Εὐχαριστεῖν To thank ὀφείλομεν we ought τῷ - Θεῷ God πάντοτε always περί concerning ὑμῶν, you, ἀδελφοί, brothers, καθώς just as ἄξιον fitting ἐστίν, it is, ὅτι because ὑπεραυξάνει is increasing exceedingly ἡ the πίστις faith ὑμῶν of you, καί and πλεονάζει is abounding ἡ the ἀγάπη love ἑνός of one ἑκάστου each πάντων of all ὑμῶν you εἰς to ἀλλήλους, one another; ὥστε so as for αὐτούς ourselves, ἡμᾶς us ἐν in ὑμῖν you ἐνκαυχᾶσθαι to boast, ἐν in ταῖς the ἐκκλησίαις churches τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God, ὑπέρ about τῆς the ὑπομονῆς perseverance ὑμῶν of you, καί and πίστεως faith ἐν in πᾶσιν all τοῖς the διωγμοῖς persecutions ὑμῶν of you, καί and ταῖς in the θλίψεσιν tribulations αἷς that ἀνέχεσθε, you are bearing. Ἔνδειγμα [This is] a plain token τῆς of the δικαίας righteous κρίσεως judgment τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God, εἰς unto τό - καταξιωθῆναι to be accounted worthy ὑμᾶς you τῆς of the βασιλείας kingdom τοῦ - Θεοῦ, of God, ὑπέρ for ἧς which καί also πάσχετε, you suffer. εἴπερ For indeed δίκαιον righteous [it is] παρά with Θεῷ God ἀνταποδοῦναι to repay τοῖς those θλίβουσιν oppressing ὑμᾶς you θλῖψιν with affliction, καί and ὑμῖν to you τοῖς - θλιβομένοις being oppressed, ἄνεσιν repose μεθ ̓ with ἡμῶν, us ἐν at τῇ the ἀποκαλύψει revelation τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord Ἰησοῦ Jesus ἀπ ̓ from οὐρανοῦ heaven, μετ ̓ with ἀγγέλων [the] angels δυνάμεως mighty αὐτοῦ of Him ἐν in πυρί a fire φλογός, of flame, διδόντος inflicting ἐκδίκησιν vengeance τοῖς on those μή not εἰδόσιν knowing Θεόν God καί and τοῖς on those μή not ὑπακούουσιν obeying τῷ the εὐαγγελίῳ gospel τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord ἡμῶν of us Ἰησοῦ, Jesus, οἵτινες who δίκην [the] penalty τίσουσιν will suffer ὄλεθρον of destruction αἰώνιον eternal, ἀπό away from προσώπου [the] presence τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord καί and ἀπό from τῆς the δόξης glory τῆς of the ἰσχύος power αὐτοῦ, of Him, ὅταν when ἔλθῃ He shall come ἐνδοξασθῆναι to be glorified ἐν in τοῖς the ἁγίοις saints αὐτοῦ of Him, καί and θαυμασθῆναι to be marveled at ἐν among πᾶσιν all τοῖς those πιστεύσασιν, having believed, ὅτι because ἐπιστεύθη was believed τό the μαρτύριον testimony ἡμῶν of us ἐφ ̓ to ὑμᾶς, you ἐν in τῇ the ἡμέρᾳ day ἐκείνῃ. that, εἰς for ὅ which καί also προσευχόμεθα we pray πάντοτε always περί for ὑμῶν, you, ἵνα that ὑμᾶς you ἀξιώσῃ He may count worthy τῆς of the κλήσεως calling ὁ of the Θεός God ἡμῶν of us, καί and πληρώσῃ He may fulfill πᾶσαν every εὐδοκίαν good pleasure ἀγαθωσύνης of goodness καί and ἔργον work πίστεως of faith ἐν with δυνάμει, power, ὅπως so that ἐνδοξασθῇ may be glorified τό the ὄνομα name τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord ἡμῶν of us Ἰησοῦ Jesus ἐν in ὑμῖν, you, καί and ὑμεῖς you ἐν in αὐτῷ, Him, κατά according to τήν the χάριν grace τοῦ of the Θεοῦ God ἡμῶν of us καί and Κυρίου [the] Lord Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστοῦ. Christ.

