ἐάν If τὶς anyone ἀγαπᾷ should love τόν the κόσμον, world, οὐ not ἔστιν is ἡ the ἀγάπη love τοῦ of the Πατρός Father ἐν in αὐτῷ· him, ὅτι because πᾶν all τό that [is] ἐν in τῷ the κόσμῳ, world, ἡ the ἐπιθυμία desire τῆς of the σαρκός flesh, καί and ἡ the ἐπιθυμία desire τῶν of the ὀφθαλμῶν eyes, καί and ἡ the ἀλαζονεία vaunting τοῦ of βίου, life, οὐ not ἔστιν is ἐκ from τοῦ the πατρός Father, ἀλλά but ἐκ from τοῦ the κόσμου world ἐστίν. is. καί And ὁ the κόσμος world παράγεται is passing away, καί and ἡ the ἐπιθυμία desire αὐτοῦ, of it; ὁ the [one] δέ however ποιῶν doing τό the θέλημα will τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God μένει abides εἰς to τόν the αἰῶνα. age.

Παιδία, Little children, ἐσχάτη [the] last ὥρα hour ἐστίν, it is, καί and καθώς as ἠκούσατε you have heard ὅτι that ἀντίχριστος antichrist ἔρχεται, is coming, καί even νῦν now ἀντίχριστοι antichrists πολλοί many γεγόνασιν, have arisen, ὅθεν whereby γινώσκομεν we know ὅτι that ἐσχάτη [the] last ὥρα hour ἐστίν. it is. ἐκ From among ἡμῶν us ἐξῆλθαν they went out, ἀλλ ̓ but οὐ not ἦσαν they were ἐκ of ἡμῶν, us; εἰ if γάρ for ἐκ of ἡμῶν us ἦσαν, they had been, μεμενήκεισαν they would have remained ἄν - μεθ ̓ with ἡμῶν— us. ἀλλ ̓ But ἵνα [it is] so that φανερωθῶσιν it might be made manifest ὅτι that οὐ not εἰσίν they are πάντες all ἐκ of ἡμῶν. us. Καί And ὑμεῖς you χρῖσμα [the] anointing ἔχετε have ἀπό from τοῦ the Ἁγίου Holy [One], καί and οἴδατε know you πάντες. all. οὐ Not ἔγραψα I have written ὑμῖν to you ὅτι because οὐ not οἴδατε you know τήν the ἀλήθειαν truth, ἀλλ ̓ but ὅτι because οἴδατε you know αὐτήν it, καί and ὅτι because πᾶν any ψεῦδος lie, ἐκ of τῆς the ἀληθείας truth οὐ not ἔστιν. is.

Τίς Who ἐστίν is ὁ the ψεύστης liar, εἰ if μή not ὁ the [one] ἀρνούμενος denying ὅτι that Ἰησοῦς Jesus οὐ not ἔστιν is ὁ the Χριστός; Christ? οὗτος This ἐστίν is ὁ the ἀντίχριστος, antichrist, ὁ the [one] ἀρνούμενος denying τόν the Πατέρα Father καί and τόν the Υἱόν. Son. πᾶς Everyone ὁ - ἀρνούμενος denying τόν the Υἱόν Son, οὐδέ neither τόν the Πατέρα Father ἔχει, has he. ὁ The [one] ὁμολογῶν confessing τόν the Υἱόν Son, καί also τόν the Πατέρα Father ἔχει. has. Ὑμεῖς You, ὅ what ἠκούσατε you have heard ἀπ ̓ from ἀρχῆς, [the] beginning, ἐν in ὑμῖν you μενέτω. let it abide. ἐάν If ἐν in ὑμῖν you μείνῃ should abide ὅ what ἀπ ̓ from ἀρχῆς [the] beginning ἠκούσατε, you have heard, καί also ὑμεῖς you ἐν in τῷ the Υἱῷ Son καί and ἐν in τῷ the Πατρί Father μενεῖτε. will abide. καί And αὕτη this ἐστίν is ἡ the ἐπαγγελία promise ἥν that αὐτός He ἐπηγγείλατο promised ἡμῖν, us: τήν - ζωήν life τήν - αἰώνιον. eternal.

