Ἀγαπητοί, Beloved, παρακαλῶ I exhort [you] ὡς as παροίκους aliens καί and παρεπιδήμους sojourners, ἀπέχεσθαι to abstain τῶν from σαρκικῶν fleshly ἐπιθυμιῶν desires, αἵτινες which στρατεύονται war κατά against τῆς the ψυχῆς· soul, τήν the ἀναστροφήν conduct ὑμῶν of you ἐν among τοῖς the ἔθνεσιν Gentiles ἔχοντες keeping καλήν, honorable, ἵνα so that ἐν wherein ᾧ which καταλαλοῦσιν they speak against ὑμῶν you ὡς as κακοποιῶν evildoers, ἐκ through τῶν the καλῶν good ἔργων deeds ἐποπτεύοντες having witnessed, δοξάσωσιν they may glorify τόν - Θεόν God ἐν in ἡμέρᾳ [the] day ἐπισκοπῆς. of visitation.

Ὑποτάγητε Be in subjection πάσῃ to every ἀνθρωπίνῃ human κτίσει institution διά for the sake of τόν the Κύριον, Lord, εἴτε whether βασιλεῖ to [the] king ὡς as ὑπερέχοντι being supreme, εἴτε or ἡγεμόσιν to governors, ὡς as δι ̓ by αὐτοῦ him πεμπομένοις being sent εἰς for ἐκδίκησιν vengeance κακοποιῶν, to evildoers, ἔπαινον praise δέ then ἀγαθοποιῶν, to well-doers, ὅτι because οὕτως this ἐστίν is τό the θέλημα will τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God, ἀγαθοποιοῦντας doing good, φιμοῦν to put to silence τήν the τῶν - ἀφρόνων of foolish ἀνθρώπων men ἀγνωσίαν, ignorance, ὡς as ἐλεύθεροι free, καί and μή not ὡς as ἐπικάλυμμα a cover-up ἔχοντες having τῆς for κακίας evil τήν the ἐλευθερίαν freedom, ἀλλ ̓ but ὡς as Θεοῦ of God δοῦλοι. servants. Πάντων Of all δέ now τό the τέλος end ἤγγικεν. has drawn near. σωφρονήσατε Be clear-minded οὖν therefore, καί and νήψατε sober εἰς for the purpose of προσευχάς prayers, πρό above πάντων all things, τήν - εἰς among ἑαυτούς yourselves ἀγάπην love ἐκτενῆ fervent ἔχοντες, having, ὅτι because ἀγάπη love καλύπτει covers over πλῆθος a multitude ἁμαρτιῶν, of sins, φιλόξενοι hospitable εἰς to ἀλλήλους one another, ἄνευ without γογγυσμοῦ, complaint, ἕκαστος each καθώς as ἔλαβεν has received χάρισμα a gift, εἰς to ἑαυτούς each other αὐτό them διακονοῦντες serving, ὡς as καλοί good οἰκονόμοι stewards ποικίλης of [the] manifold χάριτος grace Θεοῦ. of God: εἴ if τὶς anyone λαλεῖ, speaks, ὡς as λόγια oracles Θεοῦ· of God; εἴ if τὶς anyone διακονεῖ, serves, ὡς as ἐκ of ἰσχύος strength ἧς which χορηγεῖ supplies ὁ - Θεός, God, ἵνα so that ἐν in πᾶσιν all things δοξάζηται may be glorified ὁ - Θεός God διά through Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστοῦ Christ, ᾧ to whom ἐστίν be ἡ the δόξα glory καί and τό the κράτος power εἰς to τούς the αἰῶνας ages τῶν of the αἰώνων, ages. ἀμήν. Ἀγαπητοί, Beloved, μή not ξενίζεσθε be surprised at τῇ the ἐν among ὑμῖν you πυρώσει fire πρός for πειρασμόν a trial ὑμῖν to you γινομένῃ taking place, ὡς as if ξένου a strange thing ὑμῖν to you συμβαίνοντος, were happening. ἀλλά But καθό as κοινωνεῖτε you have shared τοῖς in the τοῦ - Χριστοῦ of Christ παθήμασιν, sufferings, χαίρετε, rejoice, ἵνα so that καί also ἐν in τῇ the