Ἐρωτῶμεν We implore δέ now ὑμᾶς, you, ἀδελφοί, brothers, ὑπέρ by τῆς the παρουσίας coming τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord ἡμῶν of us Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστοῦ Christ καί and ἡμῶν our ἐπισυναγωγῆς gathering together ἐπ ̓ unto αὐτόν Him, εἰς for τό - μή not ταχέως quickly σαλευθῆναι to be shaken ὑμᾶς you ἀπό in τοῦ - νοός mind μηδέ nor θροεῖσθαι, to be troubled, μήτε neither διά by πνεύματος spirit, μήτε nor διά by λόγου word, μήτε nor δι ̓ by ἐπιστολῆς letter, ὡς as if δι ̓ by ἡμῶν, us, ὡς as ὅτι that ἐνέστηκεν is present ἡ the ἡμέρα day τοῦ of the Κυρίου· Lord.

μή No τὶς one ὑμᾶς you ἐξαπατήσῃ should deceive κατά in μηδένα not one τρόπον. way, ὅτι because [it is] ἐάν if μή not [until] ἔλθῃ shall have come ἡ the ἀποστασία apostasy πρῶτον first, καί and ἀποκαλυφθῇ shall have been revealed ὁ the ἄνθρωπος man τῆς - ἀνομίας, of lawlessness, ὁ the υἱός son τῆς - ἀπωλείας, of destruction, ὁ the [one] ἀντικείμενος opposing καί and ὑπεραιρόμενος exalting himself ἐπί above πάντα every λεγόμενον so-called Θεόν god ἤ or σέβασμα, object of worship, ὥστε so as for αὐτόν him εἰς in τόν the ναόν temple τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God καθίσαι to sit down, ἀποδεικνύντα setting forth ἑαυτόν he himself ὅτι that ἔστιν is Θεός. God. οὐ Not μνημονεύετε do you remember ὅτι that, ἔτι yet ὤν being πρός with ὑμᾶς you, ταῦτα these things ἔλεγον I was saying ὑμῖν; to you? καί And νῦν now τό that which κατέχον is restraining, οἴδατε you know, εἰς for τό - ἀποκαλυφθῆναι to be revealed αὐτόν him ἐν in τῷ - ἑαυτοῦ his καιρῷ. time. τό The γάρ for μυστήριον mystery ἤδη already ἐνεργεῖται is working τῆς - ἀνομίας· of lawlessness; μόνον only [there is] ὁ the [one] κατέχων restraining [it] ἄρτι at present ἕως until ἐκ out of μέσου [the] midst γένηται. he might be [gone]. καί And τότε then ἀποκαλυφθήσεται will be revealed ὁ the ἄνομος, lawless [one], ὅν whom ὁ the Κύριος Lord Ἰησοῦς Jesus ἀνελεῖ will slay τῷ with the πνεύματι breath τοῦ of the στόματος mouth αὐτοῦ of Him καί and καταργήσει will annul τῇ by the ἐπιφανείᾳ appearing τῆς of the παρουσίας coming αὐτοῦ, of Him, οὗ whose ἐστίν is ἡ - παρουσία coming, κατ ̓ according to ἐνέργειαν [the] working τοῦ - Σατανᾶ of Satan, ἐν in πάσῃ every δυνάμει power, καί and σημείοις in signs, καί and τέρασιν in wonders ψεύδους of falsehood, καί and ἐν in πάσῃ every ἀπάτῃ deceit ἀδικίας of wickedness τοῖς unto those ἀπολλυμένοις, perishing, ἀνθ ̓ in return for ὧν which τήν the ἀγάπην love τῆς of the ἀληθείας truth οὐ not ἐδέξαντο they received, εἰς in order for τό - σωθῆναι to be saved αὐτούς. them. καί And διά because of τοῦτο this, πέμπει will send αὐτοῖς to them ὁ - Θεός God ἐνέργειαν a working πλάνης of delusion, εἰς for τό - πιστεῦσαι to believe αὐτούς them τῷ what ψεύδει, [is] false, ἵνα in order that κριθῶσιν should be judged πάντες all οἱ those μή not πιστεύσαντες having believed τῇ the ἀληθείᾳ truth, ἀλλά but εὐδοκήσαντες having delighted τῇ - ἀδικίᾳ. in unrighteousness.

