Περί Concerning ἧς this σωτηρίας salvation, ἐξεζήτησαν sought out καί and ἐξηραύνησαν searched out diligently προφῆται [the] prophets, οἱ - περί of τῆς the εἰς toward ὑμᾶς you χάριτος grace προφητεύσαντες having prophesied, ἐραυνῶντες inquiring εἰς into τίνα what ἤ or ποῖον what manner of καιρόν time ἐδήλου was signifying τό the ἐν in αὐτοῖς them Πνεῦμα Spirit Χριστοῦ of Christ, προμαρτυρόμενον testifying beforehand τά - εἰς unto Χριστόν Christ's παθήματα sufferings καί and τάς the μετά after ταῦτα these δόξας. glories, οἷς to whom ἀπεκαλύφθη it was revealed ὅτι that οὐ not ἑαυτοῖς, themselves, ὑμῖν you δέ however, διηκόνουν they were serving αὐτά in those things ἅ which νῦν now ἀνηγγέλη have been proclaimed ὑμῖν to you διά by τῶν those εὐαγγελισαμένων having proclaimed the gospel to ὑμᾶς you ἐν by Πνεύματι [the] Spirit Ἁγίῳ Holy ἀποσταλέντι having been sent ἀπ ̓ from οὐρανοῦ, heaven, εἰς into ἅ which ἐπιθυμοῦσιν desire ἄγγελοι angels παρακύψαι. to look.

Διό Therefore ἀναζωσάμενοι having girded up τάς the ὀσφύας loins τῆς of the διανοίας mind ὑμῶν of you, νήφοντες being sober-minded, τελείως fully ἐλπίσατε set [your] hope ἐπί upon τήν the φερομένην being brought ὑμῖν to you χάριν grace ἐν in ἀποκαλύψει [the] revelation Ἰησοῦ of Jesus Χριστοῦ. Christ, ὡς as τέκνα children ὑπακοῆς of obedience, μή not συσχηματιζόμενοι fashioning yourselves ταῖς to the πρότερον former ἐν in τῇ the ἀγνοίᾳ ignorance ὑμῶν of you ἐπιθυμίαις, desires. ἀλλά But κατά as τόν the [One] καλέσαντα having called ὑμᾶς you ἅγιον [is] holy, καί also αὐτοί yourselves ἅγιοι holy ἐν in πάσῃ all ἀναστροφῇ [your] conduct γενήθητε, be, διότι because γέγραπται· it has been written Ἅγιοι Holy ἔσεσθε, you shall be, ὅτι because ἐγώ I ἅγιος. εἰδότες knowing ὅτι that οὐ not φθαρτοῖς, by perishable things — ἀργυρίῳ by silver ἤ or χρυσίῳ, by gold — ἐλυτρώθητε you were redeemed ἐκ from τῆς the ματαίας futile ὑμῶν of you ἀναστροφῆς manner of life πατροπαραδότου handed down from [your] fathers, ἀλλά but τιμίῳ by [the] precious αἵματι blood, ὡς as ἀμνοῦ of a lamb ἀμώμου without blemish καί and ἀσπίλου without spot, Χριστοῦ of Christ, προεγνωσμένου having been foreknown μέν indeed πρό before καταβολῆς [the] foundation κόσμου, of [the] world, φανερωθέντος having been revealed δέ however ἐπ ̓ in ἐσχάτου [the] last τῶν - χρόνων times δι ̓ for the sake of ὑμᾶς you,

τούς who δι ̓ by αὐτοῦ Him πιστούς believe εἰς in Θεόν God, τόν the [one] ἐγείραντα having raised up αὐτόν Him ἐκ out from νεκρῶν [the] dead καί and δόξαν glory αὐτῷ Him δόντα, having given, ὥστε so as for τήν the πίστιν faith ὑμῶν of you, καί and ἐλπίδα hope, εἶναι to be εἰς in Θεόν. God.

