεν we have asked ἀπ ̓ from αὐτοῦ. Ἐάν If τὶς anyone ἴδῃ should see τόν the ἀδελφόν brother αὐτοῦ of him ἁμαρτάνοντα sinning ἁμαρτίαν a sin μή not πρός unto θάνατον, death, αἰτήσει he shall ask, καί and δώσει He will give αὐτῷ him ζωήν, life, τοῖς to those ἁμαρτάνουσιν sinning μή not πρός unto θάνατον. death. ἔστιν There is ἁμαρτία a sin πρός unto θάνατον· death; οὐ not περί concerning ἐκείνης that λέγω do I say ἵνα that ἐρωτήσῃ. he should implore. πᾶσα All ἀδικία unrighteousness ἁμαρτία sin ἐστίν, is, καί and ἔστιν there is ἁμαρτία sin οὐ not πρός unto θάνατον. death.

Οἴδαμεν We know ὅτι that πᾶς everyone ὁ - γεγεννημένος having been born ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God οὐ not ἁμαρτάνει, continues to sin, ἀλλ ̓ but ὁ the [One] γεννηθείς having been begotten ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God τηρεῖ protects ἑαυτόν him, καί and ὁ the πονηρός evil [one] οὐ not ἅπτεται does touch αὐτοῦ. him. οἴδαμεν We know ὅτι that ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God ἐσμέν we are, καί and ὁ the κόσμος world ὅλος whole, ἐν in τῷ the πονηρῷ evil [one] κεῖται. lies. οἴδαμεν We know δέ now ὅτι that ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God ἥκει is come, καί and δέδωκεν has given ἡμῖν us διάνοιαν, understanding, ἵνα so that γινώσκωμεν we may know τόν Him who [is] ἀληθινόν, true; καί and ἐσμέν we are ἐν in τῷ Him who [is] ἀληθινῷ, true, ἐν in τῷ the Υἱῷ Son αὐτοῦ of Him, Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστῷ. Christ. οὗτος He ἐστίν is ὁ the ἀληθινός true Θεός God καί and ζωή life αἰώνιος. eternal.

Τεκνία, Little children, φυλάξατε keep ἑαυτά yourselves ἀπό from τῶν - εἰδώλων. idols.