Ἡμεῖς We δέ however ὀφείλομεν ought εὐχαριστεῖν to give thanks τῷ - Θεῷ to God πάντοτε always περί concerning ὑμῶν, you, ἀδελφοί brothers ἠγαπημένοι beloved ὑπό by Κυρίου, [the] Lord, ὅτι that εἵλατο has chosen ὑμᾶς you ὁ - Θεός God ἀπαρχήν from [the] beginning, εἰς unto σωτηρίαν salvation ἐν in ἁγιασμῷ [the] sanctification Πνεύματος of [the] Spirit, καί and πίστει [by] faith ἀληθείας, of [the] truth; εἰς to ὅ this καί also ἐκάλεσεν He called ὑμᾶς you, διά through τοῦ the εὐαγγελίου gospel ἡμῶν of us, εἰς to περιποίησιν [the] obtaining δόξης of [the] glory τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord ἡμῶν of us Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστοῦ. Christ.

Ἄρα So οὖν, then, ἀδελφοί, brothers, στήκετε stand firm καί and κρατεῖτε hold fast τάς to the παραδόσεις traditions ἅς that ἐδιδάχθητε you were taught, εἴτε whether διά by λόγου word, εἴτε or δι ̓ by ἐπιστολῆς letter ἡμῶν. from us. Αὐτός Himself δέ now ὁ the Κύριος Lord ἡμῶν of us Ἰησοῦς Jesus Χριστός Christ, καί and ὁ - Θεός God, ὁ the Πατήρ Father ἡμῶν of us, ὁ the [One] ἀγαπήσας having loved ἡμᾶς us καί and δούς having given [us] παράκλησιν comfort αἰωνίαν eternal καί and ἐλπίδα hope ἀγαθήν good ἐν by χάριτι, grace, παρακαλέσαι may He encourage ὑμῶν your τάς - καρδίας hearts καί and στηρίξαι may He strengthen [them] ἐν in παντί every ἔργῳ work καί and λόγῳ word ἀγαθῷ. good.

Τό - λοιπόν Finally, προσεύχεσθε, pray, ἀδελφοί, brothers, περί for ἡμῶν, us, ἵνα that ὁ the λόγος word τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord τρέχῃ may spread quickly καί and δοξάζηται may be glorified, καθώς just as καί also πρός with ὑμᾶς, you, καί and ἵνα that ῥυσθῶμεν we may be delivered ἀπό from τῶν - ἀτόπων perverse καί and πονηρῶν evil ἀνθρώπων· men; οὐ not γάρ for πάντων all [are] ἡ of the πίστις. faith. Πιστός Faithful δέ however ἐστίν is ὁ the Κύριος, Lord, ὅς who στηρίξει will strengthen ὑμᾶς you καί and φυλάξει will keep [you] ἀπό from τοῦ - πονηροῦ. evil. πεποίθαμεν We are persuaded δέ now ἐν in Κυρίῳ [the] Lord ἐφ ̓ as to ὑμᾶς, you, ὅτι that ἅ the things that παραγγέλλομεν we command, καί both ποιεῖτε you are doing καί and ποιήσετε. you will do. ὁ - δέ And Κύριος the Lord κατευθύναι may direct ὑμῶν your τάς - καρδίας hearts εἰς into τήν the ἀγάπην love τοῦ - Θεοῦ of God καί and εἰς into τήν the ὑπομονήν steadfastness τοῦ - Χριστοῦ. of Christ.