Τάς The ψυχάς souls ὑμῶν of you ἡγνικότες having purified ἐν by τῇ - ὑπακοῇ obedience τῆς to the ἀληθείας truth εἰς unto φιλαδελφίαν brotherly love ἀνυπόκριτον sincere, ἐκ out of καθαρᾶς purity καρδίας of heart, ἀλλήλους one another ἀγαπήσατε love ἐκτενῶς fervently. ἀναγεγεννημένοι Having been born again, οὐ not ἐκ of σπορᾶς seed φθαρτῆς perishable, ἀλλά but ἀφθάρτου of imperishable, διά by λόγου [the] word ζῶντος living Θεοῦ of God, καί and μένοντος. abiding, διότι because, Πᾶσα All σάρξ flesh [is] ὡς like χόρτος grass, καί and πᾶσα all δόξα [the] glory αὐτῆς of it ὡς like ἄνθος [the] flower χόρτου· of grass. ἐξηράνθη Withers ὁ the χόρτος grass, καί and τό the ἄνθος flower ἐξέπεσεν· falls away, τό - δέ but ῥῆμα the word Κυρίου of [the] Lord μένει abides εἰς to τόν the αἰῶνα. age.”

Τοῦτο This δέ now ἐστίν is τό the ῥῆμα word τό - εὐαγγελισθέν having been proclaimed εἰς to ὑμᾶς. you.

Ἀποθέμενοι Having put aside οὖν therefore πᾶσαν all κακίαν malice, καί and πάντα all δόλον deceit, καί and ὑποκρίσεις hypocrisy, καί and φθόνους envies, καί and πάσας all καταλαλιάς evil speakings, ὡς like ἀρτιγέννητα newborn βρέφη babies, τό - λογικόν reasonable ἄδολον pure γάλα milk ἐπιποθήσατε, crave, ἵνα so that ἐν by αὐτῷ it αὐξηθῆτε you may grow up εἰς in respect to σωτηρίαν, salvation, εἰ if indeed ἐγεύσασθε you have tasted ὅτι that χρηστός [is] good ὁ the Κύριος. Lord. Πρός To ὅν whom προσερχόμενοι coming, λίθον a stone ζῶντα living, ὑπό by ἀνθρώπων men μέν indeed ἀποδεδοκιμασμένον, rejected, παρά in the sight of δέ however Θεῷ God ἐκλεκτόν chosen ἔντιμον, [and] precious, καί also αὐτοί you yourselves ὡς as λίθοι stones ζῶντες living, οἰκοδομεῖσθε are being built up οἶκος as a house πνευματικός spiritual εἰς into ἱεράτευμα a priesthood ἅγιον holy, ἀνενέγκαι to offer πνευματικάς spiritual θυσίας sacrifices εὐπροσδέκτους acceptable Θεῷ to God διά through Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστοῦ. Ἀγαπητοί, Beloved, παρακαλῶ I exhort [you] ὡς as παροίκους aliens καί and παρεπιδήμους sojourners, ἀπέχεσθαι to abstain τῶν from σαρκικῶν fleshly ἐπιθυμιῶν desires, αἵτινες which στρατεύονται war κατά against τῆς the ψυχῆς· soul, τήν the ἀναστροφήν conduct ὑμῶν of you ἐν among τοῖς the ἔθνεσιν Gentiles ἔχοντες keeping καλήν, honorable, ἵνα so that ἐν wherein ᾧ which καταλαλοῦσιν they speak against ὑμῶν you ὡς as κακοποιῶν evildoers, ἐκ through τῶν the καλῶν good ἔργων deeds ἐποπτεύοντες having witnessed, δοξάσωσιν they may glorify τόν - Θεόν God ἐν in ἡμέρᾳ [the] day ἐπισκοπῆς. of visitation.

Ὑποτάγητε Be in subjection πάσῃ to every ἀνθρωπίνῃ human κτίσει institution διά for the sake of τόν the Κύριον, Lord, εἴτε whether βασιλεῖ to [the] king ὡς as ὑπερέχοντι being supreme, εἴτε or ἡγεμόσιν to governors, ὡς as δι ̓ by αὐτοῦ him πεμπομένοις being sent εἰς for ἐκδίκησιν vengeance κακοποιῶν, to evildoers, ἔπαινον praise δέ then ἀγαθοποιῶν, to well-doers, ὅτι because οὕτως this ἐστίν is τό the θέλημα will τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God, ἀγαθοποιοῦντας doing good, φιμοῦν to put to silence τήν the τῶν - ἀφρόνων of foolish ἀνθρώπων men ἀγνωσίαν, ignorance, ὡς as ἐλεύθεροι free, καί and μή not ὡς as ἐπικάλυμμα a cover-up ἔχοντες having τῆς for κακίας evil τήν the ἐλευθερίαν freedom, ἀλλ ̓ but ὡς as Θεοῦ of God δοῦλοι. servants.