Ταῦτα These things ἔγραψα I have written ὑμῖν to you περί concerning τῶν those πλανώντων leading astray ὑμᾶς. you. καί And ὑμεῖς you, τό the χρῖσμα anointing ὅ that ἐλάβετε you received ἀπ ̓ from αὐτοῦ Him, μένει abides ἐν in ὑμῖν, you, καί and οὐ not χρείαν need ἔχετε you have ἵνα that τὶς anyone διδάσκῃ should teach ὑμᾶς, you. ἀλλ ̓ But ὡς just as τό the αὐτοῦ same χρῖσμα anointing διδάσκει teaches ὑμᾶς you περί concerning πάντων, all things, καί and ἀληθές true ἐστίν is, καί and οὐ not ἔστιν is ψεῦδος, a lie; καί and καθώς just as ἐδίδαξεν it has taught ὑμᾶς, you, μένετε you shall abide ἐν in αὐτῷ. Him.

Καί And νῦν, now, τεκνία, little children, μένετε abide ἐν in αὐτῷ, Him, ἵνα so that ἐάν when φανερωθῇ, He appears σχῶμεν we might have παρρησίαν boldness καί and μή not αἰσχυνθῶμεν be ashamed ἀπ ̓ before αὐτοῦ Him ἐν at τῇ the παρουσίᾳ coming αὐτοῦ. of Him. Ἐάν If εἰδῆτε you know ὅτι that δίκαιος righteous ἐστίν, He is, γινώσκετε you know ὅτι that καί also πᾶς everyone ὁ - ποιῶν practicing τήν - δικαιοσύνην righteousness, ἐκ of αὐτοῦ Him γεγέννηται. has been begotten.

Ἴδετε Behold ποταπήν what ἀγάπην love δέδωκεν has given ἡμῖν to us ὁ the Πατήρ, Father, ἵνα that τέκνα children Θεοῦ of God κληθῶμεν, we should be called — καί and ἐσμέν. we are! διά Because of τοῦτο this, ὁ the κόσμος world οὐ not γινώσκει knows ἡμᾶς, us, ὅτι because οὐ not ἔγνω it knew αὐτόν. Him. Ἀγαπητοί Beloved, νῦν now τέκνα children Θεοῦ of God ἐσμέν, are we, καί and οὔπω not yet ἐφανερώθη has been revealed τί what ἐσόμεθα. we will be. οἴδαμεν We know ὅτι that ἐάν when φανερωθῇ, He appears, ὅμοιοι like αὐτῷ Him ἐσόμεθα, we will be, ὅτι for ὀψόμεθα we will see αὐτόν, Him καθώς as ἐστίν. He is. καί And πᾶς everyone ὁ - ἔχων having τήν the ἐλπίδα hope ταύτην this ἐπ ̓ in αὐτῷ Him, ἁγνίζει purifies ἑαυτόν, himself, καθώς just as ἐκεῖνος He ἁγνός pure ἐστίν. is.

Πᾶς Everyone ὁ - ποιῶν committing τήν - ἁμαρτίαν sin, καί also τήν - ἀνομίαν lawlessness ποιεῖ, commits; καί and ἡ - ἁμαρτία sin ἐστίν is ἡ - ἀνομία. lawlessness. καί And οἴδατε you know ὅτι that ἐκεῖνος He ἐφανερώθη, appeared ἵνα so that τάς - ἁμαρτίας sins ἄρῃ, He might take away; καί and ἁμαρτία sin ἐν in αὐτῷ Him οὐ not ἔστιν. there is. πᾶς Anyone ὁ - ἐν in αὐτῷ Him μένων abiding, οὐ not ἁμαρτάνει· sins; πᾶς anyone ὁ - ἁμαρτάνων sinning, οὐ not ἑώρακεν has seen αὐτόν Him, οὐδέ nor ἔγνωκεν has he known αὐτόν. Him.