Παραγγέλλομεν We command δέ now ὑμῖν, you, ἀδελφοί, brothers, ἐν in ὀνόματι [the] name τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord ἡμῶν of us Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστοῦ Christ, στέλλεσθαι are to withdraw ὑμᾶς you ἀπό from παντός every ἀδελφοῦ brother ἀτάκτως idly περιπατοῦντος walking καί and μή not κατά according to τήν the παράδοσιν tradition ἥν that παρελάβοσαν you received παρ ̓ from ἡμῶν. us. αὐτοί Yourselves γάρ for οἴδατε you know πῶς how δεῖ it behooves [you] μιμεῖσθαι to imitate ἡμᾶς, us, ὅτι because οὐ not ἠτακτήσαμεν we were idle ἐν among ὑμῖν you, οὐδέ nor δωρεάν without payment ἄρτον bread ἐφάγομεν did we eat παρά from τινός, anyone, ἀλλ ̓ but ἐν in κόπῳ labor καί and μόχθῳ hardship, νυκτός night καί and ἡμέρας day ἐργαζόμενοι working, πρός in order τό - μή not ἐπιβαρῆσαι to be burdensome to τινά any ὑμῶν· of you, οὐ not ὅτι that οὐ not ἔχομεν we have ἐξουσίαν, [the] right, ἀλλ ̓ but ἵνα that ἑαυτούς ourselves τύπον [as] an example δῶμεν we may offer ὑμῖν to you, εἰς for τό - μιμεῖσθαι you to imitate ἡμᾶς. us. καί Even γάρ for ὅτε when ἦμεν we were πρός with ὑμᾶς, you, τοῦτο this παρηγγέλλομεν we were commanding ὑμῖν, you, ὅτι that Εἴ if τὶς anyone οὐ not θέλει is willing ἐργάζεσθαι to work, μηδέ neither ἐσθιέτω. let him eat. Ἀκούομεν We hear γάρ for τινάς some περιπατοῦντας are walking ἐν among ὑμῖν you ἀτάκτως idly, μηδέν not at all ἐργαζομένους working, ἀλλά but περιεργαζομένους· being busybodies. τοῖς To δέ now τοιούτοις such, παραγγέλλομεν we warn καί and παρακαλοῦμεν exhort ἐν by Κυρίῳ our Lord Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστῷ, Christ, ἵνα so that, μετά with ἡσυχίας quietness ἐργαζόμενοι working, τόν - ἑαυτῶν their own ἄρτον bread ἐσθίωσιν. they may eat. Ὑμεῖς You δέ, now, ἀδελφοί, brothers, μή not ἐγκακήσητε shall grow weary καλοποιοῦντες. [in] well-doing.

εἰ If δέ then τὶς anyone οὐ not ὑπακούει obey τῷ this λόγῳ instruction ἡμῶν of us διά through τῆς the ἐπιστολῆς, letter, τοῦτον of this [man] σημειοῦσθε take note μή not συναναμίγνυσθαι to mix with αὐτῷ, him, ἵνα so that ἐντραπῇ· he may be ashamed. καί And yet μή not ὡς as ἐχθρόν an enemy ἡγεῖσθε, esteem [him], ἀλλά but νουθετεῖτε admonish [him] ὡς as ἀδελφόν. a brother. Αὐτός Himself δέ now ὁ the Κύριος Lord τῆς - εἰρήνης of peace δῴη may give ὑμῖν you τήν - εἰρήνην peace διά through παντός all, ἐν in παντί every τρόπῳ. way. ὁ The Κύριος Lord [be] μετά with πάντων all ὑμῶν. of you.

ὁ The ἀσπασμός greeting τῇ - ἐμῇ in my own χειρί hand — Παύλου, Paul, ὅ which ἐστίν is σημεῖον [my] sign ἐν in πάσῃ every ἐπιστολῇ· letter. οὕτως In this manner γράφω. I write. ἡ The χάρις grace τοῦ of the Κυρίου Lord ἡμῶν of us Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστοῦ Christ μετά [be] with πάντων all ὑμῶν. of you.