ἀποκαλύψει revelation τῆς of the δόξης glory αὐτοῦ of Him, χαρῆτε you may rejoice ἀγαλλιώμενοι. exulting. εἰ If ὀνειδίζεσθε you are insulted ἐν in ὀνόματι [the] name Χριστοῦ, of Christ, μακάριοι, [you are] blessed, ὅτι because τό the τῆς - δόξης of glory καί and τό - τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God Πνεῦμα Spirit ἐφ ̓ upon ὑμᾶς you ἀναπαύεται. rests. μή Not γάρ for τὶς any ὑμῶν of you πασχέτω let suffer ὡς as φονεύς a murderer, ἤ or κλέπτης a thief, ἤ or κακοποιός an evildoer, ἤ or ὡς as ἀλλοτριεπίσκοπος· a troublesome meddler; εἰ if δέ however ὡς as Χριστιανός, a Christian, μή not αἰσχυνέσθω, let him be ashamed; δοξαζέτω let him glorify δέ however τόν - Θεόν God ἐν in τῷ the ὀνόματι name τούτῳ. this. ὅτι For [it is] ὁ the καιρός time [for] τοῦ - ἄρξασθαι to have begun τό the κρίμα judgment ἀπό from τοῦ the οἴκου house τοῦ - Θεοῦ· of God; εἰ if δέ now πρῶτον first ἀφ ̓ from ἡμῶν, us, τί what [will be] τό the τέλος outcome τῶν of those ἀπειθούντων disobeying τῷ the τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God εὐαγγελίῳ; gospel? καί And, εἰ If ὁ the δίκαιος righteous [one] μόλις with difficulty σώζεται, is saved, ὁ the ἀσεβής ungodly καί and ἁμαρτωλός sinner ποῦ where φανεῖται; will appear?” Ὥστε Therefore καί also, οἱ those πάσχοντες suffering κατά according to τό the θέλημα will τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God, πιστῷ to [the] faithful Κτίστῃ Creator παρατιθέσθωσαν let them commit τάς the ψυχάς souls αὐτῶν of them ἐν in ἀγαθοποιΐᾳ. well doing.

Πρεσβυτέρους Elders τούς - ἐν among ὑμῖν you, παρακαλῶ I exhort, ὁ - συμπρεσβύτερος a fellow elder καί and μάρτυς witness τῶν of the τοῦ - Χριστοῦ of Christ παθημάτων, sufferings, ὁ who [am] καί also τῆς of the μελλούσης being about ἀποκαλύπτεσθαι to be revealed δόξης glory κοινωνός· partaker: ποιμάνατε Shepherd τό the ἐν among ὑμῖν you ποίμνιον flock τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God, ἐπισκοποῦντες exercising oversight μή not ἀναγκαστῶς under compulsion, ἀλλά but ἑκουσίως willingly, κατά according to Θεόν, God; μηδέ and not αἰσχροκερδῶς for base gain, ἀλλά but προθύμως, eagerly; μηδ ̓ not ὡς as κατακυριεύοντες exercising lordship over τῶν - κλήρων those in your charge, ἀλλά but τύποι examples γινόμενοι being τοῦ to the ποιμνίου· flock. καί And φανερωθέντος having been revealed τοῦ the Ἀρχιποίμενος Chief Shepherd, κομιεῖσθε you will receive τόν the ἀμαράντινον unfading τῆς - δόξης of glory στέφανον. crown. Ταπεινώθητε Be humbled οὖν therefore ὑπό under τήν the κραταιάν mighty χεῖρα hand τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God, ἵνα so that ὑμᾶς you ὑψώσῃ He may exalt ἐν in καιρῷ, [due] time, πᾶσαν all τήν the μέριμναν anxiety ὑμῶν of you ἐπιρίψαντες having cast ἐπ ̓ upon αὐτόν, Him, ὅτι because αὐτῷ with Him μέλει there is care περί about ὑμῶν. you.