Τεκνία, Little children, μηδείς no one πλανάτω let lead astray ὑμᾶς· you; ὁ the [one] ποιῶν practicing τήν - δικαιοσύνην righteousness, δίκαιος righteous ἐστίν, is, καθώς just as ἐκεῖνος He δίκαιος righteous ἐστίν· is. ὁ The [one] ποιῶν practicing τήν - ἁμαρτίαν sin, ἐκ of τοῦ the διαβόλου devil ἐστίν, is, ὅτι because ἀπ ̓ from ἀρχῆς [the] beginning ὁ the διάβολος devil ἁμαρτάνει. has been sinning. εἰς For τοῦτο this [reason] ἐφανερώθη was revealed ὁ the Υἱός Son τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God, ἵνα so that λύσῃ He might destroy τά the ἔργα works τοῦ of the διαβόλου. devil. Πᾶς Anyone ὁ - γεγεννημένος having been born ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God, ἁμαρτίαν sin οὐ not ποιεῖ, practices, ὅτι because σπέρμα seed αὐτοῦ of Him ἐν in αὐτῷ him μένει, abides, καί and οὐ not δύναται he is able ἁμαρτάνειν, to continue sinning, ὅτι because ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God γεγέννηται. he has been born. ἐν Through τούτῳ this φανερά manifest ἐστίν are τά the τέκνα children τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God καί and τά the τέκνα children τοῦ of the διαβόλου· devil: πᾶς Anyone ὁ - μή not ποιῶν practicing δικαιοσύνην righteousness οὐ not ἔστιν is ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God, καί and also ὁ the [one] μή not ἀγαπῶν loving τόν the ἀδελφόν brother αὐτοῦ. of him.

Ὅτι For αὕτη this ἐστίν is ἡ the ἀγγελία message ἥν that ἠκούσατε you have heard ἀπ ̓ from ἀρχῆς, [the] beginning, ἵνα that ἀγαπῶμεν we should love ἀλλήλους, one another, οὐ not καθώς as Κάϊν Cain , ἐκ [who] of τοῦ the πονηροῦ evil [one] ἦν was καί and ἔσφαξεν slew τόν the ἀδελφόν brother αὐτοῦ· of him. καί And χάριν because of τίνος what ἔσφαξεν he slayed αὐτόν; him? ὅτι Because τά the ἔργα works αὐτοῦ of him πονηρά evil ἦν, were, τά those δέ however τοῦ of the ἀδελφοῦ brother αὐτοῦ of him, δίκαια. righteous.

καί And Μή not θαυμάζετε, be surprised, ἀδελφοί, brothers, εἰ if μισεῖ hates ὑμᾶς you ὁ the κόσμος. world. Ἡμεῖς We οἴδαμεν know ὅτι that μεταβεβήκαμεν we have passed ἐκ from τοῦ - θανάτου death εἰς to τήν - ζωήν, life, ὅτι because ἀγαπῶμεν we love τούς [our] ἀδελφούς· brothers. ὁ The [one] μή not ἀγαπῶν loving μένει abides ἐν in τῷ - θανάτῳ. death. πᾶς Everyone ὁ - μισῶν hating τόν the ἀδελφόν brother αὐτοῦ of him ἀνθρωποκτόνος a murderer ἐστίν, is; καί and οἴδατε you know ὅτι that πᾶς any ἀνθρωποκτόνος murderer, οὐ not ἔχει has ζωήν life αἰώνιον eternal ἐν in αὐτῷ him μένουσαν. abiding. ἐν By τούτῳ this ἐγνώκαμεν we have known τήν - ἀγάπην, love, ὅτι because ἐκεῖνος He ὑπέρ for ἡμῶν us τήν the ψυχήν life αὐτοῦ of Him ἔθηκεν, laid down; καί and ἡμεῖς we ὀφείλομεν ought ὑπέρ for τῶν [our] ἀδελφῶν brothers, τάς [our] ψυχάς lives θεῖναι. to lay down. ὅς Whoever δ ̓ now ἄν - ἔχῃ might have τόν the βίον goods τοῦ of the κόσμου world, καί and θεωρῇ might see τόν the ἀδελφόν brother αὐτοῦ of him χρείαν need ἔχοντα having, καί and κλείσῃ might close up τά the σπλάγχνα heart αὐτοῦ of him ἀπ ̓ from αὐτοῦ, him, πῶς how ἡ the ἀγάπη love τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God μένει abides ἐν in αὐτῷ; him? Τεκνία, Little children, μή not ἀγαπῶμεν we should love λόγῳ in word, μηδέ nor τῇ in γλώσσῃ, tongue, ἀλλά but ἐν in ἔργῳ action καί and ἀληθείᾳ, in truth.

καί And ἐν by τούτῳ this γνωσόμεθα we will know ὅτι that ἐκ of τῆς the ἀληθείας truth ἐσμέν. we are, καί and ἔμπροσθεν before αὐτοῦ Him πείσομεν we will assure τήν the καρδίαν heart ἡμῶν, of us, ὅτι that ἐάν if καταγινώσκῃ should condemn [us] ἡμῶν our ἡ - καρδία, heart, ὅτι that μείζων greater than ἐστίν is ὁ - Θεός God τῆς the καρδίας heart ἡμῶν of us, καί and γινώσκει He knows πάντα. all things. Ἀγαπητοί, Beloved, ἐάν if ἡ the καρδία heart ἡμῶν of us μή not καταγινώσκῃ, should condemn [us], παρρησίαν confidence ἔχομεν we have πρός toward τόν - Θεόν God, καί and ὅ whatever ἐάν if αἰτῶμεν, we might ask, λαμβάνομεν we receive ἀπ ̓ from αὐτοῦ, Him, ὅτι because τάς the ἐντολάς commandments αὐτοῦ of Him τηροῦμεν we keep, καί and τά the things ἀρεστά pleasing ἐνώπιον before αὐτοῦ Him ποιοῦμεν. we do.

καί And αὕτη this ἐστίν is ἡ the ἐντολή commandment αὐτοῦ, of Him, ἵνα that πιστεύσωμεν we should believe τῷ in the ὀνόματι name τοῦ the Υἱοῦ Son αὐτοῦ of Him, Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστοῦ Christ, καί and ἀγαπῶμεν we should love ἀλλήλους, one another, καθώς just as ἔδωκεν He gave ἐντολήν [the] commandment ἡμῖν. to us. καί And ὁ the [one] τηρῶν keeping τάς the ἐντολάς commandments αὐτοῦ of Him, ἐν in αὐτῷ Him μένει abides, καί and αὐτός He ἐν in αὐτῷ· him. καί And ἐν by τούτῳ this γινώσκομεν we know ὅτι that μένει He abides ἐν in ἡμῖν, us, ἐκ by τοῦ the Πνεύματος Spirit οὗ whom ἡμῖν to us ἔδωκεν. He has given.

Ἀγαπητοί, Beloved, μή not παντί every πνεύματι spirit πιστεύετε believe, ἀλλά but δοκιμάζετε test τά the πνεύματα spirits, εἰ whether ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God ἐστίν, they are, ὅτι because πολλοί many ψευδοπροφῆται false prophets ἐξεληλύθασιν have gone out εἰς into τόν the κόσμον. world. ἐν By τούτῳ this γινώσκετε you know τό the Πνεῦμα Spirit τοῦ - Θεοῦ· of God: πᾶν Every πνεῦμα spirit ὅ that ὁμολογεῖ confesses Ἰησοῦν Jesus Χριστόν Christ ἐν in σαρκί [the] flesh ἐληλυθότα having come, ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God ἐστίν, is; καί and πᾶν any πνεῦμα spirit ὅ that μή not ὁμολογεῖ confesses τόν - Ἰησοῦν Jesus, ἐκ from τοῦ - Θεοῦ God οὐ not ἔστιν· is. καί And τοῦτο this ἐστίν is τό that τοῦ of the ἀντιχρίστου antichrist, ὅ which ἀκηκόατε you heard ὅτι that ἔρχεται, is coming, καί and νῦν now ἐν in τῷ the κόσμῳ world ἐστίν is ἤδη. already.

Ὑμεῖς You ἐκ from τοῦ - Θεοῦ God ἐστέ, are, τεκνία, little children, καί and νενικήκατε have overcome αὐτούς, them, ὅτι because μείζων greater ἐστίν is ὁ the [One] ἐν in ὑμῖν you ἤ than ὁ the [one] ἐν in τῷ the κόσμῳ. world. αὐτοί They ἐκ of τοῦ the κόσμου world εἰσίν, are; διά because of τοῦτο this ἐκ from out τοῦ of the κόσμου world λαλοῦσιν they speak, καί and ὁ the κόσμος world αὐτῶν them ἀκούει. listens to. ἡμεῖς We ἐκ of τοῦ - Θεοῦ God ἐσμέν· are. ὁ The [one] γινώσκων knowing τόν - Θεόν God ἀκούει listens to ἡμῶν· us. ὅς He who οὐ not ἔστιν is ἐκ from τοῦ - Θεοῦ God, οὐ not ἀκούει listens to ἡμῶν. us. ἐκ By τούτου this γινώσκομεν we know τό the πνεῦμα Spirit τῆς - ἀληθείας of truth καί and τό the πνεῦμα spirit τῆς - πλάνης. of falsehood.

Ἀγαπητοί, Beloved, ἀγαπῶμεν we should love ἀλλήλους, one another, ὅτι because ἡ - ἀγάπη love ἐκ from τοῦ - Θεοῦ God ἐστίν, is; καί and πᾶς everyone ὁ - ἀγαπῶν loving, ἐκ from τοῦ - Θεοῦ God γεγέννηται has been born, καί and γινώσκει knows τόν - Θεόν. God. ὁ The [one] μή not ἀγαπῶν loving, οὐ not ἔγνω has known τόν - Θεόν, God, ὅτι because ὁ - Θεός God ἀγάπη love ἐστίν. is. ἐν In τούτῳ this ἐφανερώθη has been revealed ἡ the ἀγάπη love τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God ἐν among ἡμῖν, us, ὅτι that τόν the Υἱόν Son αὐτοῦ of Him, τόν the μονογενῆ one and only, ἀπέσταλκεν has sent ὁ - Θεός God εἰς into τόν the κόσμον, world, ἵνα so that ζήσωμεν we might live δι ̓ through αὐτοῦ. Him. ἐν In τούτῳ this ἐστίν is ἡ - ἀγάπη, love, οὐ not ὅτι that ἡμεῖς we ἠγαπήκαμεν loved τόν - Θεόν, God, ἀλλ ̓ but ὅτι that αὐτός He ἠγάπησεν loved ἡμᾶς us καί and ἀπέστειλεν sent τόν the Υἱόν Son αὐτοῦ of Him ἱλασμόν [as] a propitiation περί for τῶν the ἁμαρτιῶν sins ἡμῶν. of us. Ἀγαπητοί, Beloved, εἰ if οὕτως so ὁ - Θεός God ἠγάπησεν loved ἡμᾶς, us, καί also ἡμεῖς we ὀφείλομεν ought ἀλλήλους one another ἀγαπᾶν. to love. Θεόν God οὐδείς no one πώποτε at any time τεθέαται. has seen; ἐάν if ἀγαπῶμεν we should love ἀλλήλους, one another, ὁ - Θεός God ἐν in ἡμῖν us μένει abides καί and ἡ the ἀγάπη love αὐτοῦ of Him ἐν in ἡμῖν us τετελειωμένη having been perfected ἐστίν. is.
